3121  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What does Halving actually mean for Beginners? on: May 12, 2020, 06:20:38 AM
Well bitcoin halving is one of the most important and celebrated event in bitcoin community

It simply says that the number of bitcoin created per block is set to decrease by half hence, it is called "halving". If you are going to look at bitcoin source code, in every 210,000 blocks being mined or approximately every 4 years, the incentives received by the miners is decreasing from 50 => 25 => 12.5 => 6.25 (current halving that occured)., so on and fourth until there is no bitcoin left unmined.

Investing in bitcoin is based on your point of view and no one can decide it for you. If I were to be asked, I'll invest in bitcoin because I am for a long term hold regardless of its' price however, since we are dealing with cryptocurrencty expect that is is always volatile whereas it can overshoot or undershoot in terms of its price.

Note: your question is google able!
3122  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How to be invested in Crypto while staying away from gambling? on: May 11, 2020, 09:11:35 AM
Quick suggestion, why don't you invest your money to those gambling sites instead? Like for example, putting your crypto to Yolodice or Bustadice and let it grow passively. Just be sure that you know the risks that you are getting when doing business with them. You can take a loot at this thread where someone invested BTC on two sites and he publicly provided the records of his profit/losses on a weekly basis. Good stuff, if I'm gonna be honest.  Wink

Agreed, this way you can teach yourself a discipline on how to at least control your urge to gamble when you have crypto at your disposal.

There is a similar thread whereas you can check all the investment thread in most of the gambling website.

Take a look in these researches.

https://patents.google.com/patent/US20070232397A1/en
http://www.freepatentsonline.com/5472197.html

I think this is the closest thing you are looking for; a physical controller for an online game. While searching, I just realized that the mechanism of these controllers are complicated and it needs a lot of engineering and knowledge in computer science LOL!

It looks like you need a lot of time to make this project possible.

PS: The research is a long read.

Thanks for recommending my thread! Cheesy

@bystandposter

If you want a step by step and a comprehensive guide without reading too much technicalities, I'd recommend you these resources of 2 notable person in bitcoin space.

[1] https://www.lopp.net/bitcoin-information.html
[2] https://aantonop.com/

If you are looking for something that is located here in bitcointalk, here is big list of comprehensive guide made by the members of this community.

[3] https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4928968.0

I personally recommend you to read the basic which can be found to the links above. Then go for Andreas Antonopolous books "Internet of Money" which presents the philosophical idea of bitcoin. Secondly, go for "Mastering bitcoin", because only the first 2 chapters of the book is intended for non programmers while the rest is for technical and advanced user that knows programming. However, you can still understand the concept if you are going to spend most of your time studying.
3127  Other / Beginners & Help / Questions about node, digital sig and HD wallet on: May 10, 2020, 09:16:21 AM
Greeting everyone,

I am on a research spree with regards to how I am going to take start staking control of my private keys since purchasing a hardware wallet is on my top priority right now. However, I came up with a few questions and some of the guides that I have read makes me confused about the privacy and security of the wallets.

[1]
This guide uses HD-wallets (hierarchical deterministic wallet) with mnemonic seeds (12-24 regular English words). That reduce the risk of fatal mistakes and improves privacy since you don't have to reuse addresses.

If an HD wallet improves the privacy of the user by not reusing the same address overtime why is it that this person has been caught in using hundreds of bitcointalk account even though he is using an HD wallet?

[2]
I wanted to help the bitcoin network to become more decentralized thus, It is obviously required to run my own bitcoin node to help validate my transaction in the bitcoin network while maintaining my privacy. However, Is there any option in running a bitcoin node without consuming a large amount of storage?
Note, the Bitcoin blockchain size is approaching 300 GB. It could take several days to download the whole blockchain. If storage is an issue, you could use “pruned mode”. That way, youŽd discard old transactions and only need to store a few GB of data. You won’t be able to help new nodes connect, but youŽd still validate everything yourself. If youŽre on a limited data plan, downloading 300 GB of data might still be an issue. In that case youŽd have to rely on third parties for validating and broadcasting transactions and can skip this step.

[3]
Do we have any tutorials in verifying the digital signature of a downloaded file in different OS? It looks like I also need to master this one since this is one of the fundamentals needed to ensure that the file we are downloading on the internet is not tampered or does not contain any malicious file. As I see it, this is an important skill to master if you are downloading a cryptocurrency wallet where your funds is involve.

These questions pops up in my mind when I read these resources. This is a must read if you want to become a good bitcoin citizen

3128  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: My record of information about gambling investments. on: May 10, 2020, 07:42:28 AM
Technically, investing in a gambling bankroll is the investment you can't rely on long-term to support your needs. That should be considered as a side investment only alongside your stable investments.
Can you please tell me more about your experiences in investing in an online crypto gambling bankroll? Well, I am reading a lot with regards to this matter because I am planning to invest some of my alts and hoping that it will grow exponentially in the long run. However, why do you say that it's not a good idea to rely on investing for long term even though lots of crypto gambler suggests we can make profit if we invested our coins for a longer period of time?

Hello Maus, I'm actually pretty much stunned that you can do such work on an Android phone and a makeshift stylus. I can't even scribble legible handwriting on my Android, never mind make portraits.

I have something a bit different in mind for you, I'm updating a personal portfolio, and that might take weeks (doing it on weekends) but I might have up to 10 portraits or portraitlike (with figures) photographs I'd like the scribble sketch done, but also I'd really like a rush job for a photo in the next 24 hours I'm willing to pay double for so you can go get yourself the stylus you deserve.

I've PM'd you with details.
Greetings buwaytress,

I just finished the first portrait you have sent to me via telegram and I am still working on progress on the second digital portrait. Expect that I will be sending the High definition copy of the drawing to the email you have sent to me yesterday in the next few hours  Cheesy.

It is also worth to mention that paying in full amount of the commission is very much appreciated  Grin

Edit: the clear copy/ HD digital drawing has been sent to your email. Thank you so much @buwaytress.

Can you please make some review in this thread? I will be more than happy to work with you again soon!

3133  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Question about 51% attack on: May 09, 2020, 06:39:27 AM
when it comes to 51% attack it is always about cost and partly about the reward. the act of reversing a block is not profitable at all, in fact it would cost a lot of money. and it doesn't do anything since the same transactions that were in the confirmed block would either be in the new block or another block after it. it must be accompanied with an actual double spend with an amount equal to the cost of the attack to justify it. such high valued transactions will always demand more than 6 confirmation in which case the cost of the attack grows significantly more.
This is a bit complicated to understand and I've read few articles to understand the concept.

As far as I understood, 51% attack is a scenario wherein a group of miners owns more than 50% of the overall networks' hashing power which gives them the ability to double spend and to prevent the incoming transactions to be confirmed.

But how can attackers benefit from this type of malicious intent if they need to spend more of their resources such as buying high end mining equipment like the Antminer S17 while the global hash rate they need to overcome is currently increasing (more miners)? They'll just suffer a greater financial loss. LOL

Furthermore, if there is an increasing number of miners in the bitcoin network then the possibility of conducting 51% attack is nearly impossible compare to the old days when the bitcoin is starting at an early age where no one is interested in mining.
3134  Economy / Gambling / Re: 🔶 YOLOdice.com 🔶 INVESTING BTC, LTC and DOGE is OPEN NOW on: May 09, 2020, 02:53:12 AM
Hi maus0728, I'm one of the users who watching/playing at YOLOdice for 3+ years. first of all, I'm not kinda super interested in investing in casino bankrolls. always kinda feel like I can multiply coins by rolling dice Cheesy. but I have gone through https://yolodice.com/#stats/investor (especially investment structure ) investment structure shows clearly about how much each investment made a profit so far and how long they been opened and % share in the bankroll. those figures made me more confident about investing. and also I knew a few users who made a decent profit by investing in YOLOdice bankroll in the long run. So far all my coin investments made nice profits just in a week(1.2% in BTC,6.2% in LTC, 4.2% in DOGES).it always feels like I'm rolling dice whenever they go up/down(investments). it's really fun watching the stats going up/down.personally for me weekly anything >= 1% is decent profit.

there is no such thing as a locking/unlocking period. you can anytime invest/divest your coins. the best part about YOLOdice is all the deposits/withdraws are instant :-) and I recommend you to read the investment faq https://yolodice.com/#faq (it covers all investors perspective Q/A)
Hello YOLO_LIFE,

Thank you for sharing your personal experience in investing with YOLOdice. It actually clear some doubts in myself since this is my first time investing in cryptocurrency and a beginner in using one of the top gambling website. Also, this is pretty much exciting because I don't need to worry about withdrawing my funds whenever I feel like to.

I have also read the FAQ section on investing and it pretty much covers all my questions especially the dilution fee which is very common in some of the gambling website I discovered recently.

LOL! the investor stats is very impressive to watch and I can't imagine those big chunks of sites' profit.

Hello!

I just finished creating an account in YoloDice and I am planning also to invest after some readings in the website? Can you please tell me more about your personal experiences in investing? Also, I have one noob question

After you have seen that your investment grows, can you immediately withdraw the funds from the website? or Is there a specific date withdrawal date?

Thank you! I am planning to add my XRP in my account.
3136  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency TV series appearance on: May 08, 2020, 07:14:18 AM
I wish there was a way those of us outside of S Korea could watch it?
Have you tried Netflix? This is the most legal way to watch this kind of series. For more information about the website. Visit this link https://www.netflix.com/ph/. However, Netflix is still not available in the following countries such as China, North Korea and Syria.

I just recently finished the first episode earlier and it is not very surprising if they are going to use crypto as an alternative mode of payment in their shady activity. There are lots of movies that involves crypto in their payment system and most of them portrays crypto specifically bitcoin as a way of getting paid anonymous which I think is very misleading to some extent.

In general, if an average Joe sees that crypto is used in fraudulent activities, they are most likely to perceive crypto as negative. Increasing crypto appearances in commercial/ movies/ series is a good move in making crypto to be seen in public.
3137  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie Asking Wallet Recovery and Lost. on: May 08, 2020, 04:02:00 AM
Can I ask some of the most common issues or problems a newbie might face when they lost access in their bitcoin wallet?

I am visiting Developmental and Technical Discussion frequently nowadays and it seems that the most common problems are as follows;
  • Losing the wallet.dat file
  • Derivation path
  • Losing at least one character in a "private key"

Is there a list of readings where anyone can read about finding some solutions of these issues? Huh

I personally play DICE game since this is the only game that I have found with a simple game mechanics. This is the only game that i played in the long run  because most of the mainstream games requires a lot of skills and practice to become at least a good player. I prefer simple without too much hassle in gameplay.

In contrary, this may be a bit off topic since the games is not included in your poll.

I have created a topic here where in I am searching for a casino or gambling platfrom which offers In-Between or Acey Deucey, also known as Yablon. Unfortuately, most of the people who commented on the topic seems to be also finding this game because they it was not offered by any crypto gambling/casino website. Maybe you can consider this game in your platform.

Here is my thread: Recommended gambling site to play In-Between
I will be more than happy if I can play this online!  Cheesy
