3041  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: ASIC misfortune: Anker Uspeed USB-hub broke down. on: August 08, 2013, 07:11:21 PM
I had one power supply go down out of 11 Anker 10-port hubs.  I've seen people report that it's very easy to get a replacement hub from Anker (good warranty).

I'm suspecting the power brick might have overheated, as it was lying on a wooden shelf and out of the way from the fans. Amazon will reimburse me and I get a new one today, so it'll be fine. Next setup I'll just place the brick next to the hub itself so it gets a little cooling too.

Saw this and decided to lay a big fan on top of the hub power supplies and blowing air down onto them in my cabinet. Thanks for the tip.

Wow, that's bad, is that really real?!

That's pretty brazen if it's in-fact a real advertisement. It's outright false advertising if so.

EDIT: Confirmed on reddit to be a scam and unrelated to BFL entirely.

@Xian01 my guess is those powerbricks wont last 2 months like that...

Why do you say that ? Decent air-flow and temperature in that room, and the bricks are not hot to the touch at all.

Hmm the erupters are going zombie and being hotplugged? That's undesirable behaviour.

USB 2.0 system hosting 58 sticks has been running fine all night with no visible zombies.

USB 3.0 system hosting 9 sticks has exhibited 3 zombies so far since I began testing. 1 zombie did not respond to a hotplug requiring a restart of CGMiner, and 2 zombies came back up when replugged on separate occasions.

EDIT 2: Several hours later, returned to my studio to see that 3 of the AMU's went zombie and did not respond to hotplug operations on a USB 3.0 system. Had to restart CGMiner entirely. USB 2.0 system has been solid since I switched yesterday.

EDIT 3: Just watched another Erupter USB go zombie on my USB 3.0 system. Reverted back to 3.1.1 with the SiLabs driver on that system.

Make this enclosed, and I'd be interested in one for an October order.

Giving credit where credit is due, this is really fucking funny.

The whole display thing was never meant for so many devices since it's from an era of GPU mining. I keep rewriting it over and over again yet windows just likes crashing if you get too fancy with pdcurses. I keep meaning to rewrite it to just delete all the windows and start new ones but too many other things to do all taking my attention...

I haven't written any significant code in over 10 years. I think it's time to dust off my bike and oil up the chains... Have been looking for something to rip me away from DOTA2...

Cheers.

imagine the sweet irony if PP decided to "fire" BFL as a customer LOL!!!!!

Normal for hotplugged ones to not show on windows also - a workaround for crashes on resizing windows thanks to buggy pdcurses on windows.

Could the display toggle coMpact mode be modified to reinit the displayed devices manually ? I noticed it did not Sad

-I'll give you $75 for each 7970.
-I encourage all to buy ASICs and continue to mine BTC in a self defeating downward spiral.  Less competition for me in DigitalCoin and Litecoin.

Insult me with a lowball price. Insult me with my choice of hobby. Come off as superior for mining DigitalCoin (WTF is DigitalCoin ?!) and LTC.

 No thanks, bro.

And while I'm at it, there are new windows .exes with the latest changes as well in case changing the dll alone isn't enough:
http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/temp

She's alive ! Happily hashing away with your latest under Windows on an Anker 10 port hub !

EDIT: Additionally, deployed this build to another rig hosting 58 sticks, and sometimes, a few sticks lag at startup and the display never gets updated.

Eg: CGMiner starts up, and displays AMU0 through AMU51. About 30 seconds after it starts up, I see hotplug messages saying devices up to AMU57 have been found, but the display is not updated to reflect the new devices.

Finally, I notice that bank often switches back and forth between difficulty 8 and 16. Is there a way I can tell CGMiner "Don't ever go higher than Difficulty 8" ?

EDIT2: On my first 10 port hub, I had AMU8 go ZOMBIE with the green light on solid, and would not respond to a hotplug operation. Had to quit and shutdown CGMiner to get it working again. Also, restarting that one 10 port hub only seems to recognize AMU0 through 5 before AMU6-8 get added to the list as hotplug devices later, and again, the list of devices does not get refreshed to display this Sad
3054  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Which USB hub to use with Block Erupters or K1? A List. on: August 07, 2013, 04:23:37 PM
I'm running hundreds of them, for weeks now, with cheapest hubs I could find on amazon, at sauna level ambient temps that make bfl devices cower in perpetual throttle down. Per port cost ~$3 per port, including the power source. 5 minutes or less of soldering per hub.

I take it you are using a custom power solution ? I'm going to hazard a guess you are not driving 9 Erupters on that hub with the stock power adapter ?

In case you're using a mainboard with AMD chipset (from 2008 or 2009, not sure atm)
In this case, it's not an AMD issue Sad It's an i7 2600K system I put together on an MSI motherboard. I can live with it; just wanted to report the issue.
Well have you downloaded and run the newest Intel INF Update Utility for your motherboard? Intel MBs still need chipset drivers too, ya know.

All up to date. Lose the snark.

Has anybody else had any problem with this hub? Is it not suitable to run 24/7 like this?

I'm running a bunch of these in my setup. Have not run across this problem mining 24/7 for a good while now. Sorry to hear about your trouble Sad
3058  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Cryoniks Query on: August 07, 2013, 01:36:05 PM
it comes with free skyfiber... we should be able to get back our goat ROI by 5th moon

In an alternate timeline, the Cryoniks units evolve into SkyNet, leading to the rise of the machines, and the resulting "Judgement Day".

FWIW, retired a 7970 and a 7950 in my farm today after taking delivery of another 15 AM Erupter USB's. Plan to have the other half-dozen 7970's retired by the end of the month and up for sale.

Am already seeing notable savings on our electrical vs this time last year since rolling out ASICs and retiring my 5xxx and 6xxx series GPU's a couple months ago.
3060  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Butterfly Labs Order Delay on: August 07, 2013, 03:32:29 AM
Hello,
We`ve ordered a miner from BFL on 20th May and we paid for express delivery. To this date, the status of the order is still Processing, which means it is not yet assembled and this is a period of more than 2 months.
Can anybody share an opinion on the topic ? How long does it take on average to go to status Assembled/Shipped ?

If history is any indication, I would hazard to guess you might receive your May 2013 order no later than end of Q1 2014. With any luck by Christmas 2013.
