I know that percentage wise there have been rises of that magnatude, however I don't think those price increases occurred through the same ask volume density. There are a lot more bitcoins up for sale closer to the current trading price than in the past when the price shot up above $10, $20, and $30.

Will $7.20 be the 2012 high?
No! $7.20 will be the new 2012 bottom. Um, that makes no sense.

Just curious what you folks think.

I sense an incoming rally.
with your psychic powers? the rally has been happening for awhile now... i'm expecting it to top off soon actually. the push to $4.95 and then subsequent retracing back to the support at $4.84 is kind of scary. scary with all that bid on book? lol, you sissy. one should never trade based on depth. that's how you get manipulated I respect what wave and s3052 attempt to do, but after having been a subscriber to both of their services, I'm not convinced that technical indicators are much better, if they're better at all, than trading off of depth charts.

Maybe the dollar will fall 90% after this.

The design is a nice improvement. Well done.

I thank everyone for their kind words, and good sense of humor, but the important issue is actually getting a large company like this to accept Bitcoins. I would guess there are two main road blocks from their point of view. 1. Will they even get any orders from people with Bitcoins? 2. How can they automate the Bitcoin checkout? To solve #1, lets make a list of people who will promise to make a purchase from Blue Nile with Bitcoins should they publicly accept them. It can work similarly to the Bitcoin 100 for charities, but this time, it will be for large corporations. They have items starting from just $25, so nearly everyone can afford to help out. Let's call this project "the Bitcoin 100: A Kickstarter for big businesses" Some initial target companies that come to mind are: 1. Bluenile.com2. newegg.com3. memoryx.net (I know the owner, and he seems likely to be converted.) I've started the official thread here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=74400.0I emailed Newegg some time ago, but never heard a response back. I buy a lot of stuff from Newegg and would buy even more if they accepted bitcoin.

BTW Are you short again Proudhon ?
Nope.

This. If enough people sincerely believe bitcoin is stable, and, on that basis, decide to start using it, then demand for the currency will go up, and I suspect it will kick off another large bubble; and the longer this "stability" lasts, the larger I think the subsequent bubble will be.

and this: Spring 2016 - 10,000BTCsAccording to this in Spring 2018 for 10'000 BTC you can buy Earth and by Spring 2020 whole Milky Way. The growth of Bitcoin purchasing power does not grow exponentially, it will stop and balance out somewhere. I call dibs on Earth.

Congrats Roger! Good luck on procuring a ring with bitcoins. Hopefully a couple years from now we laugh about how it took so many bitcoins to buy a $50,000 ring.
does anyone else see the irony here? it would take approximately 10,000 BTC's to buy that ring today. wasn't Bitcoins breakout heralded by the 10,000 BTC pizza? Spring 2010 - 10,000BTCsP.S. Yes, those are the actual 10kBTC pizzas.Spring 2012 - 10,000BTCsSpring 2014 - 10,000BTCs

Like I said in wave's thread, I'm staying out of this mess. In terms of my bitcoin stash, I've benefited immensely from the recent move down from $7.20. A year ago I don't think I would have believed I'd have as many bitcoins as I do now without really spending much more than I initially spent a year ago. Lately I've been getting very greedy for more bitcoins, but if I keep trying to trade my way to more, I fear I'm eventually going to get burned bad. So I'm staying out of this. I've got my stash, and I'm going to try to hold on to it. I'm very interested to watch right now, though. Good luck everyone.

Yeah, I'm staying out of this. My base price is so far under $1 now that I don't feel compelled to try to improve it at every little move, and I don't want to lose any of the bitcoins I've been able to snatch up from all these little freak outs. Let's bounce off $3.80 or $3.50 or $3.00 or even $1 for all I care. I'm going to try to take a break for a few weeks.

I doubt it. All these people drawing cute little lines trying to predict the future. In a few weeks, someone else will draw a new graph claiming there was some pattern to be seen and say "see, I said that!" when it's going up again.
I've found the key to be to say a whole lot of stuff and then remind people of when I happen to have been right.
