I noticed he picked dogecoin.  Does anyone know if you could have made profit on the coin if you were right at your computer ready to buy it?  Because i noticed that the price didn't seem to go that much etc.

Where are you guys buying electroneum?  is it only cryptopia?  And how is that exchange because some ppl says its good but others say it isn't...
3004  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Electrum vulnerability found today! on: January 09, 2018, 03:14:52 AM
Can someone here confirm that downloading electrum from the official electrum website now with the windows installer is fine?

Anyone here still using the old electrum and opened it and have no issues at all even though it was recommended by theymos to not do it?

The other thing is what percentage of electrum users even know about this?  Because even if you use electrum a bit, the only way to know about this would be either visiting this forum or going to their website.  And obviously someone isn't going to check electrum website everyday to check for the new update etc.

Can someone name the top 5 at the moment?
3006  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Best low marketcap coins on: January 09, 2018, 02:52:09 AM
How much money would you say is low market cap?  Like under 50 million?
3007  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Critical Security Release: Please update to Electrum 3.0.5 on: January 09, 2018, 12:37:02 AM
Can others confirm here 100 percent that downloading the electrum windows installer from the official website is safe?

People say to look at the signature but you dont need to look at it though right if its the actual website since everyone who downloads electrum the new version is downloading it directly from electrum website?

3008  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Windows Defender prevent running Electrum 3.0.4 on: January 08, 2018, 03:44:43 PM
Did you verify the signature? There are some threads here where people too thought that they've downloaded from official site, only to turn out later that it was from malicious fake sites from google ads.

I've checked it with Windows Defender and Malwarebytes, and it's clean.

Also dropped it on Virustotal - https://www.virustotal.com/#/file/0489e1df2d71da170f83aefdbf31f69378cff03648b776a588fd504046c5b2ee/detection

It might be a false positive in your case (if this is really an original version), windows defender was previously triggering on Electrum and other verified cryptocurrency programs like Geth. Just make sure to verify the signature first.

Can you explain what you mean by verify the signature?  You mean to tell if its legit?

Because if you download electrum from the real electrum website, would that be enough?  That is how i updated electrum back then when it was version 2.x etc.  So if you download from official site, just click on windows installer and download and thats all right?
3009  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Electrum vulnerability found today! on: January 08, 2018, 03:24:10 PM
Hey all.  So just to confirm.

Download the new electrum on the electrum.org site.

When you do this, do you need to copy/paste your 12 word seed when installing the new version?  I updated electrum few times when it was version 2.x to 2.x and i do not recall if it did or not?

You should be creating a new seed anyway since chances are you are new to this and don't know that if your seed ever saw the internet, your bitcoins are already compromised.

Get an OS that launches in a live OS like Tails for example and use that to generate the new wallet, of course disconnect your internet connection too, then you will guarantee that at least the seed was never saw online.

Now I don't know if it's normal behaviour if the new version should ask you to create a brand new seed, I would make sure that's normal before doing anything.

Hi there.  I had an electrum wallet for a while so i'm not new to this.  I also updated electrum few times from their website when it was version 2.x to 2.x etc.

So when i update it again on their website, i want to know, do they ask you for your 12 word seed to install the new version of electrum or not.  Because i do not recall if it did when asking me this the last few times i installed new electrum version.

Hey all so just to confirm.  Download from

https://electrum.org/#download

Then download from windows installer right assuming you have windows?  I notice there is a word signature to it that you can click on but since its the real website, just click on windows installer and thats all?

Once you download it, do you need to copy/paste your 12 word seed to install the electrum 3.0.5 or not?

I want to make sure if this before i download it.

Hey all.  Just want to make sure of this.

So download electrum from the website using windows installer like i did previously.  When i do this, would i need to copy and paste my 12 word seed?  I have updated electrum few times when it was in the 2.x version but i don't recall if i need to?  For example when you want to install electrum on a new device, you would install electrum and then click on i already have a seed and then you type the seed etc.

Thanks.

Okay thanks for that information. So what if you open electrum now then but don't download new version.  Is that fine or not?  It says shut down electrum immediately but i assume only if you open the wallet?  Such as imagine you open electrum but don't put in your password to open the encryption?

What do you mean PGP signature?

Yes im going to wait as well in case this is a hack where the forum/mod got hacked.
3014  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Electrum vulnerability found today! on: January 07, 2018, 04:18:27 PM
Does anyone here think it could be the mod or forum hacked getting you to download the new wallet though?

When you guys did the update when downloading new electrum, did it require you to type down the 12 word seed or not?  I updated electrum few times and i don't recall if it did or not.  I assume yes because well you are creating a new wallet?  But no because well you are just upgrading from one to another?
3015  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Critical Security Release: Please update to Electrum 3.0.4 on: January 07, 2018, 04:14:00 PM
Well i do have a password on my electrum.

But how many electrum users out there even know about this if they don't visit this forum.  What percentage of electrum users even visit this forum daily or check the electrum website for updates?

Well i have updated electrum few times when i had version 2.0 or 2.1 etc and then needed to upgrade to 2.2 etc.  But does anyone know when you do this when you download the new updated electrum on the website, do they ask you to type in the 12 word phrase?  I assume they have to right?  Because even though you still have old electrum wallet, it won't recognize it?  I updated electrum few times and i'm trying to remember if it ask me to type in the 12 word phrase as that option i already have a 12 word phrase etc.

Also someone mentioned this as well.  Is there a chance that this is a hack itself telling everyone to download the new electrum?  Thus the mod and/or site got hacked?

I assume it would be fine to wait until the dust settles then?  Because i can't imagine even 10 percent of electrum users know about this since they need to either visit this forum or visit the electrum website daily to make sure there is an update.
3016  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Critical Security Release: Please update to Electrum 3.0.4 on: January 07, 2018, 03:52:33 PM
Okay can someone explain exactly the issue here?

So what if you are using a version of electrum that is version 2.x and never upgraded for a while?  Do you need to upgrade to the new electrum 3.0.4?

Also i have upgraded electrum few times when it was say electrum 2.3 to 2.5 etc.  I have done this few times to the new version.  But when you do this, does it require you to type down the 12 word phrase each time on the new wallet?  I do not recall if it did or not.  Also are you fine using electrum version 2.x as it is without upgrading right now?

3019  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: List of ways to cash out bitcoin to US bank account? on: January 06, 2018, 07:20:53 AM
I used google authenticator on my old phone.  I did not write down my 2FA secret key for coinbase.  The old phone no longer works at all.

Im using a new phone and i like to use 2FA on it but the issue is well i have to reset the old iphone 2FA or remove it etc.  But coinbase is not helpful because i keep getting error message verification.

Which are the exchanges in the US that actually allows you to cashout bitcoin into real money into bank account?  I only know about coinbase and gemini.
3020  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / List of ways to cash out bitcoin to US bank account? on: January 06, 2018, 07:07:56 AM
I'm American but outside the US at the moment.  I have a coinbase account that i created a while back and sent in documents and got verified.  However i had 2FA on it and no longer use that phone anymore.  I sent an email to coinbase on this and mentioned how i get an error but they don't seem to respond back or when they do, they don't seem to be helpful.

Gemini i cannot get verified because they seem to require a US cell number.  I have a us google voice number but according to them, that isn't allowed to get verified.  So I cannot even get verified on gemini.  Coinbase and gemini are the 2 sites that i read are the best ones to cash out real money to bank account.

Can someone tell me what are my other options besides coinbase/gdax and gemini if i want to convert my bitcoin into real cash to my bank account?  These are the 2 easiest ways that i heard was use coinbase or gemini but i cannot get verified on gemini... and with coinbase, they cannot even reset my 2FA because of a verification error.  I was told i would then upload my verification documents again but i cannot do this due to that verification error message.  Does kraken or bitstamp allow this?  Basically i want a way to cashout btc into real money to bank account whether its bank wire or ACH transfer etc.  A while back i used circle to do it and i thought it was great but they no longer allow it anymore.
