This project could be better than Ethereum thanks to the dedicated work of (mostly, if not entirely) a single guy. Before saying well done I'd say thanks. Either way David, you showed us what to believe in one's own project means.

3182  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: January 13, 2017, 07:44:18 AM
Thanks tokeweed, finally I have someone supporting me when I say that Manchester United is on the rise. Next game against Liverpool is fundamental though: 10 pts difference with Chelsea are still too much.
3183  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-01-12]EU Planning a Database That Link User IDs to Cryptocurrency Wallets on: January 13, 2017, 07:39:32 AM
I think they will target exchanges. They will ask for customers' data and they will link fiat money to IDs (not crypto which they obviously can do).

3184  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-01-12] Why China’s central bank fears bitcoin on: January 13, 2017, 07:37:40 AM
It seems like Yahoo Finance is out of topics to cover.  Cool

"It was only one week ago that the price of the digital currency bitcoin hit a new all-time high of $1,130. Now the price has fallen precipitously, and was hovering around $800 on Thursday afternoon.
The reason is China.
The People’s Bank of China (PBOC) said on Wednesday that it plans regular on-site inspections of the leading Chinese bitcoin exchanges, including BTCChina, Huobi, and OKCoin."

3185  Economy / Speculation / Re: You'll sell at the bottom on: January 12, 2017, 06:47:23 PM
Emotionally, I'm worried and scared. But I know not to make financial decisions off that.

I'm just waiting this one out to see what happens. I may not be smart enough to sell at the top yet, but at least I'm not dumb enough to sell at the bottom.

Bitcoin has been, is and will always be my wisest financial store of value. I would have never believed something could have been possible but I've always dreamt of it.
Don't be worried  Wink Bitcoin will die many times before its death.
3186  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-01-12]PBOC Launch on-site inspections on China’s Major Exchanges on: January 12, 2017, 01:01:42 PM
So does this mean even more decrease in the price if they find some ill advised exchanges being done during these inspections?
I thought they were going to start them in a week. This is not so good with the hammering the price took yesterday.
Price will find its own way. The site inspection started yesterday.

This could explain the last drop. But I definitely agree that the price will find its own way. Many had a good chance to jump off the train with a bag full of profit and they did. We go in cycles, if we do understand this that's enough.
Those of us see the true bitcoin potential will stay here as long as it takes.

so many rebuy opportunities missed. why do bank wires take so long? and then they ask me why do I prefer btc over fiat.
Ok, buying mode on: let's accumulate more  Wink

I can't wait to have the buying chat bot on the mainnet: it seems to me a really good achievement tonych! Also I'd add that we all wait to know when the next linking phase will take place.
3189  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-01-10] Assange Just Read Out a Bitcoin Block Hash to Prove He Was Alive on: January 11, 2017, 07:24:48 AM
Bitcoin block hash as "proof of life"! Isn't it cool?  Grin

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange used data from the blockchain as a "proof of life" during a Reddit ask-me-anything session today.
For months, some of Assange's ardent Internet fans have been theorizing that he had died. However, Assange responded in a livestreamed talk, calling the theories "silly" and confirming that the video wasn't prerecorded by reading off the most recent block hash (a string of letters and numbers, unique to block 447506 on the bitcoin blockchain).

3190  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: January 11, 2017, 07:21:00 AM

Is there a reason for the  specific number 2.1111 blackbyte for 1 byteball?
Why not just 2 for 1.

This reminds me when Satoshi got asked why the 21 Million limited coin supply was chosen. The good answer back then was: does it matter?
3191  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 11, 2017, 07:17:44 AM
Not to be a pessimist, but the chart pattern looks eerily similar to the one that formed back in June/July, just before Bitfinex got hacked.

Wouldn't be surprised if some similar shenanigans were being attempted with Stamp or some other major exchange right now, or over the next few weeks...

(again, not trying to be a downer... but surprises do happen, hope I'm wrong though)

That is called history: we've seen too many exchanges exploding along the ride. The most infamous one was Mt.Gox and we all know about that.
But others got "hacked" or forced to die: Bter, Finex, Mintpal, Cryptsy......
We need to be watchful and follow the golden rule: control the keys.

Talking price it seems we are up and running today. Nice
3192  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 10, 2017, 08:27:39 AM
in the meanwhile LTC is rallying. Looks like something is afoot.

Segwit on the way for LTC, great news for BTC... a solid test that should get some more support.

I really hope it will be activated soon.
Yes, that's a good stage to get a rough idea of what that will be for bitcoin as well. Only one real concern is always present: I don't feel much comfortable knowing that a large pool (f2pool) controls more than 50% of the global hashrate.
Anyway, I care about segwit's adoption to see whether that works or not.
3193  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-01-09] Bitcoin's Price Volatile at $900 as China Concerns Linger on: January 10, 2017, 08:20:33 AM

Bitcoin prices experienced intense price volatility on 9th January, continuing a trend that's been the new normal since late last week.
Prices fell nearly 5% in less than two hours across global exchange today, declining from an opening price of $913 to a daily low of $878, according to CoinDesk USD Bitcoin Price Index (BPI) data. After falling, bitcoin prices rose roughly 3.4% to $908.37, before tapering off again below $900.
The continued market volatility comes in the wake of new concerns that the Chinese government may impose further restrictions on the digital currency.

3194  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How to Turn Gambling into a Profitable Activity on: January 09, 2017, 07:40:33 AM
Those who get profits from gambling are the casino guys. Us, the players, can earn mostly by luck. Gambling should be considered as a fun activity. No money will be made regularly out of it. I would suggest to invest in a btc casino but always consider the risks.
Summary: you can't make a living from gambling alone.
The average person does not make money out of gambling but poker players that are skilled at the game can earn a good sum of money every day by using their skills at the game and not luck.

Out of 100 poker players (online) usually less than 5% earn money in the long run. Don't tell me poker is a short term thing. Even an experienced poker player needs a long time frame to make a decent profit. Unless you pay a lot of money for expensive tournaments (usually paid by sponsors if you are really good) and win them.
No man, is extremely hard to make poker a profitable activity
3195  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 09, 2017, 07:34:33 AM
This sort of discourse is why I love this thread.

Sorting through the memes, Trains/Rockets/Wile E Coyote gifs, chart posts with "TA" which is neither technical nor analytical, completely valueless comments "Is crypto done", long winded dribble, diatribes, plus tons & tons of bull and bear shit - occasionally there is some insightful and interesting discussion taking place.

I second you completely. It's like finding a needle in a haystack: I like it because this is like everywhere. There are true pearls scattered all over this thread (and the forum at large). If one finds them, well you know about it.  Wink
Sometimes I just have to remember who said it and some words used in a post and I am able to find everything I need.
Nothing gets lost here
3196  Economy / Speculation / Re: Stop giving your cheap btc to whales thanks to Wyckoff ! on: January 09, 2017, 07:18:05 AM
This is such a good thread which is showing how early adopters will probably get robbed of most  of their coins by the Composite Men (aka whales here). Looking at OP I supposed sandiman was talking about the recent activity: I got astonished when I realized he basically predicted the course of action we've seen recently.
Well done  Wink
3197  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-01-08] Study: Bitcoin Hedges Global Uncertainty on: January 09, 2017, 07:08:08 AM
A newly released study on the relationship between bitcoin and global uncertainty finds that bitcoin acts positively to uncertainty. Analyzing a lengthy period from the 17th of March, 2011, to the 7th of October, 2016 by using the VIX index, a widely used key market risk indicator that reflects market sentiment and investor expectation of 14 countries, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK and the US, the study concludes:

“Bitcoin is shown to serve as a hedge against uncertainty at the extreme ends of the Bitcoin market and global uncertainty, but at shorter investment horizons. Therefore, short-horizon investment in Bitcoin can help investors hedge global equity market uncertainty, especially when the market is functioning in bear and bull regimes and also when uncertainty is either low or high.”

I don't use slack, that's why I asked for someone to tell me about how much blackballs are going for, and if it's more or less than whiteballs.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1728405.0
The above is the byteball trading thread: if you don't have slack that's the way to go. Try to put your wtb & wts over there and check what others are asking to get a rough idea of blackbytes value.

OP updated to a more precise description of the second round distribution:

Quote
Participation in Byteball distribution

If you missed the 1st round of distribution, you can still participate in the further rounds.  If you were in the 1st round, you can multiply your holdings.  In the second round, which is expected in mid-February, you receive:
- 62.5 MB for every 1 BTC of proven balance
- 0.1 new bytes for every 1 byte you own at the moment of the snapshot

You also receive blackbytes:
- 62.5 * 2.1111 * 106 blackbytes for every 1 BTC of proven balance
- 0.21111 new blackbytes for every 1 byte you hold on the linked address at the moment of the snapshot
(total money supply of blackbytes is 2.1111 times more than that of bytes)

Byteball translators, please update your threads ASAP, thanks!
we can start to link our adresses or we need to do this later?
I can't find the quote but tonych said that the next linking phase has not been announced yet. At present you don't need to link your address.
Anybody correct me if I'm wrong
