3161  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: It seems that more people taking crypto trading as full time job on: March 08, 2022, 06:34:57 AM
2. Avoid trading signals. Most are either scam or pump and dump schemes
Unfortunately, most newbies don't want to hear that. They want it on the quick side, forgetting that even those who provide signals aren't 100% certain of what they predict will happen. They shouldn't think that seeking signals is a shortcut to becoming successful at trading. They ought to know that it's better to learn the technicals of trading and get accustomed to the basics than rely on another person to present it to them.

Trading should be treated as a profession that deserves learning and not as a Get Rich Quick Scheme.
3162  Other / Meta / Re: @Theymos @Cyrus Please give me another chance ? [after 3 years] on: March 07, 2022, 04:57:20 PM
I think you're making your case even worse by not staying on course. You should appeal your ban by only posting on your ban appeal thread, not anywhere else. BTW, you should show cause why you've to be forgiven with remorseful heart to start with. I know what it feels like to lose one's account. For you to still stick around after three years for it, I guess it means a lot to you. I hope you're given a second chance (if it's worth it though).

BTW, I checked the account you mentioned "rapidleech" in the OP and it led me to a Hero account that was last active on January 6th, 2022. I guess it's a different account.
3163  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Some questions about the Ripple. on: March 07, 2022, 04:05:11 PM
Is the future of the Ripple bright?
It will interest you to know that the asset you referred to as Ripple no longer exists as such. It's now known officially as XRP. The symbol remains the same as its name. In the past, it was a project I never believed in because it was to me an over surplus with an infinite supply. The current max supply is at 100 billion. At the current price of $0.7+, I think it isn't performing badly. I'm tempted to buy and hodl for the first time with all that I'm seeing on it now. Frankly, XRP didn't make any sense to me in the past but I'm having a different perspective about it now. If price drops to the $0.4 region, I will go in.
3164  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Many projects won't matter in four years time on: March 07, 2022, 02:23:02 PM
if you are a newbie you are welcome to this forum, this advice will help you in your crypto journey
😳 with just two posts to your credit, you're equally a newbie too (at least on this account). A newbie advising other newbies and the entire bitcointalk community sounds hilarious to me. Anyway, that said. I want to concur with you on the fact that a few years down the line from now some of the projects coming up will be long gone. I've witnessed that happen, and it won't be anything new if it does again. History has a way of creating a deja vu. Already, if we are observant we would've noticed that some of the tokens/coins that made the top 20 list on the crypto market in 2020/2021 are not that so at the moment. There has been a realignment sort of. Who knows before the next four years, some may have even dropped off the radar and completely varnished.
3165  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Inspirational Quotes of Crypto currency Success on: March 07, 2022, 01:35:38 PM
You don't need inspiration from outside world if you are inspired by yourself. Social media is filled with this garbage.
This is it!

OP should come to the knowledge of truth that to succeed in this cryptocurrency industry, they don't need any inspirational "lousy and empty" quotes at all. One needs to learn real lessons shared by others or that which happened to one. Inspirational quotes are mere literature for motivational speakers. Cryptos is a difficult terrain and one has to toughen up. It's not for sissies. Otherwise, the lessons learnt will be hard and sad. I'll advise OP to go learn technical and fundamental analysis and have an appreciable knowledge of them. That's what trading requires, not inspirational quotes.
3166  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Short selling on: March 07, 2022, 11:39:26 AM
With scenario 3 you already have in mind about what that philosopher believed about nothing being an absolute that it can't be doubted. I like that mindset too. Trading, to the best of my knowledge, is a speculative engagement. So, why should anyone be too certain that their bets would go in their favour. However, I wouldn't like a situation where I want to bridge the risk with someone else coming into it to up the stake. I rather risk it with the little I've than get someone to come in as a source of encouragement. Instead of risking 1 whole BTC with the lender's involvement, I rather go for 0.5 BTC alone.

I'm more familiar with your scenario 2. That's the way I roll. It saves stress.
3167  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Scalpers and day traders - Never lie, be realistic. on: March 07, 2022, 08:34:32 AM
What if when bitcoin price rose to $50000, a trader open a short (sell) position with 1x leverage. The liquidation price will be around $100000. Bitcoin reach ATH of $69000 and dropped back. If the person did not sell as of this time, the person is gaining already.
Impatience would make a lot of traders close their position at that level of $69k even when they already spelt their liquidation at $100k. That's what happens when emotions are tied to trades. I've consistently maintained that lack of self discipline is the bane of most traders and not their trading plans or skills. A lot have great skills but emotion messes them up.

I started off as a scalper because those whom I followed as a budding trader were of the opinion that one could easily go in and out of the market within minutes and pick wins. That, I discovered not to be entirely true as I kept recording loss after loss. With time I came to understand that my temperament is better situated for higher time frames. I don't do anything less than daily. However I've read and heard about those who make a kill from scalping. But it's just not my thing.
3168  Economy / Reputation / Re: Someone from Bengali local has created an account with same of my username on: March 07, 2022, 07:56:44 AM
~sjipped~
Of course because your username is very identical to theymos if translated into Indonesian. I don't know what other people think of you, but I feel like you really confuse me about why you're using that name for.
Honestly, until now I didn't know theymos meant anything apart from what the moniker was. I even thought it was an English coinage, comprising two words – "they mos(t)".  So, what about for those who aren't Indonesian; what difference does that mean? I think we're blowing this whole thing about random username out of proportion. Every username may mean something in other people's eyes apart from what the user intends it to mean. Do new people coming on here to register now have to check the meanings of the monikers they're choosing and then run a check on them to ascertain the monikers don't cross paths with any other here? I don't get it. The basic thing should be to watch those similar names if they intend to scam and then tag them when they do. There shouldn't be anything more to it. Usernames are just random names.
3169  Economy / Reputation / Re: Someone from Bengali local has created an account with same of my username on: March 06, 2022, 06:47:02 PM
Except the user in question had been lurking here and snooping before registering that account, I don't see how it would be possible for them to know what account is influential or not here. I'm sure the new user got so much attention on this because of the pedigree and activities of Little Mouse whose account they've similarity with. If the username had coincided with a less ambitious account, no one would've raised an eyebrow. For me, the deal would've been to give that new account a close monitoring to see what they're up to, instead of tagging it straight up. This coincidence could be a harmless one, come to think of it. Well, I hope such "harsh" action on the new user won't scare them away from this forum, anyway.
3170  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New to the world of crypto on: March 06, 2022, 05:40:32 PM
Hi. I am new to the bitcoin topic, could you give me some advice if now is a good time to get into crypto, or should I wait. Thanks in advance!
Every time is a good time to get into crypto but not every time that's good to make purchases/buy. Now that you're interested, concentrate on learning the rudiments of cryptocurrency while your steer clear of investing in any at the moment. Go through those links that have been put out in the post above and familiarise yourself with terminologies therein. Don't be in a haste to do any investment because the market is bearish now. Take your time and read.
3171  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: No social media is safe on: March 06, 2022, 04:23:50 PM
We all learn, one way or the other. It's a pity some get to be scammed first before they learn. In this case, OP has  learnt the lesson they paid for. For me, even when I know someone for a long time and they're trying to introduce me to a trading platform, I get skeptical and on the alert. Let alone when I'm being introduced to a trading platform by a random stranger of over a few weeks. OP made themselves an easy target. I hope the amount scammed wasn't much anyway. Report both the trading site and the user's Facebook handle and then move on.
3172  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin uptrend stop after Barry Silbert tweet that they are buying Bitcoin on: March 05, 2022, 09:39:00 AM
no one smart ever announces a buy on twitter before buying. as they know the reaction then becomes competition
what you find is that they buy first, then announce it.
This an insight that many investors overlook and think erroneously that the purchase happens after the announcement. Like Warren Buffet advised, and I rephrase – buy on the rumour of the news and not the actual news. Silbert coming open with his purchase in this sense, is the actual news.  Thank you for sharing that thought to refreshen our minds.

Is it possible that Barry Silbert is getting ready to sell on his tweet?  But sadly no one buys the tweet that resulted in the Bitcoin price dump?  All I can see here is that he is trying to make a somehow a FOMO scenario but has gotten the opposite instead.
That would really be hard on his investment for the opposite reaction. Perhaps his intention was to get the word out and cause a rush in the market and then easily he cashes out. I guess it backfired on him.
3173  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: According to Bill Miller, the collapse of Russia's currency is good for Bitcoin on: March 05, 2022, 08:59:49 AM
~Snipped~

I thought Vitalik was advising Putin. I am pretty sure he warned Putin for this and told him to convert their reserves to ETH but somehow Putin didn't pay attention probably. Like you said now they can't access them at all. If they had ETH on their reserves they could have spent them freely. It is probably a blessing for the Ukrainians though. I also see Vitalik is supporting the Ukrainians on Twitter which is kind of confusing. Wasn't he Russian?
There's a reason most business owners are said to be shrewd. Taking critical business decisions even when it affects family tie is one of those. I believe Vitalik is firstly looking out for his business and ensuring that Ethereum benefits maximally from the ongoing crisis. Going by your comment, he sold the idea of switching foreign reserves to ETH to his native Russia (he also has dual citizenship with Canada) and then puts his emotion towards Ukraine. If Russia didn't listen to him it's only because these people don't listen until something forces them to.

Ukraine is the small guy in the battle. Naturally, the underdog tag on Ukraine makes a lot of people sympathetic to her. These people see Russia as a menacing bully. If Vitalik were one of those sympathetic to Ukraine, I don't see any problem with that.
3174  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: According to Bill Miller, the collapse of Russia's currency is good for Bitcoin on: March 05, 2022, 07:04:01 AM
and it's not like using Bitcoin will help unfreeze their reserves, which are blocked by Western sanctions.
But of course, there's nothing much anyone can do if the milk is already spilled. Russia didn't think fast on that one to convert her foreign reserves to Bitcoin before it's freezed. Now it can't be accessible. It's like expecting to move money out from a banned/restricted bank account.

Like Miller, I also expect that the ongoing war would be good for Bitcoin to soar because people are going to switch over to it as a safe Haven. However, I'm yet to notice much spike on Bitcoin ATM. Perhaps, that will be evident in days to come as the sanction begins to bite the Russians deeper.
3175  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin as a means to restore people's authority over money on: March 05, 2022, 06:26:23 AM
The Russians will discover in Bitcoin a weapon to protect themselves from the collapse of the native currency and the bank limits on withdrawals in particular.

What are your thoughts?
Honestly, this will be the biggest test Bitcoin will face. If it panes out well for Russia, that will be "Uhuru" for Bitcoin as many more countries will adopt it and then have the audacity to dare the US on economic sanctions. I want to see how this works out, sincerely. What it could simply mean from the prism I'm looking at it is that the US would become a common foe to other nations and Bitcoin number one hater. Days to come will unveil what's in stock with Bitcoin and true financial independence.
3176  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Russia cut off from Swift is fantastic opportunity for bitcoin on: March 05, 2022, 05:21:05 AM
I will never see war as a great opportunity, even for Bitcoin. War is the last thing we all need, let's pray for peace and the rest will follow. War never solved anything in this world and will never will.
Remember a popular saying that those who make peace impossible make war inevitable? That's always the case with war. I ain't sure most people would want a war situation but then circumstances of disaffection and dissatisfaction are mostly what trigger wars. We've seen that play out in Russia. I, for one, don't like wars. Not because people get killed in it (people of course will always die, whether war or not), but because of the hardship women and children get to go through. The two major actors (the waring presidents) in this ongoing war don't seem to be concerned about that.
3177  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Be Cautious and take Caution. on: March 05, 2022, 05:09:05 AM
I believe there is a official Ukraine Bitcoin address for donations if you're feeling generous.
Ukrainian Scam Donation Posts and Users
Scam is nothing new to humanity as mankind constantly seeks opportunities during crisis such as the Russia–Ukraine war presents to profit from. Many good hearted individuals who genuinely want to help out will end up getting scammed of their hard earnings. It's such a pity that humanity is turning cold and making merchandize out of others' sufferings. Thanks for putting out that link, at least users will be properly directed to the the thread that warehouses the wallet addresses.
3178  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Don't lock your tokens away on: March 04, 2022, 03:40:33 PM

Do not hold your tokens for too long without looking back, I have lost some this way because later they move to main chain running on separate blockchain, imagine if you decide to check the progress of that project only in 2024 and you see that you've missed out on swapping your old tokens to the new coin..
This is word on marble, straight up. I've been a victim of that too. It's a warning every newbie or hodler should heed. It's good to hodl but it's best if one is hodling Bitcoin or Eth. With those ones, there's less chances of worry of migration or integration that can cause anyone to lose their crypto. I hope people who have read this will take it seriously.
3179  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Stay away from crypto influencers on: March 04, 2022, 09:27:54 AM
Influencers are humans. Humans are prone to mistakes and errors. The crypto industry is a highly speculative one. Speculation deals with guesses. Influencers can fail at speculations but that doesn't mean they won't get it right sometimes. I think I've been lucky to have picked one or two tokens from online influencers that did well. So, I won't be quick to give them a blanket condemnation as such. The caveat to all this is to never invest any amount you will miss.
3180  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Member Newbie on: March 03, 2022, 06:13:51 PM
For starters, you should realize that people learn at different pace. Intuitions and IQs differ as humans differ too. So, your grasping prowess may not be the same as others. It could either be higher than others or lower. Don't expect everyone to grasp at things at the same level. Having said all that, concerning your post, do you've any statistics to support your assertion of "most of the Members and Jr. Members having the mindset of newbies" or it's just a blanket assumption?
