Yeah I do not trust Belgium today, and from what I did see of Canada will not be surprised if they win even if my monry would be on Croatia. Feel a lot better about Japan after their first game, and expect Spain yo KO Germany today.

Good luck to Cro2 boys today, depending on whether Spain take me home, I might scratch my itch on Croatia over 1.5 goals.
3063  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC is likely to head towards a price of $13,000 on: November 27, 2022, 09:07:22 AM
I suppose it is possible that BTC can go to 13000 and its something we should all be ready to prepare for. I knew when I entered the crypto market I was assuming risk but I think it's a calculated risk.

I remember when being new in the space, how there would be no shortage of people who say the likelihood of Bitcoin going to the moon is about as likely as it is to go to zero.

Of course, that moon figure then was anything from 100k to a million dollars, and we went close enough to the former that even the most bitter pessimist would begrudgingly admit Bitcoin is more likely to recover its losses this year than to go to zero.

For all the reasons you state and much more. The power of the collective retail, for instance, shouldn't be overlooked.
3064  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: FTX drama stressing people for no reason | How to stay neutral on: November 27, 2022, 08:12:44 AM
I get the whole FTX issue, but if you really are into Bitcoin & crypto, then why haven't you kept your exchange wallets in check? I personally almost never used exchanges. P2P is what bitcoin is really about.

You're not a trader, so you don't really get FTX then =)

And you're not a regular joe who probably doesn't know enough about Bitcoin, or don't trust yourself enough to be the sole custodian of your money. My grandmother kept cash under her bed... but she lived through the second world war, an occupation, and saw what could happen to money (invader chucks one out, in with another, savings gone).

I guess this generation (and mine of the 1990s) needs a lesson...
3065  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Binance Users Can Now Verify The Bitcoin They Own Via Merkle Tree on: November 26, 2022, 10:05:02 PM
Funny how every CEX is now doing Spiderman pointing.

ok, they hold 0.5M of users BTC, but how do I know that this include mine bitcoins? How do I know if their liability is not 10x bigger (5M bitcoins) and this POR (proof of reserve) is not only a 10% fractional reserve?

Yeah, I think this was brought up many months back too, I could be owing 100 guys BTC and how all of them the same proof of reserve (very common tactic by regular scammers anyway, to show the same proof of bank statement to multiple creditors and the very same way banks borrow money from each other using the same depositors' funds).

Not possible for now unless it's all smart contract tied but at least a third-party has to audit.
3066  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's FIFA World Cup 22 Prediction Pool Discussion thread on: November 26, 2022, 03:30:37 PM
Betting value definite on the underdogs now. Think even handicaps are the way to go if not MLs. No one daring enough to go full upsets in pool though? As it would have been disastrous today.

Climbed 6 positions but "only" 7 points from the top. Viperious from ClubTalk flexing...

Missed first games but should still be a fun Argentina one to watch, no?
3067  Economy / Speculation / Re: A good observer makes a better speculator on: November 26, 2022, 02:23:39 PM
What makes a good observer, though? Anyone can be taught to read a chart. Anyone can be taught to read the news and make conclusions. Trading schools are a dime a dozen (and cost many dimes to learn) but why is it that even the best eventually fail in a bear market?

One might argue the best speculator doesn't allow to be made into an observer... Especially in an age where you are given the news you want to read.

I think proactive insight seeking is rare, and even that doesn't make you a good speculator.
3068  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽⚽⚽ Sportsbet's Bitcointalk World Cup 2022 - discussion ⚽⚽⚽ on: November 26, 2022, 01:54:21 PM
I can confirm Trofo and cryptofrka are very busy with work behind the scenes, think it is what one might say a natural fit with the way Steve and SB guys work. Really fun, really creative and pushing boundaries.

Personally like the way this format is working out, especially with a sort of static forum coding, I think best of all for me is seeing new blood.

@slackovic pool! Next season!
3069  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Sportsbet.io ⚽ World Cup Fantasy ⚽ 5k in rewards ⚽ Discussion thread on: November 26, 2022, 12:59:09 PM
Yeah, I. Definitely going to enjoy this one as betting and fantasy have gone out the window early. I might rebuyin during KO but for now, might just look at pure total fantasy with entire team decked out attack. And super cheap midfield to compensate.

FIFA. Fixing things that ain't broke.
3070  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Question on how to buy bitcoin & on dex exchanges on: November 26, 2022, 12:23:57 PM
Buying BTC through using dca is good and more convenient for investors, it aids an investor to control the volatility of BTC, and in my humble opinion it prevents naive investors from investing more than they can afford to lose in one lump sum purchase. Read more about dca in the link above.

Since the dollar-cost averaging strategy's main domain is an automated purchase. Does it mean that I'm required to leave some funds active to enable the automated action take place. Or I can also carry on the strategy manually; having a particular date I come for purchase irrespective of the price?

Manually is best and safest, exposing your funds to exchange vulnerability and out of your custody for asnlittle time as possible.

It does not even have to be fixed amount or time. For me every 2 weeks is really good. Or a scheduled amount (every time you save 100$ for example).

You also save on fees for exchanges with less frequency but obviously the more frequent, the better your averaging.

Also explore p2p platforms like bisq. Safer, once you get the hang of it.
3071  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽⚽⚽ Sportsbet's Bitcointalk World Cup 2022 - discussion ⚽⚽⚽ on: November 26, 2022, 07:18:50 AM
Slackovic, for sure have to hand it to you... but I feel all right in second place, and surprisingly, the tables almost look "real" from what I'd expect.

MD2 quiz seems trickier, but let's see! I entered all picks without research as it was quite tight for me yesterday Wink

Senegal was a sure thing, but in a day with many more surer things, England and Netherlands managed to miss expectations. Didn't get to see very much of the games, or watch them properly, but 0-0 and 1-1 probably just about tells the story of what the matches were.
3072  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Africa Football Discussion Thread || Current discussion: African teams at Qatar. on: November 25, 2022, 11:27:10 AM
Inaki will want to really really build on his uptake this year, and you never know Ayew, he turns up with a mad run down the flank like he does for Palace and he's gold.

I'm not a big fan of J. Ayew, but the entire Ghana hope is on A. Ayew and Partey. A. Ayew is a bit old now, and I wasn't expecting him to be selected to this world cup after his split with Ghana FA after they were eliminated from AFCON, but he is the only one capable of making dangerous attacks and shooting from the far post in that team. I never liked how J.Ayew was converted to a striker in the first place, and he hasn't done anything significant at Crystal Palace in my opinion.

He appears to have had a minor resurgence, watched last few Palace games and he has really looked dangerous and proactive.

Anyway, at least we had two goals now from Africa. And against Portugal no less. To be fair, I thought the game only opened after the crappy penalty (was correct but so soft). Almost got a hand to it too.

No worry. Only makes odds better for all teams left in remaining games. I will be keeping an eye on odds.
3073  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Will there ever be any safe centralised exchange ? on: November 25, 2022, 08:19:52 AM
I would say one day we'll see an exchange or at least a financial institution with a crypto exchange arm that'll get a true banking license along with the deposit guarantee schemes that all national banks get from their respective countries. Then I might say that's as safe as it gets (since with that guarantee it also means you open yr books to the central bank, though we all know that's not much in way of safety these days).

That would be so interesting to see , I guess this would be when regulation is in place. Therefore the only time I think this exchanges will will be total safe is when there is proper regulation, hence no one is gonna ever have faith in any centralized exchange even with the platforms that seems to be safe , like Binance and Coinbase. So with these happenings around centralized exchange safety will only come in if there's regulation in place.

And I think it will come close to such a time. There are already some banks that have more or less become crypto custodians. Bank Frick in Lichtenstein, an example I can think of but that is a small bank, old money, old family, high gdp country.

I believe there are other large entities going the route I mentioned, already crypto custodians either applying for banking license or just buying out a bank. Nexo at least is one such company but they bought a controlling stake in a fdic member so probably does not count.

Again, bears repeating that this only increases safety. Will never come to the level of assurance of owners keeping sole custody.
3074  Economy / Speculation / Re: Cathie wood says 1 btc $1m by 2030 how possible? on: November 25, 2022, 06:20:39 AM

Always taken out of context I guess. Not that analysis helps make the prediction more credible or more likely. But we also got people saying it's going to zero and constantly loudly reminding, so I suppose we gotta take the sugar and salt together.
Makes sense, as the opposite telling that bitcoin will go to zero. But I'm thinking more about the newbies that have been too hyped with high price predictions and making them decide to invest just because of those predictions.

Well, I guess it's on them and they should always take things with a basis before committing a decision.

Newbies should be allowed to do that maybe haha. I can't remember what nonsense I speculated on in 2013 when I wasn't convinced about Bitcoin yet. I do remember in 2016 asking dumb questions and wondering if we would get 1400 again soon. This was maybe around $400? Even if a year later that was coming, even 20k! No one was to know, least of all a noob. Funny that as soon as that was retrieved, the predictions from both noobs and vets added zeroes arbitrarily.

Human nature. Bitcoin brings it all out...
3075  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽⚽⚽ Sportsbet's Bitcointalk World Cup 2022 - discussion ⚽⚽⚽ on: November 25, 2022, 05:16:25 AM
It's already a wrap for those 5 users who predicted Spain to score the most goals, as I don't see Brazil scoring more than 7. I've been fighting my spirit for changing my first response (England) to Belgium, but I'm at peace now since Spain dropped us that classic performance yesterday, this dudds are running riot and all eyes must be on them.

Yeah, yet another reminder of the failings of Argentina... think those who picked England would be kicking themselves but hey, credit to Spain, I did not see that coming. Worse, I didn't even watch that game...

Will we send the answer to the questions without providing our username? I noticed that you did not check the boxes for it!!!

It did ask for our Google accounts though, so they should have been able to tie that to our previous submissions Wink I didn't even realise this but I don't mind sharing my bet in PM again!

What a pleasure its always see Brasil playing their football, its something like no other country have, that dance, that speed, that flow to play its only of  Brasil, and i say this being from Argentina.

They dance, they dont play football.

And yes what a GOLAZO by Richarlison in that second one, another thing about Brasil its, they are playing with a lot of forwards.

I dont know who can end second in that group, i choose Serbia, but..... its gonna be a tought one.

100% agreed my man. I had my doubts about Richarlison, but his goal has lit up the tournament. Sure, Spain did their job too but this was how you encapsulated everything about Brasil in one move. The only thing I felt missing was some kind of dance celebration, but I guess we needed Neymar to score to see that!
3076  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: To those who do not care about their privacy. Why? on: November 24, 2022, 08:15:31 PM
I hope this isn't unrelated (I almost want to say this could be one reason not to care, if this is a reverse play on the privacy game), but this is something I've been doing for a while. And I'm not sure it helps, I certainly know it makes me feel safer that in a world where I have to identify or verify myself, in some cases, I provide information that actually obscures, rather than exposes me.

e.g. several email identities, several birthdates, usernames, some never important, some location identities, all purposely fed to different browsers, different Google trackers.

And sometimes, it even helps me to see who's tracking what. An ad to my email that came from a VPN I used last week. Spam to my ethereum address that I entered on some list. Phishing taking on the guise of an online service. Even someone wishing me happy birthday on this forum recently (of course it's not the right date, or is it? haha).

Opens my eyes to who tracks me, what they track me for, and perhaps more importantly, multiple reminders of why my privacy is important and what's out there to identify and possibly harm me later.

I do care a lot about my privacy, so even when I'm forced to identify, I do all I can to satisfy the requirement without actually exposing what truly pins me down.
3077  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Newbie here...NEED HELP> Robinhood cold wallet and I'm a NY resident :( on: November 24, 2022, 07:15:20 PM
Tend to agree with DaveF. No point going around regulations there, it'll just get you in hot water down the road -- and they will do their best to get you there, trust me. Confiscation is no fun.

Take the hit. Liquidate and close your account. When you get your cash, go get Gemini (and check with support first when you verify you can then take the ETH out into your own wallet). Buy your coin (may I suggest BTC instead, if you're really concerned about long-term value, that's way better than anything else), take it out.

You'll lose maybe 5% in total, but it's worth many good nights' sleep.
3078  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's FIFA World Cup 22 Prediction Pool Discussion thread on: November 24, 2022, 04:30:33 PM
You know I did think it was wise to predict draws in the pool... but only Matchday 3 or KO rounds. Seems like teams got so scared after Argentina's loss. 4 scoreless draws, and the latest one 0 shots on goal?

Of course, if I change my picks everyone will start scoring...

In Japan do they have pubs? 😉
Probably a lot more than where you live actually!

I don't think the Saudi Arabia and Japan victories were a disappointment (for everyone except the fans from those countries and the bettors who love multibets).

I loved them. Here's to more... but you know what? There aren't many more big odds in Matchday 2 now haha... everyone including bookies have lowered their expectations Wink
3079  Economy / Gambling / Re: 🚀-Sportsbet.io-🚀 - Main sponsor of Southampton FC 👋👋 on: November 24, 2022, 12:53:15 PM
Right gentlemen, I'm actually getting battered in World Cup so far haha. More winning tickets than losing ones, unfortunately losing the bigger wagers, but hope to find some salvation with the Brazil outright tonight.

Also, who else made it out of the Group Stage for the WC casino tourney? I thought I'd just at least get a ticket for the finals, finished #39 on Group 1, so made it out safely but final 20 hours was pretty intense.
3080  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Africa Football Discussion Thread || Current discussion: African teams at Qatar. on: November 24, 2022, 11:20:39 AM
You are the king of underdogs, I won't be surprised if you get this one right, I'm also expecting Ronaldo to have a difficult game with everything that has been going on with him recently, it's unfortunate that none of the African teams who have played have yet to register a single goal at the moment, maybe Ghana will give us the first goal and the first win. After what Japan did to Germany today, Ghana @8.40 is a good risk.

And I will forever regret not betting on Saudi, but yeah, this tournament is already in profit for anyone always betting against the favourites. Ghana actually as high as almost 10/1 and slowly coming down so that's always a good sign for me.

Inaki will want to really really build on his uptake this year, and you never know Ayew, he turns up with a mad run down the flank like he does for Palace and he's gold.

Ghana vs Portugal. Ronaldo will be overly keen to do well after his fallout with United, worth going for a meltdown and Ghana slim win?

Yaps! I hope to see the fully motivated Cristiano Ronaldo on the score sheet, to be the first to score in five world Cup appearance. Nah! No chance for Ghanians to win. I'm a bit biased though  Smiley

I actually prefer him to please retire so the many talents on his team can finally switch to a formation that suits them, and maximise their rapid play. Jota, Sanchez (I know they're injured but I mean for the future), Felix, Fernandes, and others...

I'm team Ghana today!
