Yesterday, as I was hanging out with one of my girls, I casually checked in on BTC Guild to make sure things were running smoothly at home when I realised something bad was going on. So this morning I not-so-casually raced home through the London morning commute, surprising my housemates at breakfast, and found that my Anker Uspeed 10-port USB 3 hub was on the fritz. It wasn't completely dead: there were short-lived flickers of light but, and I could run one USB erupter for a while but after a minute or so that too stopped working. Right now I have two erupters plugged in to the existing ports, instead of my usual nine. I have ordered a new USB-hub of the same make, so I should be up and running again tomorrow. Has anybody else had any problem with this hub? Is it not suitable to run 24/7 like this?

I'm running a bunch of these in my setup. Have not run across this problem mining 24/7 for a good while now. Sorry to hear about your trouble

Could be a power brick/power supply issue. Once you get the second one, try swapping the power brick on the first one and see if it's still on the fritz.

Yes I'll try that. I already got an OK from Amazon for full refund though but it might give us a clue.

i have one of the black ones where the 4 ports nearest the power switch stopped working. Erupters plugged in there get the LED on constant and cgminer doesn't see them. I just use the ports that work and plugged the fan in one that doesn't.

I've seen people report that it's very easy to get a replacement hub from Anker (good warranty). i have one of the black ones where the 4-5(don't remember exact number) ports nearest the power switch stopped working. Erupters plugged in there get the LED on constant and cgminer doesn't see them. I just use the ports that work and plugged the fan in one that doesn't. Sounds like one of the internal hubs broke down on your unit. 10-port hubs tend to be 2x4 port and 1x2 port hubs inside.

I've still got another 10 port for expansion.

I'm suspecting the power brick might have overheated, as it was lying on a wooden shelf and out of the way from the fans. Amazon will reimburse me and I get a new one today, so it'll be fine. Next setup I'll just place the brick next to the hub itself so it gets a little cooling too.

Saw this and decided to lay a big fan on top of the hub power supplies and blowing air down onto them in my cabinet. Thanks for the tip.

I positioned the bricks so that they are getting some of the wind from the fan, I think it should be enough. The hottest part of the summer is over too.

Rig is down again, since about 50 minutes ago I'm at work so I can't check it out, hopefully it was a short power outage and not a dual Anker hub faliure (which seems unlikely). Other theories: home internet is down, or there was a break-in and somebody stole all my stuff, or my housemates went into my room and turned off my rig. Edit: Up and running again! It was actually the SSD on my computer that messed up, for unknown reasons. "No bootable disk" etc. I took out the msata SSD and put in again, booted up with no problem and we're back on 4 GH/s, living the dream.

Right now it seems the msata SSD is the problem. I will give it a week and see if it behaves.

It's that damn msata SSD OK, so it's stopped working three times this week already. Last night I lost 6 hours, so I restarted it this morning and when I got into work I noticed it was off again, so that's at least 9 hours I lose today too. I'm going to connect the old ugly 2.5" HD and that should do the trick.
