301  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) | Bounties | CPU-only on: October 12, 2014, 04:43:11 PM
I optimized mining and used optimizations from darkcoin cpuminer. Improvements are not dramatic but hashrate is noticeable faster. This is for 64-bit only. It uses extended instruction sets, I tested in on my CPU but I cannot guarantee that it will work for you, please test (except for the mining these builds are exactly the same as current version).
Windows wallet (64-bit)
Linux wallet (64-bit)
If you want to build from source then checkout the 'cpuminer1.2' branch.

I plan to further optimize mining.

bter.com is a good exchange, let's request  bter to put SPR on the voting list.  Cheesy
I requested them.

can't deal with that =(
What's the problem?
304  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) | Bounties on: October 10, 2014, 11:46:26 PM
Yes you can send to the same address.  Cheesy
Sent.

@Mr Spread: is your modified algo resistant to botnets?
No and I don't think it is possible for PoW currencies to be resistant to botnets simply by modifying algo. Botnet nodes can be made to look just like regular nodes and be indistinguishable from them. To be resistant to botnets we need more miners and more hashing power.
306  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) | Bounties on: October 10, 2014, 03:36:43 PM
Hello Mr. Spread. I have translated OP into russian. The thread is here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=818442.0
Bounty is welcomed here: SQR7gFevUSQq4dNAWc8dpMXKubzMkC4GdH
Thanks, I sent you the bounty.

I announced spreadcoin this forum also.

http://bitcoingarden.tk/forum/index.php?topic=1411.0
And I see you also translated to Portuguese and keep it up to date: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=750353.0
Good work, do you want me to send reward to the same address I sent you spreadcoins previously or different?
307  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Making cryptocurency that is more secure than Bitcoin on: October 10, 2014, 12:00:40 AM
What is the weakest link in Bitcoin security? For me it is that mining power almost completely belongs to large pools. Of course you may argue that pools will not harm Bitcoin and will not cooperate to do so. But what if, say, they will be hacked? Even large banks/payment systems were compromised and bitcoin is supposed to be decentralized and not vulnerable to hacking any certain node. I was seeking for a way to protect from this unnecessary centralization and I actually found a way how to prevent pools. The consequence of course is that mining becomes more like a lottery instead of being more deterministic as is the case with pooled mining.

You can read details of my approach in my whitepaper.

I implemented this idea (together with some other improvements) in SpreadCoin.
308  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) | Bounties on: October 09, 2014, 11:22:37 PM
I'm now offering bounties for translations (see OP).

There seems to be quite a few early adopters. If you want a great future for SpreadCoin I suggest you to promote it. It is not hard, I already started but the more people will do it the bigger will be the effect. What can you do?
1. Write about SpreadCoin in chatboxes on exchanges.
2. Tell people about SpreadCoin in any other way you can (IRC, other forums, tell your friends, etc).
3. Ask exchanges to list SpreadCoin.
4. Any other ways you can think of.

We may also want to make a giveaway although we probably need to add SpreadCoin to exchange first. I'm ok with donating large amount (10000 SPR) for giveaway. Is there anyone else who wants to donate money for giveaway.
309  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: October 09, 2014, 04:05:02 AM
I added white paper to OP and website. I will now contact exchanges. Well, I already started.
310  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: October 08, 2014, 02:11:30 AM
The last time I wrote serious text in English it was severely criticized for bad grammar Smiley. I think I'm now better at writing in English.

The whitepaper is good. It can be posted in the OP.

Mr Spread, where do I send the bounty for the whitepaper? Smiley
That's very kind of you but it is not actually necessary. I will not feel good if you will send me your coins because I already have plenty of them.
311  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: October 06, 2014, 10:27:07 PM
Here is the white paper. I asked someone to proofread it but he still didn't respond. If you are a native speaker or just know English well then please read it and PM me about any corrections that you think should be made before I will add it to OP and website.
312  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: October 05, 2014, 03:03:09 AM
You can dump the optimizations on blake and use only the optimization on the other algos. blake is quite fast compared with SIMD, echo, cubehash, jh or groestl, (almost 10 times faster than any of them), so dumping the optimizations on blake wont make much difference in the speed up, and would make it quite easy to port.
Thanks for advice, I will probably take this approach.

The longer this goes off exchanges and unnoticed, the harder time you will have convincing people it's a coin worth buying/mining/trading when the time comes.

Here's my prediction, as this has happened to quite a few coins with new ideas: you will continue to develop, you might find developers to help for bounties, then someone will fork all of the work into a clone coin, call it something else, get a flashy logo/name, have the GPU miner ready thanks to your work, and completely steal the thunder from SPD. Why wouldn't they? Why come mine something that has an early-adopter base who've been mining weeks/months quietly, when you can just launch the good ideas with a more motivated promotional team and be an early adopter yourself?

If you do not market your innovation, someone else will. That's just the way it goes in altcoins. Hesitation rewards no one here.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, promotion is definitely what this coin needs. Unfortunately I don't have a promotional team yet but I will do some promotion by myself in coming days. Can you please give examples of these other coins?
313  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: October 04, 2014, 12:52:34 AM
Sorry for long responces, I'm quite busy in these days. Whitepaper is almost ready.

Optimized cpu miner will take some time, existing X11 cpu miner is specifically made and optimized for specific block header size. It isn't very trivial to adapt it to SpreadCoin.
314  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: October 01, 2014, 10:49:11 AM
I think we need to approach exchanges. There is a fear that adding SpreadCoin to exchanges will ruin the price but no one forces you to sell it now, you can wait and sell later. I don't think that adding it later will make price higher, price will always be determined by supply and demand. For low volume coins price can easily go up or down 10x in one moment because of just one person who will buy or sell many coins.
In fact, low price can be advantageous for us, people who don't belive in the future of SpreadCoin will sell and those who do will buy.
What do you think?
Of course we don't have large community and it may be hard to convince exchanges to list SpreadCoin, but we can try.
315  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: September 28, 2014, 11:18:26 PM
@Dev,
Is it possible for SpreadX11 aglo to be cracked by FPGA or ASIC with low cost?
I'm not an FPGA or ASIC designer so I can't tell you this for sure. It is at least not easier than X11 and I believe it is actually harder because it is more complicated. Although X11 is used as part of this algorithm even if you already have X11 FPGA design it doesn't meant that you can easily adapt it to SpreadCoin.
316  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: September 24, 2014, 08:42:20 AM
Here is a rough plan of what should be done:
1. Write whitepaper. It is harder for me to write texts than to write code but I'm working on it.
2. Optimize CPU mining using code from existing X11 CPU miners. I'm working on it.
3. GPU miner. It is cool that we can still mine on CPUs but someone can make a GPU miner and use it privately. It would be better if we will have GPU miner available to everyone.
4. Make a better website. I'm not a web designer so I will need some help here.
5. Besides of that we need some promotion. Probably here are people who are more experienced in this and can help. In particular BITDV wanted to work on this.
Seems that there is a strong opposition to adding SpreadCoin to exchanges right now so I didn't add it to this list.

We can offer reward (in spreadcoins) for someone who will work on these tasks.
317  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization | No Pools on: September 20, 2014, 04:39:24 AM
Dev,
What's probability of setting up a pool or solo mining with multi-miners?
50% or what?
As already stated there will be no pools. What do you mean by solo mining with multi-miners? Automatically switching mined coins?
318  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization | No Pools on: September 18, 2014, 03:25:43 PM
Is there any way to know, how many clients in a network are mining?
and/or
how many clients are on the network alltogether?

just for fun

Regards,
Andy
If you look in debug.log you can see lines such as
Code:
BTTrackers: announced on 62.210.137.203:1337, next announce in 1864 seeconds, got 18 peers:
So there are should be 18 peers although I have 19 connections. Also you can see peer numbers for some events like peer=125, peer=10. According to these numbers my client saw at least 125 peers.

There is no easy way to know how many people are mining. You will need to connect to as many peers as you can and watch how many peers will send you new blocks.

no pool,no exchange ,what's this shit about?
Exactly, this is about decentralization, there will be no pools.
319  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin on: September 17, 2014, 04:38:48 PM
2. Rules for relaying and mining large transactions were changed. This is not a hardfork because rules for transactions that are already contained in block remain unchanged. Previously the only way to perform large transaction was to mine block with it by yourself. Seems that several other cryptos have the same issue but they may never faced it due to different parameters.

Jut to be sure: the block generated by the new rule will still be accepted by older clients, or is there a risk of a fork if one of those occur and i have not yet updated my client?
There is no risk of a fork. Old clients consider fee that is automatically computed when you send coins to be to low. Because of this they will not relay certain transactions and will not include them in their blocks but they will accept such transaction if it is already inside a block.
320  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin on: September 17, 2014, 11:04:30 AM
SpreadX11 ??
What's that algo?

This is mining algorithm which is used to prevent pools.
The general idea is that there is some additional information in each block that proofs that miner knows whole block and private key for spending coinbase transaction. That means that if you mine in a pool you can submit shares as usual and get reward for them but if you will actually find a valid block then you can send it directly to the network instead of the pool and get full reward for it. Pool may detect it and ban you but this is still may be advantageous for you. If your mining power gives you low probability of finding a block then if you will accidentally find a block it gives you more profit even if the pool will ban you for not sharing this block. If you have enough mining power to find blocks consistently then you can connect to a pool and submit shares for some time but steal the first found block, this way you can get both reward for your shares and actual block that you mined, this is like doubling your hashrate.
Given all this I don't expect that anyone will create a pool. But if someone will then I will modify whatever miner software will be used for it to implement the stealing described above, we may expect that most pool miners will then switch to this cheating version which will make this pool useless.
