301  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage on: June 16, 2017, 08:06:49 PM
hi all ...

does anyone know how to import an older wallet.json into the current wallet ( 1.2.2 ) ? ...

this would be a huge help ...

tanx ...

#crysx

I think some weeks ago I was talking with out this same problem... I am sad you still have that problem. In version 1.2.2 they added a command for recovering old wallets, I am not sure if back in time I suggested you already this solution:

Legacy wallets (those previous to version 0.3.3, when wallets didn't have a recovery seed) can be accessed in v1.2.2 by typing this command on the UI terminal: "siac wallet load 033x (path of the wallet file)". If you access it, I strongly recommend you to move your funds to a new address that uses a seed for recovery

Let's say I want to give some of my free space on HDD.

What is the uptime requirement?

I understand there's a 2000 collaterel, e.g., but there's no chance in hell I'm gonna host files on sia network and lose all of my monthly revenue and collateral if I have half a day of internet problems.

I am pretty sure the up time requirement is greater than 99%. This should only be done on a machine that is up all the time basically.

Then this coin is bullshit and nobody's gonna let others store files on it Wink

Amazon standard has a 25 % refund policy under 98% of uptime. If you do the math, with 2000 sia collateral, on a 6-7 Terabyte hosting I'm gonna lose more than I make if I failt to keep 98% uptime.

And amazon can offer a very high uptime thanks to multiple nodes across the US.

Still even Amazon has major disruptions of service. Still remember many websites not working this february across the globe (including github).

https://aws.amazon.com/it/message/41926/

So now, tell me, do you really think I'm gonna lose 2000 sia of collateral because I have half an afternoon of power or internet problem to host somebody's files on my pc?

No. Fuckin. Way.

2000 of a collateral is much too higher of a price.

I obviously understand the point of the collateral, but there's basically nobody in this forum that can guarantee a 98%+ uptime a month for an entire year.

... Can't you really afford 2000SC (about $25) to set up your collateral budget as a host, seriously??? If you can't guarantee an uptime of 97%, then definitely hosting is not for you. It is the files of people and companies what you are going to host, so if you can't establish a serious hosting operation... better don't do it, it is important files what you are risking, not just your pennies in Sia. Hosting is not a game for an afternoon, buddy, it is a bussiness

Most of us can actually guarantee even higher uptimes. 97% (the uptime goal) represents up to a full day of downtime in a month: totally achievable. You can't expect to run your host in home computer or laptop you just turn on from time to time: you need a dedicated machine for hosting

How to fix this?

We need more details: Version of the client? Is your client already sync to the blockchain? Wallet alredy unlocked? Does it happen every time you close and open Sia?

If it is happening to you during the first blockchain syncing, I recommend you to do this first synchronization on a Command Line interface instead of in the UI: it is way less prone to crashes.

1- Close Sia-UI clicking close on the icon on the system try
2- On the file explorer of Windows, go to Users/your_user/AppData/Roaming/Sia (some of this folders might be hidden). In that folder, find the sub-folder where the files siad.exe and siac.exe are located.
3- Open 2 command lines in that folder (you know, those black screens with white text): on the options ribbon of the file explorer, File > Open command prompt > Open command prompt
4- In the first command line window, type "siad" and press enter. Leave this window open all the time
5- In the second window, type "siac consensus" every time you want to check the sync status. It will indicate you which block has downloaded so far. We are currently in the block #109.000
6- It can take up to 2/3 days to fully sync the blockchain, be patient
7- Once it sais the blockchain is synced, you can close the command lines and open the UI regularly
303  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN] BUILD - Innovative platform for building and selling new buildings on: June 13, 2017, 10:49:42 PM
My opinion - this project is well.
I do not know what your problem is to attack this project.
Time will show whether it's good or not - but I do not think you should be so negative to it.
I do not think any project that you do not like about you is a scam.
Leave time to show that .

....... A good project, you say???

Have you checked the previous pages of this thread to see how the OP is incapable to answer technical questions and concerns? How he decides to ignore posts on purpose?

- They (he) don't have an escrow while they promised they'll have one (and on the meantime they get hilariously scammed by a user that offered himself)
- He can't track owners of the token after the initial ICO, so second buyers will never get any dividend
- He has not offered any legal way to guarantee fair pay of dividends
- No auditing of any kind
- No single line of code of their super-powerful-and-advanced trustless smart contract that can link the gains of the ICO with the accounting of his building company
- No LinkedIn or CV of any of the "team members"
- No previous experience in cryptos demonstrated

With no guarantees and considering the behavior of the OP, we can certainly say this project was never meant to be legit.

This thing is already dead, and that's for the good of the community
304  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage on: June 13, 2017, 01:34:13 PM
i forgot my password, is there any way to recover the coins only with the seed file ans wallet.json file?

thank you

bump, please anyone?

There is no way to recover your wallet only with the wallet.json file, you need your recovery seed, sorry. The only exception are those legacy wallets of versions prior to 0.3 (because they don't use a seed).

That's not what I said.

Have you tried the solution I posted for you in the previous page, Mishax?
305  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage on: June 12, 2017, 10:31:20 PM
If it has to be resolved raise a issue like someone else said. No one knows error resolving on bitcointalk  I guess

Thanks for totally ignoring my help to those two users I wrote just 3 posts before yours  Cry...

But this is just Bitcointalk, the land of traders speculating with prices, whales manipulating market's feelings and sigspammers... From time to time, an experienced user can come and provide some help and relief, but if any other user is experiencing issues, I really encourage him to go to the Slack of Sia (https://slackin.sia.tech/), where we are a bunch of friendly users helping each other.

Help!

I navigated to http://sia.tech/apps/#ui

Next, I clicked on the SIA UI for users Windows 64 bit download link and then extracted the archive Sia-UI-v1.2.2-win32-x64.zip

Next, I double-clicked on the file called SIA-UI.exe

Soon, the Sia-UI had a message "Loading can take a while after upgrading to a new version. Check the release notes for more details."

Later, I came back and Sia was now telling me:

A critical error loading Sia has occured: Siad unexpectedly exited. Error log: Loading...
(0/6) Loading siad...
(1/6) Loading gateway...
(2/6) Loading consensus...
(3/6) Loading transaction pool...
(4/6) Loading wallet...
(5/6) Loading host...
(6/6) Loading renter...
Closing host...
Closing wallet...
Closing transaction pool...
Closing consensus set...
Closing gateway...
invalid argument

Can somebody please help me figure out what the issue is here?

Thanks,

Steve

a. I have a full time job, and don't have time for this, just wanted to use the wallet, but apparently it still suffers from severe bugs like it did a year and a half ago.

http://sia.tech/apps/ is that not an IOS wallet.

That's a macOS for what I see, not a iOS version.

The reason you don't see the withdrawal is because Poloniex is still solving their issues (see bellow)

still missing my 300k sia coins.

I dont see anything solved. What pisses me off that the withdraw was open, although they knew they had huge problems with it. And therefore I withdrawed and now they are also missing.

But I read they will do a backlog or so until next tuesday.

Wallet is not solved. It says Complete, but on https://explore.sia.tech i see only Hash not Found in Database.

To hell with such coin.

The explanation of what happens have been explained a few pages ago, so I would encourage you to always read the last pages of a thread before posting. Let's make a recap:

The price of Sia has surged x30 in the last 2 months, and so the number of users. No one was expecting that, not even the devs, so a problem with the mempool of the clients appeared. With such a big traffic and full blocks, some Tx were being dropped form the mempool to make room to new Tx. So the problem was that Polo, Bittrex an Shapeshift were pushing transactions with their TxID, but their were being dropped in their way to the miners, that have to include them in blocks. That's why it is shown as "complete" but they don't appear either at the explorer or your wallets

Sia dev team started to work with exchanges 2 weeks ago, and they finally provided them tools to handle the situation, so they could re-broadcast those Tx if dropped. Bittrex is using them admirably and they have no issues currently, not so Poloniex. Here comes the usual problems of Polo, as they have grown x10 in the last month but not their human resources to handle tickets. So they are pushing Tx of both the old clog in the network of 3 weeks ago, and also the newly generated Txs, but while some reach blocks, not so others, and they have to re-broadcast them again. And that is something they are doing slowly. Good news are that some people is gradually reporting success in old withdrawals and new, so that means that they are clearing the backlog little by little.

In top of that, Sia dev team is releasing next week a hotfix patch for all the clients to solve the handling of the mempool, so once all the users update, the issues should be gone even if Poloniex does not show to do their job properly.

So overall: No Sia coins have been "lost", they just have  to be pushed again by Poloniex, something that is happening right now. And while the original blame could be on dev team, right now it has been for two weeks on Poloniex for not using the provided tools
308  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage on: June 07, 2017, 01:50:20 PM
Actual price x5 is still cheap for SIA users Cheesy

I think we can go higher than this Smiley

How far this calculation will work because there are many whales who are holding a lot of SIA coins. Right now the price of SIA coin is very low and what are the chances that the price of SIA will increase.

Sorry, my English is not good.

I have a question.

Now, we have to storage 2000 Sia Coins to get storage. But what if the price of Sia increase to 1$ per coin , then it seems expensive, who will use the Sia to storage?

The storage pricing is totally independent of the market value of the coin. As a decentralized network, is each independent host who decides the pricing, and most of us are targeting always at the $1-2/Tb pricing. The value of Sia coin is increasing, so accordingly we are progressively reducing our pricing. Only competent hosts are selected when a file contract is formed, and as pricing is the main component of the score, it is ensured that only cheap hosts will be selected.

Right now, as the market value has been extremely volatile in the last month, several hosts are still adjusting the pricing, so right now the average hosting price is something about $5/Tb, but probably it will be reduced in the next days when the market value stabilizes and hosts adjusts the pricing accordingly.

I don't think you need that 2000SC minimum to rent. There is a 2000SC minimum to host (as a collateral budget), but a renter can make a small allowance if he only wants to rent a few Mb or Gb. The real minimum for renting is probably something like 50SC

yes its same problem like me. and sync is very very slow
can you find a solution please?

For both of you: we need more info in order to help you.

- Is this the first time you open Sia?
- Which version are you using? Be sure to be using the last one (1.2.2) downloaded from the team's webpage http://sia.tech/apps/ DON'T use a wallet or client downloaded anywhere else. People is reporting some fake wallets around that will steal your funds.
- Windows, Mac, Linux?

As a first attempt, I would delete the installation folder and uncompress the Sia download again. If problem persists, try deleting also the blockchain, wallets and rest of the files (in Windows, they are in Users/your_user/appdata/roaming/Sia

It is perfectly normal the synchronization of the blockchain takes a long time: it will be about 2-3 days on an HDD or 1 day on an SSD
310  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage on: May 31, 2017, 01:29:22 PM
Like banks, Amazon S3 isn't going away nor will it be replaced. How can Sia work with companies like Amazon S3 to improve its services?
Amazon S3 costs $23/Tb/month while hosting in Sia is something about $2-4/Tb/month. Either they reduce their pricing or Sia eventually will take their business.

Eventually, the plan of Sia is to become the backbone of internet storing, meaning that actually Amazon Web Services and others would be not enemies but partners for delocalizing their own sata centers

In other news, devs have finished their part in Poloniex solution and Poloniex will work on their wallet today, so most probably Poloniex operations will be resumed today :-)
311  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage on: May 28, 2017, 12:30:56 AM
Thanks for the info. last question. Once I click announce, how long does it take for my node to propagate to the network and be available?

About 1 hour. It can take a bit longer to appear on the hosts databases of SiaPulse and SiaHub, but you'll start to receive contracts after that hour (as long as you have a good scoring). In the terminal, typing "siac host -v" will give details of times a node asked for your settings ("settings calls") or formed contracts with you ("FormContract calls"), among other info
312  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage on: May 27, 2017, 08:44:36 PM
So I am fairly new to Sia... Can anyone recommend what parameters I should set to offer competitive contracts? Are the default settings acceptable or is there somewhere I can look at other market offers?

Check at http://siahub.info/ for a list of hosts. Click on the "score" column and hosts will be ordered according to their rank. That way, you can check what the top hosts are doing.

Your goal should be to stay among the top 50, but the higher the score, the more chances to be selected when a file contract is formed. Right now, most hosts are targeting at the $1-2/Tb/month storage rate. Your collateral should be 2-3x your storage rate. Bandwidth costs should be lower than the storage price. You'll need a big collateral budget if you have a lot of TB to offer. If you offer less than 4Tb, you will be penalized on the final score

In general, I recommend you to go the the Slack of Sia to ask more specific stuff. We are a lot of hosts there ready to help :-)

Sia is temporary disabled on polo. Why?

It has been disabled for about one week. Sia devs are working with Poloniex people to fix it. They catch the bug already, so it should be done very soon.
313  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Here we go for UASF on 08/01/2017 --> www.uasfguide.com on: May 27, 2017, 03:56:36 PM
EDIT: let's ask SlushPool and BitFury to support the UASF chain and some others will follow.

I am in shock, totally in shock, to see you are still trusting BitFury will support this madness. BitFury signed for the scaling solution of Segwit-bit4 + 2Mb blocks at the Consensus 2017. Along with them, 85% of the hashing pool operators and many important payment processors, exchanges and other actors of this industry.

No big actor is supporting this. Not even Core Devs have said they support this fork.

You are going to force a split in the blockchain, the few following you will most probably be orphaned. Be a bit responsible guys, you are going to inflict a lot of harm to the ecosystem

Question for anyone,

I am currently downloading the blockchain. Anybody knows what is his current size ? In gigabytes ? And where to find it ?

It is something more than 4Gb. Using a SSD drive it will take one day to download, in a regular HHD 3 days or more. You can accelerate it downloading the consensus DB file: https://forum.sia.tech/topic/155/consensus-db-downloads

Choose the most recent corresponding to your version of the client (consensus file is forward compatible but not backwards compatible)
315  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage on: May 26, 2017, 03:56:26 PM
Hi Dev . Does every host take 0.6 sia?
I am not a dev but I can help. Please detail you question, what do you mean with hosts "taking 0.6 Sia"?

Hosts set up their pricing and receive a revenue depending on how many contracts they are receiving. If for example you offer 4Tb of hosting at 200Sia/Tb/month but you only receive 100Gb in contracts, you will receive 20 Sia per month (plus some extra Sia in bandwidth costs)
316  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage on: May 25, 2017, 08:49:03 PM
Can anyone here please advice a place where I can read detailed summary about the SC? 1st post in this thread is a little bit complicated, I'd better read a short summary... Also, any faucets for SIA?

This infography is very simple to understand: https://i.imgur.com/pjzvL0u.jpg

Check the webpage and the video on it, too: https://sia.tech/

There is this faucet, but I am not sure if it is working anymore: http://siapulse.com/page/faucet

I am also interested in this project, I want to know where to read about development plans and when the end point of the development release

Guys sorry if it's a stupid question, but i downloaded latest Sia-UI and i still don't see my coins

Is it normal? I thought 1.2.2 would fix the issue

Pleas give some details so we can help you! When did you send your coins to your address?

- Are them from a very old wallet like version 0.3? Then go to the terminal and type "siac wallet load 033x <path of the wallet>"

- Recently, from Poloniex? There are experiencing huge problems with withdrawals. Open a ticket with them

Bought from Shapeshift in this month, no old wallet nor Polonium

Tried using "wallet init-seed --force" but that didn't work out either, this is the error i get

Quote
error when calling /wallet/init/seed: wallet has not been encrypted yet

First: Check the transaction went actually into the blockchain. Shapeshift should have provided you a TxID of the withdrawal: check it at http://explore.sia.tech/

Secondly: If not a problem about Shapeshift let's see your wallet. Basic stuff: are you pasting the recovery seed exactly as it is (no extra spaces, no missing characters)? When you downloaded Sia, did you created a new wallet and is this wallet where you send the funds? Or did you created a second wallet this time you downloaded sia. If a different wallet is loaded into Sia, the command to load a new wallet is actually "siac wallet load"
318  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage on: May 25, 2017, 01:19:35 PM
Price is dropping like hell... you need to make an announcement to stop this drop with panic sell  Huh Holding tons of SC and this drop means I already lost 30%...
No need to spread panic. Price is oscillating as with any other altcoin these days. Adjustmets and pure trading speculation that has anything to do with the long-term development of the project Need of new announcements you say? Let's recap what happened only this week:

- Sia has been listed in Bittrex and HitBTC

- Sia wallet v 1.2.2 has been released

- Host number has increased about a 25% and total hosting space about a 15%

- Renting demand has grown a 10%

- David Vorik, developer, is presenting today at the Token Summit in NYC

i don't know much of this coin though but i think this is hype too much. price usually grows specially if the coin has better feature than the rest with same concept like storj. anything below 1000 satoshi is pretty cheap indeed but this one seem to be hitting rock bottom already. didn't the team set up their own buy wall to keep the price?
Why should they manipulate the market?. I am sure they don't care about the pricing at this moment. Sia was never premined, so they don't even have a position to protect. They are working on further development and attracting big companies to rent space on Sia. That's the only think that matters fr the long term viability of Sia. You are a trader so you have a different mentality, but those of us implicated in the renting/hosting economy don't care too much about speculation

We are holding 1912186 sia coins. we will hold atleast 1 year+.

Is there any way to earn using these stored coins?
You can use them as collateral to set up a new host, and earn more Sia with your unused disk space  Smiley

For a few hours I can not connect to my wallet. Who knows why?
If you are upgrading from a version previous from v.1.1.2 it might be usual it needs hours to be ready the dirst time, don't worry. But give us more details. Are you using v.1.2.2? Are you making a clean install or an upgrade from an old version? Do you have a previous wallet with funds? Do you have a recovery seed of that wallet?
319  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage on: May 24, 2017, 09:34:12 PM
But what happens with 2000 siacoin for making a host? Will they come back to me?
Yes. All the coins from those 2000 not allocated in contracts return to you instantly. The rest used as collateral return too as soon as contracts expire

Thanks very much, that was a very helpful response.  I was wondering if instead of renting on a per file basis you could simply rent an amount of storage (1GB, 1TB, whatever) and use that freely.  I imagine that's what will be solved by the Dropbox type development you mentioned.

Much appreciated,
Cheers

Actually, it already works that way: you make an allowance for a certain amount of storage and certain duration, let's say 200Gb for a total of 5 months, so you pay 600SC upfront. You start uploading files: first file is 2SC, second file 15SC... after a time you download the file#2: that is 0.1SC in bandwidth... You upload a new version of file#1: that 3SC...

By the end of the contract you receive back the rest of those 600SC in allowance you did not spend. The only difference here is that uploading and downloading is not automatic like Dropbox (not until a tool like SiaDrive comes): you have to select them in the Sia UI every time you need to upload or download those files
320  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage on: May 24, 2017, 08:19:25 PM
Host activation price - 2000 siacoin.
Can i turn off the host? Do these 2000 sc come back?

The 2000SC is the minimal collateral budget the UI asks you. If you want to offer a lot of space, you'll need more collateral, of course. When you host, you offer a collateral for every contract a renter forms with you. You choose how much, but if it is 2 or 3 times bigger than your price per Tb, you have more chances to be selected by the renter.

Once the contract is formed, that collateral stays locked. If during the time of the contract you keep a 97% uptime (trough periodical Proofs-of-Storage), you recover the collateral and receive the payment for hosting and bandwidth. If you fail, renter recovers his payment and the collateral is burnt.

Of course you can stop being a host at any moment, but the locked collateral will not be returned to you until the end of the contracts you previously had (and only if you keep the 97% uptime)
