3001  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 21, 2017, 01:48:27 AM
Is it just me or did Kraken EUR/BTC just go bonkers on Bitcoinwisdom? Displaying 27089151782715.50 or some ridiculous number for me right now and very little volume. I hope BTC will get there someday, but seems like their API or something of the sort broke.
3002  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: October 21, 2017, 01:45:32 AM
Hi guys,

Has anyone ordered Antminers from  European re-sellers? I am planning to start my mining endeavour this month.
Like this:
https://www.antminereurope.com/antminer-s9/

They have ~20% higher price, but if you count the EU customs taxes and problems (when ordering directly from China) it could compensate.

I am afraid, such re-sellers might be a scam though.

Another question, is anyone mining other sha-256 coins with antminers, is it currently worth?
Other coins are sometimes more profitable but they aren't most of the time, and it's better to just mine BTC straight up most of the time. Some people also switch to BCH during EDA for extra profit. I haven't heard of the store you mentioned yourself, you'd have to find someone else who can verify it's legit.
3003  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Replacement fan for eBit miner on: October 21, 2017, 01:43:33 AM
It's not possible to change the fan for quieter operation because any other fan will not have enough static pressure and/or airflow to cool the miner aquedately, and other possibly suitable fans will be just as loud. Philipma has a YouTube channel where he documents quieting Avalon miners and it'd work for your Ebits as well; it should be cheaper than a soundproofing cabinet. The channel is called Philipma 1957.
3004  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon 741 came in! What PSU connectors???? on: October 19, 2017, 08:02:27 PM
Parallelminer also has a nice coupon code "slush" right now for 5% off IIRC. The paperclip trick is easy to do but if you somehow can't do it people do sell switch like things that do the same thing. Here's how you can do it if you get a standard computer PSU: http://aphnetworks.com/tutorials/psu_paperclip_trick
3005  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Dual molex to dual PCIe 8 pins safe? on: October 19, 2017, 01:09:49 PM
They work but there’s no guarantee of the quality of these risers, so beware of that. It’s always best to run your cards from straight 8 or six pin power cords, but if you need to monitor the cable to make sure it doesn’t burn or something like that. With server power supplies you can wire the cables yourselves so you can get more six and eight pin connectors and they tend to be more reliable in my experience.
3006  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: What is the purpose of mini/usb miners? on: October 19, 2017, 01:06:08 PM
They’re fun to run and they’re also nice collectibles. I have a long obsolete Block Erupter I bought from 2013 and I only keep it to remind myself of the old times. They also look pretty nice as display units. Then you have lottery mining too with more recent sticks. Mostly I like them because they aren’t as plug and play as the big miners nowadays and it brings us miners back to the days when huge miners didn’t exist.
3007  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is it safe to run a GPU under 45 degrees ? on: October 18, 2017, 11:10:54 PM
I ran a couple miners (ASIC and GPU) around 0 degrees Fahrenheit last year, and the operation ran smooth as butter with temperatures doing very well. As time goes on the temperature of the devices themselves will eventually go up too. Realistically it’s just a matter of keeping them in a stable place with ventilation and shelter from the elements and you are set. I also like to keep humidity down.
3008  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: mining power and help on: October 18, 2017, 10:58:57 PM
Normal computers aren’t even used in mining Bitcoin anymore, but they are used for Altcoin mining (eth, etc). For Bitcoin mining you have several options for ASIC (specialized devices specifically for mining Bitcoin and other SHA256 algo coins) miners like the Antminer S9, Avalon 7 and Ebit E9 to name a few. You’ll need power supplies for them (Server PSUs are cheap and reliable, easy to wire). For a building, large buildings like old factories are good places for big farms (ventilation and ways to keep out rain and keeping humidity low is required), but some people mine in their sheds for small operations (ventilation still needed). You’ll also need to check your electrical costs- below ten cents per kilowatt is good for mining, above not so much. Those are the basics but there are many more things you’ll need to calculate before trying to mine. The Hardware section is a nice place to learn the basics of mining and such. Good luck!
3009  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Stock exchange listing on: October 18, 2017, 07:52:46 PM
There's no point when you can mine yourself or just buy into cloudmining services directly anyways, or simply HODL which provides great returns. Cloud mining is and has always been risky too, and I personally would only trust Hashnest with any of my money for cloud mining. Remember if you choose to cloud mine- only invest as much as you can afford to lose.
3010  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Japanese company GMO announcing new hardware and mining operation on: October 18, 2017, 07:50:06 PM
Do we know when the timeline will be released? This looks really promising if I can get my hands on it.
There hasn't been any and with no real consumer 7nm chips even out for desktop and laptop processors, I'd stick with NotFuzzyWarm's estimate of late 2018 at best. Sales also haven't been announced yet at all, seems reasonable as the tech isn't even there for any real 7nm production yet.
3011  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: S9 available again on Bitmain on: October 18, 2017, 07:47:56 PM
it is like what $200 more? and STILL fucking BCC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They just won't give up on the useless crypto, and it was probably the price rise that "warranted" the price rise. Perhaps when S2X crashes and burns they'll finally start accepting BTC again. For now I highly recommend Canaan as an alternative supplier; although they do mine slightly slower and aren't as efficient, they still mine very well and are much more reliable than Antminers.
3012  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: is there a safe way to clean an AvalonMiner 741? on: October 18, 2017, 07:45:51 PM
Compressed air can be pretty cheap and if you want to spend a little more money you can get one of those electric computer blowers. I prefer old fashioned canned air though. Make sure the fans don't move when you dust them out to prevent any possible damage. For the stuff the air can't dislodge, I use paper to get it off.
3013  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: October 16, 2017, 11:34:23 AM
Hi, I sell 8 pieces of S9 miners, they have another 3 months warranty, I want for one miner $ 670, if you buy all at once sells cheaper, if someone is interested, let me know, all documents for miners also have, you can apply to my electronic address anisovaleksandr1990@gmail.com

I've send you a PM. I know that you are newbie, and everything is suspicious. If you respond to mail, and show some pictures that this is possibly true. We can use Escrow and do the transaction.
It’s a pretty obvious scam, nobody in their right mind would sell an S9 for $670 and chances are he will not take escrow and will ask for you to send your money first. Plus his account is brand new. Would not trust him at all.
3014  Economy / Speculation / Re: nrd525 Market Tracker on: October 13, 2017, 10:31:53 AM
BTC new ATH of 5400.

It's just so insane that I really don't know what to say.    It's especially high considering the upcoming November 13-14 (approximately) 2X hardfork.  The last hard fork might be setting us up to under-estimate the damage that it will cause - especially if there is no clear majority as to what side will win and if there is no replay protection.
Some people may be buying up just to get 2X coins too; it seemingly happened the last time a fork like this was scheduled (BU). We're back in the green, at least temporarily, but who knows how long we will be here...
3015  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What is the disadvantage of mining with a laptop pc on: October 13, 2017, 10:22:53 AM
Laptop cooling sucks. Most laptops nowadays are designed to be super slim and mining often makes the fans spin at very high rates which can cause early fan failure on the laptop and heat throttling and just plain high temps. Throttling also means you'll be getting less performance on most laptops. There's a reason why mining is usually only done on desktops, and there's good reasons why.
3016  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Open box Biostar TB250 mobo BTC edition for $50 on Newegg no rebate on: October 13, 2017, 10:19:35 AM
And just like that the motherboard was SOLD!

Too bad, that was a good deal. I've been using the same for my rigs for 2 months now and i've had no issues at all. 12-GPU awesomeness and everything is just plug and play (and set mining mode in BIOS). It works well with AMD, NVIDIA, or even a mixed AMD-NVIDIA rig.

Thanks for posting anyway and congrats to the buyer.
Ah, thanks for letting me know. I will lock the thread now, it is a very nice motherboard despite all the negative reviews on Newegg (probably the worst place for reviews lol). Shame Newegg can't have deals like this all the time.
3017  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 13, 2017, 10:16:38 AM
I don't know about you guys, I think I'm a bad person.

I am really enjoying the butthurt of nay-saying late adopters on other (non BTC) forums I frequent.

Tastes sweet man.

I sometimes enjoy reading the posts of readers following a bitcoin article in some msm outlets. they hated it and didn't get it when it went over $100. the hated it and didn't´t get it when it went over $1000.  they just do not see the technology breakthrough part.
this helpless, clueless ignorance is sometimes entertaining.

disclaimer: I was clueless and ignorant myself when the internet started. if thought it was a hype and hated it. couldn't´t grasp what a "browser" was.  when the internet bubble started I was one of the last fools to burn my fingers.  but I did figure out what an idiot I was and decided to not let that happen again. when I discovered bitcoin I knew I would not let this one go by due to ignorance. learnt much about bitcoin and hodling in this forum. thank you all. without this forum I would not be in the position I am.

Yep.. this forum and this thread has been a great place for inspiration and up to date knowledge sharing.. etc.. etc..
There's no better place to escape the trolls (mostly) and get up to date information without rampant censorship like sometimes seen on Reddit. The forum has always been friendly and reliable and it's going to stay that way. Sometimes people do not see things from all sides and that's probably what happened to people that didn't get why Bitcoin went over $1000 the first time.
3018  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain looks like they're releasing a 15GH/s DASH miner called the AntMiner D3 on: October 12, 2017, 08:20:43 PM
That is exactly why more competition would be needed in the market.
It would make companies treat hardware buying customers better.
I completely agree. As long as Bitmain has a hold over mining, they have a huge influence over Bitcoin all crypto as seen with S2X, etc. Hopefully we can get back to times like ‘14 and ‘15 with more viable options so we don’t have Bitmain dictating every move and making shitty miners because they can.

It’s also a learning experience for the newbies here, mining is profitable but not as much as it might seem. Sometimes it’s better to take BTC for relatively more stable ROI than more risky investments, remember mining is not all what it looks like and there’s luck involved.
3019  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Open box Biostar TB250 mobo BTC edition for $50 on Newegg no rebate on: October 12, 2017, 08:14:55 PM
Myself, I usually avoid any open box items as they probably indicate potential issues. PSUs and Motherboards especially, as if someone bought it and tried to get it mining and failed, they might have simply sent it back. Now NewEgg doing a basic testing might now be selling it as Open Box. I think they are only $69 normally, so you saved $19, I wish you the best of luck with it.
Newegg does a good job with open box items and I have personally never had any major issues with their open box items. Most of the reviews are just from newbies who don't know how to setup a mining rig properly, and any savings are good when you're mining. 30 days is usually enough to expose any major issues with a motherboard anyways, so I feel the savings are justifiable for an open box item.
3020  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mining by using website visiters on: October 12, 2017, 08:11:30 PM
Most websites use Javascript to load an altcoin mining script on the browser that can be used to mine various coins, usually XMR. Adblock can stop this. No website or plugin actually mines Bitcoin, so I would suggest moving this thread to the Altcoin Mining section.
