how so? It's a copycat of Mintcoin. This is the MINTCOIN thread. Not really. For one Mint has 70 billion coins, a much higher block reward and 5x longer PoW phase and 20% APY. Compared to 10,000,000,000 coins, 10,000 block reward, 1 week PoW stage and 5% APY for BlackCoin. I look at it like the ratio between gold/silver. Both are valuable, one is much scarcer than the other and therefore much more valuable and the other is more accessible and subject to higher volatility The current price ratio with MINT at 43 and BlackCoin at 1900 sat is 45:1, which interestingly enough is about the historical average price ratio of gold vs silver. Cmon man. This coin came out 2 days after Mint started popping off, and it isn't gold to Mint's silver. Mint will still be adding a lot of coins every year, which is a GOOD thing because people will have a chance to buy in to buy into a coin that will multiply for them at a rate of 20%. Or they could go spend a fortune on your blackcoin (great name  ) and earn 5%. Scarcity does not equal value. Gold is valuable because it's GOLD! It has very unique properties, is indestructible, and is scarce. It doesn't really belong in a discussion about cyrptocoins imo. Value is a function of many components and is subjective depending on the individual circumstance at a given time. If you were in the desert suffering from dehydration, a glass of water would be more valuable to you at that moment than a bar of gold. When speaking of crypto currencies, scarcity is a fundamental component of value, that's why the 42 coin is much more valuable than Bitcoin and Peercoin (which is what MINT is based on) with a total supply of 21,178,392 coin is alot more valuable than MINT. |

what other coins have gone through POW then switched to POS after a certain block, how did they go value whise?
MINT just started the PoS dividend today and the reward halves again staring tomorrow. The price is appreciating and in another two weeks it will essentially be 99.9% PoS (block reward will be 1 coin). A lot of early adopters are already reaping the benefits (20% APY) and may look to diversify between a high yield and high value PoS coin with their earnings, which is why I think we will see a MINT/BLK trading pair develop. Think it will rise up after miners are done? Alot of that has to do with how the dev goes about marketing and promoting the coin. A wordpress website and essentially no dedicated marketing to spread the word will not inspire much confidence in getting people to invest heavily in BLK. MINT has done an excellent job in both aspects. If BLK where to imitate their success, it would definitely present an opportunity for the coin to appreciate significantly from where it's at now. |

The diff has been fluctuating wildly all day. Some big group comes in with 5-7 GH/s every 10 minutes or so, which causes the diff to practically double until they drop back out.

I don't mind an upfront premine as long as the release is fair for everyone. It's better than stating 0% premine and then instamining all the low diff blocks by withholding the wallet or not having any pools setup where everyone can start mining at the same time.
