Can anyone see a simple adsl modem motherboard in that picture on the main site? i can see a phone line plug (the grey port) next to a inductor coil (the yellow and black box next to it) the yellow network connector, next to a switch, next to a barrel type power plug? with the caption under the picture: "mage above: main control board + my ipod and mouse for scale." and that soldered aluminium can is EMS shield for the SoC...

downclock your ram on the video card if you are btc mining...it will make a world of difference in temps. i got mine to 150mhz each card. 10-20c cooler now.
My card doesn't like bitcoin mining it seems to get stuck in litecoin mining mode, even if i download a fresh cgminer it goes at 750khash and 0 accepted! See here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=206525So yeah I cant really clock down the RAM as that's the ideal ratio. |

On the heatsink question, I do have one concern on the center of the K64 or wherever two or more K64s share an edge (e.g. "K256"). That's centralizing a lot of heat in comparison. Just wanted to bring the topic up so that whatever heatsink selected/recommended they allow for a clear airflow path when they are placed side-by-side.
I think plain finned ones will be good for this, as you could have a fan on two of the end ones and a metal plate on the next so that air flows along in "lanes", either that or an up/down like some people are using on the asicminer blades. |

I can't say that they are the same fans, but I've been mining with 4 Gigabyte 6950's for a over a year and the fans always went bad rather regularly causing high temperatures. The good thing is, it only takes about 2 weeks for Gigabyte to fix them through RMA.
I think ill leave it for now, when the weather gets cooler or the breeze goes into my window properly it gets down to the mid 80's, I'll probably be getting rid of it before August anyway due to running out of free power! 2 weeks is far too long not to be mining for. And if it does die I can just a get a new un! Not my fault if their fans are shit quality and have to be babysitted. |

The fanspeed is 100% 24/7 with a 80mm Arctic F8 blowing on the back of the VRM heatsink, which is still painful to touch. Set up a custom fan curve so that anything above 75 degrees gets 100% fan. 3368RPM -- not quiet
3368 is your RPM at 100% fanspeed? My 7950's at 75% fanspeed run at 4200 RPM. That sounds like a problem there. I see others reporting similar issues. Which type of card though? Mines a gigabyte windforce so there are 3 fans so they may run slower, although saying that they don't seem to be kicking out as much air as they were originally. That guy's problem seems to be getting stuck at 100%. I dont mind 100% as I wont be in the same room as the miner after next week as Im moving home from uni halls, but I don't want the card to explode into flames while I'm gone! |

If not taking the moral question in consideration...
* Watercooled rigg = to expensive, atleast 100$ per card
* Lots of fans in combination with stock cooled cards = to much noice
* ASICS = no where to be found atm
Which leaves u to FCPGA mining, higher $/ Kh/s but consumes alot less power = less heat = less noice = less likely to be revealed.
Buy a bunch of them and place them inside a ATX chassie, and voila!
Where do I get those FCPGA's? \ Since you say noise isn't an issue; Just get two Delta TFB1212GHE on the intake and either tape over any airholes that are before the area in the GPUs are located, or make a nice duct with some plastic folders and electrical tape. They'll be plenty cool enough if you're replacing the entire volume of the case every second. What I meant is it used to run at 70-73 overclocked at that speed, one day it was suddenly almost 20 degrees hotter.
What is your fan speed set to? In my experience, don't leave it to the AMD/ATI drivers to adjust. Set it manually to ~75% or use cgminer's --auto-fan, whichever works better and keeps your temps down. The fanspeed is 100% 24/7 with a 80mm Arctic F8 blowing on the back of the VRM heatsink, which is still painful to touch. Set up a custom fan curve so that anything above 75 degrees gets 100% fan. 3368RPM -- not quiet Theres also fan in the PCI brackets below drawing in cold air from near the window and one at the front to expell the hot air that comes off the end of the card. Case is open too! I honestly think there might be something wrong with the card as it was running fine with the case closed when I first bought it! |
