Any news? Any signs of businesses or institutions taking interest? Do we know when Ardor finally launches?

(sry, too lazy to read whole thread)

306  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: April 13, 2017, 06:50:34 AM
My sister told me to buy etherum.

Clever sister. Just make  sure to buy the real stuff: ETH. Not the scammy shit.

ETHF is the centralized fork. ETHC is the Ethereum from the beginning.  Do you say that Vitalik has created a scammy shit from the beginning?

Ethereum is a series of forks you dimwit. ETC has forked since the fork that birthed that unholy critter, so according to your thinking there is no more ETC.
307  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: April 13, 2017, 06:44:33 AM
Fake news spam

I support ETC but seriously, your FUD is just fucking annoying....

The sad news is, he's the OP of the "official" ETC thread, yet still posts (fuds) just as much in this thread than his own (moderated) thread.

bitpop is the reason I'm happy every day I dumped my etc on the very first pump. etc has a poisonous community in my experience.

Agreed. Its main purpose seems to be to troll ethereum. At first I thought it was nice to shed some of these lowlifes from the ethereum community, but it looks like most of them are Bitcoin maximalists and Monero supporters.

Barry will probably have some pumps, but without a community dedicated to the technology this coin will be a pump and dump vehicle. I half expect Shillbert to be thrown in jail if he ever dares to launch that etc fund.

Anyhew, go small with etc when it's low (0.0005-0.001) and sell when it has pumped 3-5x. It will probably drop right down again, so just rinse and repeat until you see Shillberts fund is "investigated".
308  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin PoW Upgrade Initiative on: April 10, 2017, 09:51:21 PM
Lets pretend Bitcoin really did upgrade to a new POW algorithm and left all the asics and mining farms, mining equipment and whatnot useless. Is this really what Bitcoin needs? I dont think this will have a good image to the general public. It could be viewed much worse than Ethereum's hard fork.

In every job, if you do not do your work, you get fired.
If Miners stop to work on the protocol that the majority of users want, it's only natural to fire the miners and hire new ones.
Can't see anything wrong with that, it will be seen as a strength of bitcoin.

...?

PoW change without virtual unanimity just means you're launching another shitcoin.
309  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Post your SegWit questions here - open discussion - big week for Bitcoin! on: April 10, 2017, 09:34:51 PM
It's another vain attempt to communicate to the core devs to increase the effing blocksize. Nobody seems to be listening.

Personally I'm sick of the cult-like core devotees who claim to be intelligent and technically knowledgeable.
Personally I'm sick of people not being willing to understand or accept that an allegedly 'simple' blocksize increase exposes the network to a DoS risk. Yes it was thought a plain blocksize increase would be fine in the past; now we know better. Does that mean we should plough on regardless, knowing it's flawed?

And now Core's inability to properly manage and communicate their scaling solution is leading us towards a much more dangerous HF. A damaging contentious HF now will primarily be Core's failure, not anyone else's victory. Not exactly stellar risk management.

It is unfortunate that everything had to be bundled together like this. Especially when the contention in the BTC community became apparent. I understand there are technical reasons for doing so, but that's a lot of eggs in one basket.

The price will settle at $5 after the fake news

Hold your horses, etc boy! You're only halfway there.
what do you see the stable price for eth is?

My buy target is 0.022, but we'll probably see some more turbulence before that.

If it goes that low, I will buy some.

Just remember that everyone will be screaming that eth is dying at that stage. So don't let the bogeymen scare you.

nice update eth...

hope going to the moon  Grin Grin Grin
No. Ethereum Classic will go to the moon (etc) not ethereum(eth) flippening will happen soon because of the grewscale ethereum classic fund (etc). You can already see it happening.

As Ethereum isn't primarily digital cash, as Bitcoin is, a fund will not have the same significance. For a smart contract platform development and innovation is more important. I'm sure Shillbert can orchestrate a pump, but there will be no flippening.
315  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: April 03, 2017, 11:05:35 AM
The price of ETHF will go down and price of ETHC will go up until parity is reached. So, ETHF price might go way below $20 when remaining ETHF miners switch to ETHC.

You've been saying this since ETC was at 0.06. How's that working for you?
316  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 25, 2017, 05:54:28 PM
The problem is the total inability for Bitcoin to reach any sort of consensus.

Really? It seems to me that the consensus is that there is no urgent need, regardless of the free shit army's constant moaning and gnashing of teeth, to change anything at the moment.

Bitcoin is hard to change, and that's fantastic.

If people want to test out radical solutions to non-problems, there are a myriad of alt-coins available for just such adventurers, and that's fantastic too!

Bitcoin will remain the bedrock of crypto, as always.

40% of miners mine BU blocks, 24% of miners mine segwit, and I think around 8% signal 8MB blocks... and this you think means "that the consensus is that there is no urgent need [...] to change at the moment."?

You might say this means that there is no consensus for change atm. Which is obvious. However, you cannot say that the consensus is that there is no urgent need to change. That's stretching it into absurdity.

I've held back from trying to discuss my concerns here because I know I'll only get accused of spreading FUD but, since I do have skin in the game too, I'm going to post anyway.

The way I see it, Bitcoin Core vs. Unlimited isn't the problem, the prospect of a hardfork isn't the problem.  The problem is the total inability for Bitcoin to reach any sort of consensus.  I think many of us now are past giving a fuck about how the blocksize issue is resolved.  Double the blocksize or halve it, implement some wizardry or tell the microtransactions to sod off and use alts instead, it really doesn't matter.  What matters is that it is resolved one way or another.  The lack of governance is the real problem, only compounded by the refusal of so many to even acknowledge that there is a problem at all.

As others have said here before me, what makes this crash so difficult to stomach isn't the falling price.  We've all seen bitcoin win all sorts of challenges before.  What makes this one so disturbing is that the threat is on the inside, bitcoin's lack of governance, lack of ability to say "this is a problem and this is how we're going to fix it" is actually tearing it apart from the inside.  I'd rather see bitcoin drop to $200 because of China or the US government than to $900 because of infighting.  At least then I'd have some confidence that it would come through, but Bitcoin can only win through if it's in good fighting form and right now it isn't.

At risk of incurring the wrath of the Bad Analogy Police, Bitcoin right now reminds me of Ellen Ripley.  She could fight off any predator and overcome any threat until the threat came from within her own body.  Then she was forced to destroy herself before it destroyed her.

Yes, she was resurrected stronger and cooler for the fourth movie but that took many years and many failed attempts, and even when they succeeded in bringing her back to life she was fundamentally different as a result of incorporating the alien DNA into her own  Tongue

tl;dr: we just need a solution, any solution, but that does mean first accepting that there's a problem in the first place.

A Klingon with a remarkably apt Alien analogy to explain our current conundrum. A wave of euphoria and satisfaction shook through my body as I read it.

I bow down in awe at your greatness.

They can't kill bitcoin. Alts are already decreasing and bitcoin is coming back up. China is also buying again.

Ehem...

https://coinmarketcap.com/charts/

If you look at "Bitcoin Percentage of Total Market Capitalization" you'll see Bitcoin hit an all time low today of 66.64% of total crypto market cap.

In other words: Alts are increasing. Alarmingly so.
319  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 25, 2017, 09:59:05 AM
But let's flip your stupid assertion on its head. Isn't it a problem that one angry chinese miner and one high powered enthusiast on the autism specter can bring Bitcoin to its knees? Why is that? Why is Bitcoin so weak?
A lot of bitcoin haters joined forces to make it look weak. Those are different groups with different agendas. They would hate to see segwit, LN and side chains implemented. Every fucking altcoin can be implemented as a bitcoin side chain without any risk to consumers! But that is the last thing banks would like to see. So they pump the alts they've chosen to distract average Joe from further converting his savings into bitcoins. The alt is not dangerous for banks. They can kill it anytime just by dumping it. 99% of altcoin investors are just desperado gamblers that don't really care about smart contracts or whatever.

So Roger Ver is a Bitcoin hater now?

This is ironical. If people have problem with Bitcoin and have no faith left in its future, then why in the blue hell are they wasting their time in this thread?

I have plenty of faith in Bitcoin. But that doesn't mean it doesn't have problems.
