3021  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "The Hive" a $14,000usd Bitcoin Art Piece on: January 23, 2015, 01:28:44 PM
why would you varnish it?

looks like any piece of wood that has been stained and varnished

it it were a rare piece of wood with natural colouring it would be best to leave 'au naturel'

+1.
This screamed out loud to me the first time I saw it and has done ever since.
It looks like some form of high gloss polyurethane varnish, totally inappropriate treatment for a rare piece of very hard wood (if that's what it is).

The touch of BTC in the cells is brilliant.

Yeah, a visual play on the BTC growing in the hive.
To have bees waxed the finished item would have been in keeping with this and allowed some patina to develop in the future, rather than gloss varnishing it to look like plastic.

Yes, I do know what I'm talking about. No, I am not someone else. Yes, I would like to see the carving video.

I see minethatcloud.com is redirecting to your site.
Are they doing this with your permission?
If so, what is the relationship between Cloudmining.website and minethatcloud.com?
Will minethatcloud contractees become .website clients?

Thanks.

LoLz... this is an interesting development. Now, anyone will create a scam, shut down and redirect to another website. Now the redirected website will be responsible for answering !!! From when redirection requires permission ? Cheesy

I fully understand that anyone can direct a site to another without permission. Sometimes it can indicate that one business has been taken over by another.
That's why I asked .website management for clarification, a simple answer to avoid confusion for minethatcloud account holders.
Do you speak for the management of .website?

This thread is titled "Nubbins is using a witch hunt to try and iliminate his competition".

As far as I can see, Nubbins makes $45 screen prints, whereas Woodcollector makes $$$ wall hanging sculptures and cheap bongs and dildos.
How are they in competition?

3025  Economy / Speculation / Re: How much wall street money will be pouring into bitcoin now? on: January 23, 2015, 11:01:10 AM
.....Remember WE are the price that any Bitcoin derivative is following. It will legitimize the markets greatly.

Be careful what you wish for. Wink
The relationship between derivatives and the "underlying asset" is complex but, although it might seem counter intuitive, derivatives can definitely affect the volatility and price of the "real" market they are supposed to be tracking.
Involvement with the Derivatives Industry will mean they will demand minimum standards for bitcoin's exchange infrastructure.
They will want to make sure that if anybody is manipulating prices, it's them.
This is a Dance with the Devil imo. Remember even Warren Buffet, everyone's favorite, called Derivatives "financial weapons of mass destruction".

Have you seen what is happened to williamj2543 ?

He has been caught red handed in lies and subterfuge with a known scammer and is still in denial about it.
He doesn't even address the above fatal flaw in his argument for a "fair ponzi".
If it wasn't in his own original game plan to rig the game, I'm sure it was in moreia's, else what was the need for the "investors" moreia said he had in place in the Skype call? He wasn't referring to gamblers, he was referring to alts to be tipped off and organized to keep the scam running whilst being paid thru early placement of their rigged bets, with williamj2543 directly personally benefiting thru his share of the 5%.

williamj2543's original motivation was pure greed and his reaction since he was unmasked as a liar has been to cover his ass.
He deserves all the negative trust he gets.
3028  Other / Meta / Re: Ponzi "Game" == Negative Trust? on: January 20, 2015, 08:39:50 AM
I'm curious how one would go about building a provably fair ponzi. With the majority of the dice sites out there, while you have a net -ve EV at least you can ensure the game is run fairly. With all these ponzis it would seem trivial for the operator to open a round and fund the first block of bets. If the ponzi goes nowhere, no loss to them. If it's a success, they've made a bunch of BTC with no risk to themselves.
It's a little different with these Ponzis than with a dice game, as Stunna could play as many rolls as he wanted to without affecting other players.

Exactly this is the point where those in favour of the ponzi usually start to question whether provably fair is fair in the first place instead of confronting the argument. Cant really blame them as its hard to prove you did not do something.

I don't think a ponzi can be made provably fair at all. How can you stop the ponzi operator to make a bunch of early deposits in each round?
You can't and that is the problem. The ponzi operator is going to know the exact time when a round opens so he can easily have transactions prepared to send to his deposit address while others would need to stumble across an advertisement for the ponzi and send funds to it
my bolds.

These +++

Until someone can address this without strawmanning off into irrelevant comparisons with dice, poker, sports bets etc., the fact remains that, even without the risk of the operator just running off with huge deposits, there is no way any "ponzi games" are better or more trustworthy than out and out Ponzi schemes.

Yes, I will answer any questions

To be honest mate, I wouldn't believe a word that came out of your mouth. The last time I came across you, "almost a hero member", you were shilling the cryptcominer.com Ponzi.

I confirm that this is not a scam.

right now its a great company with good support.

You guys are dumb. It was an obvious ponzi at the beginning

I will be explaining the story of kerimk2 and my partner (moreia). I am writing the post as we speak and I hope we can resolve this

Since his alt account is banned, he admitted that it is his alt account, and he is posting outside of meta (and meta for reasons other then to appeal his ban) would it be appropriate for him to get banned for ban evading?
My idiot partner had used that and tried to appeal, got my account banned.

Is moreia the "idiot partner"?

Not counting any chickens just yet, but these Iqonia guys sound promising.

Will compile a score when a bit more info available.

They do seem interesting.  If they can provide an address (they said they would once they start) and get BITMAIN or another vender to confirm their order I might buy a contract.

I've just done a bit more digging and Iqonia's parent company, white balance GMBH, appears to be owned by All3media Capital Ltd. a long term, multi million £ London registered media company.
This all subject to verification: having said that, I might be joining you.

3035  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] IQONIA - new transparent bitcoin cloud mining on: January 19, 2015, 07:23:36 PM
Congratulations on your attempt to provide a transparent mining service.
I'll be following your set up with interest, as I am sick and tired of being asked to invest in schemes which are obvious scams (one mentioned above).
I know you have a website Q&A page, but could you help me out with a couple of queries here?

Your parent company is White Balance Gmbh,  http://www.whitebalance.de/cms/ yes?
They seem to be a consultancy type operation, this must be quite a new thing for them, capital investment in mining.
Did this come about from Iqonia selling the concept to them, or was it an in-house project that you decided to go with yourselves?
Also, just to be clear, you have no association with Iqonia in Salzburg?

In your T&C's there are just a couple of things:
18 ) mentions UK law, but Bremen as the court of first instance? Why is that?
8 ) KYC. Does the identification procedure apply to non fiat purchases?

Thanks.
As I say, good luck, I feel that I may have at last found a home for some coin.
3036  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Recovery program beginning in January for PB Mining customers. on: January 19, 2015, 12:44:28 PM
The lower the coin price, the more people showing a paper loss.
If they got into bitcoin to make a quick buck or aren't content/can't afford to hodl through, then some will become desperate to mitigate their losses.
Desperate people throw caution and good practice (like due dilligence) to the wind, becoming easy prey for scammers=more potential victims in a bear market.

In a situation where mining is marginally profitable because of the price, it beats me why people think it's a good sector in which to invest.

Also, of course, there's the pov that BTC itself is the investment, like e.g. gold. If it's a crap investment because the price is going down that's one thing, trying to recover your losses by giving it to some guy who promises you the earth is another.

 Huh
3037  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Recovery program beginning in January for PB Mining customers. on: January 19, 2015, 11:52:13 AM
If this piece of crap gets away scot free then that´s a very encouraging message to other scamsters.

Another encouragement for scammers is that the scammed don't seem to learn.
There's an Einstein quote along the lines of "Insanity is repeating the same behaviour and expecting different results".
It applies in Bitcoinland as well as irl.
Look at the number of victims of PB who have gone straight out and "invested" in other totally unverfiable, too-good-to-be-true scams waiting to happen.
Even worse, they are so far in denial that they actually defend these rip offs, identify in some way with them and attack people who are skeptical.

And so more nails will be added to bitcoin´s coffin I suppose.

Yeah, scammers may be the hammer, but the serially scammed are the nails.

3039  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Proof that MineThatCloud is a Ponzi on: January 19, 2015, 09:46:32 AM
I was unaware that ponzi schemes were legal in Belgium. Oh, wait they aren't.

Of course they aren't.
Selling by misrepresentation of the product is a crime in most jurisdictions.
Any legit business that was accused of doing this, like MtC is here, would bend over backwards to provide simple proof and shut critics up.
MtC are responding in a typical scammers way: hostility, ad hominems, strawmen and obfuscation.
Their few supporters are just as bad, either socks or naive marks with a sinking feeling in their gut and a dose of Stockholm Syndrome.
3040  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Proof that MineThatCloud is a Ponzi on: January 18, 2015, 02:06:49 PM

I cannot believe how shallow and narrow minded as well as damn right idiotic some of the accusastions and reasonings have been Tongue
I hope to see you on here more Don't let a couple of people with about 1 brain cell between them drive you of...

peace to all

Please explain which reasonings have been shallow...
The costings?
The payment/receipt trail?

None of the people asking questions have money in this scheme because it fulfills zero criteria for a trustworthy investment.
What are your reasons for trusting and supporting unverifiable claims made by anonymous people, to the extent you send them money?

There are indeed, a couple of people on this thread with about 1 brain cell between them......"investors" is the term.

Don't call people names and sign off "peace to all", makes you look an even bigger dick than already.
