3161  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will not reach $50,000 on: February 15, 2021, 05:49:19 PM
I realized that the market would be more interesting if bitcoin will not reach $50,000 at this bull run.

Just like the last bull run, bitcoin did not reach $20,000 and the price corrected hard.
So I'm thinking maybe it could happen this time and we will call it " bull run over" while watching the price dump.

What do you think ?
Its bloodbath all over the market before touching the $50k after this small correction It will finally reach this level but be very careful from here as for sure a lot of sell pressure will happen and afraid it will be like 2017 that its the final top in this bull market, $50k is imminent and a huge correction -30%-40% after this is also possible so always take profit.
We could easily imply that the $50.000 goal has been reached already, I mean a difference of $400-500 doesn't change much. However, the case here is way different to compare with 2017. Bitcoin is now receiving world-renowned publicity (At a greater scale than 2017) and this current bull run is being backed by corporations and investors who took action by investing millions.

Let's also bear in mind that many other corporations have integrated Bitcoin and Cryptocurrencies in their service in the past year, such as Paypal, Revolut and others that I'm not familiar with.

Moreover, this isn't a bloodbath by any means, the prices have recovered to yesterday's levels already.
3162  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Lost wallet? Help me find out on: February 15, 2021, 04:09:22 PM
I've found a 12 phrase on a text document and another long "word" with random letters. Starts with xc2.....2om, it's 32 characters long. Have no idea what it could actually be.
Anyone of any assistance please? What is this "wallet" file, that 32 character object? Any chances that the 12 word phrase belongs to another coin?

Open the wallet file in hex editor (like hexinator) and post the screenshot of it,  so we can identify with the header what kind of file is that.

Okay, I downloaded Hexinator and opened the file with it. I have no idea what this thing is, posting a screenshot. I hope you can understand what's going on here. Report back if you need me to do anything else with the file.

3163  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Newbie gambling sites on: February 14, 2021, 11:56:19 PM
Pardon me if I'm wrong but I don't see anyone else talking about trustdice, been using it for a while and the games there are actually a lot, definitely good for newbies who are looking forward for comfortability and endless choices of games to play on, not only that but based on my fact checking skills, trustdice is 100% legit, been using it for a while and everything is actually good
I cannot remember if it has been mentioned from anyone else, but, that's a great suggestion! I signed up, and I find it almost if not perfect. I love the layout and the design, it has an integrated faucet, from which you can claim a variety of coins daily. Moreover, you can do a variety of tasks (Daily login, Claim for faucet etc) which offer TXT coins in return.

Not to mention, it also has the Crash game, similar to Bustabit's, which had pissed me off after the multiplier crashed at an extremely low level 5 times in a row.
3164  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: My 1 month testing trade result $500 profit on: February 14, 2021, 11:37:01 PM
Pretty great results! I'd be happy if I made 100 Euros a month by trading, lol. I've been messing around the past few months but didn't have huge success to be honest. It would be a pleasure if you or someone else could post some general advice. Would be nice to hear it from someone who  successful. (At least more successful than me lol)
3165  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Don't trust web wallets, don't trust exchanges, then where to trade? on: February 14, 2021, 09:57:38 PM
So, how do you trade in these cases? Only p2p exchanges? But it's not flexible and you may miss a good time frames where you could profit 1-2% of your balance.
There are literally no restrictions in trading in reputed exchanges and if you think you trust the exchange then you carry on with your usual business. The only advice anyone sensible would give is not to use web wallets or exchanges to hold the coins for the long term as there are many who does the simple mistake of holding the coins for the long term in exchanges for the ease of trade because of the network congestion.
I've used Xapo at one point (2015-16) and BitGo, which until recently had the majority of my coins. I had no issues with BitGo, I was also provided with the private keys on sign-up. Furthermore, I never had any issues with the support or the wallet itself. It's one of the online ones I would totally recommend. It also supports Litecoin and Bitcoin Gold or Cash, don't remember which of the two.

Xapo on the other hand, is lacking support. I haven't used it for years, but when I tried to recover my account, their support was unhelpful. It's been over 10 days and still haven't managed to recover it.
3166  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can we get another golden oppurtunity to buy? on: February 14, 2021, 06:31:10 PM
I think that the OP is referring to a larger scale of corrections, which isn't happening anymore, especially after the recent Tesla/Elon Musk incident. If we take a look at the following graph, we won't see any major corrections. The prices had crashed only to a small percent, such as 4-5% at most.

The following graph is exported from Coinmarketcap, for the last 3 months. If we observe it, we'll notice that there are only few corrections, and we won't notice crashes of large extent. I don't think we'll see any major ones in the near future.

3167  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid-19, Lockdown and repercussions on: February 14, 2021, 04:57:08 PM
Any vaccine is dangerous to do if a person has chronic diseases. Most people in Russia over 55 have chronic diseases, so no one can predict side effects.
Before the vaccination, you sign a special agreement, and if something happens to you after the vaccination, then the medical institution that gave you the vaccine will not be responsible for this.
As far as I know, children are not given the vaccine. Friends were sick with coronavirus, and their children had symptoms of mild colds.
Maybe it's good that there is no vaccine in your country, because it has not yet been tested.

But something needs to be done against COVID 19, right? From your own data (that you posted previously), there have been close to 400,000 excess deaths in the past 5-6 months. This is a huge number, especially for a country such as Russia where the population decline was underway even before the pandemic started spreading. Apart from vaccination, what are the other options?

The Sputnik V clinical trial data is published in Lancet, which happens to be one of the most reputed medical journals out there. It shows that the vaccine has a 92% efficacy against the virus. That means if the people were vaccinated from the start, then more than 360,000 deaths could have been prevented just in Russia. So as long as we don't have reports of large number of people dying as a result of vaccination, I am not going to argue against it.
I couldn't agree more, no kind of medicine can stop or ease the transition, only alleviate symptoms and/or decrease mortality. Our only key here is vaccination. Sputnik's clinical trial data are encouraging, and so are of the other vaccines of Pfizer and AstraZeneca. We should also expect more vaccines to be released by Johnson & Johnson, Sinovac and others. Thus, it is extremely likely that it will solve issues with the high demand we're experiencing currently.
3168  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If BTC were to permanently freeze at one price , would you buy ? on: February 14, 2021, 01:54:40 PM
I don't really see a point in why someone would buy. Most people use Bitcoin or Cryptocurrencies as an investment. Thus, there won't be any reason anymore. Of course, this isn't going to happen, but that's another story.

Some might use it for anonymity, gambling or buying illegal goods from Dark net markets. However, there are other coins which also offer that, plus pure anonymity, since Bitcoin is Pseudonymous, not anonymous.
3169  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid-19, Lockdown and repercussions on: February 14, 2021, 12:55:44 PM

A friend of mine was vaccinated against Sputnik-V coronavirus.

According to him, this is a difficult test for the body.  The vaccine is perceived as a foreign substance.  For two or three days his arm was very sore.  He was drenched in sweat.  However, then these symptoms disappeared.  For this, the second injection is much worse tolerated by the vaccinated than the first.

Many Russians are skeptical about the use of the vaccine.

This applies not only to Sputnik-V, but in general to any vaccine developed in the world.

I see. So, the vaccine had an immediate short term side effect.
We, in our country has not have the vaccine yet. But do they run an allergy test before injecting the vaccine into your body?
Or that's a normal reaction your friend have experienced after taking the vaccine? And, is taking the vaccines compulsory in your country?
I'm sorry If I'm asking these questions, Im just a bit worried about it's short and long term effect to a human body especially with senior citizens and children.

Currently, there is no compulsory vaccination in Russia.  Most likely, there will be no compulsory vaccination in Russia.  This is due to political protests and demonstrations.  The authorities are afraid of popular discontent.

The official version of the authorities is that the coronavirus epidemic in Russia is waning.  According to my observations, people are now very sick.

I don't know what people get sick - colds and flu or coronavirus.  The end of winter - the beginning of spring is the peak of viral and respiratory diseases.

In Russia (as far as I know), patients are not tested for allergies and antibodies before vaccination.  Moreover, the presence of antibodies is a contraindication to the administration of the vaccine.  Putin said he would be vaccinated closer to autumn.  This is a smart approach.

Vaccination campaigns cannot be carried out during an epidemic.  This has not been done before.  In the fight against the pandemic, unfortunately, the main role is played by officials, and not professional doctors - virologists.

I understand, I am not against vaccinations by any means, the faster the population gets vaccinated, the quicker we'll return to some kind of normalcy.
However, at least here and most European Countries, it is advised to not get vaccinated if you're experiencing severe allergies. We haven't had any severe cases here so far.

If I am not mistaken, the Sputnik vaccine is not an mRNA one like those from Pfizer or AstraZenera, those that we have in Europe. Am I right?

And as I was saying yesterday, BTC ATH and keeps climbing. Doge not going anywhere. Time to put in some big investments?
Do you mean put big investment on Doge investment? IMO this is not the best time to invest since DOGE still around $0.07+, while it was even below than $0.01. I also waiting DOGE falling down and back to it price before make some investment
Supporting this , Doge is not a good and impressive coin to invest now as it was already in bullying stage and might also in the last wave and in any moment will fall down again.

I will choose staying in Bitcoin instead or at least may risk in other coins.

I don't think this is the appropriate thread to be talking about investments here, but I will stand by you here. Doge is a troll/meme coin and was created purely for entertainment, it's not really meant for investments. Of course, you can make money out of it, but its environment is quite risky. I mean, it serves no real purpose and currently, it was immensely by Musk and Reddit trolls.
Why it's not appropriate talking investment on here? Bitvest is accepting investment from investor, so i don't think it's not appropriate. We are talking about about best time to invest Doge on bitvest, and that's why i told people to wait a bit before jump to market, buy doge but after few weeks/months later, doge get dump and as the result, your investment value has dropped a lot
Yeah, you're right. Hadn't really thought it that way. I was more generally speaking about Doge, but I get your point. However, my point still remains, Dogecoin looks/is quite risky as a coin. Can it be profitable? Definitely, but also risky, riskier than other coins at least.

I'll show you what's going on in Russia.
The red line on the graph is mortality in Russia for 2020 from January to November)
The blue line on the graph is the death rate in Russia for 2019 from January to November)

The increase in mortality in 2020 compared to 2019 was 339 640 people.

Lockdowns only in large cities, In other cities there is no control, the necessary medical care, doctors and all hospitals are overcrowded. So if a person gets sick, then that will be his problem.
There was a lockdown in my city, but only documented for the report. In practice, no one forces you to stay at home.

How are the vaccinations going there in Russia? You have your own vaccine, Sputnik, and your own production line. You're pretty much independent in that sector. It's a shame that European Countries haven't co-operated with Russia to accommodate the high demand in vaccines. So far, the EU has contracted with pharmaceutical companies (Pfizer, AstraZeneca) that were unable to supply the increased demand.

3173  Economy / Speculation / Re: Cash out or HODL - Bitcoin? on: February 13, 2021, 12:36:04 PM
You might cash out if you want urgent needs but holders always gain more. When I say holder, I don't mean months but years. blockchain is still at the infant stage, adoption is still very low and has a promising future.

I was selling my bitcoins at the beginning of this cycle starting at 25K... And regretted it! Some of it I had to buy back at a higher price... But I'm still hoping that the price will go down to 20K and I can buy the rest! You are correct in saying that HOLD is the best strategy! Wink
I also did the same, first at 25.000 (Euros though not USD), sold almost 1/3 of what I owned. Needless to say how much I regret doing that. Likewise, I also sold at 35.000 Euros hoping to fall, so I could buy more Bitcoin in return. Then Elon Musk/Tesla happened. You can easily guess that it didn't really go according to plan.
3174  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I messed up and feel terrible about it on: February 13, 2021, 11:59:50 AM
After reading your replies, I've come to the conclusion that we've all made mistakes, some are petty ones while others were definitely more serious ones.

In my occasion, I managed to reverse my mistake by buying shortly after a price crash and bought them back at the same price I had bought them for. As a result I had 0 loss. Likewise, I then proceeded and sold this amount of Bitcoin at 40.000 Euros, and at the same time buying them back after a short crash.

The result was recouping back my Bitcoin, plus a small profit for my inconvenience. This was definitely a lesson to be more careful on the future trades.

Glad you have regain your position of your hold,  that was definitely a close one, the reason why I don't try to take such risk especially with btc, this happens often to most of us, thinking you can quickly flipp and buy back with small profit but you will find yourself struggling to buy back with same price because the price shoot up instead of dipping, lol.
My thoughts exactly. I'm actually trying both to trade and hold, while also thinking that I can keep buying/selling back and forth making profit that way and at the same time maintaining my Bitcoin amount. I don't know in what degree I will continue doing that however, this incident was a lesson that it might not always work out, this time I got away with it, but it won't always be like that.

Likewise, I might continue buying and selling, but at the same time being way more cautious. Moreover, I will definitely try and accumulate as much Bitcoin as I can and hold that for the future.
3175  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Don't trust web wallets, don't trust exchanges, then where to trade? on: February 12, 2021, 08:06:44 PM

if you keep trading every day, you are bound to just let your coins stay on the exchange for as long as you want to trade. its cost if you send back and forth the coins to your wallet to exchange wallet every time. but limit something like $2000 only on the exchange, from there you can keep trading and you won't be crying for mercy when the hacker got your money.

an alternative solution is to just use the hybrid wallets that you can use to connect to exchanges and trade from there. you got your coins on your wallet where yo own the private keys and then you can also trade safely/.

Massive hacks in exchanges aren't the most common thing (not an isolated incident though), especially the most known ones, such as Kraken or Bitstamp, and many more. I understand that it is a worrisome event, if it ever happens. Many incidents have also happened due to compromised accounts from database leaks in various sites, setting up a 2FA and different passwords is considered vital.

Here's an article about the most major Cryptocurrency Exchanges' hacks. Let's hope that they've learned from their mistakes and these kind of incidents don't happen again.

Great replies from all of you, read every single one of them. It would be great if you we could also take notes of the country you live.

Currently, I'm temporarily suspended from work, thus I have to stay at home most of the day. It really sucks, because other EU countries have imposed far better response measures. Here, the government is doing the exact opposite, instead of announcing measures to increase the health's system capacity, or a more effective vaccination program, they impose measures that have been proved to not be effective, while hurting the economy even further.

Not only that, the prime minister Mitsotakis and the other members of the parliament (Of his party of course), are dining in Ikaria in broad daylight, open for everyone to see. If I did that, I'd have to pay an enormous fine instead. We only hear excuses for their actions while at the same time they are provoking their own citizens.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/feb/07/greek-prime-minister-criticised-for-lunch-with-up-to-40-people

We also have a one-month lockdown and since we are living in a depressed area we got our relief goods coming from the government this is to prevent people from going out, it's really depressing in our areas because three families are cramming in a 50 sqm meter house it's really is depressing, but we need to heed the call of our government to protect ourselves, we have to take it whether we like it or not.
One month? Well, I wouldn't really complain, we're closed since the start  of November. That's 5 months.
My thoughts exactly, the results of the protective measures (Quarantine, limited mobility and so on) along with the vaccination and the rise in temperature that is coming in the following months will relieve the population and the health sector. I believe that things will do get better after March or April, however, is the same thing going to happen the next winter?

My guess would be probably not, due to the vaccination and the acquired immunity, but measures will probably be taken then too.

What is still insufficiently researched is how long the immunity of a person who has survived the virus lasts - and also how long a particular vaccine gives someone immunity. Therefore, it is possible that people will have to be vaccinated every year, as is the case with the flu - and that wearing protective masks and disinfecting will be something that will be needed for years to come. Now there are 2 big problems, insufficient doses of vaccine for everyone, and a few very dangerous mutations of the virus for which again it is not possible to prove at the moment that the current vaccines work.

The fact is that people have to learn to deal with reality - those who reject it and want everything to be as before live in one big misconception that humans are superior beings on this planet, and in fact it is a virus invisible to the human eye that has turned the world upside down.
Correct, there is not enough research yet, but I do hope that the rising temperatures help this condition. Moreover, vaccinations here are moving on a very slow pace.

Thought I'd chip in with my kraken feedback everyone knows I love kraken....

Good customer service but... when you need to use the platform the most it ALWAYS has serious downtime and you can not get in, happens every time there is a pump somewhere... It is beyond frustrating so much so I have moved to other exchanges. It's not good enough coming form a company who say they are the best around... I think it's ran on dial up.

Also be careful of how you use it, I bought a coin for MARKET VALUE 16.20 the other day, they charged me 16.50.... That shit adds up! They told me it was a spread to keep me safe.... Yeah ok..

I would use them as back up only if I was you.

Also AVOID COINBASE, their customer service is shocking... I waited 5 days for a reply, and they just sent an automated bot response... truly shocking.... still not got an answer here!!!!
You cannot imagine how much I can relate with everything you said.
In the first occassion, Kraken, is constantly experiencing downtime which is infuriating when you're trading. The moment you press Buy/Sell, the damned thing crashes and times out. This is the main reason I withdrew all my money and moved to Bitstamp. Moreover, I didn't really fancy the layout/design, never had any issue with the support or the verification though.

On the other side, Coinbase, has the slowest support I've ever seen. After some research, we found an account (With a completed Bitcoin deposit at some point) in my girlfriend's email (You never know someone well enough it seems, lol). She didn't remember the password, so we tried resetting it to no avail. The reset email wouldn't go through.

We contacted their support, after a few hours we received an email, and you guess right, it was an automated response telling me to try resetting the password by the reset field. You don't say?! Like I didn't try that already. It also mentioned that if we're trying to recover the password via a non-authorized device, the email wouldn't go through. Okay, but I already told you that, why am I receiving an automated response for something I have already explained?

It's almost a week and have received no response.

Bitstamp requires SSN! What if they get hacked? I do not want my SSN anywhere!
This is highly unlikely, all reputable exchanges ask for verification. It makes sense, you can't be buying cryptocurrency with a card if you haven't verified your ID. How do they know that this card is yours, they need to know your details, or they will get screwed if someone was planning to deal with stolen credit cards. Same goes for withdrawals and deposits to bank accounts.

How would you know that those individuals won't share your information online at any time? They could be laughing about your face in your ID with their friends, just kidding. However, supposing that Bitstamp gets hacked, which as I said, is highly unlikely, the least I'd care would be my ID leaked. I think my balance is way more important. Moreover, I don't think that such info is easily obtained, even if it gets hacked.

Bitstamp was the only one to ask for SSN. Others wanted privacy-invasion verifications, but not one so flagrant as to require SSN. Which they say they are "required to collect" - NOT TRUE in fact it's illegal to require to collect SSN for ANY service (even though US banks require SSN, the practice is actually illegal per US law. They just have too much power, so without suing them and finding a judge who isn't bought and paid for, then you won't win either, not to mention the bank would not make life easy for you if you put them through that. Utility providers often say they require it. But when you insist no you won't give it and talk to someone higher up until you find someone high enough, they admit, "no you don't need it we just input 0000" - it isn't without a hassle, but it is actually illegal to demand it for any public utility).

NEVER!! give your SSN ANYWHERE. Except banks if you want to actually bank anywhere - but not because it is required, but because banks have too much power and it's a lot of hassle to sue a bank for breaking the law.

Don't give it to doctors, apartments, utilities, no one. It's worth the hassle to protect your privacy.
For doctors, just write N/A. For apartments, you might have no choice because they might not rent to you, and your alternative is to not rent there. Utilities, never give it to them, and be prepared for a fight, just keep asking for the higher ups, if they don't give it to you hang up and demand the next rep transfer to supervisor. May take a few times. You may have to pay a deposit. Worth it IMO.
Snap, you're talking about SSN (Social Security Number) sorry, I was thinking of ID verification when you mentioned SSN, I am not familiar with foreign acronyms. However, I don't recall submitting anything rather than my driver's license on Bitstamp.
