I do, I've successfully recovered both wallets (Electrum and Metamask) and they are up and running on another computer.

Just confirming, did you only enter the seed phrase or also move the coin to newly generated wallet? If you did the former and the technician have malicious intent, he/she/they still could steal the coin.

Even if data loss is presented, both wallets are fine, however, my only concern would be the technician to snoop through my files, which may sound too paranoid (or not, you never know).

Without knowing technician history or license, your concern is normal.
I only recovered my wallets through the 12 word seed phrase. I haven't moved my funds to a new wallet.
I personally don't sell my old cell phones or computers, I don't even throw them in the trash - not only to prevent anyone from getting any data, but also because one day all these old devices will be a good reminder of how technology has evolved over time. In case someone still wants to sell an old computer, I wouldn't risk deleting the files - just take out the HDD/SSD and sell it that way.

I would just in case transfer everything to new wallets, no matter how much you believe or not that person who did the diagnostics on your computer. Although we all think that such people keep their reputation and will not do anything bad that would endanger it, sometimes it is hard to resist not peeking into other people's secrets if you already have the opportunity.
Yeah, I'll move everything to new wallets just in case, you can never be safe enough. On top of that, if we suppose that he has snooped through my files, he could potentially try to compromise the wallets at a much later date. That way, no accusation can actually be directed to him.
2382  Economy / Economics / Re: Inflation & Supply Chain Issues-How bad is it going to get?! on: October 28, 2021, 08:25:58 AM
Hasn't the increased demand pushed to a larger production, or is there a wider supply chain issue causing it?
In order to produce more, you need more machines, in order to get more machines, the manufacturer needs more materials, to get more material you need more machines to process them. this is not a thing that can be overcome in a few months.
n
I see, haven't realized that it's not that simple. As I've mentioned on another post, it's a vicious cycle. It's just astonishing that I've been looking for some specific parts since the start of the pandemic and I still cannot find them. From what I've read, manufacturers are rushing into producing parts that are to be placed on bicycles, and aren't aimed to be sold in retail, which is aiming in the satisfaction of the increased demand in bicycles, rather than its parts.

Could potentially explain why I'm having trouble finding specific parts, some of which are on bicycles currently being sold, but not in any kind of store I've searched.
2383  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Recovering deleted wallet/files from HDD on: October 27, 2021, 10:08:58 PM
I'll try not to be paranoid about it.
For what it's worth: I do try to be paranoid about my Bitcoin security. As they say: "Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't after you."
I can definitely see why. On top of that, I wasn't exactly sure on where I had backed up my Metamask wallet, and until I found my seed phrase, I almost collapsed to the thought of losing my funds. Since it's based on Chrome, I'll have to physically boot the HDD in order to run Chrome and export the private keys/seed phrase. All thoughts crossed to my mind, from a corrupted HDD, to a stuck BIOS etc., it haunted me.

So you have a backup seed phrase or not? If you do, I recommend restoring your wallet on a new device and moving your coins as soon as possible to a new wallet. Unless your wallet is password protected, your funds are not safe even from your technician (I'm not saying to doubt a man, I'm just saying he's not responsible for your data).

Is there an actual way to permanently delete such files from the HDD, forever?
You could just sell him your laptop without HDD, just open it and remove the drive yourself, that would be the safest way and nobody would be able get your keys.

Other option is to fully format your hard drive, but since your laptop is still at technician I would move all your coins to new addresses that you fully control, without any connection with keys on that laptop.
I'll get it back on Friday, if everything goes according to plan, if it's working fine, I might sell it without the HDD, it will also save me the time to back up my files and overwrite it.
2385  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Recovering deleted wallet/files from HDD on: October 27, 2021, 04:55:46 PM
Firstly, I'd like to thank you for your replies, they mean a lot to me.

Took it to a technician who claims that it's power unit or something is broken and it's not receiving power.
Depending on the laptop this could be a cheap part to replace.
It's relatively cheap to replace, about €60 for both the replacement part and the labor. It's a refurbished laptop, not of too much value, but gets the job done.

While I wouldn't really bother about the rest of my files, I'd rather not have someone recovering my wallets this way.
How about passwords? Creating a new wallet and moving all your coins is quite easy, but your browser might have access to many accounts too.
That's right, that's something I forgot about, but the most important thing there is my wallets, therefore, I completely forgot about anything else but them.

Is there an actual way to permanently delete such files from the HDD, forever?
There's a software shred and there's the hardware shredder.
I would prefer not to trust anyone with my data, so I would have removed the drive before sending the laptop to a repair guy.
Stupid of me for not thinking it earlier, tomorrow is not a working day here and pretty much rushed to get it somewhere to get it fixed, since I used it for most of my daily and work stuff. He's a quite known and reputable guy, so I believe nothing will be done in the first place, I'll try not to be paranoid about it. Definitely took my lesson in case something like this ever happens again.

If I'm to sell it, I'll either replace the HDD with an old one I have here or use one of the recommended software to overwrite the files.
2386  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Recovering deleted wallet/files from HDD on: October 27, 2021, 01:11:31 PM
Not sure on where to post this, I apologize in advance if this isn't the correct section.

My laptop broke down this morning, taking my Bitcoin and Metamask wallet with it. Fortunately, I had both backed up so no losses there. Took it to a technician who claims that it's power unit or something is broken and it's not receiving power.

Anyway, back to the subject now, he's interested in purchasing it in case I do not want repair it, which is something I'm considering. However, my wallets are inside that laptop, someone who specializes in computers could potentially recover deleted files from the HDD.

I'm not sure if he wants to resell the laptop or he wants it for himself, my main concern though is that there's a way to recover deleted data. While I wouldn't really bother about the rest of my files, I'd rather not have someone recovering my wallets this way.

Is there an actual way to permanently delete such files from the HDD, forever?
2387  Economy / Economics / Re: Inflation & Supply Chain Issues-How bad is it going to get?! on: October 26, 2021, 07:21:35 PM
I'd also like to note, despite not seeing any shortages or supply issues on most daily goods, I've faced multiple shortage issues when it comes to bicycle parts. I'm not sure what's exactly the case, my best guess would be the current supply can't keep up with the increased demand. However, this situation has been going on since the pandemic started.

Hasn't the increased demand pushed to a larger production, or is there a wider supply chain issue causing it?
2388  Economy / Economics / Re: Permanent inflation or "just temporary" on: October 25, 2021, 09:34:41 AM
Well I definitely agree on what you're saying, it was inevitable when economies were practically shut down for more than a year. This year's tourism season for instance was great, last year's though was pretty awful for Greece, a country which almost solely depends on it.

The issue is that all goods have increased in price, so has fuel and electricity, while the average available income due to these increases has dramatically decreased.
In many countries, tourism didn't really great. Mostly were stopped and shut down, flights were stopped and only available for the most important industries and logistic matters.

A lot of countries that were dependent on the tourism industry have almost died with that sector.

But the good thing about this year, everything has started to recover. Many country's economies have been slowly recovering but inflation cannot be stopped.
That's my main concern, how is inflation stopping? Okay, tourism was pretty decent this year, especially on Crete island, where I live. I'm not sure about the rest of European countries though.

Things have started getting out of hand, it was pretty usual for prices rising in the summer, since the demand is dramatically increased, however, the season is almost over, with prices being higher than they were in July-August.
2389  Economy / Economics / Re: A way to make money online? on: October 25, 2021, 06:53:24 AM
Cryptocurrency is one of the fastest ways to make money online. Some people have become Dollar millionaires by investing in Bitcoin, Ethereum and other cryptocurrencies. They were early to admit Bitcoin from the moment it appeared and the price was very cheap.
Making money online by trading coins and investing for cryptocurrencies is a fast, attractive but also risky method of making money.
To start with the form of making money with Trade coin, trading cryptocurrencies, you must have solid knowledge and good psychology when participating in the market.
Cryptocurrencies may not be as profitable as they used to be, but we can still make money from them in 2021.

Since when is cryptocurrency the fastest way to earn money? How did you come to that conclusion? If that's so, gambling could also be a quick way to double your money on the spot. Crypto isn't that simple, and first of all, requires some sort of capital to make a successful investment, not to mention the research you'll have to conduct before proceeding.

Cryptocurrency might be one of the top choices when it comes to investing, however, there's no such thing as a quick ROI.
2390  Economy / Speculation / Re: Elon Musk Sees Bitcoin Price Reaching $69,000 on: October 24, 2021, 08:20:26 PM
Can we please stop caring about what Elon Musks says?
Well, that's not likely going to stop anytime soon considering the fact that Elon Musk is the current richest man on earth. Rich people command great followership. It was a similar trend we had with John McAfee, now deceased. Whether we like it or not, Elon is still influential in the scheme of things as a crypto investor.

I'm sure that if Elon Musk tweeted "gold will reach $100,000" gold wouldn't move by even 1%
This is hypothetical. We can't really say for sure until a situation arises that can prove otherwise in that sector. However, I'm cocksure that when whales buy or sell any product the market reacts to it either way – rise or fall. Any volatile asset will react to Elon's tweets on price. 1% is infinitesimal.
Not only is he the richest man in the world, but also a great influencer, he's a leader. No wonder why though, despite his wealth, he is one of the most successful and innovative people I've seen, while being persistent on what he does. Let's keep in mind how many failures SpaceX had before making a successful launch.

I'm not really bothered by his messing around on Twitter, Bitcoin isn't that affected by it anyway, it's not Dogecoin nor Shiba Inu.
2391  Economy / Speculation / Re: New All Time High Baby! - $66,974.77 on: October 24, 2021, 03:56:24 PM
looks like the Dive has gone and now recovery is starting ? seeing it back to almost 62k from the hard drop down to 60k is a good sign that we are now heading to another ATH in which 70k , this is the barricade need to be broken for Bitcoin price taking another hype to 80k.
if continues to grow then Yes 100k is not far from happening this year alone of 2021.
I wouldn't get so excited, don't get me wrong, I'm all about Bitcoin surpassing new records etc, however, on the other hand, I prefer to be moderate about Bitcoin breaking records so quick. Similarly to a few months ago, when a new all-time high was reached, shortly after the Elon Musk incident, the new record didn't last long and quickly plummeted down to $30,000.

Yes we did plummet to $28k but then recovered in the next two and 1/2 months and getting to a new all time high. So. I wouldn't call that moderate recovery, it was very quick and fast bounce back.

Price volatility is expected, however, it's more preferable to seek a steadier growth, rather than anticipate a quick new all time high.

Definitely, but if you look at it, if in the next two and 1/2 months we might see bitcoin hitting at least $150k based on it's previous run. So I think everyone is really getting excited about it. Maybe this December or early January 2022 rally.
It's not something that is easily predicted though, is it? Yes, we can depend on previous incidents and price charts, however, how accurate are they? Just because it recovered relatively quick doesn't necessarily mean that it will continue the upward trend.

Don't get me wrong, I 99% positive that Bitcoin will gain value in the future and even surpass $100k, I'm being hesitant on if that happens in the near future (Less than a year).
2392  Economy / Speculation / Re: New all time high record | $66,000 on: October 24, 2021, 01:00:56 PM
A new all-time high record has been hit, with Bitcoin surpassing $66.000. An outstanding performance which was a result of the announcement of Bitcoin ETF approval, which I've yet to understand what exactly it is.

Definition according to https://mg.co.za/

"An Exchange Traded Fund or ETF is a type of investment fund that tracks the price of another asset or basket of assets and can be traded on an exchange. If that still sounds like finance nerd language to you, that’s because it is."

https://mg.co.za/special-reports/2021-10-19-a-bitcoin-etf-what-does-it-all-mean/

Anyway, it was something quite unexpected and didn't actually believe that we'll see a new record by at least December. Let time do the work.

in this year Bitcoin has reached 2 times its highest price which is only a few months apart it is very extraordinary, it is very possible that we will again see a new high price of Bitcoin in the near future and speculation of many people about the price of bitcoin which will reach 100k may be happening soon.
That's true indeed, I also find it extremely likely that another all-time high is possible, I'd expect another one towards the end of the year. On the other hand, its price is steadily over $60,000, but I'm not quite sure if it's going to sustain, we're currently seeing a downward trend, fighting to stay over $60k.
2393  Economy / Economics / Re: Who is Happier: Stock investors or Bitcoin investors on: October 24, 2021, 10:42:15 AM
Well, both of them share a similar concept, I find them both tedious and anxious. Both share the element of volatility and sudden changes, while needing the necessary experience. I don't think they are too far apart from each other. I used to trade in the past but have now stopped, due to it being too unpredictable and would often cause me anxiety.

I've also thought of getting involved in stocks, but after such experience with trading, I've changed my mind.

Well currently the world is overseeing the situation right now. Due to COVID everyone is focused on the emergency situations and in the process big stuff like tourism, airlines, leisure, and thus businesses which depended on them also went down along with it.

This sounds sick but this is one of many reason where economic crisis started and it’s pretty logical.
When everyone sits at home the worlds gonna ruin isn’t it. Lolz.

So now coming back to the question of yours whether it’s temporary or not that entirely depends on many factors such as whether world is gonna start to work back with the same speed or not? Whether businesses will reset to the same level of operations as they used to or not ?

However in my opinion we overcame worst crashes in the history so this will pass too.

2396  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will BTC reach $100,000 in December? on: October 23, 2021, 08:14:22 PM
We will see if it will. I'm excited to see it goes $100k in December but also I'm good if it didn't. In short period of time, bitcoin has proven that it can increase as much as it can and that usually happens while we're sleeping.  Grin
That's what happens to me when the market goes bullishly as I'm sleeping most of the time and don't see it actually happen. Everyone is optimistic about bitcoin $100k not only in December but to be stable and reaching that price soon.
I also believe that the price of bitcoin will reach the price of $100k in December. that means, the price of bitcoin in october - november should hit a price of $80k to $85k, so a $15k price push in december might be really easy to happen.
The thing that needs to be asked is, are we really ready to welcome that time? I also think that I don't want to be so hopeful with a $100k price in december, but I've now set some things up for a $100k price tag for bitcoin.
We did saw a quick price increase from bitcoin within the range today that has made it reached $66k. And it has also made a quick dump so both ways and possibilities are very available.
This is bitcoin that we get to see each day being very volatile and that's why the hope of seeing it @ $100k is always possible and giving it a timeline for December, whether it will or not on that month, we're always patient for it to be seen at that price.
Well, the all-time high didn't last long, that's for sure, and it was actually expected that it would fall shortly after. There's a slight possibility that Bitcoin will surpass $70,000 before 2022, but I'm not that positive about any further price increase within the year, it looks too much.
2397  Economy / Economics / Re: Inflation & Supply Chain Issues-How bad is it going to get?! on: October 23, 2021, 06:35:00 PM
i'm not feeling the supply chain issue in my country but the prices is going to the moon particularly the gas so it could still be a supply chain issue causing more demands. but there isn't so much news about it in my country compared to US news which they see port congestion while the delivery ships are docking nearby.

they couldn't just move to another port to unload what they have. it may take days but i suppose it's better than just waiting for weeks in the middle of the sea.
they are saying that if you have something to order for Christmas, this October might be the best time to order for it may be able to reach your doorstep right on time for xmas.

Neither do I, it's not like I've seen a shortage of anything, it's mostly that all prices have gone up, for most goods you can find in the supermarket. I don't believe that we'll face an issue with shortages anytime soon, but prices are expected to rise significantly in the near future.
2398  Economy / Economics / Re: Inflation & Supply Chain Issues-How bad is it going to get?! on: October 22, 2021, 08:51:07 PM
Right now things are starting to get a bit scary with not only how bad inflation has gotten, but also how bad supply chain issues are continuing to get.  The pandemic has caused a huge mess, and I'm curious how bad you guys see things getting and if it's as bad in your country as it is here in the United States.

First, how bad is inflation in your country..what % is it currently at?  (Here in the U.S. it's between 4-6% on average.  Many items have inflated much more such as seafood being around 20-30%)

Second, are you seeing supply chain issues in your country and how bad is it? (For example my favorite toilet paper has not been produced for well over a year now.  Recently my two favorite bags of chips have become unavailable from both supply chain issues and factories focusing on other items, putting them ahead of my FAVORITE damn chips lol).

It seems we are still in the very early stages of inflation and how bad it'll get depends on how long it perseveres. People in most countries will likely be able to tolerate a year or two of inflation without too devastating an impact - it will erode their salaries and push up the cost of living, so it closes the margin between income and outgoings. However the real challenge will be longer term, unless it is gotten under control it could cause central bank interest rates to rise which will cause a lot of trouble for home owners in 2-5 years time after the mortgages come up for renewal. If people are used to paying 2% it will be a big shock to see it rise up to 5-10% and will seriously curtail spending power, this has a knock on effect and ultimately leads to recessions.
You seem to know what you're talking about, I have a genuine question, though, how do things return to "normal"? How do we return to pre-inflation levels? For instance, fuel prices keep rising, so are most of our daily goods, how are these prices going to return to more humane levels? Is this thing a one off, which will last a few months before it dies down?
2399  Economy / Economics / Re: Inflation & Supply Chain Issues-How bad is it going to get?! on: October 22, 2021, 05:32:29 PM
Went to buy some Lipton tea (the large one, 1.5L), and let's just say that I bought something else. Prices have skyrocketed, even in soft drinks, that tea costed €2.39, which I find way too much. However, I've noticed plenty of goods having inflated prices. From soft drinks such as Cola, to chips and dairy and meat products. It's disturbing to say the least, daily grocery shopping has gone up a good 4%-5% I'd say, and this number is expected to rise.

According to TargetEconomics, Greece's annual inflation rate rose to 2.2% in September 2021, which is the highest since January of 2012.  Main upward pressure came from prices of transport (7.8 percent vs 6.7 percent in August); housing (4.7 percent vs 4.4 percent) and food & non-alcoholic beverages & tobacco (3.1 percent vs 3 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices inched up 2.1 percent.

2400  Economy / Speculation / Re: New All Time High Baby! - $66,974.77 on: October 22, 2021, 04:42:20 PM
This new small drop is definitely a correction. Do not get too excited about the chances of the price falling, I am sure that it will recover and do a great increase above 70k in the long run. There are always people who sell whenever the price goes up, that is the way they are making the world feel, I even feel like there is a good chance we could see under 60k as well.

However it is obvious that the fall was a small one and it will be recovered. Why do I feel that way? Because, there are times when the price crashes and when it does then the price really crashes, like not even a small amount, I mean %10+ per day for a while. So this wasn't a crash, it was a correction and we all will be fine. This is why I support that we will go back to higher prices and even break the new ATH and reach to 70k+ very easily, this was only a small step back.
There is always a chance of Bitcoin's price falling again, I don't mean to crash below $40,000-$50,000, but it could eventually drop below $60,000, before we see a new all-time high. The current one is a mere price correction, I don't believe that such volatility is alarming, since after the new ATH, there's a large mass of investors who probably sold to purchase later, at a lower price.
