3081  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Oscar Awards 2022 betting thread on: February 24, 2022, 10:36:17 PM
because the winners are determined by votes of the Academy of motion picture arts and sciences members. This will be similar to match fix an election because someone made a bet hehehe. You thought the winners are determined only by judges?
Welp, good thing it works like that, as long as the voters are many in numbers and in different place to avoid influincing each other then it would be a relief.
The only hard thing to do is to watch all of the best movies/entries and decide the vote.
3082  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The Nazi regime of Russia started a war against Ukraine! on: February 24, 2022, 01:44:30 PM
If they don't impose harsh sanctions on Putin and Russia today, it's never gonna be over.
Putin just responds of "they're used to it", I know he knew that it will happen so this time is different and I think they are ready for any cons of this sanctions and war.

I  just hope this does not turn into something even bigger and that the parties involved would still be open for peace talks and somehow reach an understanding that would be good enough to stop this madness.
Well, he have statement of this as well, it's like putin and its government really knows a lot what will happen if they proceed which they did, so it's a huge risk if other countries in EU, US and NATO start to participate. This will escalate to world war which I hope not.
3083  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Oscar Awards 2022 betting thread on: February 23, 2022, 06:48:04 PM
As far as I can remember this is the gambling subforum. Also, if the sportsbooks did not list the odds for the Oscar awards, no person would be in awe and make them laugh.
Well, this is my first time seeing such betting, so it is. I knew such bets occurs even the simplest competition, or going to happen is capable of being gambled or having bets.

Anyway, by such kind of gambling, this is not like a common in gambling where the victor totally depends on score in the fight or a fair play, judges has lots of influence for the outcome, so this may sound like a fixed match, it could happen or happened before, but who knows.
3084  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin War on: February 23, 2022, 06:37:37 PM
so let us not think that bitcoin will be able to defeat fiat or any government as they are so powerful to protect their interest.
Plus, bitcoin don't usually work offline so it's useless having bitcoin to pay or transfer in a place where you can't connect to the internet considering not all place have internet.

Also, having legal tender is not equivalent to official local currency so I don't think it will be related to government's interest.
3085  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MEXICAN SENATOR PLANS TO INTRODUCE BILL TO MAKE BITCOIN LEGAL TENDER on: February 23, 2022, 06:01:53 PM
I'm keen to see how other countries will become and react after another country will make bitcoin as a legal tender. Knowing that these people change perspectives when they got expose to such place and full knowledge, albeit, about bitcoin and blockchain.
3086  Other / Meta / Re: Account Recovery Help on: February 22, 2022, 12:25:20 AM
As far as i know, using non-custodial wallet doesn't mean you can sign a message, only few wallets have this feature. Even though you can access the wallet's private keys, its too risky to use a third party website or app just to make a sign message.

Using electrum in desktop can fully use the feature, i dont know what other wallets do the same.
The point I was making was about the ownership of the private keys, which custodial wallets don't give you access to. Nobody talked about third party websites, but you can still sign a message offline using the available wallets that support the feature.
I don't invalidate your point of ownership of private keys towards the using of non-custodial wallet.
All i mentioned of using non-custodial that has sign message feature if that what is all about of using it and staking address on that thread.
Knowing that you can still sign a message offline is a relief though.
3087  Other / Meta / Re: Account Recovery Help on: February 21, 2022, 11:24:14 PM
When you generate Bitcoin addresses using custodial wallets or exchanges like coinbase.com, you don't own the private keys, but it's the custodial service that owns them instead, which means you can not sign a message using that address..

3088  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Oscar Awards 2022 betting thread on: February 20, 2022, 11:18:50 PM
I just see this thread and it make me laugh and awe. That even an event like this can be put in for betting on sportsbooks.
Betting on this should have seen those movies to have better knowledge and analysis who can get the award and I guess this is harder to win than a common sports betting.
What about in sports betting? Would you place your bet on it if you don't know who are the players or the teams that are involved? Unless if you are just trying your luck and don't mind losing. I am not really into sports and I don't know if which last longer, is it the sports or the movie?

I mean the duration of the movie and a sports match but i think it also depends on the game and on the movie but we can also used the internet as a reference to instantly know the player or the cast. That cuts time if your not really a fan of watching the whole movie or watching the sport. Oscar awards/betting is a serious event and there is nothing funny about it.
Now, now, you seem a very serious person who get annoyed just because you saw someone's laugh without understanding whats behind it.

Sports bet is very different and seems to easy to bet and choose, mostly sports only have 2 choices to bet.
Unlike this oscars that has lots of entries which last 1 to 2 hours per movie. You cant bet yet and have full analysis not until you watch all of them. So think and decide what is longer to watch.

Yes internet is everything, but you cant just decide that the movie is good just watching a single or two clips in the internet even reading reviews, you need to see it yourself.
Oscars is serious event, but betting is fun.
3089  Economy / Gambling / Re: Fun Stats about Bitcoin Casinos | Infographic on: February 19, 2022, 06:10:59 PM
So that means, only 3% of crypto casinos as considered by them has valid license? That's pretty low IMO considering the number of active casinos is only +100.

Anyway, good stuff though. While there are already lots of them, as you can see those ANN threads on this section, you can see that what really shine are those who have unique look, games and not so complicated terms i.e. kyc related. Let see how much more casino will pop in the next few months.
3090  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: bitcoinpaperwallet.com - scam still alive? on: February 19, 2022, 05:32:45 PM
If you install something directly from the Apple app store or Google play store then you are right - you have absolutely no way of verifying what you are installing. This is the wrong way to install things, though.
And that's a knowledge to consider not just from crypto but to all who used to download and install from this mobile distribution services such app store and play store.

The better option is to download the app directly from the developer, verify its signatures or hashes, and then transfer the .apk file to your phone to be installed.

The best option is to download the source code, build the binaries yourself, and then use them to install the wallet on your phone.
Common smartphone users don't actually do this, idk if they know such thing exist, even most of the users here probably and that's quite alarming.
3091  Economy / Gambling / Re: 1win on Bitcointalk! on: February 19, 2022, 05:15:42 PM
I guess you aren't 100% prepared to introduce your site here yet. You still lack information and details about your site. People here are curious about what you offer so I hope that you'll do something by at least putting up a good reputation through buying a copper membership. That would help you to gain the trust of most users.
OP post is more likely to have an announcement that they are here in bitcointalk, and more likely will assist if someone needs help which is more like an ANN thread or similar.

Also, don't be confused of having copper membership is the same to have a reputation here. They are completely different.
3092  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Crypto stuck in sports betting site, now they want KYC on: February 19, 2022, 03:31:17 PM
I dont know if the problem is fixed already but your only choice is to proceed the KYC they're asking. But of course it will leave a great risk since you're already gave them a fake information so you will provide them a fully fake information and its a big no no.
3093  Economy / Gambling / Re: [Warning] luckyfish.io is CLOSING on: February 19, 2022, 03:17:08 PM
why is the site still functioning and asking for registration till now but according to the site they are supposed to be closed by December 30 2021? is that the real thing? maybe updating this thread of yours will help people understanding that is the situation now.
I don't know why the website is up, maybe because to warn its users, but you will face an error when you try to register the website "register error". It's just that its the first you can see - the registration page, when you access the website.
3094  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: bitcoinpaperwallet.com - scam still alive? on: February 19, 2022, 10:45:38 AM

There is a big jump from a website to a mobile and desktop wallets! When you open a website you have no idea what you are running and what you are sending to that website's servers and you have no way of knowing it. But with a desktop/mobile wallet you have a choice to download and install what is open source so you can verify that it is not doing something malicious.
Yes, I know the advantages of open source compare the other one. But how you can assure that the app you're going to install is the one or have full copy of the code that is publicly available for viewing on github is the same? Since you're going to install the app from app store or play store?

Coz what I have in mind is, the developers  or anyone can update the code (with malicious or not) of the app and then upload it on this mobile distribution services using their compromised accounts, without updating the code in github of course.
Is this possible? How it can be avoided without downloading the app fist just to try it and become the first victim?
3095  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: BTC.com (wallet) shutting down on: February 19, 2022, 10:31:57 AM
This is what happened when you run a wallet that is fully dependent to the business' operation or website's server unlike running like an open source and non-custodial.

People already know what are the disadvantages and cons when using this kind of wallet. Plus their wallet service seems is a long dead already.
3096  Other / Meta / Re: Why I love Bitcointalk! on: February 19, 2022, 08:38:54 AM
You're wrong here:
  • "Hate speech" is allowed, but it shouldn't just be name calling.
  • Post length doesn't matter to determine if it's spam.
"But", it is still the same, so it will be deleted soon as someone reports it, it also depends on the mod who handled it.

Yes, i know. Not all but most, as op is generalizing it as you can use those words freely which is probably not.
3097  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Few lessons learned from my past to keep up with crypto on: February 18, 2022, 10:14:07 PM
Well, experience is the best teacher after all.

Another thing, don't put all your eggs in one basket, incase a hack incident even though that the trading website always tell their funds is always safe, always be vigilant and do things on your own.
3098  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why I can't access a casino while my country isn't got blacklisted? on: February 18, 2022, 09:37:28 PM
For me, it's clear that this is the problem with your ISP which is blocked by the casino you are playing because there is no other way but to use a VPN
If this is the reason, the casino displays that your IP is blocked accessing the website or similar message.

Mostly this is because of few reasons. Like if the casino website have some third party ddos security layer, and your IP was included in their black lists.

Solution is contact the website support through their social media handles, ask their emails for support ticket and ask if you they can whitelist your IP.

Freedom of speech - you can use those words freely
Not until your post was reported, due of hate speech, short post considered as spam, trolling, and being off topic Cheesy. Well, bitcointalk is more censored than you could imagine though.

Bounties - please don't hate me — it's nice extra income. When pandemic started it was my saving grace.
Everyone loves bounties, even mods need to be compensated as well.

Discussions: This forum is filled with all kind of species, I love it.
In serious, services discussions, yes. In bitcoin discussion and the rest, no, may be slightly if the thread is new, but once it reaches 5 pages or so it becomes the nest of spammers.

History: many historical moments are etched here (pizza guy, satoshi, Hal Finney, ethereum/vitalik, etc)
Not to mention there is an automatically archives in every posts here with the help of other members, so as long those archive websites are up, history will be saved.
3100  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: bitcoinpaperwallet.com - scam still alive? on: February 18, 2022, 08:35:55 PM
Good idea. Google is best for this coz they are the most common search engine used by ordinary people who doesn't have an idea about these websites and to avoid it appearing in the search query as well. Well, as long as many people report it.
In any case people shouldn't be using a website to create their bitcoin wallets in first place! That's just silly and extremely insecure regardless of what website you are using or who controls it.
So when and how bitcoin wallets in mobiles and desktop is considered to be insecured too? The difference is only the latter needs  installation.
