Well, here's a binary which should hopefully address the known memory leak from cgminer itself based on the latest git master 009511c995458c00a5f46426c8e80ddb94c20cbb.

http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/kncminer/cgminer

With the new version 3.8.2 and fw 0.99 i have 80 Gh/s less?

Is there someting wrong?

Less on the miner or at the pool?

heh I know nothing about how to install something like this I'll wait for the next release and take it as an update then

but again we appreciate your efforts and also your time on this forum

Searing

wget http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/kncminer/cgminer
chmod +x cgminer

screen -dm ./cgminer -c /config/cgminer.conf

Don't forget to shut down the running miner first.

enablecores just turns on any cores that were turned off from hardware errors, not sure how useful it is if using latest firmware as cgminer turns the cores on and off itself, but if going back to earlier firmware (pre 0.98) then is a must[/li][/list]

ok ...I thought enablecores turned them all ON all the time....if enablecores just copies cgminer turning them off and on as needed I guess I don't need the enablecores.bin patch

    thanks

My understanding is that the enablecores just turns them all back on as a one time shot in the arm type of thing, they can still be turned off afterwards through either the later firmwares or via a version of cgminer that supports that facility.

    • as ckolivas says its purportedly due to the web interface, which makes me think its a memory leak in the API calls? ck, maybe you could clarify, would using miner.php have the same issue?
Miner.php wouldn't have this issue. It's allegedly due to using the json commands to the cgminer RPC API instead of the standard API calls as in use by miner.php and elsewhere.

Cool, I hate memory leaks, tricky to track down, especially if theres multiple suspects. All I can say is that 3.4.0 with their firmware 0.96 doesn't seem to suffer from the same problem.
That's because that version reported nothing via API for the device since that predates when I wrote code for it, and they never wrote any code for the device specific information.

Ok so I've replaced the 3.4.0 with the latest 3.8.2 and I'll run with that for 24-48 hours and see how it goes, same miner firmware that seems to work well for me, but just replace cgminer.

Yep I go back to .96 all the time because none of the newer firmwares do anything to improve my Jupiter except make it use more power and then after a few days lose more GH/s

So normally for me, its reflash 0.96, reboot, flash enablecores, reboot, flash bertmod (don't reboot)

You do realize the dwindle-down effect is from using the Bertmod....?...Right?
    Remember the memory issue?
You are partially responsible for helping identify the leak.
The memory won't get gobbled up if you stay off the GUI, putty, and bertmod..... and just use the pool to monitor...
    Just checking...

I think its just the GUI and bertmod (seeing as it becomes pare of the GUI) putty is fine according to ckolivas.

However I've also found that it only seems to affect the newer versions of cgminer in the new firmwares, although it appears fixed in .99

The firmware I use has cgminer 3.4.0 which doesn't seem to suffer from the memory leak regardless of if you are using the web interface or not.  Huh
3087  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: November 19, 2013, 09:35:05 AM
well now that my miner has been running more then 24hrs on .99 and my 'at pool' hashrate on slush has improved 25gh plus ...was running a very stable 555gh on .95 so waited a bit to upgrade....
(shocking what 24hrs of burn in can do)...anyway my questions:

    1) enablecores download on the knc site..... do you install this the same way you install update firmware like .99 binary?

    2) any danger to using this (overclocks?) core temps are higher etc? for my setup since .99 upgrade I have like 4 cores poping off/on once in a great while 1 every 1/2h or so..should I even bother?

    3) the 'memory leak" people talk about when slow creep lose of hash rate (minuscule I guess) by running the knc screen all the time on the miner or putty on all the time..anyway has this leak been fixed on new version..of cgminer?   thoughts? or so lame in gh loss no big deal?

    4)  as to being better dumb and lucky vs any planning on all this is $15,750 usd (21btc at 750/coin) a good haul for 31 days of mining (hell yes) and being as smug as we all are (was it unacceptable who has 11 Jupiters ...the glory...the mind boggles) ....will I ever be able go back to "bitcoin miner peasant status" if *gasp* BTC goes back down to only $200 bucks a coin..(still a good return from when I started my month of mining at $150..ah Good old BTC days or yore....where you say stuff " the good old days of btc at $150 and you mean 1 month ago*

    5) Is all this BTC up Drama etc weirder then heck? as I write this www.mtgox.com is at $793 USD

    my 2c worth

Thats the one I would get, its the cheapest >1000W PSU in the UK and gets a super high rating at jonnyguru.

    Quote from: jonnyguru

With a total score even higher than the 1kW model, the EVGA G2 1300 watt unit takes everything that is good about little brother and somehow manages to completely obliterate the competition by bringing it to market at an unbeatable price. All things considered, I don't know of any one single power supply at or near this power level that can do the job any better. This... is the power supply to beat at the 1300 watt level right now. It is that damn good. This is the power supply that makes you say, "screw Platinum efficiency, I'm getting an EVGA G2 1300 instead." Heck, I want one, and I already have one.

    The Good:
    • beyond excellent voltage regulation
    • beyond excellent ripple suppression
    • better than 87% efficiency all the way down to the 10% load level
    • fully modular
    • extremely affordable
    • 10 year warranty
    The Bad:
    • nothing at all

    The Mediocre:
    • could use a better manual
    • Capxon on the modular board

What do you do to get your upgrade modules cooled when they have no place to mount?

    Moar pictures:

That is awesome! Interesting to see the mounting holes line up. Is that an intel fit or AMD?

    And what about temps?

    Well done that man! Smiley

I probably shouldn't be counting other people's money, but since he has been bragging about it. I feel sorry for phoneix who spent about $12K(by today's btc value) for one of his nov jupiters. No wonder he is a bit quiet lately.

    You sound upset.
3091  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Best miner for the layman? on: November 18, 2013, 04:34:46 PM
The only people who have made good money on mining since ASICs are the early buyers taking a huge risk.  I hope you're right about this changing as companies become more experienced, the majority of people have not been able to make a positive return.

It does depend how you measure ROI, I purchased my miners with $$ not BTC so I rate my return by $ conversion, with the rise in price in BTC thats helping me.

Yes if I had bought BTC at the time I bought my miner then I'd be better off, however I doubt I would have held my BTC cool while the price was going up, I would have sold when it jumped in the first price rise probably.

Also I think Miners tend to be more likely to hold BTC than speculators, not all but most.
3092  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: November 18, 2013, 04:30:34 PM
Got my new shiny boards and I am currently enjoying a tradional Swedish meal (chicken kebab  Grin) until it's time for the plane.

Nice one! Hopefully you will be really flying when you get them all up and running.

What are you planning on doing with the upgrade modules? Did you get a case or any info on what to use?
3093  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: November 18, 2013, 04:28:45 PM
So if i get it in january. You think it won't even make 4 bitcoins  in one whole year or 0.07BTC per week for 1 year? WTF

If you had zero electricity costs.

Then you would be make aprox $400 in a year if current difficulty levels climb at the same rate as they are currently and BTC is at $800 in January.

But there are so many variables to play with, if difficulty levels drop from 125% per month to 100% per month then your income grows to around $1000 in a year

If the BTC value rises to $1000 per coin then you'r up to $2500 in the year, but if it drops down to $600 again you are not making any money.

You can play with all the numbers in http://mining.thegenesisblock.com/ its not an exact tool and can be used to prove or disprove your purchase decision, but its interesting to see what happens if you plug in the numbers.

Why would you need to produce more boards at the factory if you have an overstock, much more than needed supply of rma boards?? I think this gives a fairly good idea of how few rma boards they have in stock.

Not getting drawn on this point again. It's all there if you read.

Because maybe they aren't the big bad bogemen you make them out to be? Because they didn't include the RMA stock as its important to have around for, oh I dunno, maybe, RMA's?

Just because you have a big negative mental fixation fantasy about them doesn't mean that everyone else has to live your nightmare version of reality.

Case in point: CYPER is going to Stockholm today to pick up his new boards and RMA his faulty ones.

I understand you don't like to be proven wrong, so its ok, I know, for you this will fall on deaf ears.

Cyper's boards were set aside since before the fire sale:

Cyper there are four modules for you as I said, but you're dicking around not sending them! Wink
See? Didn't fall on deaf ears. Now please run along, you made me reply one more time even though I said I wouldn't.

Exactly they kept some aside, for RMA's CYPER's or whoevers it doesn't matter.

Either way, it makes more sense, my experience with them is that they aren't the sort of company to dick around with that sort of stuff, I could be wrong, I'm not infallible, but it makes more sense to me that they wouldn't do what you are guessing they have done and sell all their RMA stock.

Difference between us is that I'm not turning my SPECULATION into fact like you do, I don't know why you do, I don't even want to try and guess what your problem is, but its almost pathological looking at it from the outside.

If you used words like "I am guessing" or "I personally think" or anything that doesn't pretend like you are the only person in the world who REALLY knows whats going on and the rest of us are just deluded fanbois then you wouldn't appear so fixated.
3095  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: November 18, 2013, 04:14:36 PM
Is purchasing a babyjet today assuming i get it in jan make me enough btc to cover the costs of buying it for 2250 + shipping expenses? Not taking into account electricity costs.

Can any experienced miner speculate for me.

If the BTC/$ price stays at around $600 or lower then no. If the price goes to $800 by January then you may make around $150. If it goes up more then you start to make more money.

Obviously if it arrives after January (seems likely) then you are screwed Sad

Biffa, thanks for the summary, quite helpful! What about Avalons, they were the first to ship, gone by now?

Gone and left with a bad taste in may peoples mouths unfortunately. You can buy them second hand but they are really power hungry, noisy and but can push around 80Gh/s

You will notice I didn't mention Butterfly Labs either, but then if you do a little reading you will find out why. Even more dissatisfaction with them, because at least Avalon delivered the first two batches fast and people ROI'ed fast. Butterfly Labs took nearly a year to get deliveries out and they are still playing catch up now.
3099  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: November 18, 2013, 03:30:14 PM

Thank you, but vesperwillow and I are correct:

It was always the case of what volume of RMAs would occur once shipping commenced being an unknown. Also if there was to be any yield issue beyond firmware, so there was in essence a float of modules kept.

Now that's complete, the surpless can be sold as the promised upgrades, and priced fairly.
RMA for batch one is complete! Didn't you know? Everyone's miner is working 100% perfectly now don't you know. Who needs a stock of rma boards? Let's fire sale them and turn 'em into dolla dolla bills y'all!

Speculation and FUD, come on Avenger, selective quoting is so predictable from you.

Why don't you quote just a couple of entries down from the one you did?

What if RMA's are needed in the future?  SOL?

There is a float there as well solely for RMA, that won't be sold.

3100  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Best miner for the layman? on: November 18, 2013, 03:21:20 PM
Already invested in coins long ago, and not interested in hardware as a hobby or making money out of mining. My interest now is in supporting blockchain operation, i.e. controlling some tiny percentage of the total hashing power, to keep the overall coin healthy and have a say in which way blockchain grows and develops.

I would think this is a common wish, surprised that no ASIC maker has taken the role of Apple so to say.

So you basically have a few options.

    • There are no pre-orders for KNC available now - if you want to buy one be prepared to do it via Ebay or the For Sale forums here.
    • Pre-order Cointerra or Hashfast - delivery for current orders is somewhere around Feb, but currently there is alot of worry they will ship current orders in time (if at all)
    • You can buy ASICMiner Blades - 10GH/s per blade, up to 100GH/s per kit (10 blades) but expensive, power hungry and need some advanced knowledge to setup proxys etc to get them to work
    • Bitfury Blades & Kits - Available direct but go in and out of stock fast, but restocked quite quickly from what I have seen. Up to 4-500GH/s per kit, easier to setup that the ASICMiner blades, but still not very "layman" friendly, also quite a bit more expensive than KNC/Cointerra/Hashfast prices, but then they are the only one still shipping

There are various edge players who appear to be real but none seem to be shipping in volume or with much promotion of their product, so its hard to see them as contenders really.

This is just my take on it, having been watching all the players in the Custom Hardware forums for quite a while.
