Isn't there a simple version?
~
Of course, there is a risk if they expose the private keys before my death.
You said it Wink That's the risk you should avoid.

I never had or used any will. So I don't know if they are secure or not.
Here, you'd have to use a notary. They're supposed to be trusted, but they're also human. And it would be impossible to prove if they used your private key, so I wouldn't risk it.
3022  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Whirlwind.money | ⚡No Fee⚡ | Ultimate Privacy | Anonymity Mining 12% APR🔥 on: August 23, 2023, 06:20:32 AM
Did you try asking for a refund from the whirlwind collateral per this message?
Stormbounty was told to ask for the escrow's ruling months ago.

Not sure what LoG of withdraw means but since you don't have a note, maybe if you can prove by block explorer that you sent money to a whirlwind address, then you might be eligible for a repayment.
He couldn't prove it.
3023  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [WARNING] Whirlwind.money - withdrawals are not being processed ⚠️ on: August 22, 2023, 02:51:20 PM
Instead, I'm talking about a valid suspicion (to the best of my knowledge) that someone might scam, even before the actual act of scam occurs.
I suspect that anyone can scam at some point, just like anyone can commit a murder. But we shouldn't tag everyone, just like we don't jail everyone "to prevent crimes".
We can warn people, but that's where it stops. Negative feedback loses it's "power" if everyone has it.
3024  Other / Meta / Re: Hidden pages/ features on the forum on: August 22, 2023, 11:56:52 AM
ive seen the security bounty page before but i thought it was denominated in grams of Au instead of USD?
That was changed years ago.

most admins
Theymos isn't "most admins" Wink
3026  Other / Meta / Re: Growing SEO spam on Bitcointalk on: August 22, 2023, 09:42:04 AM
or at least preventing them from having the power to include links.
This applies:
The things on the forum which encourage spam are allowed mainly because it's part of the forum's mission to be as free as possible.
~
Limiting newbie participation is very harmful for a community. ~ When barriers to participation are too high, then the best people often just won't go to the trouble of joining, and the people who are willing to jump through the hoops are often people who aren't good for the community: people with nothing better to do, scammers, get-rick-quickers, etc.
If spammers can't post links, they'll just spam a bit more until they have enough Activity to edit their old posts and add spam links. But a new user with a technical problem who can't post a link will just give up.
3027  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Consolidating UTXOs and maintaining privacy on: August 22, 2023, 08:52:35 AM
I get that, but I can't really find an "optimal" UTXO size... Some say the larger the better. Some say something around 100k sats is the best... Anyway
For what it's worth: at one point in 2017, 100k sats wasn't enough to pay for the transaction fee. It really depends on circumstances. As an example: this transaction with 33 inputs of 100k sats each resulted in only 800k sats being sent, the rest went to miners.
3028  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [WARNING] Whirlwind.money - withdrawals are not being processed ⚠️ on: August 22, 2023, 08:01:51 AM
I also don't think it would achieve much if people would agree to act more preventively with the trust system
That would be very bad. See eddie13's post, he wrote it much better than I can.
3029  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Consolidating UTXOs and maintaining privacy on: August 22, 2023, 07:36:49 AM
The only thing I can think of is burrying the cash on a certain location for the seller to pick up, and hope there are no wildlife cameras in place.
Kind of inconvenient. Don't you think?  Tongue
A bit Tongue But how cool would it be to say: "Your money is burried at +34° 59′ 20.00″, -106° 36′ 52″"? Cheesy

If I have any kind of suspicion that my UTXO may be mixed and not strictly Non-KYC, it will go straight to my KYC coins wallet. Sounds good?
Side tip: use address labels! And create regular backups, because if you'd have to restore from seed, you'd lose all your labels.
3030  Economy / Services / Re: [FREE TRIAL] LoyceV's convenient (paid) service for signature campaign managers on: August 22, 2023, 07:02:44 AM
Let me try the free trail. What do I need to do ?
Feel free to PM.
I'm planning an "overhaul" today to make it easier to create a new campaign. I'll PM you when I'm done.
Update: Overhaul completed Smiley It's now easier to add new campaigns, and easier to make changes.
3031  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Whirlwind.money | ⚡No Fee⚡ | Ultimate Privacy | Anonymity Mining 12% APR🔥 on: August 22, 2023, 05:19:03 AM
Someone is still using whirlwind website and making deposits!
Two deposits made yesterday, but there is no change in their BTC address, still showing 12.85436836 BTC, last transactions made 3 weeks ago.
I don't know what would be the best way to warn people not to send them coins anymore...
You can't warn everyone.

So it could be someone who isn't aware of the latest events, or the owner himself giving the illusion that his mixer still works.
I was thinking the same: pretend the site is still actively being used, so potential users don't find it suspicious.

I think the probability of "something bad has happened to the person who runs WW rather than this being a scam" has now increased, I mean if this was a straight-out scam, why wouldn't they fix the clear net, and made a small transfer from the multisig address to make things look 'normal' so they can scam more people?
That doesn't fit the message sent to HHampuz after a long time of inactivity:
I got an email back from whirlwind just now and it was as I suspected - something happened.

Basically, main people lost access due to travels while people still with access didn't have the right credentials to solve basic issues that caused withdraws to get stuck on the back-end. I've been assured that nothing has been lost and that all will be taken care of tomorrow meaning all currently pending withdraws will be processed and things return back to normal. It was an unfortunate situation is all!

I've asked my contact at whirlwind to reply in this thread whenever they can with further details, so from now until then/tomorrow night there is no need to panic even if I wouldn't recommend you to deposit until the backlog is cleared. Campaign participants will also be paid out as per usual tomorrow, regardless of if you've removed your signature or not.
3032  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Consolidating UTXOs and maintaining privacy on: August 22, 2023, 05:10:44 AM
Sure, but you must pay with a method which is not linked to your personal data in any way. The easiest way to do this is probably going to be via cash. You ca do this in person or via mail, or depending on your jurisdiction, you might be able to do an anonymous deposit in to the seller's bank account. Also depending on your jurisdiction you might have access to money orders or similar you can buy in cash without handing over personal details and giving/sending to the seller.
With all those options, the seller can't be anonymous. I wouldn't mind selling Bitcoin for euros in cash, but I wouldn't want to show my face doing it in person. Sharing my bank account or postal address also means I'm not anonymous.
The only thing I can think of is burrying the cash on a certain location for the seller to pick up, and hope there are no wildlife cameras in place. It's not very practical though, so you're back to:
little to zero liquidity

Lol. Me too Tongue

I'm not up on shitcoinery either, but man, makes me think I should put $100 in each of the alts Vispillio chooses next year.  Cheesy
That's called survivor bias Tongue
3035  Economy / Collectibles / Re: 10 BTC Casascius up for auction on Stacks Bowers on: August 21, 2023, 03:32:15 PM
Disappointing to see the 10 BTC go for the loaded value. Probably not the best timing given the sentiment around BTC and the broader financial markets.
A long held, but controversial, opinion of mine is that we will see the high load value coins (like the Cas 25 or even 10) trade at less than face value at some point.  There are risks such as a private key being illegible over time, the hologram has been tampered with, etc which will be priced in as the USD value of the coins increase.
From the buyer's perspective, I get it. But from the seller's perspective, it doesn't make sense to sell under face value, unless he knows it's been tampered with. And in that case, it makes no sense at all for the buyer to buy it. Long term, I wouldn't be surprised if loaded collectibles can't be sold anymore. There's no reason for the buyer to trust it if the seller accepts less than the loaded value, and there's no reason for a honest owner to accept less than the loaded value.
3036  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: [Contest][ALT] Best portfolio 2023 on: August 21, 2023, 01:33:59 PM
How's Vispilio still at 2x the value of place #2 though? I've got limited knowledge about shitcoins so what do you guys think, can his portfolio hold up until the end of the year?
Last I checked, those high-risk high-profit coins don't survive for too long..
Some survive, but the majority keeps dropping. And even if the "altcoin market share" grows, that's because new altcoins take a part of the pie too. It may be interesting to see the average portfolio value for each day, and compare that to Bitcoin. My guess it the average keeps dropping further compared to Bitcoin.

LoyceV, is it possible not to disable data support for these portfolios after January 1, 2024?
I can keep it running. That's what I did for last year's edition, but something broke scraping Coingecko, and I haven't fixed it for last year yet.
3037  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Consolidating UTXOs and maintaining privacy on: August 21, 2023, 01:30:07 PM
I am kind of sceptical when it comes to KYC UTXOs because I want the government to know nothing about my coins.
I don't expect governments to care about 0.005BTC, and I fully trust they're not capable of tracing it.

Quote
In their mind, Bitcoin is used for illegal activities. In reality, I just exchange a small amount of Euro to buy something more valuable. But apparently it is not something they want, at least in southern Europe where I live.
Here, as long as I'm not doing anything illegal, "liking it" isn't defined in the law. So I have to report my taxes, and that's it. I'm surprised they haven't asked for a list of owned addresses yet, that's probably only because they can't handle it, not because they don't want it. But once they do, I'll create billions of addresses for them Cheesy
3038  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Consolidating UTXOs and maintaining privacy on: August 21, 2023, 10:47:10 AM
Just out of curiousity, what do you mean? Are the amounts too small to worry about it being KYCed?
I mean I wouldn't worry about it Wink It's not enough to fear a $5 wrench attack when you buy a coffee, and I doubt your exchange is going to hunt you down for it either.
3039  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Consolidating UTXOs and maintaining privacy on: August 21, 2023, 09:32:44 AM
... but I think it is not in our best interest having too large UTXos either.
why do you say so?
If you make a small payment from a rich address, the seller might know too much about you.

Quote
I also need to clarify that when I say large UTXO, I mean less than 500k sats
In that case, I wouldn't worry about it.

Quote
For each UTXO:

+ 2 rounds with 10 collabs with max collab fee: 2000 per coinjoin = 40,000 sats.
+ mining fees
That's about 10% of the total amount! In this case I'd stop worrying about the "KYC exchange" knowing something about you, and just send everything to one address with the lowest possible fee.
3040  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Consolidating UTXOs and maintaining privacy on: August 21, 2023, 07:20:00 AM
You mean consolidating them. Not just use address E twice. Correct?
Yes. Just use both inputs for the transaction.

Quote
But I want my UTXOs to be larger. Do you mean that coinjoin and consolidation mustn't be combined, or that it is not worth it in terms of fees?
I don't know the fees your planning to pay. Can you share (approximate) numbers?

What about privacy?
B and C both came from RoboSats, so someone knows the link already. A and BC won't get linked on-chain if you send them to D and E respectively.

Quote
If you send all the funds you have in each of these addresses, first from A to D and then from B and C to E, if in the future you use D and E for a transaction it will be clear that you, the owner of A that has passed KYC in the exchange, also own the other addresses.
So don't do that in the future Wink
