3061  Economy / Reputation / Re: Likely campaign abuse on: July 17, 2018, 05:48:00 PM
Nope. Was hoping someone else would look into them further and find something concrete or more alts which I'm sure there are more of. Had a cursory look at the threads they were posting in and didn't notice anything, but I don't have the time and energy to look into them further, but this shitposting is annoying.

Couldn't find their names on their bounty spreadsheet either: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4501947

Noticed two of these posting back to back in a necrobumped thread registered in the same month and on the same campaign. Then noticed another registered the same day posting in a different thread on the same campaign. All make the same generic shitposts in spam threads and start their sentences the same:

Don’t panic, not the first nor last time BTC adjust level. Don’t give your BTC for cheap.. HODL
Yes, if you notice that value of bitcoin goes down we need to calm and don't panic in this kind of situation cause panicking it may cause to loose our investment in a seconds. We need to think first, to think the best solution to make our investment will gain high profit we need to hold our bitcoin and wait the perfect time for bitcoin.

I think people have a particular fear before investing in bitcoin. I think the biggest worry of many investors before deciding to invest in bitcoin is unstable profit and the big threat from the hacker. So few investors agreed to take the risk to make a profit from bitcoin.
Yes, Some people have fear and scared and lots of questions from there mind if they start to invest in bitcoin or not  cause bitcoin have unstable value and also hackers and scammers are always there we cannot blame there if they decided or not to invest, and some people are brave they know how to face the risk and make decisions to choose investing in bitcoin to gain high profit.

I already said my piece to those who wanted to learn about bitcoin, some already believed when i showed them my earnings, some still believed its a scam and if until now they're blind i won't waste my energy to prove them wrong about bitcoin.
Yes, some people are not believe in bitcoin they say bitcoin is scam the people say that they didn't know the true value of bitcoin, ignore those people it never help you. And I know some people are believed in bitcoin they are open minded to learn and to become successful someday and they saw on what happened on your life when you join bitcoin.

a better option is to invest directly, not through others. you can buy bitcoin with fiat. Keep it in your wallet and then wait until you see a profit. because the bitcoin is real and promising, not a scam.
I agree in your opinion, bitcoin is not scam as you think cause bitcoin is good investment for future. If you want to buy bitcoin and invest make sure it is legit make a search if they scam or not for your own . Do not trust anyone to offer you to invest cause scammers are always there .

It is true that bitcoin can change everything in finance, and already many poor people become rich even billionaires because bitcoin, and in the future bitcoin will be much more expensive and it gives many opportunities for us to become more successful and free of finance in the future , I hope all goes well.
I agree in your opinion, yes bitcoin can change your life everything especially in financial status. Many poor people they become rich because of there hard work and dedication to learn about cryptocurrency. Bitcoin teach us everything about investing and trading cause bitcoin wants us to become successful in the future in financially stable.

In my opinion banning cryptocurrency in a country is like banning the future in business. Sooner or later those goverments will surely know what is the importance of cryptocurrency. Bitcoin is the FUTURE!
I agree in your opinion, banning a bitcoin in one country it's a mistake, for me cause we know that bitcoin is give profit high profit in every investment and bitcoin is big help for them and there economy to become successful. I wish that one day there government will  realize that bitcoin is give them good future.

Very likely belong to the same person and there's possibly more if anyone wants to look into it further and find anything concrete.
3063  Other / Meta / Re: Disable signatures/bounties til a user reaches full member status. on: July 17, 2018, 08:42:01 AM
Disable all the signatures, dont be biased, there is no one here in the right position to remove the ability to earn of anyone.
Being here first doesnt mean that you are in a good position to tell us what to do.If theymos really wanted this thing a long time ago why he didnt tried to? because its unfair to the newcomers.

Theymos has made several changes to signatures here. A long time ago everyone had the same Hero-sized signature upon signup, but then they were changed to get larger with ranks due to the huge amount of abuse that was happening, but the forum doesn't owe you a signature nor a right to earn money. The forum could remove signatures at any point and they likely will be removed at some point in the future if the spam situation isn't solved or curbed because things can't continue like they are and are only going to get exponentially worse the more people that sign up here to just earn from them. Lets be honest, the only reason you are likely here is to earn and if signatures did get removed then you sorts of people would leave the very same day and never return (or maybe you'd wait around for a few days complaining and hoping in vain that they would be reinstated). We could just as easily argue that why is it fair that old timers are punished by the influx of spamming newbies who don't give a shit about bitcoin or the technology other than they heard they can earn here? Punish everyone because of the people who would instantly leave the moment signatures are disabled? That doesn't sound right either. I wouldn't even be against removing signatures for everybody until you've earned the merit to get the signature in the first place. Make everyone start from zero merit. I and other posters who actually contribute something worthwhile here would have no issue in getting the required merit, but the legions of spammers who sign up here with their half a dozen to hundreds of accounts in their farm certainly would and that is the crux of the whole issue here in the first place.
3064  Other / Meta / Re: Require a small amount of merit to become a Junior Member on: July 17, 2018, 08:29:08 AM
I think the people from the post you posted should be penalized in different way. I have yet to get a merit, and as far as I can tell other legit JR. members also. It's not fair that we should be penalized because of obvious spammers.

You don't have to be a bot or an obvious spammer. There are many users who just write 30 one liners over the required time and then they become a Junior Member with no effort whatsoever. People are farming accounts in their hundreds if not thousands this way. Requiring one merit is not outrageous, but it certainly makes farming Junior accounts much more harder and doesn't really effect those others who are here to contribute something as they will likely get the merit pretty fast. I've just looked over your few pages of posts and whilst I wouldn't call you a spammer you haven't really contributed anything substantial either, but I doubt you'd have much issue in getting one merit if you put some more effort in. Requiring one merit to move up a rank really shouldn't be an issue, and if people can't even achieve one merit I would say the problem lies with them.
3065  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's FIFA World Cup Pool Discussion Thread on: July 16, 2018, 12:12:34 PM
First goal came after very soft foul and we can say that France shouldn't have gotten it, but again there is a lot of decisions like that in the game and nobody wouldn't mention it if there wasn't a goal as result from that free kick. It happens, on first viewing I would give the foul as well, but after watching the tape you can see that he dived before contact. Again, can't really blame the referee.

Yeah, you could argue all day about such things as tackles and 'soft' fouls that should or shouldn't have been given. What happens if someone scores from a corner or throw in that shouldn't have been given? People start complaining about that? Sometimes decisions go your way and sometimes they don't, but it's all part of the game at the end of the day.

It's easy for us as spectators to complain about decisions but we're not on the pitch and have the added benefit of instant replays from about half a dozen angles instantly. I've often thought things were (or weren't) clear penalties or free kicks upon live/first viewing but changed my mind after the replays and that's something refs or players don't have (unless it goes to VAR but then a lot of the time it's down to opinion). People complain about diving as cheating, but if you can get away with it why wouldn't they do it? On the flip side, sometimes people are fouled, but they don't go down and try carry on, therefore they don't get the penalty or free kick when they should have, whereas if he had of gone down or exaggerated then they might have got it. With that being said, people who blatantly dive or make a meal out of it do - or should - get carded so these things work both ways and fouls given or not being given are just something you have to accept and deal with.
3066  Other / Meta / Re: Require a small amount of merit to become a Junior Member on: July 16, 2018, 11:39:51 AM
I don't think that guys like this one are rare. In fact, one of the most troubling information is how he manages to have 200 accounts<?

Bots. It's automatic posting so it takes little-to-no effort once they're set up. Most of the bumping services I've seen their posts are just complete generic garbage reworded slightly over their dozens-to-hundreds of accounts so they just load the bots up with whatever crap they can be bothered making and just set it to whatever intervals they want. The previous bots were just posting the same one liners over dozens of accounts and then removing them before they were re-posted.

The issue also is that many bounties are accepting newbies, even brand new users, in their campaigns.

That's why you need to introduce posting restrictions, or to ban bounties.

I think the only way to get rid of the massive spam is banning bounties. On the one hand we will lose attractiveness for those spamming bots but on the other hand a lot of good (in terms of helpfulness, posting quality, ...) posters will be lost, too.

Bounties are the least of ours concerns. At least the junk is confined to it's own board an nobody else outside if there has to see it. it's the stuff that spills out of the alt coin section like crapcoin campaigns that are the issue.

synthesized  lol. What the hell does that mean? You mean you took several posts and combined them into one? That's plagiarism. It's taking others work and passing it off as your own to cheat bounties. Again, what is your account here? I'm not psychic.

a very doubtful penalty.

It was not the right call, it was not an intentional hand touch, and when you do not touch the ball with your hand intentionally there is common consensus it is not a penalty. Beside that it did not change the way the action was going, after Perisic was another Croatian player and Croatian goalkeeper and not any France player. You can't dare to change the way a final will go by giving a nonsense penalty. Only a south american referee can do that. I don't understand why they didn't put an European referee to judge a final which was all European. An European referee knows much better the way of play European teams play than a south american one.

99% of handballs in the area are accidental but they still get given penalties half of the time. If somebody purposely handballs it then they should be sent off like Sanchez was in the Columbia/Japan game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcAiSPDgh1c

If someone boots the ball at your hand point blank then it shouldn't be a penalty. The handball rule is so ambiguous though as it is up to personal opinion at the end of the day. It's silly that the ref spent so much time at the VAR, then went back, then gave it. If you have to spend so much time looking at it then it's not 'clear and obvious'.

This was a tough game for us. If somebody offered us 2nd place before tournament we would have taken it gladly. But now after the final game and seeing how well the guys played there is a little bit of sorrow. If we had a little bit more luck on our side this could have ended very differently.

But France has deserved the gold medal. They played very consistently throughout the whole tournament and didn't even needed any extra time and/or penalties to finish their opponents. Any of you guys here from France maybe? If affirmative, congratulations.

Unfortunately it was only the referee fault for what happened to Croatia. I had bet on them to win the World Cup but the penalty totally changed the way of how the game proceeded further. I can never accept a south american referee in a final of a World Cup where both teams are from Europe. I am feeling sorry for Croatia too, it just shows how corrupt FIFA is.

C'mon, don't be silly. You're just being a sore loser now because a game didn't go your way. Croatia winning the tournament was the only way I could have won money but France were the much better team and even without the penalty they still would have won the game. How does it show corruption as well? Why would FIFA care whether France or Croatia won?

Do you think someone can answer your question without knowing an account nickname?

Well does it matter? I'm just wondering if anyone has the same case. But anyway my account name is "ichanjay". Do you have any clue what could have been the problem

Well let's take a look. Oh, this didn't take long. Look at this post you merited with your own alt account:

Blockchain and Cryptocurrency was made and created so that everyone could enjoy the hassle free monetary system and this is our future of economy and trade.
Hence, nobody could stop nor block it and could take away from the people. Not even Governments, State, Organization or individuals could stop or manipulate it die to it's massive security protocols. Even great countries like China, Korea or India can create any FUD they want but they will not be able to totally Bring down Crypto as a whole. It's like the Pandora's box. Once it's opened it could not be stopped. I see mass adoption very soon as big companies are integrating the blockchain technology in their businesses. I truly believe that we're still in the early stage.

Which is also a copy and paste:

Blockchain and Cryptocurrency was made and created so that everyone could enjoy the hassle free monetary system and this is our future of economy and trade.
Hence, nobody could stop nor block it and could take away from the people. Not even Governments, State, Organization or individuals could stop or manipulate it die to it's massive security protocols.
Even China couldn't stop their citizens on accessing Blockchain Technology even they already blocked every Cryptocurrency related activities.

So I'm guessing that you were banned for plagiarism like 99% of the others who ask the same thing.
3071  Other / Meta / Re: Most of our moderators are inactive on: July 15, 2018, 10:54:19 AM
'Most' is an exaggeration  Most of those aren't proper mods anyway. The only two that are - or were - are MiningBuddy and Raoul but they were removed from staff a while ago which was probably due to inactivity. Theymos probably just forgot to manually remove their names from the sub boards which has happened a few times. If you check their profiles you'll see it doesn't say staff anymore.
3072  Other / Meta / Re: Global Moderators fired? on: July 13, 2018, 05:37:41 PM

I don't think polls are the way to go and are incredibly biased. People should be made staff on the willingness to report accurately and there are probably several good candidates who have thousands of reports between them.
Since, you're a global mod, you should be knowing on who reports a lot, and based on the highest number of reports by users, a poll can be run, on who fits the best in the category? Also, is there a way to make polls available only for Members/Full members and above? So that the abuse could be more or less be avoided.

I only have a general idea of who is reporting a lot and no definitive stats or figures and that's mostly what we should be going off, but I have recommend people before based on them being prolific in reporting. I had no idea Welsh had anywhere near that amount of reports though, but if staff are having to spend all day handling your reports then it would make sense for you to be on staff.

Theymos can create polls limited to certain member ranks, but regular users can't as far as I'm aware.

But despite not being active on those boards you're still finding the shitposters that you list in your threads so giving you the delete button or the banhammer would make sense. Perhaps the patroller thing or whatever it is that would let you nuke newbies.
I'm not sure what "patroller" stands for nowadays. As far as I know, any Staff is patroller, and only Mod on their own subforum. But I'm not sure.

Patrollers are just like 'baby' mods who can only handle reports on newbies (and nuke them if appropriate). Not all staff are also patrollers but most are I think.
3073  Other / Meta / Re: Disable signatures/bounties til a user reaches full member status. on: July 13, 2018, 05:32:33 PM
I haven't read through this thread yet, but I really think we should remove signatures from lower ranks completely and then signatures should be given as a reward for people who have earned enough merit and subsequently the right to earn here via signatures. The amount of people who are signing up here just to copy and paste other's posts is ridiculous. It's both very hard to spot and incredibly time consuming for people to report and for staff to handle. Crapcoin campaigns accept them every single time and often at all ranks and are none the wiser to their abuse, whilst staff are left to clean up their mess. It doesn't matter if you get your accounts banned because it costs nothing to create and bot accounts here which most of them are likely doing and who cares if your lose a Junior Member? Start again or use one of the others from your stockpile. I've probably banned over 50 users today alone all copying other's posts that krishnapramod has reported and the reports keep flooding in.

I mean, what other alternatives are there here? The longer we do nothing about this spam the worse it gets and there will likely be a breaking point where theymos just has enough of all the nonsense and hassle and removes signatures all together, but then everybody is penalised for the greed and desperation of others and the people who came here just to abuse bounties will leave as quickly as they came. Let people earn their right to earn from posting here, and let the chaff just collect their bounties in the bounty boards until they manage to earn some merit, but don't let them pollute the rest of the forum or be the cause of removal of all signatures completely.

Also, I still think we should include some paid donator ranks like Copper Member (Silver & Gold Member etc) that come with the benefits of higher ranks (ie bigger signatures like Senior and Hero). If people are complaining that it takes too long to get merit then let them pay to bypass those restrictions. Give the money to charity or something. It's win win in my opinion).

3074  Other / Meta / Re: Global Moderators fired? on: July 13, 2018, 12:17:22 PM
I don't think new mods need to be found to replace everyone that leaves or are removed, but Rickbig was made a Global a few months back and he probably covers both their workload as he's very active in moderating. As I've been saying for years though, workload should be distributed around better. There's been no dedicated mod of big boards like Bitcoin Discussion for years and that certainly could do with it's own one. The alt coin section is getting swamped now and mprep was always overloaded as it's a huge board, but now that section is getting worse since he become a Global and doesn't have enough time to dedicate to it.

Because of this, I can only conclude that the needs of having more mods in this forum is a must thing to do. I have seen a lot of good members in this forum who are not biased. Why not make them a mod?
By the way they are acting towards this forum. We can easily say that they will surely not reject the offer?
What is actually making them not to be on that position?

I don't have the power to promote people to mods. All I can do is make suggestions when I think there are gaps that need filling.

I don't think new mods need to be found to replace everyone that leaves or are removed, but Rickbig was made a Global a few months back and he probably covers both their workload as he's very active in moderating. I am thinking, if there is inadequate distribution of workload which seems to be the case, how about running a poll to vote for new staff members?

I don't think polls are the way to go and are incredibly biased. People should be made staff on the willingness to report accurately and there are probably several good candidates who have thousands of reports between them.

Thanks for explaining this. I see now that it is not more global mods that are required but mods need to be assigned to some of the more spam inflicted boards that only either yourself or mprep can currently deal with.

Either/or would work, but delegating workload by sub board would probably be more efficient than just promoting more Globals as you just get swamped. The boards that don't have any mod or just a Global should be allocated one at least, especially the huge/most popular boards.
3075  Other / Meta / Re: Require a small amount of merit to become a Junior Member on: July 12, 2018, 03:14:24 PM
I don't think a single merit requirement is of any significance, it's too easy to feed into an alt and bot network. I've mad a number of suggestions in the past, and some of them are.

It would be very difficult to bot this given the nature of the scarceness of merit, not to mention not worth it for them.

- Newby thread starting restricted to an intro and an account recovery board. Newbies and juniors restricted to beginners and associated boards.

I don't necessarily disagree with some restrictions being put in place on where and what newbies can post, but theymos seems dead against this, and I understand his reasoning.

- Merits associated with posts deleted by a mod, or by  the poster should be removed.

I agree with this. It seems some people are even deleting their posts once they've been merited. This could be done to cover up abuse. If a post is deleted for whatever reason then the merit should go with it.

- No merits for trading, bounty, ICO or similar posts.

As I mentioned in another thread recently, I don't think excluding bounty threads from being able to receive merit would be bad thing.

3076  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's FIFA World Cup Pool Discussion Thread on: July 12, 2018, 02:54:42 PM
Games are available to predict now. So I need 955 points to get to current third place I believe, and have just made my last two predictions which will get me 1020 points if correct which would take me to third place as it stands. The scores are pretty outlandish so I've just got to go all or nothing now. Doubt either of them will come in though. Would have been so different if it wasn't for those late goals in the Russia and England matches. That there would have been around 1000 points alone.
3077  Other / Meta / Re: Why the trust is not shown in all sections. on: July 12, 2018, 12:06:30 PM
I mean if someone has an activity score of 280 and no merit, you can probably safely assume their post isn't going to be of great use.

If they have an insane amount of posts and no merit, then yeah, you can probably assume that they haven't been writing much of use, but they could also just be unlucky or be a local board poster where there's few or no merit sources.

There will be a copuld of anomalies  but it should work? After all, the merit system was made to combat trolls and spammers.

I don't think it had anything to do with trolls, but just sig spam and account farmers. Trolls still get merit from people (at least when they're entertaining) so can still move up the ranks.

If you allow account sales, then trust is no longer useful in trading. The trust system has morphed into a reputation ststement, and I think this is more useful. It allows for the flagging of sold accounts for example.

Even if we disallowed account sales people would still sell their accounts elsewhere. I'm not against banning their sale, but I'm a big believer in that the forum should offer more donator ranks that come with bigger signatures as perks as this would essentially kill the account farming and selling market because accounts would become largely worthless then. In addition, you could also ban account sales here to further kill the market and I don't think people will bother buying them off site as there would be no point and the likelihood of you being scammed would increase drastically.
3078  Other / Meta / Require a small amount of merit to become a Junior Member on: July 12, 2018, 11:53:59 AM
Not sure if anyone has requested this or not before, but I think we should consider adding a small merit requirement to become a Junior Member. Even if it was just a one merit requirement I think it would help a lot, because far too many spammers and spambots are getting the rank and once they hit that they can't be nuked. We're getting hit by a lot of these 'haiku' bots as people keep calling them (though I think they're more like doge bots: riveting business, spotless design, much wow):

Those are all Junior Members and their posts all follow the same format. There's also hundreds of them. They should be nuked as deleting their posts one by one is incredibly time consuming. Alternatively, allowing Globals or something to nuke Juniors would also help.
3079  Other / Meta / Re: SIGNATURE CAMPAIGNS COULD ALSO BE A SOURCE OF THE SPAMMING on: July 12, 2018, 11:23:00 AM
I`m thinking, signature campaigns are not the cause of spam problem.

I disagree. I think the cause of the spam is almost exclusively signature campaigns.

You could post hundreds of posts every day and still be on topic, not spamming, not copypasting.

Those users would be rare.

It all comes down to the culture of communacation and reason why somebody came here.

I would say the vast majority of people (at least 90%+) only sign up here to earn from signatures or bounties. News that you can earn good money here is spreading like wildfire throughout developing countries and hence why the post quality deteriorates rapidly because a lot of them can't speak English very well if at all and more and more of them are signing up every day. A lot of them don't even seem to be in or out of high school yet.

If a guy just came on forum to get money he woldn`t care much about rules and content of his posts.

And they don't. All they care about is earning money as quickly and as easily as possible, hence why many just copy and paste posts or content.

He`ll just want to formally get a minimal number that he needs for having his stake/points whatever you name it, and nobody can control amount of posts, coming from all people, whether they participating in campaigns or trying to rank up. Forbid all bounties and signature campaigns, destroy every opportunity to make money out of posting - and this will get you a result of much less spam  Wink

I'm confused, because you seem to be contradicting your original sentence. You said they're not the cause, but are now suggesting that signatures be removed to tackle the problem?

Trust should not have any bearing on your perception of the person posting. It's only natural to see a trust rating, and assume that the person is talking bollocks or aren't worth listening to if they have a negative rating. In reality this isn't the case.

On the other side it sometimes helps distinguish trolls and people you shouldn't waste your time with. I've previously seen people 'talking bollocks' in Bitcoin Discussion and wasted my time trying to engage them and then when you then see their profile and it's littered with red you suddenly realise they're a troll and that's all their account is good for now. I'm not saying that trust should be shown everywhere, but I get the reasoning why it's not shown because it will effect how you perceive that person (though sometimes knowing their 'true colours' can be helpful).

Why doesn't merit work to distinguish this though?

I'm not sure how it would. If they don't have any merit therefore they're a troll?

This is a good point. This is kind of why I liked the ignore glow effect that was shortly implemented a while back. The more the user was ignored the more glow that was added, and what colour the glow effect was. That was good for distinguishing users that aren't worth listening too. This did have its drawbacks which resulted in it getting removed, but I feel that this was better suited than the trust system in identifying trolls.

Nah, I disliked that feature immensely. Whilst it worked in some cases (I remember people like Phinneaus Gage glowing like a nuclear reactor), I was put on ignore on my hilariousandco account by a lot of people just because I was outspoken, or for making a lot of posts. I remember a couple of people 'ignoring' me just because they lost an argument which is pretty petty. I don't think I was ever glowing, but I probably would have go there eventually so it can give the wrong impression or make people judge you in a similar way that negative feedback would.
