it fixed itself thanks
if i wanted to add some extra cooling to the units where should i place the fans top, bottom or sides?

It doesn't really matter that much, the thing that matters is that you need to keep the flow moving from A to B.

That is, don't point two fans into the miner for example, instead, put them one after the other so that the flow continues.

Visual representation:

Code:
Do this:
~~> MINER ~~>

Don't do this:
~~> MINER <~~

You can try different configurations, top/bottom, left/right, etc, and then measure how fast is the internal fan spinning after you changed something (look at the RPMs). Keep changing configurations until you get the lowest RPMs

Now this is a very tricky topic. Whenever a mega sports event happens, the host nation will witness an uptick in alcohol consumption, drug abuse and sex tourism. With Qatar, it is going to be a lot more difficult, because of their very strict laws regarding these issues. Consumption of alcohol or "illicit sexual relations" can attract severe penalties, which may include flogging. Homosexuals are usually sentenced to flogging if they are found out to be indulging in sodomy. I don't know how strictly these rules will be implemented during the world cup, because there will be a lot of gay players who are taking part in the tournament.

This is going to cause a lot, a lot of issues.

In Qatar, alcohol consumption in public is not allowed. Qatar is an Islamic country with strict rules on specific behaviours. Although, sports Minister Al-Ali has already indicated in a press statement that “a new, unprecedentedly high standard of excellence” will be in force by Qatar in 2022 for hospitality as the guest country.

This means that it is very likely and expected that beer and other alcoholic refreshments will be available for foreign guests in the hotels and marquees. However, this will not be the case outside, including in the stadiums.

Now, that's really strange. I'm not convinced they will not have beer for sale in the stadium, specially when Budweiser is a sponsor of the event:

The Anheuser-Busch InBev-brewed beer brand has been the official beer sponsor of the men’s FIFA World Cup for over 35 years now, with the 2022 event set to be its tenth World Cup.

The last renewal between the two parties was announced in October 2011, with Budweiser remaining as a global FIFA sponsor for the 2018 and 2022 men’s World Cups.

I don't see how Budweiser will not be sold inside the stadiums.

And yeah, all the other stuff will probably create headlines for the entire tournament.

Let's say this world cup will be interesting inside and outside the court...

Long time that I didn't saw such an hashrate with Sha256 algo haha ! Do you have free electricity ?

Oh wow, to put that into context, a single USB Miner, a Compac F, runs at 300GH/s. This shows the difference visually:

Code:
73,580 h/s
vs
300,000,000,000 h/s

And the USB miner is considered to have an extremely low chance to hit a block!

Although the League of Nations is not important for big teams. However, the performance of Hungary surprised me a lot. They have strong teams like Germany, Italy, and England in their group. However, Hungary is at the top of the group. The 4-0 win over England was excellent. The Hungarian squad has a number of talented players. They will become more experienced if they get the right direction.

Yeah, but Italy didn't qualify for the world cup, so I guess they're probably putting more effort into the Nations League now.

Or maybe they're just completely demotivated now. It's hard to predict how these emotional things might affect a team, but they usually do affect them in one way or another.
3185  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why is it so hard to win at gambling? on: June 21, 2022, 04:23:14 PM
It is always hard to be the winner in gambling because by design itself you are bound to lose and the casino is bound to win. The casino is designed to earn and make big money from gamblers. The gamblers are designed to have fun and lose. And as if this is not enough, the psychological effects of casinos and their games are such as that the loser will not stop gambling. He will continue to gamble and chase his loss and will end up with a bigger loss. That's the reason.

Exactly.

That's why casinos can continue to operate earning a lot of money. It's because humans are not great at probability intuitively and the casino just ruthlessly applies math without any feeling, and with an advantage to the house. On top of that they can give you food and drinks to keep you there as much as possible, because the longer you stay, the more profitable it is for them.

I currently have 2 btc miners one has stopped working, just a solid red light this is the one with the node and the other one is plugged in via usb and is working....I've tried restarting it many times fan comes on for a few seconds then nothing.

they have been running flawless for months and both are in balance hashrate

Have you checked if it's connecting to the pool?

Maybe there's an issue with connectivity and there's no work delivered to the miner.

You would need to give more details for anyone to be able to help.

What's the output of the miner?, is it connected?, mining?, what does the dashboard say, etc.
3187  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Announcing the FutureBit Apollo BTC - A Full Node/Mining Platform for the Home! on: June 21, 2022, 04:17:07 PM
Hello

is it possible to transform a full node into a usb node?
because i have 2 full! and 2 power !
If it possible 1 power 1 full and 1 usb-full tranform?

The only difference between the Full and Standard is that the Full has an extra single board computer connected directly to the miner.

You can turn a Standard into a Full if you provide your own Raspberry Pi or similar for example.

And you can turn a Full into a Standard by simply not using the extra single board computer and connecting the miner through USB to another computer.
3188  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ FIFA World Cup 2022: Qualifying Games For Qatar on: June 21, 2022, 04:13:06 PM
Unfortunately you made an error in your post. Uruguay have won the World Cup twice. It means the teams that have qualified for the 2022 tournament have won the competition 9 times between themselves.

Uruguay first won the inaugural World Cup competition in 1930 which was also held in Uruguay. They went on to win the competition in 1950 for the second and final time before the dominance of Brazil and Pele and later Argentina and Maradona laid foundations to overshadow Uruguay and other South American nations.

~snip~

Yes, you're right. But it gets complicated...  Grin

Uruguay also won 2 times the competition before it was called World Cup in 1930, which they also won, as you mentioned.

Uruguay have won four FIFA-organized World Football Championships. They won the first World Championship organized by FIFA under the Olympic Committee umbrella with true representation from all continents; before then, football in the Olympics comprised only European teams. Uruguay then won the next two World Cups (Jules Rimet Trophy) in which they participated; these tournaments, the 1930 and 1950 FIFA World Cups, were fully independent from the Olympics and employed clear rules distinguishing professional and amateur football players. Since 1924 marked the beginning of true international football competition, organized by FIFA, FIFA recognizes Uruguay as four-time world champions and allows the team to wear four stars on their uniforms during official international football competitions.

So, yes, Uruguay has won the current World Cup competition twice, but when you'll see them playing this World Cup they'll be wearing 4 stars:

Following-up here to say it was indeed permissions issue. When I used sudo to list USB devices and start cgminer, all works well.

Thanks for troubleshooting with me on this. Got all 3 humming along at 400+ now

Good to hear it's working now.

Hopefully you managed to make it work without sudo, as there's really no need to run cgminer as sudo and it's always preferable to run any software with as low permissions as possible.

For example, if any malware somehow gets into cgminer, then it would have full access to your entire computer, whereas if you're running it without sudo there will be some actions it cannot do at least.

Germany is always in a good position to win a world cup, but I think that this one will go to South America
last four went to European teams, all different (Italy, Spain, Germany, France), so looking at statistics it is either England or South American giants, and with England team, that is leaving us with Brasil and Argentina

with all said, I think that Argentina is a bit closer to winning it

It's going to be an interesting world cup. Previous champion Italy didn't even qualify for this one!

Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, France, Spain, all of them have high chances of becoming the champion of this world cup.

And who knows, sometimes there are surprises as well!

If we look at the South American countries, Brazil looks much stronger than Argentina, although both these teams have never lost in qualifying matches, but Brazil have shown very good results and their preparation for the World Cup... If I had to choose between Argentina and Brazil, I'd bet on a Brazilian win...

Brazil has won the world cup 5 times, whereas Argentina has only won 2 times.

In my mind it's clear that Brazil would end up winning, they usually have a better overall team. Every player is very good. Argentina does have excellent talent like Messi, but as a whole their teams is weaker than Brazil.
3192  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ FIFA World Cup 2022: Qualifying Games For Qatar on: June 20, 2022, 12:08:58 PM
Three out of the four qualified teams from South America have won the world cup in the past. This is the highest percentage compared to other continents.

Argentina has won 2 times, Uruguay has won 4 times, and Brazil has the current world record, 5 times.

This will be the fourth time that Ecuador participates in the world cup. It's clearly the weakest one from South America.
3193  Economy / Speculation / Re: Was 17600$ was the bottom ? on: June 20, 2022, 04:44:35 AM
In ten years this discussion will be interesting to read.

Short term changes in the price are basically impossible to predict, given that millions of people all around the world are buying and selling Bitcoin 24/7, independently.

What you can know, is that over the long term (4+ years) the amount of new coins entering the network will be lower. If demand continues at the same or higher levels, it would mean a higher price.
3194  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: why can't bitcoin be based on something that has value? on: June 20, 2022, 04:03:22 AM
Bitcoin is not imaginary. It's real.

It's information.

Would you say a photo encoded in a computer is not real? Bitcoin is even better than that because you cannot duplicate it, like you can with the digital photo.

What's the value of that photo?, well, it depends on many factors, but it can have a value if it's useful or desirable by people. Also scarcity increases the value. An exclusive photograph that no one else has can have a great value. A common photo has less value. And so on.

Bitcoin is way better than gold because it has similar properties without having to have all the negatives like difficulty to transport, verification, divisibility, etc.
3195  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: High odds or low odds, which do you prefer? on: June 19, 2022, 04:00:22 AM
One way of thinking would be that something that pays too little, but has way more chances of happening, is probably not as appealing to a gambler because the win wouldn't make too much a difference.

On the other hand, if the chances of happening are very low, and therefore the payout very high, a gambler might assume it's lost money, but in the event he actually wins, it might potentially be life changing.

The second scenario seems to me to be more attractive.

It will be very influential, the weather is a problem for some players who are not used to their weather. Of course it will take time to adapt to the new weather.
Given that the FIFA World Cup 2022 will be held in Qatar, the weather will certainly be hotter, as Conditions The highest daily temperature rises 5°C, from 35°C to 40°C, rarely falling below 31°C or exceeding 44°C.
Players who are in a fairly cold climate will be a little hot. It is a challenge for the team shirt manufacturers to be able to reduce the heat, so they can't adapt well.

But it's not just about the shirts and how to adapt, it's also up to the field manager to make the field cooler or to be able to adjust field conditions that are suitable for all players.

Lots of European countries are now getting massive heatwaves, so I think they're going to be fine.

Here are some examples:

France has its hottest day EVER thanks to killer 45.8C Saharan heat bubble

UK weather forecast: Hotter than the Sahara as country set for blistering 34C temperatures

A third of the world could live in places as hot as the Sahara desert by 2070, WEF warns
3197  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: June 19, 2022, 03:51:38 AM
It is going to be really awkward for me to have this World Cup in a month like November. Because we have always been accustomed to watching this beautiful tournament in summers. But maybe I'm very prejudiced about this and it will still be a lot of fun. However this will change the order of everything also. Because there is going to be a huge break for the domestic leagues then. This can cause the fixtures to be even tighter after the World Cup ends. Or maybe the season would end very late compared to normal.

I think it's nice to change it up a bit. Also, in the Southern hemisphere November will be roughly the end of Spring, and soon the start of Summer, so it's nice for the people that live there.

It's always a bit odd to refer to a specific point in time as Summer or Winter, etc, because that's different in each area of the world. Maybe it's fine for national sports, or news, but for worldwide events you also would need to know where the person saying it is from, which makes things a bit more complicated.

Can't wait for the world cup to start!

A quick reminder:

The hodl line is still at 3 years, 4 months, and 4 days

You can see it live here:

https://hodl.camp

This means that, no matter when you bought Bitcoin, if you waited at least that amount of time, the purchasing power of that Bitcoin is higher than the purchasing power of the fiat used to buy it. And that doesn't even consider inflation. Also, this is the worst case scenario. In most cases you're way better off.

If I see your setup I ask myself why you didnt buy a bigger miner int he first place but so many small miners?

Well... the Compac Fs are way better in terms of running costs, so if you manage to get them for cheap, you're way better off.

Of course it also depends on many factors as well, like availability for example. Not always you're going to have your preferred miners in stock.

Also, Compac Fs and Apollo BTC are currently the best ones in terms of home mining (no extremely loud fans, nice looking, etc).

You can get way better ROI by just buying any industrial miner, but that's out of the question here. Those are extremely loud, hot, and a bit ugly as well.
