3001  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Old motherboard not detecting new GPU on: April 15, 2022, 03:09:36 PM
Newer GPUs have an UEFI Bios therefore you need to deactivate CSM compatibility and set it to UEFI only.

 Smiley
How Do I do that? I read something similiar to this previously however I couldn’t find CSM compatibility in this very old bios.

Don't worry about that your ASUS board doesn't support UEFI and doesn't have CSM compatibility.
That might be the issue with newer videocards like the RTX ones.
You might have better luck with an AMD card like a RX 6600 (XT) if you have a friend with an AMD card you can try that.
I may buy an rx 480/580 8gb If I can find it for a reasonable price, ill see what happens.
No need to buy these graphics cards now. They are good at mining ethereum, but recently ethereum developers tweeted that mining would end soon. These video cards will be very cheap, because they do not have a very good hash rate on other algorithms.

With just 10 pieces of 3090s you are already at 1GH on the Ethash algorithm, why aren't people doing this instead of having so many GPUs around, taking so much space and having to use more risers and more motherboard, why are people not going this way?.

I have 2x 8 card 3090 cases.

I have a 3rd case.

use this case

https://minerdude.com/product/minerdude-x8ultra-plus/

with 8 of these.

https://www.newegg.com/evga-geforce-rtx-3090-24g-p5-3987-kr/p/N82E16814487526

nice gear.

good rigs.
Very high price. Even if I needed a closed case, I would have assembled it myself from analogues no more than $ 650. But if they calculate the cost of PTX 3090 video cards, then for a similar price you can get a larger hashrate.
3003  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining CPU, RAM, SDD/HDD on: April 15, 2022, 02:53:23 PM
If a budget 2-4 core processor is installed on the computer, then when mining on Windows and simultaneously working or watching a video, a decrease in the hashrate of the video card will be seen. That is, if you mine on your work PC, it is better that it has modern characteristics so that you can work comfortably.

https://www.fsplifestyle.com/tr/product/cannon1300w.html

I am using this power supply. It hasn't been a problem for years. The only problem is that the fan noise is loud. When you replace this fan with a silent fan, it is a very efficient and trouble-free product. I am very glad that I use for in different power products. When you take the product in your hands, the quality of the cable and the weight of the product show you that it is a monster.
This PSU looks like a server PSU I will like to try it out but I can't get this shipped to me since I'm far away in Africa(high shipping fee), the nearest place I can order this from is China, I don't know if I can get one on AliExpress or Alibaba website but I will check it out.
I think it's ATX mining standard
Server PSUs look different
https://www.parallelminer.com/product/hp-1200w-platinum-power-supply-110-240v-gpu-mining-psu/
I think that in China you will find many good server options for your mining farm.

The link you provided has some very good power supplies. I converted and used the outputs of old used server power supplies with the cables I got from the faulty power supplies. Server power supplies are also very efficient products and are very inexpensive. Only the cooling system is very noisy. Fans need to be replaced with silent fans.
No need to change the fans on the server power supply, because you risk overheating the transistors and breaking the PSU. For a home, a balcony, it is better to choose quiet ATX PSUs, if you have a separate room and a lot of video cards, then noise is no longer a problem and you can use server PSUs.

When you have experience mining on RTX 3090 graphics cards, then you will not ask such questions. You need to buy expensive closed cases, make ventilation, change thermal pads. And you will all be in trouble in the summer.
And instead of this, I’ll buy 20 cold 50 MН video cards, let’s say Radeon RX 6700 XT.

Let's mining a few more months, here's the news:
The Ethereum merger from PoW (Proof of Work) to PoS (Proof of Stake) has been delayed until the second half of this year, possibly as early as the third quarter.
On April 13, Ethereum Foundation developer Tim Beiko said in response to a follower’s inquiry that the merged part of the 2.0 upgrade will not be completed in the expected June, “but it may be in the future. In a few months, no exact date yet, but we are definitely in the last chapter of Ethereum PoW.”

3007  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Quadcore with pcie extender on: April 14, 2022, 09:47:43 AM
Old motherboards with Intel or AMD processors drew 100 or more watts from the wall, newer motherboards with budget inexpensive processors draw about 50 watts from the wall. But the main thing is stable work, which old motherboards cannot give. I used them, but they worked for a maximum of 2 years.
3008  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Question about cooling 3090ti vs 3090 on: April 14, 2022, 09:42:16 AM
I've not used or bought any RTX 3090ti but since this graphic card is more powerful than RTX 3090 I'm just curious how the cooling system is, have Nvidia learned a lesson from RTX 3090 and RTX 3080 heat issues? Is 3090ti cooling improved?.
The same problems can be with overheating of memory during mining. I advise you to find good reviews on specific models and make a purchase decision. A non-reference cooling system is made by video card manufacturers, not by Nvidia.
3009  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: I killed a GPU can you help me fix on: April 14, 2022, 09:35:37 AM
You can take apart the fan shroud and see if there is anything which blew up. If it’s something common like a capacitor you can find a replacement for it and see if it works.

Most likely you will see lots of burn marks and even PCB can be damaged. However you might get lucky and just need to replace a few capacitors.

Not the first time it happened. It happened to miners other times. Usually when they are in a rush to build a rig and end up plugging it in backwards.
It is unlikely that you will find blew up elements on the video card board. There is no protection on these power lines. If the voltage is too high, then it gets to the video chip and this is a serious consequence. Diagnosis is possible only in a specialized workshop, it is better not to do it yourself. Even such a video card can be sold for spare parts for 30-50% of the cost.
3010  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ETH merge postponed on: April 14, 2022, 09:26:40 AM
Are you guys aware that the PoS merge has been postponed? This is good news, those that invested in graphic cards in January of the year can make most of their money back by December, I believe that merge isn't coming this year,  Grin enjoy the last stage of ETH mining felllas.

Do you think that 1-2 months will change something? This will give the miners some extra income.

3011  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: A strange noise coming from my power supply on: April 13, 2022, 10:42:05 AM
As a rule, whistling or hum can be emitted by inductors or chokes.

These elements make a sound during operation, but a person hears sounds with a frequency higher of 20 hertz. Read about it online.
If, under load of 90% of the power, the power supply produces stable voltages and there is no burning smell, then I would not worry much.
FP91G is right you are hearing chokes noise dont worry about it you noise makes uncomfortable you need to replace them
Why change chokes?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNWmMjFZojE
This problem is very common in many products. Try filling the chokes with epoxy. But it is very difficult to change chokes on a power supply without experience, and the workshop will probably not take such power supplies for repair if they are working.

I have such motherboards, but I had other problems. Your errors may be due to hardware problems on the motherboard. About the main problem is a lack of power or overclocking. But the lack of power or overclocking may be due to hardware problems on the motherboard.Check all power circuits, overclocking parameters.
3013  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Seeking for Chia mining answers on: April 13, 2022, 10:23:19 AM
If you are running a chia mining build your attention is needed, I want to get some accurate answers about chia mining, I know its less profitable compared to GPU mining but what about chia build power consumption? Is it something that can work on a raspberry? How efficiency is it compare to running GPU rig?
I think that at a price of 60 dollars it is probably more profitable to buy this coin. You need powerful plotting equipment, you need to spend a lot of time preparing for mining. Better mine on video cards, it's faster and easier.

How come im getting 20MH off two 1060 6gb versions that inset up for my little brother? I'm using Nicehash and this is what im getting, power draw is 60watt, is this what im suppose to get.
Install MSI Afterburner and set the maximum power limit. memory in the range + 500 + 900, depending on your video card and cooling, I have +600 +650. Core up to +100. Then you will get 22.5-23 megahash. I'm tired of writing that you will have more consumption from the wall.

folks,

it seems that Nvidia GPUs are available everywhere. 3070, 3080, and 3090.

my local micro center has a bunch in stock.

I'm about to buy a few, but hesitant to add more rigs. anyone know why so many video cards are available?
https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/ethereum-hashrate.html#1y
You can see that miners have stopped buying video cards in bulk since the beginning of 2022, because the payback period is very long.
Even if the transition to the POS algorithm is a little delayed, now is not the best time to buy.

This is probably the best and most informative resource for calculating profit when using ASICs.

This is the best resource for graphics cards. If you can combine them, then you will have a better resource. So far I don't like your site.
3018  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining rig burning smell! on: April 13, 2022, 09:53:04 AM
The first psu arrived and i spent some hours to assemble everything with only 5 gpus that work as ever, luckily.
Tomorrow the second psu will arrive and i will install the other 5 gpus.
Now i want to know approximately the power consumption of all the system in addition to the gpus, so the mobo, the risers, the ssd, the ram ecc..
So i can have an idea about the total power drain of my rig other than all the 10 gpus.
I took 2 of these:
https://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B09JP7QPSV/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I think these psus are perfect and now i have been able to arrange all the cables neatly and not tangled between the gpus.
I only have a doubt about the risers connections, because i used 3 molex connectors located along a single cable, but I have heard that it is better not to go beyond the two cable connectors per single cable.
Right?
However it's confusing because i found in the psu package, 2 molex cable with 4 connectors per cable.
Thanks again!

no no no no no no.

a molex can only do 1 riser safely
2 risers are a risk
3 riser = meltdown
If using Radeon RX 6600 XT and GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, then I would connect these 2 raisers from 1 single power branch, provided that the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti does not consume more than 140 watts. This is bad, but my farms have been working like this for 6 years, but I have high-quality wires and expensive PSUs. For such a number of video cards, it would probably be better to order a ready-made server block for 2 kilowatts for 200-250 dollars.
3019  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Eth stake question related to mining on: April 13, 2022, 09:35:27 AM
That's on your mining pool to decide, if you don't reach the payment threshold by the time they will find other ways to pay but if you still don't like this idea I suggest you start using 2miners and Viabtc pool where they pay out if you have just 1$ in your mining wallet.
Mining pools offer mining services not only on ETH. Let's say you have unpaid coins on your balance, and the pool will be able to pay you a reward in a new network with a POS algorithm. It's not worth worrying about, but I try to choose a payout limit so that I receive payments once a week.

I am trying to help my home boy build a 6 gpu rig but he only has a old core2quad desktop with 4 PCIe x1 slots and 1 x16 PCIe slot so my question goes like this, will a Pcie extender work on an old quadcore motherboard?.
Your motherboard is more than 10 years old, I'm not sure that it will work stably in mining. I used such motherboards, but they died within 1 year on average. On older motherboards, new video cards may not be detected. Better make the first mining farm of 5 video cards.
