3001  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA Conference League Discussion Thread -- 2022/23 | Group Stages on: February 14, 2023, 01:47:24 PM
Wake up, boys and girl. Europa Conference starts again. I might actually get to see a couple of games just to re-familiarise myself with teams again. My eye is on Cluj, who are 10/1 to beat Roma at home. Probably not the best bet to take on paper, but Mou's team has had a stuttering 2023, winning only once in the last four games, while Cluj themselves have been losing the last two games.

Something has to give and I think it's a Romanian upset.
3002  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA Europa League Discussion Thread -- 2022/23 | Group Stages on: February 14, 2023, 12:50:43 PM
I know everyone's all eyes on Champions League, and all for good reason but there's a special game I'm putting money on and that's Barca-United... in a world where City and Liverpool, before them Real, Bayern etc, have all set straight wins records across all competitions (I can't count teams like Ajax, can I?) Xavi will be aiming to create a new record with 12 straight wins.

And his team is better, works harder, and hungrier. Anyone else watching the next ties?
3003  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin hits 500 GB size hard disk data on: February 14, 2023, 10:46:20 AM
my point was.
when people shout moores law and say we are at the end

i recall when i was last at the edges of the end of moores law in computing over 25 years ago
.. until it wasnt the end and life moved on

I recall that same period too. The excitement of zip drives (I invested pretty heavily in that dealing with clients and showing them graphics and stuff on the move), the deals I thought were crazy in those days to buy new drives. The memory disks for Playstation that we thought were amazing... this was back when we were doing our best to keep file sizes low, compressing images on websites. Even had all kinds of golden rules for uploading things so people don't die on dialup waiting to load our sites.

Now we're uploading things to the best resolution possible, and my kids are eating up hundreds of gbs of data on their phones daily.

So yeah, I don't think we're at the edge, or that edge is getting farther out than is possible for most.

Big deal 500gb =D

So Liverpool returning to winning ways, was about time if you ask me. Did not watch the game so just one question. Was Liverpool that good or was Everton just poor? Want to judge them properly to maybe sieze some opportunity for bet against Newcastle.

Newcastle has dropped the form a bit and this match does not look as difficult as it would be a couple of weeks ago.

All those players coming back should help even more.

My (probably incredibly biased) view: we were good. Fabinho played his best game in a long time (not that he was great, he was just doing his job and only 1 silly tackle), Bajcetic was superb, Robbo was to me the best player on the field, you never leave him out of a derby. Nunez was his usual threat, and usually not converting but I insist he is being unlucky.

Everton weren't poor, but clearly they were unable to produce the same levels Dyche is demanding, but on that performance they could have beaten most teams in the league.

Jota and Bobby came on to play a bit and I liked what I saw generally. 7 attempts on goal vs Everton's 1 was a fair summary.

And yes, of course I am happy to make back some money, I missed out on 17/10 but I think 16/10 against relegation strugglers was very fair value. At no point in the match did we look like we'd lose.
3005  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: February 13, 2023, 08:48:47 PM
So proud of you @CLS63. I went far simpler than that, just betting simple ML at almost 10 mins live with every satoshi SB would allow me heh. This wasn't even coins I was supposed to have but you know how it goes (one last time). We'll both breathe easier if we get another goal or two but it's a proper derby so far!

The Salah-Nunez-Salah goal... that was so reminiscent of old Liverpool that it almost cut me to see it. Credit to Nunez, Diaz and Mane wouldn't have matched that speed. Extra painful joy was that it was a counter from an Everton header that hit the post...

I do hope that Jota, Diaz and Bobby will help us turn things around. The bigger problem is our midfield though - and that won't be solved before the summer.

Speaking of, I didn't expect to see even one of them but Jota, Bobby, even VVD were all on the bench today!
3006  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🦊 Betnomi.com | FPL Football Pool ⚽ Discussion Thread on: February 13, 2023, 08:03:00 PM
it is good to miss the deadline, I benched Almiron, and he scored, it is what it is
and I transferred Shaw out for Akanji, Pep is probably smiling from his position at me (didn't think it through, planned to bench Shaw and transfer one player from my bench, but eventually did it a stupid way, didn't affect this round, but will future rounds)

so far, my biggest mistake was in first round, when I put all most inexpensive players on my bench, to secure better first team, but figured out during season that bench is also important, and all 15 players should be starters from first round, it increase team value with time, and doesn't cost much in beginning

It definitely is what it is. Even Toney was a gift to me, he was offside and I got free points.

I can't really pinpoint where my main mistakes were, perhaps to use my wild card badly? I'm activating Bench Boost also for next one, just because. Oh and yeah, I finally have Almiron out. You know, because they meet Liverpool next and will probably win...

Just looking at the statistics of Gakpo's past performances, I can't help thinking that he could be an incredibly profitable differential.

This was Liverpool written all over it... moneyball stats style. Except, Klopp probably only had the data but didn't know what to do with it (the main brains behind the analysis are either gone or about to leave). We're hiring a replacement supposedly who's already almost at the club but I can't feel too confident, cause we had the best, and now they're all gone to our rivals...
3007  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC Sentiment Poll for February on: February 13, 2023, 06:58:58 PM
Economic performance? Sure. If anything, Bitcoin of the last couple of years, at least 2022 anyway, shows a really strong correlation, particularly with stocks. I can go back all the way to the last true black swan of March 2020 -- Bitcoin's crash, which was nothing if not a direct impact of a global Black Thursday.

Yeah but just saying, there could come a point when the market runs out of sellers and some people still holding their bags start going 'fck it, I'm holding all my sht to zero' aka stop caring about the news and all the economc data they churn out.

Anyway, I've been doing these sentiment threads for a while now, I wonder how the BTC turned out on the month vs user sentiment...  Will check it out if I'm in the mood.  Wink  I feel like we're more in tuned with the market than most folks.

That'll never happen, at least, not for too long but yeah of course, I completely buy into the theory of temporary seller exhaustion. Call it what you want, weak hands all gone, I call it purging of the speculators.

That said, if all we have left are bagholders who aren't using or spending, it's also not good for Bitcoin's long-term health. So in that sense, every seller creates a transaction, so I kind of see them as vital for transactional "health" haha.

Cool if you put sentiment out and forum regs chime in. I want to know if it's a good idea to sell some BTC now to buy back in at a... 25% dip? I never done it and don't play the game but I wonder if, instead of doing that, freeze my DCA for a while to wait for the dip and lump in all in? Don't ask me why I'm suddenly feeling like this heh.

Right on Slissy, and thanks again Cro2 for organising this. LTU_btc, have mercy.

I went ahead and put my answers with gut instead of research, let's see how that works out on "opening day" haha. NBA points question at the end: I always thought a normal game has all players score something!

That infrastructure improves is a given, but all those improvements won't mean much if we don't also maintain trajectory for utility (and that's to me without custodial services) as well as fundamentals securing the network (hashrate for sure, but probably also node numbers and diversity). Of course it has to be more complex than that but I tend to see these as more important.
3011  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoiners with Alzheimer's. How do you work it out? on: February 12, 2023, 10:48:10 PM
Never specifically referenced Alzheimer but it is certainly one of the things I would consider as sudden loss of access... Something that really does sit on the edge of my thoughts when I think of my bitcoin and inheritance.

Do not have much to make a difference now, but hopefully enough to have an impact in the future for whoever inherits.

But back to you. There was recent buzz about a new drug in some journals. Called lecanemab. Seems to be a big deal. Seems as if people are hopeful they're on to something. I only know because of a small local org I support. You heard of it?

Me, how do I deal with mental health, probably not much. I do worry at times. My last six years especially has not been healthy, socially. I physically have not met many people, owing to circumstance (I am a carer).

Culturally, where I come from, we also don't talk about it. Just soldier on. But we are not living in the same society now. I do believe the mental stresses are different.

Good you talked about it. Now to continue seeking professional and relatable audiences -) Good luck, PG.

Hello! Yeah, F1 about to start again, had no idea. Count me in as usual. As jeremypwr points out, even signing up gets you half the fee back. Then you need one yellow cap (all I managed haha) to make it a positive return in value.

And that's me as an outsider with very little current knowledge. I do follow some of the races though (my kid's watching them all, more than football).
3013  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: French Soccer League Predictions and Discussion Thread (Ligue 1) on: February 12, 2023, 06:35:49 PM
Not really no I don't usually bet long term like this but actually yes I have been hoping for Monaco for quite a long time now, and yesterday I took them with a small multibet together with Barcelona.

The only bad thing is that this was my insurance freebet from Sportsbet, instead of a bigger bet that I used to go for Arsenal who didn't win!

Still to get back the freebet and win something (if Barca win) is better than nothing!

Indeed. I never really made any calculations but I've definitely won quite a few of those insurance freebets -- probably would be better if I took proper risks but I tend to see those freebets as a second chance and put them on something even more unlikely ha.

Saw that you tied the Monaco game with Barca, good luck, didn't believe in Marseille enough? Wink
3014  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🦊 Betnomi.com | FPL Football Pool ⚽ Discussion Thread on: February 12, 2023, 05:53:58 PM
What a week so far. Anybody with more than 20 points? If you are your team is probably actually quite bad and you got lucky  Tongue

I just hope Manchester clubs come to my rescue now and probably only player that can actually help my rank is Fernandez. All other players that I have from these 2 clubs are  owned by almost everybody since they are Haaland, Mahrez and Rashford. Even left Shaw on bench for Botman, looks stupid so far.

Really got screwed yesterday with Newcastle conceding since I had double defense and Arsenal not winning since I had them on all my tickets.

Yeah, I'm on more than 20 points, and that's because I forgot all about transferring out Almiron (10 points) and my insistence to hold on to Toney one last game (9 points) haha. Saka even got 6 points and there's still City to play, so who knows? So yes, my team is actually quite bad hah.

Rashford being Rashford, he's just himself a goal so that's a nice padding for the most dependable player in RPL at the moment. So we got hopes also for Haaland (already an assist). Shaw got an assist, oops (Botman on my bench actually!).

And yes, I'm one of the Ake fools...

104 from 115 in SB league, am I the most improved player? haha
3015  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: February 12, 2023, 04:48:58 PM
United in second place haha. Bet they didn't see this coming (yeah, played 2 games more but let them have it, the bastards haha).

Anyway, just read that PGMOL have admitted VAR errors (think casperBGD or cryptofrka mentioned earlier about Toney's offside goal) already in 2 recent games... Arsenal dropped points in 2 games where VAR errors were admitted (yesterday and much earlier in the season when they had a disallowed goal against United before going on to lose 3-1).

If them Gooners lose this league by a game or two, it will be injustice. I do believe that everything evens out in the end, over the course of a season, but VAR is a beast that has caused too much unnecessary pain.

Nobody looks like they want to grab their top 4 spot (excluding Arsenal & City). Newcastle are stuttering, as are Spurs. Maybe I’m deluded but if LFC can put a run together maybe 4th isn’t out of the question. Jota, VVD, Firmino back in training. Luis Diaz not far behind.

I’m probably being stupid but if we win our next two games we’d be 6 points behind Newcastle with 1 game in hand on them (we play them next week).

It’s a long shot but I think it’s possible. We just need to get our act together and start winning games.
I had 3 points in this round. I noticed that most of the participants achieved few points. It became difficult to predict the correct and close result of the EPL matches.

Well, you can't blame us for taking out the calculator and counting possible points but yeah, we have been here before not too long ago actually (I still remember that season we were playing with 15 different CB pairings waiting for VVD to come back from injury and then Salah/Mane hit top gear to take us home to UCL qualification.

We've always been strong finishers, so let's see. Game by game though and it starts tomorrow.

At this point, I don't care. Want to get out of drama, I'm hearing all sorts of rumours about the club and Klopp. What I'd give to see Bobby, Diaz, Jota, VVD, all back and playing our familiar brand of football again.
3016  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: EFL English Championship League 2022/2023 on: February 12, 2023, 03:40:11 PM
I was not sure about Sheffield Utd but they won easily against Swansea, and I was more trying to avoid very unpredictable Swansea Smiley
Good thing that I had correct prediction on my other two picks for Burnley and Middlesbrough, they are both teams in great form.
There is no rest in Championship and new round is already starting in Tuesday, so keep your eyes on this topic for new preictions.

I'd definitely keep my picks on Blades and Burnley, but only if odds are closer to 2/1. They've got a bit of incentive to grow out of this punishing gauntlet of games in February until the 5th round of FA Cup distracts them again. Burnlet, especially, will not want to suffer the humiliation of another Fleetwood miracle then!

Also... Neil Warnock supposedly is coming out of retirement. These guys live forever haha.
3017  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC Sentiment Poll for February on: February 12, 2023, 03:03:51 PM
Easy for me to say of course with the hindsight of the last week, but yeah, it's going to require a full 15% rally, and sustained, to break and stay above $25k. Still very much on the cards, but I wonder if there's just too much uncertainty now to figure in that kind of push in 2.5 weeks --we're about to receive news on full 2022 economic performance and I suspect it will be worse than expected.

But does past economic performance really still have an effect on BTC and the altcoin market?

Economic performance? Sure. If anything, Bitcoin of the last couple of years, at least 2022 anyway, shows a really strong correlation, particularly with stocks. I can go back all the way to the last true black swan of March 2020 -- Bitcoin's crash, which was nothing if not a direct impact of a global Black Thursday.

yep it does look like there are no bears going to sell as such price anymore after it wont 24k last week. but the greed index in crypto market this week is not encouraging. its still in neutral 49 https://www.cointree.com/learn/crypto-fear-and-greed-index/
i guess it also convince investors that we are really no yet out of the woods.

while dow, s&r is already in the greed 70 https://edition.cnn.com/markets/fear-and-greed

Yeah, the index hasn't been as important to me as tech stocks index, not that I trade, it's just to me now a better indicator of what to expect in Bitcoin at least until the global economy calms down.
3018  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: February 12, 2023, 02:00:19 PM
I am not sure about this Chelsea side, just look at their line up. 3 attacking mids behind Havertz are Mudryk, Felix and Madueke, all three new to the club and all three untested in PL. Then you also have Fernadez and Badiashile in first 11 with same problems and on top of that their best player James is just coming back from injury. This Chelsea side has a lot of potential but I don't think they can gel together that quickly. Half of the first 11 has only know each other for 2 weeks. You can do something on individual quality but that is usually not enough in PL.

I am expecting Chelsea to struggle for a couple more weeks and than to have very strong finish to the season.

On the contrary, I think Chelsea might actually finish season more stronger except of course if they have many injury set backs, Chelsea looked quite better today even tough the result doesn't suggest that. I think they now have quite the right quality of team to compete against any team in the league, the combination of Joao Felix and Mykhailo Mudryk looks very dreadful for any defense if they're put to proper usage, and in the midfield Enzo indeed makes them better, I'm not justifying the prize being paid for him though Wink

Yeah, it was awful. This was one of those days I knew I was walking into a trap, and yet I stepped right into it anyway. I didn't think I'd ever say it but Nottingham Forest mercenaries seem to be far better at gelling together than Chelski bois.

I do think they and Liverpool will probably be the best performers of the last 10 games of the season though, one because they'll finally have spent enough time together, the other because they'll get back key players.
3019  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Eredivisie 22/23 - discussion thread on: February 12, 2023, 12:43:35 PM
AZ and PSV have started with a goal festival, now Ajax and Feyenoord have to follow suit to stay in front. Twente should also win if they want to stay in the TOP 5, otherwise the gap could be a bit big.

AZ now once at the top of the table, when was that last time? Are there any statistics on this?

Not in my very short lifetime of memory of Eredivisie, for sure! Going to need to look that up in Dutch to find it I guess, but no, I'm sure their fans are enjoying this for a long time

Now if only Waalwijk can do everyone a favour and take some points of Ajax to keep the dream of them not winning alive just a little longer, that'd be great, ha.

^ I wouldn't say there's no risk to anything, product or service, if it's crypto. Regulations have a funny way of meeting the requirements of those who made them up in the first place. Sure, to protect the (regular) consumer, but generally to benefit their positions. That said, I know too many people who've been hurt by their carelessness so at the same time, I would have to say I support regulations... because people can't seem to protect themselves.

Bitcoin, if used properly, doesn't have to be a problem even with regulations.
