3141  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ETH network hashrate going to the moon!!!! on: July 30, 2018, 03:57:00 PM

i also have 2 1060 on my rigs. And eventhough i knew those cards were better mining Zcash, i stayed away from that. Why? because my investment was to mine ETH. and if ETH failed, i would have left the market and sell my rigs. no doubt. i never trusted other coin than ETH. In fact, i could have built much more rigs for ETH. and i didn't do it. Why? Because first of all i'm not a greedy bastard like many miners here. And 2º because i knew that i was actually harming people that were already mining, and my point was to get enough for me harming those guys the minimum. I entered mining ETH in October 2017

while thats an admirable position to take, and i do understand it (there is a coin i will flat out never mine even if its more profitable simply because i vehemently do not agree with its vision), the bulk of miners are in competition with each other.

but in general if profits are more or less equal i will mine the coin i think is better. and while that may impact the profit of miners who are "true believers" of that coin it increases the security of the coin. so whats good for a coin (increased hash power) may be bad for a miner (increased difficulty). i figure a coins security (ie higher hash rate) has priority over my fellow miners. not that i want them to make less, i just put the coin security 1st. after all if a coin fails due to a low hash rate that allows easy 51% attacks.. well whoever mines that coin has lost anyway.

Are B1tUnl0ck3r and mymenace the same person/bot?

I've ignored both for posting gibberish, eerily similar gibberish now I think about it, so you could well be on to something.

im kinda wondering the same thing myself. both are on ignore at the moment but i click "show post" every so often for the lulz.
3143  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ETH network hashrate going to the moon!!!! on: July 30, 2018, 03:13:13 PM

So now, you have NOTHING TO DO THAN SWITCH TO ETH fucking those that stayed away from your shitty coins and never wanted to enter your shitty market. I actually don't care about your fucking arguments. You, and people like you, are fucking up people like me, switching your fucking cards to mine a coin which was not your main idea in the past. So , you paid off your cards mining whatever shitty coin pro-nvidia you encountered, and now you fuck up people that still want to ROI even having bought cards at half MSRP prices. GTFO PoS.

You, and all nvidia guys should leave ETH. Because you mined your coins, and now you are destroying our coin. Get out of ETH nvidia guys. This is not meant for you. Go away.

mining is for profit. and thats about all it is.. to make profit. whatever the coin or algo. if a coin cant survive massive amounts of hash power sloshing around then it will die off.  survival of the fittest. adapt or die.

sure there are some miners who mine just to support a particular coin but its a pretty small amount compared to "for profit" miner. and thats fine. i have done that myself here and there in the past. but a miner locking themselves to a particular coin has more risks than a "follow the money" miner.

btw i currently have both amd and nvidia cards (and had ASICs in the past), and have mined more or less continually since 2011. and yes my hash, for the most part, has followed whatever algo or coin that made the most profit for whatever gear i was running at that time.
3144  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Do you think it is fair to save merits for high-quality, low-ranked members? on: July 30, 2018, 12:52:23 AM
I think it's fair. Legendary ranked members just have nowhere else to growth, so they do not need to be in merit system at all.

they still need to receive Merits in order to get sMerits to send, just like any other rank.
3145  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8th Alt coin thread. Or what to do now that asics are all over the place. on: July 28, 2018, 10:03:23 PM

yeah early computers were pretty wild, i remember a huge TTY/paper tape terminal my dad had from his military days.

wish there were more pictures. missing was a pic of the hopper you shoveled the coal into  Grin

here is one of my actual  computer shop in while in the navy.

the guy in the photo is one of the DS  it repair techs

this photo is circa 1978  to the right is the card reader
behind him is the computer
to the left  are 2 of 4 tape drives
and  there is a teletype in the foreground

yeah looks familiar, yellow paper and all. paper tape reader was on the side, it was more like a cabinet with the teletype on top. RS-232 interface connected to a TRS80 Model I as a printer. fun times. ill see if there is a photo of it somewhere.

I predict an explosion in ethnic violence at some point across the entire western world, and most people will be taken by complete surprise.

I know plenty of mixed race folks. Who are they going to kill? Themselves?

No, the white half will apologize to their ethnic half for 'white privilege' in order to spare themselves.

and if there is no white part? some sort of order of historic oppressiveness needs to defined.
3148  Other / Off-topic / Re: Who Wants To Prolong Life? on: July 27, 2018, 10:47:22 AM
i would rather a shorter life of excellent health as opposed to long one in a wheelchair, diapers, gtube, oxygen tanks, dialysis etc.

work on fixing health problems 1st, prolong life second.

So: topic swerve.

All y'all may recall I've been looking to Puerto Rico as a means of reducing capital gains taxes owed (I'm 'Merkin). But I've just learned of another (legitimate - according to IRS) potential route out of the system that may be as interesting:

https://www.forbes.com/sites/forbesdigitalcovers/2018/07/17/an-unlikely-group-of-billionaires-and-politicians-has-created-the-most-unbelievable-tax-break-ever/

Anyone interested in forming a study group? Or is there some other subforum here in BCT that might be better for such a discussion?

interesting article. thanks.

so i may have the option of taking tax money that otherwise would be paid to the government and more or less wasted and instead pick my own areas and technologies to invest it in instead. and it helps the little guys. im in. although it sounds too good to be true to be honest. and its new and untested. never had a problem with new and untested things before, as long as i can figure risk/reward ratios fairly well.

Well, not quite. At least I don't think so. Bear in mind I just learned about it yesterday. But rather than being able to redirect your tax money, it is actually the money that you invest through this program is not taxed (for ten years, profits to be tax free, etc...).

But overall looks like a very attractive program. Help bootstrap a needy community of your choice, and get a very favorable tax treatment.

still seems like a good place to park some money for a while, with the chance to actually help the underdogs somewhere. making some money from it helps of course.

not a lot around my area but still. gotta do some more research obviously. gonna mention it to my financial guy next time i seem him.
3151  Other / Serious discussion / Re: 2-Factor Authentication on: July 24, 2018, 02:52:20 PM
I am not worried about the security itself of 2-Factor Authentication.

Rather, what I fear is that,
· Loss of smartphone
· Smartphone model exchange
It is two.

Especially to take a backup, keep it safe. Even though I am doing this, I'm worried about whether it's really okay.

if you mean just a phone backup, it may not be enough, see my post above.

write down the code that google auth initially gives you for the site. keep copies secure. then no worries about the phone dying.

and if phone is lost you can use the stored codes on a new phone (or computer/whatever) and reset them, rendering the codes on the old phone useless.
3152  Other / Serious discussion / Re: 2-Factor Authentication on: July 24, 2018, 12:36:35 PM
Google 2FA work offilne with local data. You loss phone or fail device, you loss. Use Titanium backup to avoid data loss

when i restored a backup of my old dead note 4 to my replacement note 4, google auth didnt transfer although everything else did. i had to re input the google auth codes from paper backups.

it wasnt titanium backup though, i used samsungs backup software. i assume titanium needs a rooted phone? (mine isnt rooted).
3153  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Einstein's theory was challenged by a Sri Lankan scientist.... on: July 24, 2018, 12:29:17 PM
The thread doesn't really make sense. You say that Einstein's theory (which one) was challenged by a Sri Lankan. His theories have been challenged before, so don't see the point of that. And then instead of posting any information about the challenge, you post a video about shipping.

I just saw the video, the Einstein quote is about if you haven't made a great contribution to science by age 30, then you probably never will, and you're taking that as an Einstein theory, with her saying don't let Einstein say you can't. You would had thought she was challenging the theory of relativity. E=mc^2.

yeah, this. Einstein had a lot of theories, but "if you haven't made a great contribution to science by age 30, then you probably never will" isnt a theory, just an off the cuff comment he made, probably in jest.

nothing wrong with challenging Einsteins various theories, thats how science works, and he has had theories proven wrong before, sometimes by himself IIRC.

So last week I got the dreaded "verify your source of funds from cryptocurrency" letter.
I had made some sales in the first quarter and they just got around to asking me now.

I will not name any institutions.
The information I provided was approved, but it really highlights the need for permission-less money. ( Bitcoin )
Proof of mining was acceptable along with some purchase data.

interesting. i cashed out a pretty good sum in one shot (well took a week due to limits) early this year, bank had no problem. even talked to them to say i could come in with proof of source (mining, gpu card receipts, logs to pools, payout data and signed addresses etc). but they never even blinked.

but having proof ahead of time is a good idea. sooner or later someone will ask.

3157  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Acorn M.2 FPGA based GPU Accelerator on: July 18, 2018, 10:07:59 AM
What a useless crap! You better buy another GPU.

feel free to do so.

i am after power efficiency. acorns allow higher hashrate with a slight increase in power consumption. it should extend the useful life of my existing cards.

seems a no brainer to me. but of course we will have to wait and see what actual numbers we get on the various hardware and algos. yes ive sen the charts but i always take those with a grain of salt. my hash numbers and killowatt will tell the real tale.

i have a 101, two 215+ and a 2x nest coming, for a 7 card rig.

He was discussing the topic you and he were discussing in this thread about the entirely arbitrary concept of moderation that @theymos alleges he violated.

so basically Shelby has been banned from discussing his ban, in a forum meant for such a discussion.   Roll Eyes

yacht = taxed at a much higher percentage of its value.

That's a no-go right there. Folks with yachts have the best congresspeople money can buy.

fair point. back to the drawing board...
3160  Other / Meta / Re: Anunymint ban on: July 17, 2018, 04:47:55 PM
so Shelby is banned again.

im not here to argue reasons or whatnot, but anyone who is interested in his take on this can read it here:
