Too much "great project" perhaps

Anyone posting info from their bounty application (usernames, addresses, etc.) or anything alongside the lines of "joined X", "looking forward to getting X", "thanks for the opportunity", "filled out form", "signed up for X", "applied", "following / liked / retweeted X" when such data is not required or the requirement is against the forum's rules risk having their account banned. These are extremely low quality posts generate massive amounts of spam, drowning out any legitimate discussion these threads may posses.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2284374.0

I don't know if users are perma banned for breaking this rule but I wouldn't be surprised and agree with. Rules are not very strict (at least not enough in my opinion). Anyone with common sense and a decent behavior is safe from losing his account

Edit: sorry, I didn't see LoyceV edited his post

I have the same problem. I think my ban was because of IP issues, we cannot access the forum from Turkish IP’s therefore i used VPN several times... I would be so happy if you check the situation... still banned.
Username : sturec

Only a brand new account being registered on a bad IP would be effected by this. Is that what happened?

I'm not sure what you were banned for but it's permanent. Do you have a screenshot of the ban?
Is it normal to permanently ban someone for low quality posts on the first ban?

No, it normally isn't, unless all the posts are extremely spammy or off topic etc. What probably happened is he was given the first ban then they or someone else spotted something like plagiarism and permabanned him. The vast majority of his posts just seem to be 'thanks for the airdrop' type ones, many of which are in threads that have been trashed. I would contact mprep for further clarification as he was possibly the one who issues the ban (both temp and permanent).

I also experienced it. this is the link profile my account is banned My account, there written 7 days. however, until now my account has not returned as well. I admit that I have made a low quality post and I forgot to include the source link in my post. is that a big mistake ??
And this is a screenshot https://imgur.com/a/hJeIKl1

Try contact mperp.

Glad I've moved up a bit. Think I was at 14th and now up to 8th. Another correct score will probably take me into the top 5. I'm not optimistic though. Too hard to predict internationals and without correct scores you get nowhere.

IMO I don't think England will struggle against Belgium, quite the opposite, they'll struggle with their shaky defence against the likes of Kane and Sterling.

Lol. Sterling is shit. He can't put the ball into an open net. All Kane's goals have either been from penalties, 2 foot out, or deflections so far, so I don't think Belgium will have anything to worry about. If Belgium are swapping the team around they might have Kompany back as well. They're both tied on goals both scored and conceded so there's not really much difference between either defences in that respect.
3143  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's FIFA World Cup Pool Discussion Thread on: June 24, 2018, 06:05:26 PM
I also had 2-0 down to England.

Damn, I had 6-0. One silly goal and 350 points turned to 4. Seems like I'm betting on Belgium next leg  Angry
I think England performance seems to be the most stable among all the favorite teams in this world cup tournament at the moment, England vs Belgium will surely be a close and intense match as both of these teams would want to fight for the top spot in Group G.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-cup/2018/06/23/belgium-managerroberto-martinez-ready-restromelu-lukaku-eden/

It seems Belgium seemingly isn't that bothered about grabbing the top spot as they're apparently going to rest Lukaku and Hazzard (though not sure what Lukaku thinks of that seeing as he's in the running for the Golden Boot). Even the strongest England team will probably struggle against a Belgium team missing those two I think.
3144  Other / Meta / Re: Done with this forum on: June 24, 2018, 08:38:53 AM
I lost access to my thigh ranked accounts on bitcointalk.

What is your original account? Did you follow the procedure to recover it?

this forum really is not about making money, but making money is now part of this forum. Actually, it's okay to earn money here as long as you also contributes in discussions pretty well.

I think this is well put. As I've said before, this forum (along with bitcoin) is a victim of its own success and just attracts both the desperate and nefarious. I think it's great that people can a earn here and the money made can actually make a difference to people's lives (I know it has mine), but it's frustrating how it's being exploited by masses of people just crapping up the forum in the laziest and greediest way possible (and it's the campaigns that should be held responsible for this). Whilst this forum isn't about making money, it is a forum about money (and a new type of money) and I don't think we should forget that. Measure should be put in place to try stop the abuses that go on though and I think punishing campaigns that don't do their job would go a long way. I also still think we should introduce paid bitcointalk ranks like Silver and Gold Member that have the same benefit of Seniors and Heroes or whatnot. This would essentially kill account farming and account sales and like the op has already experienced the majority of account sellers are just opportunistic scammers now. Most of them don't even seem to have any accounts for sale and just hope they get someone desperate enough to send them money first. I honestly don't see any negatives about letting users purchase such memberships. The money made could either be used to fund worthwhile projects (I've suggested before a decentralised forum software, a better DDOS-type service or even a bitcointalk seastead/Island) or just give the money to charity. The only people who are going to lose here are account farmers whilst the benefits are numerous.

By the way, you're right about what you've said. Also almost 90% of people here really just registered to earn money as their priority, not even worrying about the quality of posts. But I can assure you that I'm different from those people. I earn money by posting Good post as long as I can make it good.
I  think that percentage is exaggerated.

It's not if you change it to users who now register here or have done over the past five years. I think 90% would then be an understatement. I think people who sign up here now just to earn will dwarf those who actually come here just seeking knowledge or to discuss about bitcoin etc.
3145  Other / Meta / Re: When will the account recovery problem be solved? on: June 24, 2018, 08:20:10 AM
The only way it is going to be solved is if theymos or cyrus start actively restoring them, or somebody else is promoted to Admin or given access to restore accounts. The issue is purely manpower based. Theymos and Cyrus probably don't have time so they're just not getting looked into. Even cases that almost certainty cut and dry are just getting added to the pile which grows bigger every day.

Now both theymos and cyrus just keep getting the same PMs over and over again. That's a waste of their time too.

I've volunteered in the past to help with this issue but didn't get a reply. Nothing else I can do on my end.

I guess this is where the conspiracy theories come from, said conspiracies being that theymos and cyrus take control of some accounts in order to sell them or something along the lines.

If theymos wanted to make more money there are numerous legitimate ways that he could monetise this forum better, but as usual people like to invent conspiracies up because they're always more sexy and exciting. I've personally suggested a few ways to theymos like adding more donator ranks and more advertising slots like at the top of certain sub boards (I think people would pay premium for ones above Bitcoin Discussion and Gambling etc). The current advertising slots are barely noticeable especially when they're drowned out with signatures (and some people have even mistaken them for a signature advertisement before). If theymos wanted more money for himself he could also just pay himself a huge wage but as far as mod payments go even a very active patroller gets more than him currently so it's probably not about money. A while back I did even suggest he pay himself an appropriate wage and do admin duties here full time because one is still badly needed and if there's nobody else he trusts fully then that's probably the only way.

It's been years since we've had people in endless queues waiting to get a message back from either Cyrus or theymos, and none of them answering for some reason, even after sufficient cryptographic proof was presented (typically, a signed bitcoin address).

Here is what I don't understand.... Theymos is intelligent when it comes to programming.  He could easily create a type of account that had limited moderator abilities - specifically  the security rights to unlock an account.  A trusted user (like me) could spend some time to review signed messages and restore accounts, reducing workload.

Any other active staff member could do this as well. I don't think Cyrus' account has full admin-access like theymos' (or root access or whatever).

At the same time, the fact that they are bitcoin whales also make it understandable that they wouldn't spend too much time managing the forum

I've spent almost 300 days online in this forum.  I don't make any money...  Some people do things because they like to do them.

I wouldn't be against a user like you doing it but there are also numerous staff members who could as well. I think you'd get pretty burned out by it quite quickly though if you were doing it purely voluntarily. You would get spammed to death by people and the amounts of accounts that need restoring is probably at least a part-time job right now (and we probably need at least one full time admin anyway to handle all the other issues). If you're happy to spend half of your time on here restoring accounts for fun though, then go for it  Grin.

Unfortunate events can happen to everyone. Even satoshi lost his gmx account and said account got eventually hacked and exploited. It can happen to anyone. Keeping email accounts and forum passes online it's not the same as keeping your private keys offline (which never touch the internet). As soon as something touches the internet there is a % of disaster out of your reach, like a security breach on the email provider's side and so on.

Exactly, there's always a weak point and anyone could be targetted or slip up at some point. Let's not forget that one of the main reasons why people are losing their accounts in the first place is that the forum was hacked and password hashes were leaked. Is this theymos' fault? No, it was the hosting's as they were cleverly exploited, but it shows you that there's always some way that you can get hacked.

Personally, I don't really care who does it as long as they're trusted, but if theymos and cyrus aren't actively going to be doing account restorations then someone else really needs to.
3146  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's FIFA World Cup Pool Discussion Thread on: June 24, 2018, 07:49:27 AM
Germany are jammy bastards. That last goal was a peach. Glad it happened because I want Germany to go through, but I also needed them on my accumulator haha. I really hope Germany can finish top second (or Brazil second in their group) so neither team potentially meet each other before the final (if they get that far).

There's a famous quote by Gary Lineker: "Football is a simple game. Twenty-two men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans always win."

They better remember that quote today!

Bloody hell. I lost both my 1-1 prediction on our FIFA league (would have snagged me 300 points) and my over x4 bet on Sweden to win. I guess you're right about Germany after all. I can probably expect a few of you to have predicted this 2-1.

I had two-zero. I was expecting Germany to give it their all as they badly needed a win and to not mess about.

It's time to establish a new reward like Golden Ball - Steel Ball. And I even know the first winner.

Haha. Call it Balls of Steel.

Now if South Korea were to beat Germany 1-0, and Mexico beats Sweden... that's both teams on equal goals tally and points... who'd go through? Head to head? I'm actually not sure.

It goes down to goal difference then there's other criteria after that if those are both the same. That's why scoring a lot of goals in the tournament is important because it could go down to whether you progress or not.
3147  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin Discussion is not Bitcoin Price Prediction Discussion on: June 22, 2018, 10:11:30 PM
The speculation threads are getting really annoying. Every day there's another handful of threads asking can bitcoin go to x this year?

I've suggested before that there should be warnings or the most commonly broken rules displayed at the top specific to the sub board they're about to post a new topic in. Ie in Bitcoin Discussion: Threads about the value of bitcoin don't belong here but in Speculation. Marketplace: Only bump your thread once every 24 hours etc. People tend not to pay attention to stickies and the more there is of them the less chance they have of reading them.

3148  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's FIFA World Cup Pool Discussion Thread on: June 22, 2018, 01:15:06 PM
^  Ah that explains it.  You already used it for this round of matches.  I think FIFA should call it 'match rounds' instead of 'match days'.

Yeah, that's annoying. Feel like I've wasted it now. Really need to try take advantage of this given how poorly I'm doing.

And yes, I'm aware that ARG is out.  But Messi could still go wild imo.

They're not out yet.

Argentina played shit. There should have been some red cards in that match.

***

Nope. It turns a different colour when you chose it. See below. The last one I was able to choose was the Spain game and it gives you a golden border once you click the Joker hat. Now there's no joker symbol on yesterdays or today's games:

***Screenshot***

What does mean "5 Challengers" on the screenshot? You can see others' choices due to being a creator of our League or it's some another way to collect points, which I don't know about?)

I can only see them after the game (as I'm sure the others can as well). It's only for the five people who accepted my one vs one challenge as well that I accidentally sent out at first instead of the invite to join the group.

3149  Other / Meta / Re: Unique way to cheat the forum- Paid bumping on: June 22, 2018, 10:18:47 AM
Hard to believe people will waste at least six minutes of their time for a mere ten cents  Roll Eyes. Yet another reason why there should be some restrictions on brand new accounts.

I don’t think shadow banning newbies will be very effective in combating this. Users will not necessarily use low level accounts to make these kinds of posts. I have previously suggested that Ann threads with a post within xx time be displayed in a random order, which would effectively make bumping more than once per day pointless.

The ones who are only hearing about bitcointalk through that listing will be using brand new accounts. None of them are going to buy an account to do so. At ten cents per post it's probably only brand new desperados that are even going to bother with it.

but it doesn't rule out the possibility that it could be initiated by the ANN owner itself
need some solid proofs and probably quite hard to find in this case

Not very hard, staff here can contact the webmaster of that micro jobs site and then ask the details of the person posting this job . Then it can be matched with the ANN owner and this can be confirmed. It will take few minutes and help us get rid of a scammer here.

Why don't you waste your time doing that and see how helpful it is. I doubt they'll even reply and the info probably wouldn't be relevant or helpful. All they'll be able to give you at most is the email address or IP they signed up with and I dount they'll have used one that can be tied directly back to their ICO.

Argentina played shit. There should have been some red cards in that match.

I also got the 1-1 correct. I really need to start getting more scores right because it's the only way you can win. You only get a few points for guessing the correct winner whereas you get 200-300 points for getting the score right. If you chose it as a joker you double it as well. Has anyone been able to choose a joker for today's games? It's still not letting me choose any now.

^  I could and already did, maybe you already used yours...?

Anyway, Trofo!  This is the match!  Messi hat trick incoming...  Grin

Nope. It turns a different colour when you chose it. See below. The last one I was able to choose was the Spain game and it gives you a golden border once you click the Joker hat. Now there's no joker symbol on yesterdays or today's games:

3151  Other / Meta / Re: The core of Bitcointalk's spam problem on: June 22, 2018, 09:47:34 AM
We need to give the bounty managers some tools to help them to regulate their spammers.

I think the bounty managers/campaigns are the ones who should be using or developing their own tools to help manage their campaigns better or more efficiently.

It's not tools they lack it is desire. They just want that URL plastered all over bitcointalk.org where Google will see it and give their site a higher ranking as a result.

I'm sure that's true of most managers, but it seems there are a few who are prepared to pay extra for quality posting.

For a shitcampaign there's no difference between someone writing a thesis or bashing their head against the keyboard. Both are still posts that bare their advertisement which is all they want and require at the end of the day. It obviously shouldn't be acceptable for them to pay for people bashing their head on keyboard but until there's repercussions for those that do then nothing will change and campaigns will continue to be lazy and pay for anything.

I still don’t get why ICOs do not get the idea that Brand needs to be built, and is bases upon many pillars, one of which is reputation. Having your brand name tossed around in the hands of spammers is plain silly to do.

They're not trying to build a brand. These ICOs are not here to stay. They're fly by night scammers (or for however long the duration of their ICO lasts). All they want is their ICO to be promoted as fast as possible, take as much money in as possible, then disappear or onto the next scam. Rinse and repeat.

The merit system doesn't really stop spam, it just stops users being able to rank up with spam/poor contributions so most now put more effort into their posts.
If bitcointalk were to introduce a rule whereby only Sr. Members and above were eligible to advertise in their signatures--or better yet, have any signature space at all--you better believe the merit system would stop spam.  That would remove the incentive for people to keep creating new accounts to shitpost with.  They would have no incentive to do so once they figured out they weren't going to earn any merits.

I've suggested this before. I don't think lower ranks should be able to have a signature or at the very least a very minimal one (though there are still campaigns that will pay for those).

Account sales would boom, I'm sure, but that could be managed and I think the problem would burn itself out with time.  Fewer higher-ranked accounts would be created, and some would naturally drop out due to attrition.  Anyway this has been suggested before, but I don't think Theymos wants to do anything so drastic.
Signatures are no longer "en vogue", it's the number of "pushes" for your "ANN".
I don't argue that the latter is true, but I strenuously disagree with the former.

It would still be very difficult for people to farm accounts this way. You'd have to spend a lot of time and effort on each account and there's no guarantees you would every get the required merit. I still think the forum should offer paid Memberships like Copper but Silver and Gold ones etc that give you the same benefits of a Senior and Hero account. You can either offer these ranks alongside being able to rank up naturally or they're the only way you can get a signature.
3152  Other / Off-topic / Re: bounty Advertising does nothing on: June 21, 2018, 03:15:04 PM
The signature campaigns help in spreading awareness, but I agree that 99% of the twitter and facebook campaigns probably do fuck all because 99% of them are just fake profiles adverting to other fake profiles. There will be a small amount of genuine users advertising to their friends and family etc but I'm not sure how many of them will be suckered in to investing if any at all. If know if I saw any of that nonsense on my friends list I'd just remove those people. Either way, when you pay in tokens you've created out of thin air it doesn't matter either way because it's still free advertising at the end of the day for them so they will continue to do it because they've got nothing at all to lose by doing it.

3 boring games today, highlight was definitely Milad Mohammadi's attempt to throw-in vs Spain...did you guys see it? the guy tried to do a front flip or whatever but failed miserably...best moment in the WC so far.

I only wish he had gone through with it and failed epicly. There's been quite a lot of bad/ fowl throws this tournament and the ref hasn't pulled a single one of them up yet.  https://twitter.com/hoeyp18/status/1007653759508500488

As I expected, another boring game from Iran vs Spain, it seems that Iran are still sticking to their same defensive strategy again, while hoping for their opponents to get frustrated and commit mistakes so Iran can punish it, despite Spain dominating the ball possession in the first half, they still can't break through Iran solid defense. I wonder if Spain are able to break Iran down in the second half of the match?

All of yesterdays games were pretty dull and they were all quite lucky to scrape wins especially Spain which was practically an own goal. I was really looking forward to the Spain and Portugal games given how they played each other in the first round but I think they both got too complacent. The tournament is very open right now and I wouldn't put money on any team as it stands. I could even see an underdog winning or going very far.

I missed predicting any results today due to having some internet problems at home. Fortunately, I predicted the correct score for Senegal, and hopefully that's at least saved me a little bit.

Senegal are currently my underdogs of the tournament as they have some real players in the team.

Fill in all your scores now. You can change them all at a later date but at least if you forget or can't put them in for whatever reason then you still have something down.

Can anyone choose a joker match for today's games? The option doesn't seem to be there.
3155  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Forum moderation policy on: June 20, 2018, 02:34:56 PM
Do you want the details? The first thread of some weeks ago was about how the Korean government started using blockchain for their own purposes. I was deeply baffled when I saw it deleted, while value-less new comments about e.g. Satoshi's identity stay.

This is a bitcion forum. If it was a thread merely about blockchain tech used by the Korean government in Bitcoin Discussion then that's probably why it was trashed. Unless it's related to bitcoin then it'll be trashed or moved into the appropriate sub.

And today? I started a thread discussing the new Metronome coin and its unusual sale strategy. I even got replies. What was my sin here? Is a decreasing price sale more meaningless than the n-th post about how great or horrible BTC is without any argument, or often without any grammatical structure? Was my sin the fact that I mention I'll buy some Metronome?

Earnest replies appreciated. I'm a noob on the forum trying to discuss what I deem to be serious questions and points, because this is how I view this whole story. I have some respect for what is going on here, so I'm baffled by my posts seemingly being considered pointless and insulting, while I'm kept in the dark as to why this is so.

Did you post it in Bitcoin Discussion? If so, then discussion about alt coins doesn't belong there. Threads containing ref links or just 'buy this coin' threads are also trashed.

^  Pretty much the same except for a couple matches or so past the KO stages.

You really think Germany can win back to back WC trophies, or it just happened when you were doing your bracket?  Grin

Well they probably won't now if they play like they did verses Mexico. I think I chose Brazil on my other one and would have chose them if I could have edited it before but you couldn't. They haven't done much either.. Spain and Portugal have probably been by far the better teams so far.

I admit, my bracket past the KO stage was based on how I felt at that time.  Lol.  'I pick this and this and this...'.  Cheesy

Well how else are you meant to play it?  Cheesy
3157  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's FIFA World Cup Pool Discussion Thread on: June 20, 2018, 11:39:02 AM
^  Yup.  I got Uruguay and Russia to go thru to the KO stages in that group.

I also had Uruguay and Russia to go through and in that order. I would have probably backed Egypt second had Salah been fit from the start, but even still, home advantage is usually a huge boost and Russia might even finish top of their group right now, but I think Uruguay should finish them off.

And I'm hoping to get more points from the bracket challenge...  Anybody care to share their brackets?

Sure. No harm in that since we can't change it: https://bracketchallenge.fifa.com/bracket/prediction/1c46aa425934ebd72908

Briefly messaged Quickseller last night.

Has has ZERO interest in returning the stolen coins, and is just waiting for everyone to get forget so he can once again claim he has never scammed.  :/

There probably isn't any scam here. Either Quickseller has always been Tradefortress or he just controlled the Tradefortress account at the time of the deal and he just sent the coins to himself just to try shit you up (or he never controlled that address in the first place and TF sent coins to himself).
3159  Other / Meta / Re: I got a banned for like 7 days(january) but till now it haven't gone yet. on: June 20, 2018, 11:22:46 AM
Your account has zero posts. Sometimes when bans are issued a mod can forget to put the duration of the ban in and if that happens then the ban becomes indefinite. In this case you've probably had an initial temp ban then someone has decided to nuke you after for whatever reason. If this is the case then nuked accounts are permanently banned and won't be restored.
That means i got a permanent ban but only got noticed 7 days because a mod forget to extend the duration of the ban? Sounds reasonable Smiley.

No. Read what I said. You probably got a seven day ban initially, then after got a permanent one for whatever reason. Let's say you get a seven day ban for spamming, but then a mod sees you have been copy and pasting and permabans you, then that obviously overrides your initial ban. If it was a mistake then the ban could be removed but since your account has been nuked then that's a permanent ban.
3160  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's FIFA World Cup Pool Discussion Thread on: June 20, 2018, 11:20:11 AM
The ref made a bad decision waving the player to come back on when he did. Gifted them they goal as you could see the Polish defender was obvious to him being there.
How was that a bad decision from the ref?

If anything the whole thing was a bunch of mistakes from Poland: laughable mistake from Krychowiak (horrendous backpass...wtf was he trying to do?), then the oblivious polish defender thought there was no one around so he stopped running, a second later he saw Niang but it was too late, Szczesny realized his teammate was on another dimension so he started running but Niang got to the ball first...in conclusion, correct call from the ref, great reaction from Niang, crucial mistake by Poland for not being aware of what's happening on the pitch.

Yes, Poland made mistakes but the backpass probably wouldn't have happened if they knew there was a player there. He shouldn't have been waived on at such a time. He was off the pitch and out of play and was waived on whilst the ball was in the air and Poland were oblivious which gave Senegal a huge advantage which they unfairly capitalised on. The Senegal player was past the last defender so how are you meant to know about that? He essentially sneaked on.

Russia are looking pretty good in this world cup tournament, I guess the home ground advantage with the home fans cheering for the team really helps to boosts up a lot of confidence for the Russian players, despite Mohamed Salah playing in this match against Russia, Egypt are still unable to overcome the mighty Russian and became the first team to be eliminated from this tournament.

I wouldn't give them too much credit. They've played shit teams and will probably go straight out in the group stage as they'll be facing likely Spain or Portugal. Lets see how they fare against Uruguay in their last game.
