3181  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The Covid madness increases in the UK. on: October 22, 2020, 03:53:26 PM
Wales seem to have been logical. We have a 3 week total lockdown (and 1 week for schools) where we should hopefully see a reduction in cases...

I do think the government should've given 5-7 days off work to people every 2 months to try to reduce the number of cases. I think as symptomatics should have recovered by 7 days for the most part. And I don't think tourism is big in the UK in the winter but expect it to come back in March.

Also @franky1 I think the bulk of hospital admissions are in the 2nd to 4th week after infection. The first week after are probably for people with other issues as well as the virus that cause an exaggeration of the lower oxygen levels. So it's even worse...
3182  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Have I benn stolen? on: October 22, 2020, 03:39:36 PM
You have 2 factor authentication via trusted coin (the mobile authenticator thing)? Yes?

Did you download from a phishing link thag was sent in an old version of electrum or did you use the electrum.org website? Was the old version of electrum you updated from (if you updated) below 3.3.5?

And did you just open the wallet and discover the coins were gone or did you do anything else too?
3183  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Question about segwit and fees in Electrum wallet. on: October 22, 2020, 01:45:58 PM
I think you should probably pick a different exchange if you can. If they don't accept segwit deposits I'd have doubts their security is up to a good standard (because its taken them so long to update and they should have a contingency to be able to "plug" the blockchain directly in to the server for changes like this).

But yes you're able to send between segwit and legacy addresses fine as long as both wallets/services support it but if they don't you just won't be able to you won't lose anything by trying.

And its cheaper to both send and receive to/from segwit. I think it's about 80 bytes per input for native segwit v 140 bytes for legacy but I could be wrong on that one...
3184  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is DeFi really a threat to centralized finance? on: October 22, 2020, 12:03:31 PM
It's probably a supplement to it.

Rather than having individual banks lending to customers and central banks, they're instead lending on one large network of banks.

If someone can offer a 3% return on your currency from another country and all you have to do is digitally sign something from your hq then it'll probably mean most places have a standard interest rate.

Most things of values: stocks, real estate and cars, are easy to link to their owner and easy to sign across to a company if necessary enforcement would have to be done in person and there'd obviously still be risks but if you're investing in a blended lending fund (which defi kinda is) then it wouldn't be too risky imo. There might be less insurance on savings available though too.
3185  Other / Meta / Re: Voting for important forum changes on: October 22, 2020, 11:30:08 AM
You'd need to. Make a worthwhile voting system too as "standard democracy" doesn't work and never really has...

Voting on a controversial ban might already be a thing done by moderators so you'd just be expanding the vote to say legendafies and hero's? But what's stopping the person banned buying vote power either by buying votes or buying accounts?
3186  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin-qt is not opening on: October 22, 2020, 11:25:35 AM
Bitcoind is the command line version of bitcoin core. They're essentially the same thing but one's a gui to help people understand how to use it.

Did you press debug to see if it came up with anything (though I don't think it normally does). You could try checking the event manage to see if there's anything in there.

Have you run chkdsk recently or had any other apps not work?
3187  Other / Serious discussion / Re: [T&T] covid app without location tracking? on: October 22, 2020, 11:15:18 AM
I'm just getting to know if the existence of this coronavirus app just know and I'm still surprised as to it's necessity or why it was created. A mean, even in rural villages were the major electronic device might seem to be the transistor radios (Just exaggerating though) they still managed to get the news on the Covid19 pandemic, are aware of it's guidelines and regulations, mode of transmission and effects. So what really necessitates the creation of this app?
Hearing that it uses location is just another awkward and phishing thing about it. Perhaps based on the frequent specific information accessed on the platform, they could be able to determine if your an infected someone and has refused to come up to law enforcement agencies and so, they could just track you done with the app. That's just my guess though but, with all the informations on Google of the pandemic, I still see the app to be needless.

Yeah I just left it idle without any permissions...

It doesn't clock anyone unless you're within 2 metres of them for more than 15 minutes (and I don't think I'll end up like that where I don't know the person anytime soon).
3188  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin-qt is not opening on: October 22, 2020, 11:09:51 AM
You're probably going to have to just reinstall it.

Can you launch it from the command line or try running it as an administrator (right click and run as admin)?

If that again doesn't work, you could try running the daemon (bitcoind) from the command line and also try "bitcoind - help" to see if the help screen loads.
3189  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Clone Trust Wallet on: October 22, 2020, 11:06:01 AM
Afaik there a product of binance so I'd recommend accessing them from that site if you can instead...
For stuff like this i normally remember a few trusted websites that can link further to lesser known stuff (so I'd assume that'd work still in this case).
3190  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Question about sending bitcoin to litecoin address? on: October 21, 2020, 09:19:26 PM
2 ONLY i think.

There's something in the litecoin schematic I think that means everyone who was airdropped the funds in 2011 can claim using a bitcoin address and private key pair but the litecoin addresses changed to identify them and for other purposes. I'm not fully certain on this but I thought that's how the implementation worked...
3191  Other / Meta / Re: Why is there no Technical board in the Altcoin Section? on: October 20, 2020, 11:36:38 AM
The technical section would probably end up the same

Imo if a community is large anough, it should have its own forum or at least a few channels on social media people can use to contact other people with more experience for help.
3192  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin transfer time on: October 20, 2020, 10:35:14 AM
The op dm'd me the address and it looks to have received nothing both on blockchain.com and btc.com... I assume this is a priblem with the sender or wherever they tried to withdraw from.
3193  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin transfer time on: October 20, 2020, 10:21:07 AM
Can you post or message me the address the coins were sent to?

It could be that:
1. The transaction is yet to confirm
2. The funds won't appear until your account is verified (I don't think this is likely though if they're a good exchange - but I'm not sure I've heard of them)
3. The person sending them to you could've messed up the transaction somehow.
3194  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network FAQ on: October 19, 2020, 11:55:43 PM
It's the minimum reserve YOU would have to change, try typing to the command line
Code:
clightning /? | grep="reserve"

And see what comes up, replacing clightning with how you'd normally run it and potentially /? with -h or - -help.

I was trying to search through the docs but there was a lot of them on their github.

Well, the output of that is:

Quote
$ lightning-cli help | grep reserve
fundpsbt satoshi feerate startweight [minconf] [reserve] [locktime]
reserveinputs psbt [exclusive]
unreserveinputs psbt
Unreserve utxos (or at least, reduce their reservation)
utxopsbt satoshi feerate startweight utxos [reserve] [reservedok] [locktime]

But in the meantime, I was talking to (what I think is) a dev and he told me this is actually a bug and he started an issue on github.
https://github.com/ElementsProject/lightning/issues/4140

In less than a week, I have already stumbled into 2 bugs. On one hand, this is bad, because a noob user and a new lightning user is coming across with quite a few bugs. On the other hand, it's good because I'm kind of contributing for the enhancement of this Lightning Network implementation.

This dev tried to push me to fix the bug, as it's apparently simple to fix, but I'm too afraid of messing things up, so I'm not going to do anything without supervision.

As far as I understood, every node in the Lightning Network has these 2 settings: channel reserve and dust limit. This said, when one node (A) tries to open a channel to another node (B), node (A) needs to make sure tat it's own channel reserve parameter is equal or greater than its own dust limit. Moreover, it also needs to make sure that its own channel reserve parameter is greater or equal to node (B) dust limit parameter.

I'm not sure about this because in the meantime, this dev stopped talking to me. He's probably afaik and where I live is now time to go to bed. If I can find this dev tomorrow again, I my try to discuss with him, the fix I have in mind, in case my assumption above is true and accurate!

The dust limit is brought over from bitcoin core. I think it rpc's into core but I don't think it takes any of its settings (but I could he wrong on that one)..

I think that's stayed for cross compatibility so core can still broadcast the transactions.
3195  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Mixer Penalized by FinCEN for Violating AML Law on: October 19, 2020, 10:32:24 PM
try and cover themselves legally should governments start going after mixing services.

Yeah try sounds kinda significant there, I doubt it'd actually hold if they ended up in court in the US...

I don't think the US have come out like Europe have and said that cryptocurrencies are fairly relaxed regulation wise. This is either the government trying to make bitcoin more mainstream, trying to kill it or just a show of power for what they could do...
3196  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Legal or not: Exchange of Bitcoin between a US resident and sanctioned countries on: October 19, 2020, 08:55:43 PM
Afaik there's a term for sending money abroad to family but I can't remember it's name.

My assumption would be it's the same as standard currency. If you can transfer via PayPal, western union or a bank account then you should be able to do it with bitcoin.

If not, how are the irs going to know about it? Are you planning to transfer large amounts as this could be where a dex might be useful if they'd want to break the link between sending to a sanctioned country from theirs.

3198  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Overview of lightning network nodes owned by forum users on: October 19, 2020, 07:42:17 PM
Bump! If anyone needs the topic or wants to share their node info.

This is my c-lightning node running, for others to connect:

If everything is fine, it should be up and running 24/7. Maybe some downtime due to the fact that I'm new to lightning network and I'll still learning and experimenting. So, many times, I need to change configs, restart the node etc.

I'm running the node behind Tor so, to connect to it, you need:

Code:
User: darkv0rt3x
Node ID: 03fef777d58a529df02a3fb267690e0c9033767b555cc1c63844bb2d3498789f91
Onion address: 7ibyhyji5g5vsvf5e42bpygcp6jpyvm3zovoujt66onfkn3xuc5iceqd.onion
Port: 9537

Alias: JohnCenas

or the complete URI
Code:
03fef777d58a529df02a3fb267690e0c9033767b555cc1c63844bb2d3498789f91@7ibyhyji5g5vsvf5e42bpygcp6jpyvm3zovoujt66onfkn3xuc5iceqd.onion:9537

Quoting for reference, finally added!
3199  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network FAQ on: October 19, 2020, 07:30:32 PM
I think you're wanting to change the channel reserve limit to 573 or they can change their dust limit to 546 (that might be easier for them to do and not interfere with the channel)...
3200  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Accuracy and attention when transferring cryptocurrencies. on: October 19, 2020, 06:35:00 PM
For bitcoin addresses I'd recommend checking the first 5 and last 5 and another 5 in the middle.

Typing out addresses is quite impractical and prone to mistake. I'm not entirely sure how they managed to send to the smart contract address using a normal wallet (surely you'd pay more attention with such amounts)?

Also for larger amounts, I like to send a few hundred bucks as a test to ensure I can transfer the funds in both directions a few times first...
