http://www.betabeat.com/2012/02/13/banking-partners-force-paxum-to-drop-bitcoin-due-to-potential-risk/

Quote
Although Bitcoin is not illegal, Paxum’s partners consider the cryptocurrency “high risk,” Paxum explained. “We simply must cease all business with Bitcoin based on our banking partners/Mastercard etc. We don’t have a choice in the matter I’m afraid,” Ruth Blair, a representative for Paxum, told Betabeat via Skype.

“The main fears had to do with the fact that it’s a decentralized currency and as such there isn’t much control over it,” Paxum said in a statement to Betabeat. “In the end, it is converted to a legal tender (generally USD), but it is unclear to them how this currency is supported and who pours actual money into it, and more importantly, why.”

sometimes i don't understand that either  Tongue

If anarchy, then you can't have formal, central property laws.

But this may work out for a libertarian society anyway.

The more property you have, the more expensive will it be to protect it. In a primitive society, you'd have to have hire soldiers to do so. Once human kind has learnt to be more civilized, there'd be insurances. The more property, the higher the rates. So this might even be a self-regulating process that helps against the rich becoming too rich. Thieves do finally serve a good purpose after all.  Cheesy

frankly, Libertarian utopia is much closer to Brave New World than an RBE. As far as I remember, Brave New World is all about being a consumption slave, keeping the economy going, and numbing one's senses with that Soma drug. Zeitgeist utopia rather reminds me of an Equilibrium scenario if it goes wrong (and it probably will).

Maybe in 200 years from now, people will be vegetarian and will argue the free market didn't/couldn't liberate animals back then.

I am contributing to different open source projects, but so far I've never seen any community slashing down on active members like it is done here.

Bitcoin is money. Money corrupts.  Lips sealed

The book looks great! Unfortunately in the audio interview, the author Paul Rosenberg makes a critical mistake in saying that he thinks bitcoin would be better if it was backed by something physical.  Here is the best article I know of dispelling this myth. http://libertariannews.org/2011/12/01/why-do-people-want-a-gold-standard-when-history-shows-us-it-does-not-last/

yap was a bit disappointed by that then too, i posted too eagerly  Cheesy

Author Interview: Paul Rosenberg on A Lodging of Wayfaring Men

Quote
This Part 1 of an interview with Paul Rosenberg, author of "A Lodging of Wayfaring Men".

Instantly named Freedom Book of The Month and a major influence in the Cyber-underground, A Lodging of Wayfaring Men is the story of freedom-seekers who create an alternative society on the Internet - a virtual society, with no possibility of oversight or control. It grows so fast that governments and "leaders" are terrified, and fight to co-opt this cyber-society before it undermines the power of the governing elite.

In this interview Paul talks about his intellectual development, his influences and the background to writing the book. He discusses the parallels between the novel and recent developments in crypto-currency, such as Bitcoin. He shares his thoughts on the current state of the internet, prospects for liberty and the potential for developing communities of people with shared values.
