Isn't this just a function of the order book on Gox?
Right now I see that there is no significant order depth on the bid or ask side between about 4.78 and 4.90 on Gox. So makes sense that the spreads on Bitcoinica would be equally huge.

Agreed, seems like arbitrage opportunities are pretty thin, especially between Gox and Tradehill. I've been having some luck in the GBP/EUR markets, but those have other problems. For one, it is much harder to move GBP and EUR between exchanges. Also, the EUR market seems to be consistently overpriced. I suppose if you wanted Euros that would be a good thing, but otherwise not so much.

I've been doing quite a bit of trading on Intersango as well, mostly on the GBP market (which is quite liquid) and on the EUR and USD markets as well.
Seems like the EUR market is a bit overpriced and has been for a while. Seems everyone over there wants bitcoins and nobody wants to sell for Euros.

I've been pretty surprised by this as well. Although many exchanges do offer CAD markets, it doesn't seem like they get much traction. Wonder why that is.

I tend to agree with you Shakaru. Pretty accurate asessment. I have yet to have any issues on CampBX, but I use them the least between Tradehill and MTGox, so I don't know how their support is... TradeHill is, in my experience, a little slow in support issues, but not to the point of complete ridiculousness like MTGox, thankfully.
Support at CampBX is great. Personally I'd do quite a bit more trading there if the volume wasn't so low. I'd also recommend Intersango, especially since they have no fees

Also, I don't think the law recognizes defamation of a computer program.
imagine that there was a TV show about someone 'illegally inventing Microsoft Windows'. Remember the movie "Antitrust"? Of course they never mentioned Microsoft by name, but the "evil" company in the movie is obviously based on Microsoft, and the "evil" founder is obviously supposed to be Bill Gates.

I've noticed the highest bid price is wrong on gox as well, but I think that's just a bug in the site. Everything else seems to be working. As for Tradehill, I think they are having some technical difficulties... https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=55138.0

I got a reply back from their support saying they hope to have things fixed today. Seems like it's more than Just the API though. From what I can tell, the whole "guts" of the site is down (API, trading engine, etc.)

Because although it will work most of the time, sometimes when the prices moves too fast, they aren't able to liquidate on time, which would effectively cause the account of that person who was liquidated to have a negative balance. And they can't be sure that person is honest enough to deposit more funds to make the balance go to zero or positive again. And if they don't deposit more, Bitcoinica would have lost money themselves.
And it seems that doesn't always work either. After my position was liquidated, I still had a -$69 balance. I deposited some money to cover it, but I can't imagine that everyone would do that.

Crazy, just got wiped out on Bitcoinica.
Can't be too upset though since my short position there was just a small hedge for my overall holdings

I thought the latest ruling on campaign donations said that this kind of thing was OK (unlimited donations from groups and not having to reveal the members). Or maybe that was just for PACs? If it turns out to be impossible though, just throw my 2.012 into the Bitcoin 100 pool

I'm not a rabid Ron Paul fan, but I do like him better than most. Sent my 2.012

Just did a Paxum withdrawal to test it and it went through in less than an hour. So I can verify that this seems to be working again.

I foolishly put 500 coins through Mt.Gox and withdrew the $1250 over two ago (26th November) knowing their Liberty Reserve transactions were slow and their web says it might take a maximum of two weeks. Having waited the indicated two weeks I get this support reply:
Mt.Gox Support, Dec-12 09:59 (JST): Hello Patrick, Unfortunately, we regret to inform you that we have no expected date for when Liberty Reserve withdrawals will be processed yet. We are working to add more funds to our Liberty Reserve account and will notify you once this has been done.
It's astonishing how much trouble they have keeping their accounts funded. Wonder if their LR account is under investigation like their Paxum account. Under investigation... Really? Paxum = Nothing to Report, everything works just fine. As for LR it will be done today. So does this mean Paxum withdrawals are working again? I can assure you they weren't for at least 2 weeks. It just baffles me that the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing here. I would expect this from a company with 10,000 employees, but not from one with more like 10 employees.

Just sent them a couple BTC. Glad to see them adding this!

I'll throw 1 into the pot now and pledge 1 more for at least 10 charities.
