so neither rx580 is suitable for new miners period...if u r just starting now it is WAY TOO late...u r better off spending on RTX30series. Best card that can be bought...lowest power usage and requires only an 8 pin. No problems with mine whatsoever....as usual.
RTX cards are still selling for higher price today it's not a good option for a newbie, ROI is way longer than those rx580 and 1660 super which are the lowest GPU for mining today, rx6600xt is another good choice. rx580 graphics cards have not been sold new in stores for more than 1 year. Therefore, you will have to compare the used rx580 and the new rx6600xt video card. If I have the opportunity to buy 2 used rx580 graphics cards instead of one rx6600xt, then I will choose 2 used rx580 graphics cards.

for sata/molex connector powering only one riser for low power GPU, like a 570/580. if connect more than one riser will be burn cable or connector(no matter what quality of PSU/Gold or Platin). Modular PSU not good for this job. tried with cooler master 1200w platin series too. For high power GPU's connecting direct 6 pin pci-e cable from PSU.
I have more than 5 years 2 raisers connected to 1 branch of the power supply. The raiser does not draw more than 75 watts. The only problem is the poor quality adapters that come with the raisers. I do not use them, but connect the power supply directly to the raiser.

Go to YouTube and type how to set up a mining rig there are tons of videos explaining how to do this perfectly, you need risers if you want to use the three graphic cards in a single motherboard
1. 3 preferable 4 risers 009 versions are the best 2. Massive power supply that can power the three 3080 I'm sure a 1800watt will do the job so well.
Get this ready and follow guide on YouTube
Even if you mine in dual mining and do not spare the video card, the maximum consumption will not be more than 350 watts. 350*3+100 = 1150 watts. Why use an 1800 watt power supply if there are only 3 video cards and their number will not increase?

If you pay $200 for electricity and get $90 worth of cryptocurrency. Then you get a loss of 110 dollars. I think that in this situation it is better to buy cryptocurrency for 110 dollars every month ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) Thanks for this answer. One dude who understand this. Swogerino did not really understanding this ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) @Swogerino sorry mate but you are wrong as always - you did not understand the point that miners must pay there bill - only people who pay nothing for the electrictiy can act like you. (it is impossible - electricity is never free - some dude must pay the bill) FP91G explained it well - if you mining reward is 90$ per month but you pay 200$ for the electricity = you loose 110$. Invest this 200$ is better. And electricity price here in germany is about 0,35$ per Kwh ![Roll Eyes](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/rolleyes.gif) This is why i don´t have any rig running in germany -> all in eastern europe. But the new goverment will kill our EEG taxes for electricity -> this will bring down the price to maybe 0,25$ per Kwh I described it in another thread: I bought 5x S9 in may 2017 for over 2000$ per unit + Shipping + Taxes = cost me around 12000$ or so - this were over 8 BTC at this time - this 5x S9 never mined over 8 BTC in this time. Same story for ETH - 13000$ invested at a ETH price of 30 - 50$ = over 260 ETH - never mined with this gear. And this guys who say: "mine and hold" yes sure but nobody knows what happens in the future - holding is a gamble every time!!!!! It is more profitable to trade in my view.
Mining is just another way to acquire crypto for trading. If trading is your plan then mining, even at a loss, costs less than buying crypto on the open market. I certainly wouldn't be buying if I had unused mining capacity. JayDDee i'm shocked!!!!!! ![Shocked](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/shocked.gif) You say mining at a lose is better than buying? This is really really disappointing. It says - mining at a lose so how could this be better than buying for the market price? 0,025- 0,35$ per Kwh* With such electricity prices, I would not even think about mining. I also sold all the mined cryptocurrency in 2015-2018, but now experience suggests that you need to save 30-50% of the cryptocurrency as an investment if the equipment has already paid off.

It's hard to install thermal pad on Vega cards, if you got the wrong pad your mem temp will increase alot, I stay away from AMD cards for few reasons like this one, Nvidia graphic cards are the best.
Do you think if you install the wrong thickness thermal pad on an nvidia graphics card, it will work fine? Replacing thermal pads on AMD and Nvidia graphics cards is the same if you have a good tool https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1000005101004.htmlDetermining the thickness of thermal pads with a regular ruler can give an error.

Is Flux coin a better alternative to ETH if PoS happens? I think this coin beats ravencoin and other in term of real utilities, reply if you are really into this coin and you believe it will survive few years to come.
Today, on many video cards, the profit is 1-1.5 dollars per day, and after the end of Ethereum mining, the profit will decrease by 5-10 times. I don't yet know of coins that can use the entire available hashrate of video cards that mine Ethereum. Don't make big plans around this coin.

I saw this nvidia t600 video card at a reasonable price and wanted to know if it's worth buying to do some light mining
https://www.pny.eu/en/professional/explore-all-products/nvidia-quadro/1502-nvidia-t600![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fi.ibb.co%2FLNDj5Dr%2F1502-20210426192047.png&t=663&c=z6aHX_HZxAKRJg) CUDA Cores 640 GPU Memory 4 GB GDDR6 Memory Interface 128-bit This video card does not look like a mining video card and its characteristics are very weak. Better buy a 4 GB PX 470 and you will have a better chance of making a profit.

I got a GPU buying order from China on rtx2060 do you think it's a good time to buy GPU? I'm expecting bear market in February but things are looking different this time around, history isn't repeating itself anymore.
If you bought this video card for $500, then a simple calculation shows that the payback is 431 days at $0.06 per kilowatt. This is a very bad indicator, if we assume the imminent end of Ethereum mining. Now I'm more negative about buying video cards for mining.

In Russia, video cards, Apple phones and other equipment have risen in price from 20 to 50%. I would not call mining a profitable business. I hate this war and don't talk about its impact on cryptocurrencies. But I am very disappointed with the behavior of many banks that harm the citizens of other countries who are not involved in the war.

Dual mining will make sense in bear market even when ETH is out of the list of PoW coins, the trick is to hold for few years before selling so TON, ERGO, Conflux, Ravencoin, Alephium and few others looks promising enough.
A very dubious decision, and a small miner will have to choose 1 or 2 coins, which may end in failure.

The profitability we know has reached almost an all time low where for 350 Mhsh you make like 12-13 USD a day but I wonder what are small miners doing and by small miners I mean home miners the ones with just one rig with 6 x Rx 470/480/570/580 and doing about 180 Mhsh or 6.5 USD daily if their electricity price is for example expensive like in Germany which goes up to 0.17 EUR/kwatt.
I think many of them have shut down their rigs but I was once in their shoulders in early 2018 but I kept on mining even at a loss and at 2021 that materialized in a really big profit for me.I advice such miners to keep mining even at a loss knowing that in the long term I only expect Bitcoin price to go upward.
PS.Talking about Ethereum mining here.
If I had an electricity cost of 0.17 EUR/kwatt, then I would not start mining. This is an irrational investment. I pay around $0.04 per kilowatt so I haven't mined at a loss yet. As long as mining is profitable, you need to keep working. And then probably sell video cards or look for cheaper electricity. In 2018 I paid 0.09$ kilowatt and I was paying in electricity about 200 USD for all my mining rigs and making a total of 90 USD then in Bitcoin. All people at that time told me you are doing a stupid thing and called me dumb.I didn't care and continued mining having firm belief that what I saw in the end of 2017 sure would come at a much bigger scale and that happened the first time in February 2021 and at this time the very same persons who called me dumb called me calling me a "Champion".This is the advice I want to give all small miners,to not give up even if mining at a loss, all the lost money will be recouped and at a much bigger scale in the very next bull run.I am collecting every two days Bitcoin payments and I am building up from mining activity and I am a small miner myself with only 320 Mhsh and the energy price has gone here to 0.135$ kilowatt but I don't care at all,I have the same belief I had in 2018 and I know in the end this is the right thing to do. I don't understand what's going on with your electricity prices in Germany? 0.09$-0.135$-0.17 EUR/kwat (0.19$) This is a huge change in electricity prices even in 3 years. If you pay $200 for electricity and get $90 worth of cryptocurrency. Then you get a loss of 110 dollars. I think that in this situation it is better to buy cryptocurrency for 110 dollars every month ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

best way to start buy ryzen 5 3600 cpu with gtx 1660s and try it with cpu and gpu both.
If you want to mine on the processor, then it is better to buy a RYZEN 9 3950X, but I would rather buy 2 video cards.

Can you still use gtx970 to mine today? Years back this card can hash 20MH on Ethereum but today the 4GB limit won't allow ETH mining anyone still running this old bad boys?.
You can mine other coins like ERGO, Ravencoin, Ethereum classic. If you are satisfied with the profit, then continue mining. But I would sell this video card now and look for more power efficient video cards to buy.

it is fine as long as you are using 1 molex cable to 1 riser. if you use 1 cable molex to 2 or 3 risers then you will start see party.
The power supply has 3 cables with 3-4 molex connectors and 3 cables with sata connectors. I connect 2 raisers to 1 cable, this is 150 watts of load. This is normal for RX 480/580 or GTX 1060/1070 and similar graphics cards. Cables must be of high quality, for example, from Gold Corsair or Cougar power supplies.

I got a Vega 56 from a friend and the temp reach 60°C when mining ETH using HiveOS but the memory temp is up to 74°C is this normal mem temp it something to worry about?
On the reference video cards, the temperatures are 5 degrees Celsius less, the one that you have good results. If the temperature of the video cheat does not rise above 75°C and the memory temperature does not exceed 85°C, I would not change anything. And I would clean the dust as needed, or 1 time in 4-6 months.

Eth always remains the first choice in mining if you have a card with good performances you can try dual mining but perhaps for a few dollars more it is not worth squeezing the gpu to the maximum it shortens its life cycle
A few dollars a day is not enough, but a good amount accumulates over the year. You can use a GPU with a good overclock if you have a good cooling and ventilation system. If you have an open case at home or in the garage, then only in winter, if the temperature does not rise much.

How often do you change riser on mining rig? Do I have to have spare risers at home for what reason? I have friend living very close to my house and he has a 100MH mining rig which works for a very long time without changing a thing and I've read posts on here about people complaining about bad risers or cables, I'm just learning more about mining and I want to venture into it
You should have spare raisers. 1-2 raisers are a must. Even if there is a shop for miners near you, then when you need raisers or the store will be closed or there will be no raisers for sale. philipma1957 wrote a nice post about what a miner should have, but I can't find it.

I don't know why people are buying old ASIc miners like T2 for example simply because they are cheap, those ASIC takes up to 2000watts or more if I get that correctly, even if electricity is free those things are crap or is there something I'm not seeing?.
Innosilicon Terminator2 (T2) 17.2TH/s is not a very old ASIC and gives $3/day profit on free electricity. But the demand for such asics is not very big, I see a lot of ads for sale. These asics are easy and cheap to repair, all you need is free electricity.

Lately i got some 470 in my hand gpuz showed hynix memory i said ok but card was acting wierd then opened it and saw memories are samsung ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) so i downloaded from techpowerup samsung memory bios and flashed now working without any issues. maybe you also have same problem https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/190672/sapphire-rx470-4096-161012Memory Support 4096 MB, GDDR5, Autodetect 4096 MB, GDDR5, Elpida EDW4032BABG 4096 MB, GDDR5, Hynix H5GC4H24AJR You need to carefully study this parameter. I'm not 100% sure, but if you use such a BIOS on a video card with Samsung memory, then the video card can turn into a brick. It is better to use a bios from the manufacturer, but if there is no bios with suitable memory, then you can use a bios from a similar video card from another manufacturer. If your video card has 2 fans, then choose a video card with 2 fans from another manufacturer. But don't forget the risks.
