didnt sync at all although it connected to peers. need to figure out why but havent had much free time recently

bitcoin seeder

seeder shouldnt stop the client from downloading blocks

Connecting to nodes on a lower Blockchain does stop it from downloading blocks as well as being able to stake before being fully synced.

Setup 5-6 more nodes, edit the list to only include the trusted nodes, set up seed nodes, reduce the Staking deviation time from 2 hours to 10 minutes, make the client not stake unless fully synced and possibly even remove the POW altogether since it's a security risk.

The main problem here is that the Staking is too far out so no one is Staking their Coins and Zack doesn't want to open up the wallet with large amount of coins because it will Stake at maximum weight all at once and cause a fork.

You could send coins to private nodes to Stake and run the network and tunnel in through SSH, each transaction represents a block of coins that will Stake once matured so Zack could use his transaction program to equalize the Staking and have those coins helping to run the network.

You also need coin control, it's pretty much essential to Proof of Stake so you can manage all your blocks of coins so that you don't have thousands of small transactions all trying to hash their stake, not succeeding and slowing down your system.
3062  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Squall Coin (work in progress) NO IPO, Made for you! on: August 31, 2014, 06:21:44 PM
You should tackle Proof of Stake if you want your coin to last, If you choose your x11 mining or really any other POW it will not matter whether or not you have a premine because the constant selling pressure will eventually drop the coin to nothing.

Make a POW/POS coin with a fast POW distribution and mine all the POW coins from it. Make the POS with higher fees and pools a portion of Stake to a central fund. Balance the Stake % per year along with fee generation and how it pools for funding so that all holders will always have the advantage. Give away/sell 99% of the Coins so you have a backup of 10-15 BTC for Development of Pools, Wesites, Nodes, Wallets and any coding emergencies. Use the pooling fund for general advancement of the Coin instead of trying to rely of donations, 10-15 BTC is fine for an IPO for it as long as you have an open ledger of your uses for it and a fund that pools over time is fine because if there is not much in the fund, even if you were selling it all off it wouldn't affect the market much and wouldn't amount to much profit unless sold consistently over time in which case if you were doing it for your own personal gain, everyone would be aware of it and sell their coins so it would really only amount to killing your own credibility you've worked so hard to create.

Just a few things to think about, hope it helps.

we need to setup an Anonymous Attack POOL
so guys can just point their hardware at it and then the pool op can have a voting list or something maybe to pick what coin to take down Smiley

i cannot take credit for this idea either it was posted by another guy 50 pages back and i STILL like the idea.
Who wants to start working on this project and has experience setting up pools ?

there has GOT to be some pool operator that can set us up a Pool right ?

hmm seems NONE of them want to lift a finger to stop scam coins.. what a shocker  Roll Eyes

see..

Your all full of shit hypocrites that will ride around here day in and day out on my coat-tails
wit this whole anti-shit coin schtick but in reality your all two faced and profit off them period.

other wise all your behavior would be different.
instead of trying to cause an off-topic attack on my credibility every few posts you guys would talk about what can be done..
your behavior here speaks LOUD AND CLEAR guys so you can NOT deny it period.

Speaks volumes that not one person wants to help you. Even after a year plus being here you have no useful skills and 0 connections

No one wants to be a part of something in which it's sole purpose is to destroy other peoples work so in a way I agree with you. Speotnik, you've been here a year so you should have the capability to build it yourself if that is what you want.

That is my point. His entire goal is to destroy cryptos in general while the rest of us work very hard to create

I wouldn't worry about it too much it's better to have a few wild ones around here. It's never been built because no one who is actively working to create new systems are not going to build and associate themselves with an attack pool designed to destroy other coins because it's counter-intuitive to your own project and kills credibility. If Speotty wants his attack pool, he's going to have to make it himself but there is only so much time in the day and if you are spending all your time posting, you are not learning how to code.

What projects are you working on by the way? or is this not a good place to discuss them?

Why not just make a POS coin and use it for your multipools? enough POS mining pools and it will kill off all POW coins..

just make a good coin that rewards it's holders for mining other coins, you wouldn't even need to actively point it at one particular coin.

Not a good idea, when you realize what really exists in terms of nukes and firepower it is a misguided effort to support war in any sense. What you do and what you support comes back to you so you would support the death of innocent people and ultimately the retribution of what comes as a result of supporting such an effort? You do know that it would be relatively easy for people to track you down, right?
3068  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MINT] Mac & Linux Mintcoin Desktop Wallet v1.11.0 Available for Download on: August 20, 2014, 12:26:04 AM
We currently have a project management system in place where I take ideas from the forums and and create a series of tasks for implementation. I have about 15 developers and community supporters in the system that can assign themselves to any task which they wish to take on. I pre-determine what roles are needed etc...

In this platform communication is had regarding the direction of the project, questions that come up and opinions on what next.

Now that the wallet has been updated it will be easier to handle coin control and properly manage a campaign.

The idea (as soon as I finish updating the website) is to assign a mintcoin address generated from a wallet owned by the mintcoin community (which I currently hold but will be passed down to the next person when needed) which has unique addresses for each initiative to held as a "bounty" so to speak for that particular initiative.

So in essence investors can "vote" for their initiatives by donating towards the bounty of that project (except I am currently giving them random donations from my personal wallet and praying others follow)

As long as we can keep the organization and management of the campaigns going the idea is that the more investors donate to projects, the more dedicated the volunteers will become the more projects will be completed - the more talented volunteers we will grow within our community.

Here is another piece to it all - credit of work for portfolio's and community tipping atmosphere.

My question is..
How can we use this system I have been working on building to create the "Mintcoin Guardians"?

Perhaps inviting the guardians into the developers circle for investing - creating a section where we offer portfolios of top investors and recent projects they have supported with a tipping address for the investor?

If possible I would like to keep this conversation going for a few days so I can create a strategy for implementation with your feedback. Ill submit an open pole next thursday (taking this weekend off - enjoy the wallet update!) and spread across the social networks taking everyone's feedback.
I have had something implemented in Colossuscoin in the very same way as the Mintcoin guardians you speak of since the beginning of the year. A community is like a clan so it should adopt a tiered clan structure, I have spent time when I was younger moderating and managing forums for top clans of 300-400 people. The structure works because all long term members vote on new members and the "guardians" choose or reject other guardians. The only problem we had once was where we had let someone into the Development Team and they started trolling all the other members and was unanimously agreed upon to remove that person.

Instead of charging people to be a part of the guardians you should be paying them in Mintcoin and the way that can be done is by charging a % of stake to a group managed fund which needs a majority of keys, Armory style. Then you also raise the minimum fee to also be adaptive to the amount of combined transactions with a % minimum and change the Coinage to slightly decay over time. Bloat is a big issue and you don't want to have exchanges and other places clogging up the Blockchain with 1000's of combined transactions for large withdrawls so the way transactions are combined should also be looked at in how to make it more efficient.

You can check out exactly how I have setup the forum structure with my test forums I made a few months back, I'll just copy what I wrote about it from the forums.

Original post:
I had a fantastic idea, I created a new Colossuscoin Test forum so that we can work open source on building our forums without people needing admin privileges. There is no domain for the forums, hopefully you guys can connect to it. I made a copy of the layout of our boards and combined it with the layout of Bitcointalk and Gaming forums and reorganised and renamed all the boards and edited all the descriptions. I think it would be a great addition to all the hard work Sudo and Heat007 put into the design of the forums. If you like my layout proposal I think it would be fairly easy for Sudo to copy all the board names and descriptions and I could help organize everything.

These are the Forums I made.
http://107.170.4.50/index.php

I find the forums to be a fantastic way to store a lot of useful information, I even have a section of where we can collaborate information on ideas and different methods.

I am not just suggesting these things, I am implementing them into the new structure of Colossuscoin, abeit a bit slower than I'd like to see it happen but making progress. Much of what I am working with is based off Mintcoin so I guess you guys will see whether the structure works or not regardless.

I tried pushing this before when it was first posted and didn't get much traction; however I personally think its a great idea. I just need to make sure I am not the one initiating or pushing the cause as it may become political somehow :/

I would not take it "the wrong way" if you pushed this.

The reason why I like this idea, is that we need to assemble the community (if there is any left?), ideally everybody should get involved with voluntary tasks, however, not all can commit to donating "time", therefor is it good have the option to donate cash instead.

Why not code in a % of Stake to a group managed fund? The donation model simply does not work and I think it is the wrong approach for Cryptocurrencies to try and rely on building infrastructure in such a way. Cryptocurrencies are already like small corporations and every Coin has a group of trusted people running it so if something was going afoul, the majority can change the fund to a new management group.
3070  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Colossuscoin- 1.5.2 BIG, STRONG, and FRIENDLY [MANDATORY UPDATE] on: August 19, 2014, 09:36:03 PM

Colossuscoin relaunch - Colossuscoin2.0 Client -  coming soon!
We are currenty building a new and improved Wallet for Colossuscoin which will be ready soon.

Could you post a rough idea of when we can expect the new wallet?

If everything goes smoothly, it should be within one week and we can start open testing.

Are there any updates?

Sorry for the late reply, I wasn't sure how to answer your question when you wrote it, my coder has recently been hospitalized and haven't heard from him in a little over a week and a half.

My own knowledge and abilities are expanding and so I have coded changes to Colossuscoin2.0 to include coin control, fast index, DNS seeding, images and icons and currently getting the Windows QT compiled so we can go through and test some more.

Before release of Col2.0 we will also need to go through the fee minimums, percentage fees, % of Stake to the Development Fund and further code optimization.

I could also include things like anonymous messaging, IRC, and anonymous sending but my goal here is to eliminate as much potential bloat as possible and IMO it would be better to experiment with sidechains to include the extra features to connect to each other so the extra memory that these things cause can be pruned without affecting peoples personal coins.

To those who have been waiting on this for some time, I am working on this in all the spare time I have. I also work full time and allows me disposable income to help move things along a bit quicker. The reason it's taking so much time is that it's more or less me making all these changes and when it comes to working with independent coders, many can clone and compile clients but do not understand the effects of the changes.

My goal with Colossuscoin2.0 is fairly simple, create a true Decentralized Corporation which will always provide funding for future advancements without having to rely on donations and is always beneficial to hold long-term. I hope you all of you reading this will keep following our progress in our endeavor.

Hello all Mintcoiners,

I have uploaded a full copy of the Mintcoin Blockchain to Megaupload. This is to help all Mintcoiners who are new and want to fully sync their wallets from scratch quickly.

The link for the Blockchain as of August 11th is available here https://mega.co.nz/#!8x8zwZgS!TSg2kis3nLWx12_SsDFnbjQA-zDoOfhdkC09i3ks12g

The Zip file compresses the Blockchain by 31% and provides a direct link for download. The size of the file is 750 MB and takes about 1 hour to download vs approximately 36-48 hours to Sync from scratch.

I posted an in depth guide on sharing the Blockchain in this way a couple pages back as well.

Happy Mintcoining

Crestington

Fabulous! Thanks!

Cryptomommy asked me if I could do this for you guys and so I took the time out to do this for you guys so please make sure that this isn't going to get buried in the thread pages.

I don't own any Mintcoin and don't have a lot of time to devote to helping other Altcoins so I would like it if a someone from the community could take the time to test, adapt and polish the guide for Mintcoin which I posted a few pages back https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=450381.16600

In return for my services I would like it if you guys please could link me to the process you are using for uploading and hosting the Blockchain via Torrents.
Excellent! Do we have a torrent of this yet we can all seed? That way people can download it in like 5 minutes instead of an hour. I have lots of bandwidth to help out seeding.

I don't have loads of bandwidth, but I'd be more than happy to help seed.   Wink

Who can make a torrent and seed this? Also the magnet link on the announcement thread needs to be deleted as it is old and doesn't work.

Well I tried testing it out but it is not working for me.  I downloaded it, and pasted the files into my Appdata > Mintcoin folder but when I run the wallet, it gives an error message. Does this happen for anyone else?

It has worked with other coins, what exactly did you do and what error message was given?

I download the files to desktop and extracted them then copy and pasted and replaced the files into the Mintcoin folder where the old files were. This is the error:

Then I tried deleting the two blockchain files and then restarting, and then it works, but starts re-downloading the blockchain from scratch again.

When I have a bit of extra time over the next few days I'll go over it and run some tests, what operating system are you running? I did the Blockchain on a computer with Windows 7.

Excuse me ? Disagreement ?

He failed to deliver a ZERO PREMINE, PoW coin and then turned this into a fiat based deal after I requested the refund, because LTC's dollar value went up.

If you are not him, you are a chip off the perverbial shitcoin pushing block.

Lol, I am not Muddafudda and only ended up getting involved with your $60 dispute because I was tired of you trolling me for months over something I had no involvement in and happened about a month before I even joined up here. Why did I call it a dispute? because you and him are such polar opposites that all it takes is one disagreement, it would have happened regardless of whether or not he provided to you what you asked for.

What is Testnet?

An alternate blockchain built into most *coin clients, used solely for testing, usually with some extra bits in the code to accelerate things like PoS.

Yeah I know what Testnet is, just more of a pet peeve to make suggestions and try to help and be met with rudeness from the ones that don't even practice what they preach.

cryptopaths contradicts the info that is found is this topic.. the truth is on these pages for all to see.

for one thing he (looong ago) randomly from out of now here, half way through this topic.. started claiming some of us were trying to extort people
and no matter how many times i told him (or others) i seen nobody saying anything like that in the slightest he just kept pushing on with it.
he simply put.. made it up.
he then made up accusations that some of us ddos'd him because of arguing on this topic.
which is nonsense.. how would any of us even get his IP ?
And he made other topics here making these same claims also and no matter how many times we all asked him to provide some proof he has not !

i was not going to say anything else here but i feel i have to counter that guys lies.
the facts and the truth are within the 90+ pages here for all to see !
i know i was a part of this topic since page one LOL

lastly what muddafudda said is extremely accurate and i can vouch for him here.
he had also said early on within the first several pages if any coins that he has helped make etc
are deemed crappy or what ever then what ever happens.. happens (is sort of what he was saying)
He did not say he wanted any special treatment for any of his so called coins.

I've sort of known this guy muddafudda from last year and we never talked all that much but i trust him enough.
he has made some coins and has been one of the few guys in all of crypto that has been open honest and up front with me about coin cloning type of stuff
if i ever had a question he would answer it and talking with him has been a breeze.. he is a really down to earth easy going guy.
i've asked about stuff before and he just answers ..no games or drama or attitude.

If he wants to close HIS topic so be it.. it is getting kind of long and hard to sift through LOL

edit:
And lots happened too ! (in response to the guys saying this topic did nothing)
One guy suggested starting an Anonymous attack pool of sorts to target scam coins to fork them and i loved that idea but we did not get started on it Sad
Also the public warning message on a popular topic about a coin being a scam is damaging enough.. not much else was really needed  Cheesy

edit666:
i tweaked it a bit ..sorry bad spelling etc lol

Man, are people really that ignorant to give you negative trust just because they don't agree with your views?

I would disagree with out and out attacking coins because it costs a lot of innocent people a lot of money so really the best solution is exactly what we have here, a group of people actively going through and discussing what makes a coin a bad investment.

If you understand how Blockchains work, the capabilities in coding of the people in these threads and reputation, you would see how Operation Shitcoin is not that big of a threat. The only one that can really take down coins here is BCX and other than a bit of flaw finding, he doesn't go around attacking every coin because it harms his reputation and business.

In terms of Muddafudda, I would rather him not have this thread closed because it's good for the community. Muddafudda is a decent coder, he can clone coins and compile wallets and was able to do it before most everyone else but he is learning and would just try new things and unfortunately so many people picked up the coins and shoved it to market for a quick buck when these coins were only experimental. I've gotten to know Mudda a bit over the last 6 months, I don't think I would get coding done by him but he has also never intentionally scammed anyone (The HippieTech thing was a huge disagreement)

I have respect for Muddafudda because he has the fortitude to hide nothing, you see him as he is with all his greatness and flaws, not some trumped up version pretending to be something he's not.

After further reviewing the code that e.exchangers has given me I left negative feedback because the code he used has a number of coding errors as seen by pushing the code against other coins and I paid him 0.5 BTC for some further work with no word in nearly a week. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt but can't wait for weeks and months on end for code that he can't fix himself.

Zack, if you would like I can help you with source code of a Pow/Pos coin that is functional and works and can show you where changes need to be made and how to create a new Merklehash and Genesis Block as well as compiling on Linux.

I would need a bit of help with compiling on windows though so would like to do a bit of quid pro quo and share information.

A new coin does not need to be made. Just a hard fork

Yes I know that, but would be good to have an independent copy to test and try new things on so can be more confident of changes.

Testnet...

Have a look at Gitian, which uses a virtual machine under Linux to provide a consistent OS install for cross compiling a Windows executable. The config files (*.yml) for ADTv2 seem to be valid, and are located in contrib/gitian-descriptors/ . You need to build boost, qt, deps first (at each step, move the zip created from build/out to inputs/ ), then do the final gitian-win32 client build.

Would you be able to explain this in a bit more detail? specifically

"(at each step, move the zip created from build/out to inputs/ ), then do the final gitian-win32 client build."

I had used the link I posted as well and could compile Boost, QT and all dependencies but had a lot of trouble with compiling errors when trying to link Berkley libraries and really just error after error.

It's a real pain in the behind. I spent ages tryng to set up BOOST and QT on MingGW, but after about 20 "issues" (eg a patch required to fix a compile error) I felt I was wandering into "hack" territory - too much work to compile a specific set of libraries for a particular coin, that would probably end up broken again if anything ever changed.

Once the compile succeeds, try modifying the YML files to work with newer libraries. In particular, I would update openssl.

Yeah this seems very hard compile for Windows I will be give try if get this some how to build under Windows also. Cross compile enviroment idea may good idea also to try.

I find this link for Windows wallets is useful https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=149479.0

I found compiling in Linux to be more straightforward but had quite a bit of trouble getting it to compile in Windows. If you could help with a little guide if you are successful I can shout you a bit of Btc
