400,000 SIM card Chinese 'click farm' busted in Thailand

Three Chinese men were detained in Thailand on Tuesday after police discovered they were running a "click farm" from a house near the Cambodian border to generate likes for Chinese products on social media.

The trio was arrested on Sunday after police raided their rental home and discovered a rack of some 500 smart phones hooked up to a computer.
Police also confiscated nearly 400,000 Thai SIM cards allegedly purchased for the operation.

The men, in their late twenties and early thirties, told officers they were hired by Chinese companies to boost "likes" for a number of products, including herbal medicines, candy and a tour company.

"They have been charged with working without work permits because they are on tourist visas and smuggling contraband goods," said immigration officer Colonel Ruengdet Thammana, referring to the mobile phones.

Police decided to search the house after they noticed the men rarely left the building or spoke to other people.

Click farms are just one of many online scams that have proliferated in recent years and become a major scourge for social media giants.

Some farms control tens of thousands of fake social media accounts that can be programmed to like pages or posts.

A typical farm might boast hundreds of phones that scammers swap with different SIM cards registered to many accounts.
Or it might be a loose network of real users liking huge quantities of posts for a fee.

The farms are hired by ordinary people and politicians looking to boost their profiles, companies who want to game ranking algorithms to ensure products are given priority, and fake news writers seeking to get their headlines onto 'most read' lists.

India, the Philippines, Indonesia and China -- all countries with low wages but high tech penetration -- have emerged as key click farm hubs.
Web giants face a constant battle to tweak their algorithms to weed out fake traffic and users.

Last month Facebook said it was making changes to its ranking algorithm to keep its users from linking to "low quality" websites, part of an effort to fight spam and misinformation.

===========================================
I always thought that running something like this is possible nowadays but managing 400,000 sim cards and 500 smart phones is totally insane. There must be a big market for this kind of service since there are group of people out there willing to do this for a fee. I'm not gonna be surprised if there's one running in this forum.

At the end of the day, Cleveland Cavaliers was not able to match the firepower of the Golden State Warriors. The tandem of Kevin Durant and Steph Curry is simply unstoppable. Credits to Lebron James for giving out his A Game in all 5 games in the finals. He scored 41 points in game 5 but its not enough to stop Golden State Warriors from taking the championship trophy.

Bought some Bitshares on Poloniex last Friday thinking that I may get some profits because I see the direction of its movement is going up and in Poloniex it always green so I give it a try, after logging-in today I see it doubled. If this continues to trend upward I might buy some more.
3005  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: CAVS VS GSW on: June 12, 2017, 05:32:55 AM
I am not surprised to see Golden State Warriors lose in Game #4 and I am one of those thats says , should have... could have, would have... odds on game 4 is in favor of GSW but Cavs winning is more like a business decision rather than running after the championship ring. Bringing back the play-off at the home court of GSW would bring in money too not just the glory of winning the title back.
3006  Economy / Lending / Re: [NEED] 0.0092 BTC on: June 12, 2017, 05:22:54 AM
Why not post in Services Section and offer your services. If the price is reasonable I don't see any reason why you will not get a client in Instagram likes or promoting products in social media. Just add more options like Facebook and Twitter.
3007  Economy / Reputation / Re: why was i given - trust? on: June 09, 2017, 02:33:21 AM
Click the link below as it goes to your trust feedback it says there you are asking for a loan with out a valid collateral
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=893162

Below is the link where you created a thread asking for a loan and you will notice that people there asked you to offer a valid collateral as the collateral you offered is not enough to cover the loan plus the interest in case of default. You should have considered those suggestion as a warning instead of ignoring them and continue with your loan request.

3008  Local / Pamilihan / Re: [ACTIVE] Escrow Service of bL4nkcode (Hero Member) on: June 08, 2017, 09:07:10 AM
I will definitely get your services when the right time comes. I'm planning to offer short-term loan here in BCT. I'm just an observer lang here sa forum and not really active kaya newbie pa rin status ng account ko. Anyways, I'm just happy na pinoy pa yung nago2ffer ng free escrow. Goodluck! And see ya!

Its not actually free, but the fee bL4nkcode is asking is just small or minimal and that fee is very small compared to the peace of mind that you will have for hiring an escrow for a transaction.

Hello everyone this is bL4nkcode of bitcointalk I am offering FREE ESCROW here in local (Philippines) actually di siya actually free kase kase hihingi ako para sa transaction fee na .0003  to 0.0008btc for faster transaction.

While the forum allows off-topic topics, lets not take advantage of this by creating topics like "anong masarap na ulam today".
3010  Local / Others (Pilipinas) / Re: [Anunsyo]BPI Express Online Down on: June 08, 2017, 03:31:07 AM
Looks like this is not over yet as BPI posted in their Facebook page today that they will deactivate all electronic channels today (express online banking, mobile banking and their *119# USSD code). They are still receiving complaints that some depositors still have missing funds. Looks like their IT team will be busy in the next few hours or maybe days.

Anyone have trouble transferring funds from Coins.ph to BPI?
3011  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin or gold? on: June 08, 2017, 03:23:51 AM
If you can get both as an investment that's much better, Gold is easier to liquidate than Bitcoin. Third world Countries with low exposure in Bitcoin will surely choose Gold as a long term investment. While investing in Bitcoin in long term have higher risk's than Gold. There is no proof that can stand on it's own that Bitcoin will still exist after 10 years or more. If I buy Gold today and War breaks between countries, after the war I can still sell my Gold.
3012  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: need .008 into a bitcoin address for a .009+ armory wallet on: June 08, 2017, 02:48:51 AM
Bumping your own thread in less than 24 hours is not allowed in this forum, you may get suspended for doing that and posting the appraised value of your account will suggest that you plan not to take back the account if you use it as collateral since what you are asking is near the appraised value.
3013  Local / Others (Pilipinas) / [Anunsyo]BPI Express Online Down on: June 07, 2017, 02:11:27 AM
3014  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: do you use analysis when play gambling? on: June 06, 2017, 06:17:31 AM
In sports betting you can do analysis and there are lots of factors to consider when betting. Example is a basketball game.
-Whats the stats of both team. How many wins how many loses
-Who is playing in home court
-Who's team have complete line-up, is there anyone injured.
-Who's team is on a winning streak

In the game of cards you can do analysis but you have to be good in counting cards. Like how many Kings, Queens, Aces are already out in the table.

In a dice game, you cant. If you selected 50% chance of winning then you have 50% chance of losing. Even if you change it to 90% there's still 10% chance of losing the game.
3015  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: @Philippines An addicted gambler gone wild on: June 06, 2017, 06:05:15 AM
I watch the TV this morning and according to one of his friends which was interviewed in the national television, this guy was a good man, he had some good run and would like 15 million pesos and he think he can do it consistently but he failed. That's what I am saying, the reality will take place in the long run and we will just lose our money, this guy was so desperate that it end up killing innocent people before he ended his life.
I heard the interview of Mr Atong Ang which is a known gambling consultant in the Philippines and Mr Ang said the addiction started when Jessie Carlos won an accumulated of 15 Million Pesos or $303,000 USD in 1 week cock of fighting. Mr Carlos has loans from loan sharks inside the casino and there was a time that he needs to sell their property that has a market value of 202 Thousand USD but they were paid only $101,000 USD to pay for a loan worth $60,000 USD and the remaining $41,000 USD was used to gamble again my Mr Carlos. That's what you call addiction.
3016  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it easier to buy drugs, guns, and child pornography with Bitcoin than USD? on: June 06, 2017, 05:56:33 AM
At first it seems like a good idea to use Bitcoin to buy illegal items like guns, drugs and subscribe to child pornography because if being "anonymous" but one thing that needs to be considered if one plans to use Bitcoin is the fees that goes along with it and the time needed to have it confirmed. Another thing to consider is if someone will accept such payment since going through all the trouble is not only from the buyer but also from the seller as well.
3017  Local / Pilipinas / Re: Bitcon will be the future of the Phillipines ? on: June 05, 2017, 08:30:43 AM
3018  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: [HELP] Paypal on: June 05, 2017, 07:17:57 AM
Hey there..

I was wondering to sell my bitcoins and i saw very good rate for paypal. Like some offers $4000-$5000, if i sell BTC for paypal.

I don't know whats the paypal scam and how it works. I would like to know how it works and how can i safeguard myself.

Also in this case, how am i be scammed? I'll only be releasing my BTC when i received money in paypal.

Should i sell my btc for paypal to that guy?

Confused  Huh
If you plan to sell your Bitcoins in exchange for Paypal funds better chose a person who is known in this forum to avoid being scammed. The scam with Paypal is when they charge back or reverse the amount they paid you and you will end up with nothing. Try sending zazarb a PM, I know he is one of those who exchanges BTC to Paypal heres a link to his profile https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=369212
3019  Local / Pamilihan / Re: possible mag buy and sell dito sa philippines thread? on: June 05, 2017, 06:25:38 AM
Hello ask ko lang if possible ba tayo gumawa ng thread ng buy and sell para ma localize natin if ever may ibebenta tayo na physical products etc.?

thanks
3020  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why is gambling so addicting? on: June 05, 2017, 06:21:08 AM
It is addicting if you allowed your self to be addicted to it, however, I would rather be addicted to something that is productive and will not cost me money. It's sad that there are people out there who are so addicted to gambling that they lose their mind. Just like what happened recently here in the Philippines where one gambler lost $2.6 Million USD in gambling and he lost his mind, entered the casino premises with an M4, burned the casino tables, and stole $2 Million USD worth of chips. His family already asked casino owners to ban him prom entering the casino premises but he still was able to play and lost more money.
