3121  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Paid for ASIC hosting in the US to avoid EU import VAT. on: December 25, 2012, 02:06:21 AM
what's the point of hosting in a datacenter? you dont need tons of bandwidth, nor do you need 99.99999999% SLA, so why not host it at someone's house?
3122  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin taking up 5.6gb on my computer on: December 22, 2012, 03:21:11 AM
don't use mtgox, because they randomly freeze accounts until you can provide photo id. don't use online wallets either. they are easier to use, but you lose complete control of your bitcoins. it's just better to use electrum.

they can already do it thanks to corrupt banks.
3124  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Core Development Status Report #2 - Discussion on: December 21, 2012, 05:33:34 PM
What's the problem with alternative clients, or online wallets ? Is it only a matter of bitcoin.org redirection ?
I think the Qt version does it's job for more experienced users, no need to rush to compete with lite clients.
online wallets are very vulnerable to admin abuse (see blockchain.info scandal), not to mention the fact they completely kill anonymity.

3127  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I have access to Bitcoin and X children? on: December 20, 2012, 02:01:24 AM
My children (15 and 17) are pretty knowledgeable about bitcoin.  But they know a lot of stuff that other children do not get to learn, like 9-11 being an act of terrorism pulled off by Israel and elements of the U.S. military/industrial/medical establishment.

My son owns bitcoin himself.  He asks for payment in them.
oh boy, here we go. can someone get Occam's razor?
3128  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Interesting Observation - Jr. Members talking about ASIC on: December 18, 2012, 06:31:54 PM
It is pretty obvious that the four people accused of being BFL trolls _all_ have the same habbit of using new lines between their paragraphs.
What a coincidence in the love of special text layouts.

I laugh at your poor propaganda skills while I am rolling on the floor.

edit: typo

really?

what's

wrong

with

new

lines?
3129  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2nd batch of butterfly, btcfgpa, avalon &co will make NO PROFIT and loss their $ on: December 18, 2012, 06:27:55 PM
What do you think?

...it remains to be seen if BTC will break the $14 wall. a lot of your calculations are made in $USD, but many of us bought with lower value BTC, either mined, or like me, bought at about $5 USD. So initial investment is 1/2 of what you are thinking.
not sure if trolling...

you could cancel your preorder right now and double your money. the price of bitcoin at the time you placed the order has no relevance to what your current investment is.
3130  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Is this idea to counter lost bitcoins possible? on: December 17, 2012, 02:17:50 AM
ffs, stop double/triple posting to bump up your thread.
3131  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Aggressive Moderation on: December 16, 2012, 07:50:51 PM
Off topic posts don't normally bother me, unless the person does it deliberately to try to derail the thread. Like this person who was apparently paid to derail threads: http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread826545/pg1
yay, a random conspiracy website!

Appreciate your post, but I really loathe facebook. Care to post an excerpt possibly?

seriously? you hate a site so much that you need someone else to view it for you?

anyways:

3133  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 21 million units divided by 1 billion facebook users on: December 15, 2012, 07:11:33 PM
I used the word "units" because I didn't want to say 'bitcoins' or 'satoshis'.
I was thinking of a facebook currency and making the analogy to the 21 million to be distributed in a very fair way, that is, equally to all facebook users.

dree12 said that
21 million coins X 100 million satoshis per coin = 2.1 quadrillion satoshis
And not 21 quadrillion as grue said.
my bad, must have added an extra zero somewhere Cry

bitcoin-qt.exe -par=4 -connect=178.18.90.41 -dbcche=1536 -logtimestamps -benchmark
AMD Phenom II X4 @ 3.9 GHZ
4 GB RAM

Cpu usage starts off at 2%-25%, then goes down to 1%-5% about half way through block download.
Bitcoin-qt was downloading blocks at 540 kB/s.

3135  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 21 million units divided by 1 billion facebook users on: December 15, 2012, 06:20:26 PM
bitcoins are divisible by 8 digits, so it's really 21 quadrillion units.
