3041  Other / Meta / Re: How to find other accounts of one account in bitcointalk on: January 03, 2016, 12:47:22 AM
well most probably you can track down the accounts if you know their ip addresses though it would be a very hard thing to do if you are not the owner of the website

IP addresses would be irrelevant if an individual was using a VPN and Tor. You do understand you can just generate a different IP address everytime if you really desired. You need to use your conscience and understand who to trust.

I have seen in meta staff (not sure what level of staff) can use a tool I'm guessing combines things such as IP to see likely tied accounts.  So it's not exact but a good tool for staff.

Us normal people are stuck of using mistakes such as using same BTC address.  Or post's of the multiple accounts relating to something.  Some are so bad they have a conversation with their own accounts trying to boost posts.  A lot are caught due to sig campaign spam I think which is sad as it can be used for good if not abused.
3042  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do I know what info to trust? on: January 03, 2016, 12:41:38 AM
you should trust the information from members with positive trust

Don't just go by this alone someone can buy an account with this.   Also it is not always accurate.  I would do more research to make sure the person is not gaining something off the info.

For if you see referral links or short links, then give it a second glance as there could be a motive for the person in making money.  So I guess try to get a "fair" opinion that is not going to make money off you.
3043  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN AntRouter R1: 1st wireless networking device with bitcoin mining chip on: January 03, 2016, 12:26:57 AM
I've sold out of R1's, and as promised, I am releasing my customized firmware to the community. Please note that although I refer to this package as custom firmware, it is really just a patch file. If you reset your R1 to factory defaults, you will lose the customizations. In which case, you would just need to re-apply the patch.

Changelog for release 0.95:
- Opened up port 4029 for API access to cgminer-u3 instance
- Max frequency for U3 increased to 250M
- Max fequency for R1 increased to 250M (I have not personally tested freq past 125. Use at your own risk!)

Firmware Enhancements
- U3 zombie handling(Scripted auto-cgminer restarts and R1 reboot if necessary)
- Supports modifying R1 pools from UI, without losing the ability to use Bitmain's solo pool for R1.
- Detailed R1 stats page, including pool statistics
- Supports modifying R1 freq and voltage from UI
- U3 freq selection increased to 250M
- Cgminer-U3 API open for monitoring with 3rd party tools

WARNING: These customizations provide the ability to push your R1 beyond its intended limits. Because of this, it will likely void your warranty with Bitmain. Additionally, I provide this patch with no official support, and take no responsibility for any damage done to your R1 device or its surroundings. Use at your own risk! By downloading and applying this patch, the user is accepting these conditions.

Download Below
R1CGCustomFW_0.95_2015-12-28.tar.gz

Upgrade instructions
To upgrade your firmware, go to "Backup / Flash Firmware" under the "System" tab
- Click on the "Chose File" button to the right of "Restore Backup:" (NOTE: Do not mistake this with the "Chose File" button under Flash new firmware. - This is not a full binary firmware file)
- Choose "R1CGCustomFW_0.95_2015-12-28.tar.gz" from your PC and then click on the "Upload archive" button.

Your antrouter system will reboot and come back up with updated firmware!

Update to 0.95 complete, thank you!  Too bad my U3 died, as much as I've hated them I may have to find another just to keep using the R1 as a U3 controller...

If you do your life is very easy with Crazy Guy's firmware.  I bought it from him so have had it for month's.  And it's been month's since I have touched it.

If there is a problem like zombie it reboots.  Even memory leak someone reported is not a issue as it seems to reboot before that ever effects me.   With 3 U3's there it is so much easier with automation vs how I was rebooting multiple times a day myself.
3044  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S7 Bitmain Power Supply Issue on: January 03, 2016, 12:23:43 AM
I had an electrician install a new power outlet in my basement and he modified a connector to fit into the the power supply. My Antminer S7 is up and running!

I had no idea that every outlet in my house was inadequate to power the device.

Thank you all for the help!

How much did he charge if you don't mind me asking?  I know when I looked into 240 an having it done by electrician I got an outrageous quote after they saw miners.

What all work did he do?  Add 240 breaker, electricity wire, outlet?  And thanks for sharing.

An associate friend of mine who got the miner paid for his service so I don't have a quote on me now, but he was able to hook up a 240 outlet right next to the breaker box within 20 minutes and left me the male end of the plug that would be used to modify a 14g cable. I'll see if I can find a quote for you later on.

Bad news is that I'm not able to use my Amp reader anymore. Sad

That is great then.  I had to resort to doing it with someone who knew a tad more then me as I had done 110, but never 240.  Phil helped a lot to I owe him for help really got me where I had right things ordered.

But after my electrician saw the miners he gave me a quote of over 1 thousand for a small line (5-10 foot) outside of wall including electrical wire, breaker, and outlet + box.    In the end it was probley less then 50-75 dollars or so instead of the 1 thousand quote.... I wont be calling that company again.  I also went a lot bigger for a mining area worked out really good for summer and controlling heat.
3045  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Hands On] Bitmain AntMiner S7 - Batch 8 - Notlist3d on: January 03, 2016, 12:19:31 AM
Did someone made some OC on the batch 8?

Ive tried to go as high as 712MHz successfully with errors rate of ~0.015% and temps of 55-65.  Didn't go any further because i dont have a kill-a-watt and am only using a single 1350W (enermax gold) PSU.

I suspect bitmain instilled the higher voltage in order to maximize hashrate/chip for short-term ROI. I suspect a B8 unit could exceed 800MHz/1420wDC/~1500wAC

a higher voltage means less amps drawn for the same wattage. so whatever overclocks a lower-voltage chip can achieve should be possible to exceed with a higher voltage in the B8

I don't think anyone has pushed it hard.  At 700 MHz on default it just is set pretty high already compared to other batches.

I don't see people pushing them past that to much.    Risk/reward just is not there especially with losing warranty if caught doing it.
3046  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 21 cents per kw, Any way to mine? on: January 03, 2016, 12:15:58 AM
Same situation as where I am high energy cost. I would just stick to buying Bitcoin and waiting for the price to go up sell and repeat than to buy any mining equipment at them costs.

Yeah if you live in a western country and/or a country where you pay over 15 cents per KW, you probably better out buying bitcoins or getting into cloud mining.
Hardware mining is too expensive.

Or look at hosting providers.  There are some out there you can host for 10 cent's or less.  Depends on which one you go to.

But I would not pay 15 or 20 cent's to mine in current situation.  Difficulty is just moving up fast where electricity price will matter even more I think.
3047  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Best bitcoin mining rig for $1000? on: January 03, 2016, 12:11:33 AM
The best BTC mining rig for $1000 is the one that you don't buy.

Lol ☺

believe or not, this is what I learned here and it take me couple of years. You know it now. enjoy:)

I would agree it's getting harder and harder.   But I would not say year's.   I have done pretty well with decent electricity and selling gear.

This generation has a big jump in difficulty multiple times.  So will be interesting value of BTC in a few months.   I really hope we get a few good bumps in value.
3048  Economy / Services / Re: [BIT-X.com] Earn Bitcoins by Posting | Signature Campaign on: January 02, 2016, 11:15:31 PM
I will post here the percentage of the process to keep you updated of everything,
the process to update the list of users is 35% now.
(for those who ask how much it will totally take I can say 1-2 hours to payments starting.)

Bitcoin Boy.

What new signatures are we talking about here ? mind telling me if mine is updated or not please ? thanks
I believe he is talking about the signatures other than the ones currently being used(yours), I've seen many a users having "old-school" Bit-x signatures
Hi bros, yeah I mean just put the new signature and don't worry i will let you check it after making payments I'm currently working to
make them as fast as I can. I will give you the new site soon please wait until payments problems are done.

Regards,
Bitcoin Boy.

How is it going on is it still looking like today on payment stats?   Thanks for your time getting it back up.
3049  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best bitcoin wallet? on: January 02, 2016, 07:01:54 PM
i use blockchain.info but sometimes this service can be under DDOS attack and go down. these times i can not check my wallet and can not make transactions. may i use blockchain.info wallet on my bitcoin core at the same time? blockchain.info gives a mobility access too
You can use mycellium wallet for mobile
Back up your private key then restore it in mycellium
Link : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mycelium.wallet&referrer=utm_source%3Dgoogle%26utm_medium%3Dorganic%26utm_term%3Dmycelium&pcampaignid=APPU_1_s-2HVsbgG8ekuQT9vL2oDg

It depends on how much your storing.  If using it properly and storing a little then a hot wallet is fine.   But don't store a ton of coins in a hot wallet on a phone.

If you do need more then that little amount I have been playing with trezor on mobile device past few day's - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1298917.msg13321397#msg13321397 .  It lets you carry a very secure way and send from mycellium wallet if needed.  So for mobile users with a decent holdings they need to use this might be worth a look.
3050  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wallets and Cold Storage. on: January 02, 2016, 06:58:23 PM
How safe is it to store bitcoins on a place like coinbase? I know mt gox went down is it likely something like that could happen to other exchanges?

Coinbase is very safe, they even have insurance that should protect investment if big site hack (it does not protect individual account's though if lost do to you).  So it has that with Mt Gox never had.

Only problem with it is you have 0 control outside of coinbase.  You won't get a paper wallet or private key you can enter into a different wallet and use your holdings.  Your stuck there if there is any problems.
3051  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Hands On] Bitmain AntMiner S7 - Batch 8 - Notlist3d on: January 02, 2016, 06:52:19 PM
I will try to do my own investigation tomorrow, but C1 series had similar DC-DC and I think also with PIC. C1s DC-DC was very unreliable, some of them failed to set-up correct voltage and overvolted chips and shut down whole board. It is very strange as C1 DC-DC set-up voltage at 0.75V, but some voltage comands (after cgminer starts) result in wrong voltage setting. This happened over the time and some of blades can't set up even default 0.76V. Bitmain supplied "hot patch" by unsoldering buffer chip, so voltage stays at start-up level.

It is because of this sort of problem that I suspect that Bitmain have gone for a factory set fixed voltage. it is however possible that they have chosen a different set voltage for Batch 6 v Batch 8/9?

One thing that keeps alive the possibility of a dynamic voltage setting is that if they had just wanted a factory set Core Voltage they could just have used an EE based digital pot with no PIC?

However anything is possible right up to a programmed selection of voltage dependant on the frequency selected? Some tests and measurements will be good.  Smiley

Rich

Bitmain's official response would support your idea of factory set fixed voltage:

Got the official response back on efficiency:  "Currently, S7 is fixed with frequency to make sure the hash rate is more stable. but the voltage can be adjusted. The power consumption is 0.25 J/GH + 10% as marked in website."

So it appears the 4.7 is constant.  And that efficiency is the +10 marked in specs.

It's been a bit since they sent that to me.  But it did mention fixed frequency.

3053  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 B7 - fimware upgrade and loud sound issue on: January 02, 2016, 06:47:17 PM

I`ve been searching and reading a lot, but cant find anything related to Batch 7, most of posts are for batch 8.
I have S7 B7 with September`s firmware. On Bitmain website available is December`s version-does anyone have any issues with the newest firmware? Does the newest firmware make any difference?

Another issue is loudness.
Did anyone change fans-any opinions.
Right now my fans are working on 60% -3960 and 3720 with average temp 62C but even they are in different part of house, behind locked door , still can hear them really loud.
should i lower fan speed percentage to make them quieter?
Does it make sens to put big pedestal fan -40cm to get extra cooling?

thanks for any info

drop fans to 55 %  and look into this material  if gear goes over 65c go back up to 60%

the whole miner fits into this
http://www.lowes.com/pd_481274-85334-MEA-1225-6_1z0uauh__?productId=50401806&pl=1

on this you attach a piece on intake and out flow fans
http://www.lowes.com/pd_481266-85334-DEI-0625-6_0__?productId=50401792&Ntt=

cut a 2 foot piece for the intake and use the long piece to direct heat to where you want.

Phil gave you some good idea's.  As far as noise if you don't do a mod like that the S7 is noisy it is not for people who need it quiet, unless you plan on doing some sound proofing.   I would not switch fan's though anymore even that voids warranty.   Phil's idea to turn down and watch close is better.

My biggest advice is don't upgrade unless you see a big flaw needing fixed or feature you need.  It just is not worth putting the miner through chance of bricking for little updates in my opinion.

Don't know if Bitmain  is up to something but Antpool just hit 7 blocks on the trot?

Quote

391395   14:11:13      AntPool

Average time between Blocks 5 1/2 Mins...

Rich

The network has shown us in the last two months that  the big players can crank it up quite a bit.

391414 (Main Chain)   2016-01-02 17:11:01
391317 (Main Chain)   2016-01-02 00:00:19

but for today   we are 17 hours and 25 minutes in that is 104 blocks

and we have made 98 so far.

real short peeks at blocks 2 hours  or less are pretty worth less variance will rule in a short burst.

3 day peeks have meaning.

BTW  I am pretty sure that bitfury points some of its 200ph + hash at f2pool and antpool in an effort to hide that is is making close to 50 blocks a day with that 40 megawatt farm.

It would make sense for them to split it, I think you might be right.  It could make it seem more decentralized by doing it instead of doing all under their own name.   Both of those allow PPS so they might be going that route.

Antpool I think had an attack yesterday from what I read it stopped site but not mining.  Not 100 percent sure on it.  But if anyone does not read the pool forum can be interesting on a few of the threads even if you just lurk there like me.
3055  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: When will you be selling your mining gear? on: January 02, 2016, 06:32:52 PM
half of the time required you to roi is the correct time frame, because it mean that you can reach roi, with simply reselling it plus have some profit on top of that

i'm sure you cna still sell 1 s7 for about the same price you bought it today, those who bought it 2-3+ months ago, are a bit screwed, but they are also near their roi

The ones with month's ago bought the model with more chips and efficiency, so they will be able to sell for more.  But you are right it is not to the extent of price dropping I dont think.  And the ones that bought at 230's really kinda are stuck and ROI will be hard if going by BTC and not USD.

But selling is good no matter if it's a few months after or 6 month's.  Either way you get extra cash you would not if you sit it on a shelf to collect dust.  I suggest everyone sell vs setting on shelf as a collectors item or memento.
3056  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: s7 new farm on: January 02, 2016, 06:28:25 PM
I m not sure home mining s a way to go anymore. I do not want to spoil your plans but with 20-30% montly diff growth, I simply do not see how that can work anymore.

His farm is in Venezuela... so he has cheaper then average electricity.   So I doubt it is going to hurt him.

On other miners with home/hobby with regular electricity pricing it needs a bump in value.  I think there will always be some hobby and home miners no matter what.
3057  Economy / Gambling / Re: My bets are pending after the match won. Please help on: January 02, 2016, 07:34:36 AM
You really need to contact that site.  I am not a gambler so not to familiar with them.  But this is not really technical support for them here.  So email that site and ask what is going on.  If they are not answering ... there is not much the forum can do to retrieve the BTC.

If you don't get paid and should have then look into posting in scam section.   That would be next step if you were scammed.
3058  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin wallet on: January 02, 2016, 07:31:05 AM
No, that's a terrible idea.   Starting newbies off with a web wallet is simply teaching bad practice.   Get bitcoin core, electrum, or armory.   Blockchain.info is great for somethings, but is generally considered an awful idea for storing funds there.   Download bitcoin core, electrum or armory.   Or buy a trezor.   Those are the safest ways to go assuming your pc is secure.

I just finished part 2 of my TREZOR hands on dealing with android mobile usage - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1298917.msg13321397#msg13321397 .

Hardware wallets really do some nice things for security.  I think eventually most will use them for holding coins.  I do think paper will always exist for those cold storage you never touch, and hot wallet for little daily spending.   But I think its somewhere in between those two where hardware wallets really shine.
3059  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to collect BTC ?? on: January 02, 2016, 07:27:54 AM
Startlingly from the faucet is a good start

Faucet is definitely a good option for the beginners if they have enough time because earning Bitcoin from faucet take a lot of time with very little profit. But still something is better than nothing

yes faucet still very worth for the newbie, because it is very easy to do. as I was when I was a newbie and get the BTC from the faucet Smiley

I disagree that faucets are very worth it to a newbie, especially a newbie that focuses on winning.  They will spend hours and hours trying to make a killing then realize that they only made a few dollars at the most.  Faucets are a great learning step, but they are not the way to make BTC.

But I would rather new people knew this and not waste their time.  I think they are better off buying a few dollars to play with if that is what they want vs hours and hours of faucets.  Faucets just pay to little.

I think with those hours there are much better things they can do with the time.  Possibly even learn something like a skill that is far better in long run.
3060  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Efficiency of dedicated miner vs PC on: January 02, 2016, 07:25:16 AM
I'm mining Ethernum and i use two AMD R9 270, in one month I get 57 US dollars

How much did you spend on electricity though?   Running two GPU's 24x7 seems like it would have a little bit of a bill to it.

I would love to be wrong.  I just have not seen a GPU rig that can ROI in quite a while.   Asics is what everything has pretty much moved to.

1 270 consume around 200w, if not overclocked, and not undervolted or something, so 5kw a day, which is nothing

even considering 0.2 cent per kw, he will end up with a mere $30 per month, still he made profit

Even with profit though I don't think he would ROI on a GPU been a long time since I have seen anyone post about doing that.   And that electricity number is pretty darn low.

It seems I had to quit GPU mining ages ago.  It's been a long time.
