no

TLDR: You cannot mine BTC with such hardware anymore. Look for a Gekkoscience sidehack usb ASIC for 25$ or so.

beat you to it with the quick short answer Grin Grin

At op using a cpu is like using a teaspoon to dig a hole for a foundation to a home.

so the software dropped  support..

a usb stick is the way to learn sidehack's compac is the most powerful.
31302  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Cant get guiminer to work on: March 30, 2016, 02:34:22 AM
no  you can not do that.

you are trying to do a cpu and guiminer stopped support

What batch s7 is that? running at 731 with low err rates and avg 4.8+? What PSU you using? I have not had much luck OC'ing the newer batches. I am only OC'ing batch 1-6 with pretty good results.

Batch 8 using an EVGA 1600.

Can S7s make do with EVGA 1300?

Supposedly they can if you don't OC.

batches 1 to 7 on stock freq

batches 8 to 15 on a down clock to freq  625
31304  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: March 30, 2016, 02:30:34 AM
I gave two away.  I have 34 left.

It would be nice to sell 30 of them for 0.15  which is .005 each
I get edonkey's position of burning them.

But bitmaintech fucked me on that first batch if I were to sell 30 coupons for a total of .15 btc  it would come close to the compensation they owe to me.

I know they paid 67 usd to the bad batch 1 owners on li's hosted group buy in china  as I had one there.

So 30 coupons for 0.15 btc send me a pm .  I do not expect to sell them but it is my only chance to ever get compensation for that batch 1 dud.
31305  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Server Power Supply Interface Board - for standalone miners and GPU rigs on: March 30, 2016, 12:32:47 AM
Cool. Maybe I'll send it with a DPS800 (I've got about a dozen of 'em running around) so you can test out the dual use.

sounds good I will run a thread on those 2
31306  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Server Power Supply Interface Board - for standalone miners and GPU rigs on: March 30, 2016, 12:18:37 AM
Yeah, that's the one.

so I ordered this one today.

I can use one of your boards when you get  chance.   thanks phil
31307  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: March 30, 2016, 12:07:48 AM
I sent Block C a message, I'll update this thread as things develop.
Block C got back to me and good news, they said the Avalon should not be damaged and I can hook up my new psu when I get it and mine on.  They said the connectors on the Avalon are capable of supporting 1000w per side even though they typically only see about 475w.

My new psu will run off 240v, so I should see a minor improvement in efficiency as well.

That is good info and I am happy you will be able to run it well.
31308  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitfury: "16nm... sales to public start shortly" on: March 29, 2016, 10:56:58 PM
I highly doubt Bitfury will disappear for anything like the reasons ASICMiner vanished.

Also, yeah dev chips would be super. Or even just some documentation.
Bitfury has existed for quite a while now, going from ~100nm chips to now apparently 14-16nm. ASICMiner was a shaky thing to begin with, and as of now Bitfury is a serious possible competitior to a company like Bitmain. It's just so odd how there is nearly no data on these chips and no documentation. They might have even never been made.

we saw them demoed on the youtube videos.  I would like to think they were real.

so by never been made I would guess you mean never made in bulk.
yup, and def not sold, otherwise we'd be seeing a spike in hashrate and difficulty skyrocketing to infinity (of course the recent spikes could be these chips being turned off and on but I don't think that's it). These things will happen not now, but when the chips are actively sold and distributed. For now we mine and hope that these new chips will save us..

Something does seem amiss that we haven't seen the hash pop up for these. As far hoping... I'm not making a move until after the halving at this point. I mean what's the point if you have to pay for electricity?

The game has moved to low power cost is king.  And effiencent gear is prince.

I just noticed that one of my Avalon 6s mined a 40,381,314,690 share here today.  Nice, but not nice enough!

I just noticed I hit a nearly 4 trillion share.  Wish the contest was based on share difficulty I think I would have a shot.

that is  one massive  share

31311  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Anyone ever worked out the Electricity Cost alone of Bitcoin Mining??? on: March 29, 2016, 08:34:42 PM
The problem is not how the power is used. The problem is how the power is generated. One tenth of the desert Sahara gets enough sun light to feed the whole world's energy requirement. That is absolutely green power.

How do I move the power from the Sahara to the rest of the world?

Answer is you don't as it would be far too costly.  The grid  cost would be really high to set it up and really high to maintain it.

But it certainly could help people in Africa with their power needs.

the ones above are the closest.

Sadly, it look like my Pick isint all that crazy anymore, eh? Tongue
Hopefully it will remain too high for this round...

damn you VirosaGITS Grin Grin  (all in fun not for real)

yep   it is what we deal with  due to bitmaintech's ability to make tons of gear.  With no real completion at the moment.

Plus I suspect they can get short term  1 cent power contracts during certain times of the year.

Say a dam has a lot of rain in March and April  = Excess power and bitmaintech gets a good 3 week rate.

I feel they could have 100 to 200 ph sitting idol in old gear  and if they get a 1 cent contract they fire the stuff up.

An s-3 burning at .75 watts earns 17.00  usd
An s-4 burning at .70 watts earns  34.50 usd
An s-5 burning at .51 watts earns   40.30 usd

that would be in a month

they may simply have  far more s-7's not deployed

an s-7 makes pretty good money 185 a month at 1 cent power.

So we always face the fact the network may jump up from 1200 ph to 1300 ph in a day

Is this a Bitmain thread :p ...so back on topic...wth is going on with Bitfury? They have added zero hash, and this chip is nowhere to be seen...which makes me think they are having major issues with the production version of the chip/immersion board.

yes good point.  the demos were nice chips then zip nada nothing.

friedcat of asciminer had a good chip demo then poof nothing.

i do hope bitfury comes up with a chip for us to use. send out some development chips
31315  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitfury: "16nm... sales to public start shortly" on: March 29, 2016, 04:00:24 PM
You're saying that from a miner's perspective, not Bitmain's perspective though. Your finances and success are not their finances and success.

Then as a result, their success with this chip has come at the expense of their customers' losses (read: anyone who bought Batch 1-7).  Class acts indeed...

I made money on both my batch 1 and batch 2.

But they still owe me compensation for the Batch 1 which they will never pay.

my accounting on the batch 1 is this.

I purchased the coins from coinbase  so the cash basis was is what matters for those two purchases

1723 + 50 = 1773 for the batch 1

1485 + 50 = 1535 for the batch 2

I sold the batch 1 for 1400  loss of 373  but it mined during the up tick in coin price and earned 1.5 coins at 480 = 640 (I sold them at 480)

so the batch 1 I complain about netted 200 plus usd.

The batch 2 has been mining since October at free power  it has earned 4.5 coins which are worth 1900 or so

But it was how I handled the purchase of them.  I purchased the coins from coinbase.

now some would say if I buy and hold I would be better off.

I say.. I bet a horse named s-7 miner  and have more money now then before the bet.

It is true if I bet the horse named buy n hold the payoff was better.

But my choice did put me ahead. As my fiat is higher then if it just stayed in the bank.

To the guy that did all it all mining his btc  is lower.  He lost out.

So looks like this Period has unfortunately entered a new upward phase. Yesterday was +18.06% with 170 Blocks. Things have calmed down a lot this Morning and the Period to Date Run Rate is, 10 Hours in, +1.36% however there has been a distinct turn up.

Rich

Well looks like an upgrade on the part of bitmaintech.

So if they pull a s-7 at 4.7th off the shelf they are adding lets guess an 8th 1200 watt  s-9.  And off to the races we go.

we are close to the all time highs of 1300ph  see the rectangles below

31317  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: No Mining = End of Bitcoin? on: March 29, 2016, 04:14:08 AM
The network will not be miner less. And run at 1th or less.

I certainly can afford to run an s-7 at freq 200 which is about 1600gh and costs 400 watts a day

That is 10 kwatts a day or 300 kwatts a month at ten cents 30 bucks a month.

I can spend that for the next 30 years easy.  So if I can do that others will to.   So like I said the if the op is asking is not going to happen.

Other tricks can happen but zero hash rate not likely

key word is IF in both statements.

"If Yes"  to be exact in your idea.
