301  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / What happens if a Block can't be found? on: January 12, 2014, 07:01:21 PM
Ok, I may be way off with this, but it seems to me that since each block contains the hash of the previous block, this is a constant that must be in the found block regardless of who finds it. Considering how difficulty rises, some time in the distant future difficulty could be so high that for a given previous block hash there is no solution due to all possible solutions not being able to meet the difficulty.

Yes this is unlikly. But as the number of leading zeroes increases, the number of possible solutions decreases. It is possible to create the perfect storm if you will, where a solution can not be found for any possible inputs. if a block can't be found, the difficulty won't decrease because it is dependant on blocks being found.

Is it anticipated that this won't happen because difficulty will adjust down prior to this occurring? If so, one occurance of really bad luck and that one hash that can't be completed could occur. Is there anything built into the bitcoin algorithim to deal with this potential problem?
302  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Blue Fury Support Thread. on: January 12, 2014, 11:59:37 AM
ok back again guys....

so i thought i would try the red fury out on my pc as the mac was not playing ball...

i have read that you can run cgminer for the gpu (which i am)

and also bfgminer for the fury...

i have spent a few hours trying to set this up on my Ubuntu pc - i have followed the guide at the start of this post to the letter...

but the pc does not detect the device in the dev folder... i have scanned the folder many times to see something resembling the info in the initial howto guide.

so i am sat with cgminer hashing nicely in one terminal, and another terminal on the final command line from the guide, but without the info to type in as i cant see the device.... this is really frustrating!

it lights up when i plug it etc, so im guessing it works?

any ideas???
have you tried running using sudo? also recent versions of cgminer don't support GPUs anymore.
303  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [450 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + VarDiff on: January 12, 2014, 11:46:55 AM
Hello,

I have installed this software on a linux server. I have pointed some of my miners to this server. But, on the pool that I use (middlecoin), the hashrate does not shows up.

This software should be able to run for stratum pools, right? Also for script?

when you say "this software", to which software are you referring?

Sorry :-) - I mean this software: https://github.com/slush0/stratum-mining-proxy/
Most of the popular miners (bfgminer, cgminer) will work fine directly with common stratum running pools.  Are you sure that you need this proxy for your specific devices?

I understand, they do. But I have about 70 miners running right now. I want to use a proxy, so that I easily can move all the miners with 1 or 2 proxy's Smiley
Yes, that make sense.  Using about 45 minters here, arranged into 4 instances of bfgminer/cgminer, without the need for a proxy.  I read that some miners such as Blades which have only a LAN interface are best used with a proxy, but have no direct experience with Slush's proxy s/w.
Good luck.

by default, the stratum proxy points at Slush's pool. you have to recompile it or something to make it point at other pools. If you have done that, try looking for typos.

will this affect Slush's stratum proxy?
306  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] US/North American Bitfury sales NEW STOCK ***NOW SHIPPING*** on: January 10, 2014, 09:33:11 PM
I just heard from Dave that prices are going to be dropped to $16/GH on all kits & spare boards later today.  Guaranteed to beat BFL prices.

Anybody that has purchased *after* the most recent diff increase (Jan 2) is eligible for store credit.

now this is the way it is supposed to be done! Cheesy I'll be ordering cards as soon at the price change is in effect.
307  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: how to find a nonce on: January 08, 2014, 08:43:59 PM
Ok, think of your miner as a black box. you input a string of digits, of which the nounce is just a part, into the box and get a unique string of digits out. Incrementing the nounce creates a new input that results in a new, unique, output. Changing any part of the input string creates a new, unique output string. There other parts of that string of input numbers that vary. The transactions included, if you are using a pool that identifies itself in the coinbase, that would be different for the pools. Coinbase is part of that input string.

Basically, everyworker gets a somewhat unique set of inputs to work with.
308  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Best pool/coin to mine with USB ~1.6GH/s miners on: January 08, 2014, 08:17:05 PM
Here there is only one coin to mine, Bitcoin. post in the alt coin section for anything else. Tongue
309  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [3100 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+Orphan+NMC, Stratum, Private Servers on: January 07, 2014, 06:05:42 PM
It's just bad luck.  The pool has found no blocks.  It will pick up again.  It always does.   Grin

Bad luck hmmm
I'm running just over 1060Ghs
thats a LOT of bad lock  Wink

Actually, compared to what some people are running, that isn't that much. But yes, i understand that it is for you. Unfortunately, Luck is Luck and it will go where it will. eventually it should all balance out.
310  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [450 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + VarDiff on: January 07, 2014, 04:30:45 AM

If you go to BTCG you are doing a disservice to BTC in general and in the end are only screwing yourselves.

Why is mining on btc guild doing a disservice to btc and screwing yourself?  I am thinking about moving there, just curious what is it that they are doing that's so bad? vs slush for example

Some people feel it is wrong to have so much hasshing power centralized in one pool. Personally, i feel that they are wrong.
311  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [3100 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+Orphan+NMC, Stratum, Private Servers on: January 07, 2014, 03:14:33 AM
Hello all, I am still new at this and really new here. I was wondering what advantages there are for joining a team? Should I join a team or will my rewards be just the same either way?

Teams offer no advantage.

The only way to silence a troll is to stop feeeding him (paying attention to him). if no one responds to him, he has no one to reply to. Cool
313  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [2600 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+Orphan+NMC, Stratum, Private Servers on: January 04, 2014, 09:57:01 PM
Would it be too much trouble to add a nmc table to the payout & withdrawals section? just askin'.
314  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] US/North American Bitfury sales NEW STOCK ***NOW SHIPPING*** on: January 03, 2014, 08:39:55 AM
price dont look good for new year 2014 back to 999.00 usd for Hboard and 10 or more for 650.00 usd each hboard.
Prices haven't changed recently.  V1.2 are $675 and V2.2 are $700.

Meanwhile, Antminer 180GHs prices keep dropping  Undecided

Maybe because Antminers are a pain in the ass to run. I spent a day trying to get two to run on a machine that was running blue furys and gave up. After reading the forum a bit, i get the feeling that antminers want their own machine. I've got two sitting on a shelf doing nothing.
315  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Black Arrow announces 28nm 100Ghash Bitcoin ASIC from $1.49/Ghash on: December 29, 2013, 11:27:46 PM
Interesting, I went to the store site and attempted to log in. It says i don't have an account although i have invoice in my e-mail dated 24/09/2013. I guess i'll just have to wait and see what happens. This is probably due to the website changing since the early orders.
316  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: **US** BitFury Setup Guide on: December 29, 2013, 11:00:46 PM
the board in Slot 1 is grossly under performing:

1:      220     6.242   7.621   436     39      1       1       4       0       1       (1.248/chip)       59%

this is a V2 motherboard any suggestions as to what to do? i looked through past posts but it literraly made my head hurt.

Apologies if you have already tried this, but does every card underperform in slot 1 ?

Can you shuffle around to put that current card in slot 1 closer to slot F ?

Do you *HAVE TO* have something plugged into slot 1 ?

I'm going to try shuffling them around, just didn't feel up to it today. I thought that i read that on the v2 motherboards you had to populate them in order, but if it works moving it, what the heck.

I'm feeling stupid today.  Shocked  I just added two more boards to my rig. I now have SlotsS 0,1 4,5 8 C occupied. Oddly, the board in Slot 1 is grossly under performing:

318  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Where is the Bitcoin software stored ? on: December 28, 2013, 10:25:49 PM
There is a deifference between "knowing" something and "thinking that you know" something. Conspiracy Theory people deal in their "belief" that things are the way that they say they are and everyone else just doesn't get it. Arguing with them is just like arguing any religion, you will never change their minds and they will be smug, knowing that their beliefs are right and you are wrong. Roll Eyes
319  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: How to SOLO mine on few computers ? on: December 28, 2013, 09:59:33 PM
I have a router, each computer has its own adress 192.168.0.X

on computer runs QT, and on port 7777 this comp can mine solo ie: 127.0.0.1:7777

yet when i put also 127.0.0.1:7777 on other computers, they are not mining. what should i put there or what to set on router [some port forward?] to make that work

I'm not sure how you are mining, but to answer you question, 127.0.0.1:7777 tells the computer to look at itself. The other computers need the IP of the computer running QT. Also, incase you didn't catch it. QT has to be run with -server.
320  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: [ANN] Coinium - C# based pool software [being developed] on: December 28, 2013, 09:38:03 PM
When do you expect this will get out? Also what will separate this coin from others?
P.S. So far it looks good!

I don't think that this is a new coin, just an exercise in developing pool software.
