I just looked at coinbase and bitcoin was trading over there at $325 and doesn't show any signs of slowing down currently.

No signs?

It's getting ready to crash! Grab your dog and your ammo and head for the hills!! Smiley

3024  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why should I buy bitcoin? on: November 08, 2013, 12:12:53 PM
Hey guys,
Can someone convince me why I should buy some bitcoin? I am considering buying 40 bucks worth. Why should I invest? Where should I invest? Any tips are appreciated, seeing as I am very new to bitcoin.
Thanks!

It depends on your objectives. Personally I like to invest in innovative coins that are undervalued.

The fact is Bitcoin's developer abandoned the project years ago and disappeared into thin air. Yet there are equally-talented software engineers picking up the code where Satoshi left off, for example adding the 51% attack defense missing from the original code.

I think there are a few altcoins that have huge upside potential. I'd suggest placing your bets in that sector.
3025  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Reaches New Heights on: November 08, 2013, 12:02:04 PM
One thing is for sure, this is totally amazing! Bitcoin has forever changed the way we think about currencies, and how we spend it.

Based on the development I see coming out of the altcoin sector "you ain't seen nothing yet!"
3026  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should we support altcoins ? on: November 08, 2013, 11:58:25 AM

From a "lets make the world a better place perspective" should we support only bitcoin right now or altcoins also?

Well it depends on your objectives and motivation.

Bitcoin's developer abandoned the project and disappeared into thin air. Still there are many innovative young software engineers that have picked-up where Satoshi left off and are improving his original code by adding features such as a 51% attack defense.

I don't know about making the world a better place, but these guys are giving the World a better bitcoin.

3027  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Majority is not Enough: Bitcoin Mining is Vulnerable on: November 08, 2013, 03:37:21 AM
So you admit not knowing who the Bitcoin developers and the forum admin are and state that Bitcoin is "abandoned" a few posts apart?

What I said was, "Bitcoin's developer abandoned the project years ago and disappeared into thin air". I think this is a well-established fact.

We have just received official confirmation that Goldcoin will resume trading on Cryptsy later tonight.  Smiley

When will I get approved to use your forum?

All new registrations go through an admin approval process and then an email verification check. There are currently 30 users in the approved queue waiting on email verification. If you can provide your username I will see if you are in the queue.

Even though it's a little taboo to mention, the truth is: Bitcoin's developer abandoned the project years ago and disappeared into thin air. If he was still around he would be actively evolving the coin and addressing issues like this one in a clever manner. Bitcoin without Satoshi is like Apple without Jobs.

To my understanding, the only coin actively developing a 51% defense is Goldcoin whose developer is actively building upon Satoshi's unfinished work.

FYI: He didn't have 1/2 of the actual hashrate of the network, he had 1/2 of the "client reported" hashrate which was significantly lower (at that time).

This made me think. Bitcoin without Satoshi is like Apple without Jobs.

ProcessBlock() : Possible Multipeer 51 percent detected, initiating anti-legit-peerban defense! halting until valid block! This is normal..

I think this is normal, but I will relay your debug information to the developers for review.

I wish that cyptsy would put goldcoin back on. I had my wallet there and now I dont have access to it. Lets hope the funds are still there

We anticipate giving Cryptsy the okay to resume trading within the next few days. Thank you for your patience.

apparently cryptsy and Vicurex don't like goldcoin, either. It has been removed for days, now, from cryptsy.
dern and I actually thought it had a chance to do something.

 Cry

It's never been listed on Vircurex and we asked Cryptsy to pause trading until our network is stable.

This is a peer-to-peer based network. We can't control which IP addresses people use to run their clients.

Gave this a try and my first block find was rejected. I don't think your patch worked.

The patch does not take effect until block 103000. After that block, please allow a few hours for difficulty to normali

Well into the 103066+ range and still the majority come back rejected with your 51% block. Can you help explain more?

Although the difficulty algorithm fix took effect at block 103000 it will take several hours for it to normalize as it adjusts by no more than (something like) 141% every 2 hours. The developers will continue monitoring the situation closely.

The guy said nothing happened after the change, all I did was make light hearted humor of the situation. I am sorry.

Thank you for passing the message on MicroGuy.

NP. I knew you were joking but I was concerned someone else may not. Thank you for understanding.  Smiley

ok, message deleted  Huh ... Has anyone else been getting a malicious URL warning from the Goldcoin client on their Anti virus Software?
I have had 11 in the past hour while waiting for 103000 to tick over,  from 195.148.124.79 .
This IP is not in my .conf , anyone else?

will this be deleted? gees

We're trying to keep the misinformation to zero. Your post said the fork was at 130000.

This is a peer-to-peer based currency. We can't control which IP addresses people use to run their clients. But I'll pass your report along to the development team nonetheless.
3040  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: GoldCoin™ (GLD) Thread - The Gold Standard of Digital Currency [OFFICIAL THREAD] on: November 05, 2013, 05:41:59 AM
LoL MicroGuy did you just send me 45 GLD???

That's the least I could do!

I am running version v0.7.1.4-gcf3abdf39d-beta and the Height matches the BlockChain

It sounds like you're good then....things should get better tomorrow after the hard fork.
