321  Local / India / Re: Finally some News on: August 13, 2013, 12:04:33 PM
If it is a statement from RBI , it should be on their website and not coming from a newspaper.

It might be quote from someone at RBI and it might not be a official statement

They had published something on Virtual currencies last month.
We need to see who this statement is coming from to begin with.

Once TOI prints the story tomorrow, this will make some news. Regardless, this is the first bite that the RBI have offered on a positive note for Bitcoin in India.
Lets see how this goes.

Thanks for the update benson.! Hopefully it is good news.
Looking forward to it!

This post proves my point.

Check out the wiring in those picks. What a clusterf%ck. I don't see how such a setup scales well.

It depends on what is your priority. For me, i want my rig to run with atleast 99.5% uptime without me bothering to check on it every now and then. I don't want the drivers / cgminer to crash and the host requiring my intervention.

I have changed the config of the rig since the pics and nw it can hold atleast 4 blades per stand.
At the moment, my setup is more of less like a 24/7 operation. I hardly spend time maintaining it.

Look at my setup here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=205369.msg2346339#msg2346339

I like your setup, but I'm sure you spent a good amount of time putting that together.

It looks like the next bitcoin diffculty is going to go from 37 million to over 51 million in the next day or so! I'm not buying anything else until the difficulty levels out a bit. The difficulty is currently increasing at an alarming rate, so either the value of bitcoin needs to rise or else we're about to see a serious ASIC mining hardware price bubble pop...

http://bitcoindifficulty.com

Thank you.! Yes indeed i did spend some time.

+1 with regards to the difficulty. The btc rates have been stagnant (in and around $100) for over a month now.

Hey El,

I noticed that btcguild doesnot have 2FA option. Is that on your to-do list or you simply donot want it right now.?

You can always just lock the email and payout options.
+1. That is other way to secure it for sure.

I hope the new blades are a bit more user friendly.

I actually thought about ordering an old blade, but decided against it because it just seems like a giant PITA to get working.

Basically, for an old blade, the user needs to:
- Hack up an ATX power supply to power the blade.
- Come up with some sort of mounting solution for the board.
- Supply your own fans.
- Connect and config via an ethernet connection.
- Run a stratum proxy on a host computer.

Basically, running at 13 GHs with an old blade seems to require a bunch of kludges.

Hopefully, with a new blade you'll be able to connect to a computer via USB, connect the blade to a power supply using a standard connector, fire up cgminer and mine away.

Am I expecting too much?  Smiley

I disagree with this partly. Probably USB might be the easiest but it has its share of headaches. I feel USB's have lesser uptime as compared to connecting the blades using the ethernet cable. I have had multiple blades in the past and now i have a couple of blades along with a bunch of USB BE's running out of the same host.
When comparing both, i feel the hashrate and uptime that i get from the blade is tad bit higher as compared to the USB BE's and i have had my share of headaches (problems with other USB devices including my keyboard and mouse) when installing the zadig driver to turn my USB's to COM ports for the cgminer to see it.

I have had my blades running for like 2+ months now and the last downtime was like 7 days or so ago (that too because my host computer crashed) and have powered all the blades using the corsair CX 750M and the PSU has been rock solid. Fans will be necessary even for the new blades. On the other hand, USB's keep getting kicked out now and then..

If you follow this extensive guide, then it is seamless and cost efficient. - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=205369.0

I would have brought more blades but i don't have a place to keep the new rig unless i move to a bigger apartment + the current price of the old blade hardly ROI's. And with the current pricing of the blades, i don't think it would be a wise decision to move apts just for this.
327  Local / Mining (India) / Re: BitFury Miner on: August 11, 2013, 07:44:20 AM
Bitfury project developing in good pace. Giving chips for testing for free resulted in many different PCB designs and now it difficult to count number of available boards : 1chip usb, 6 chips, 8 chips and 16 chips and even more.

Private pool is funtioning and giving 8trh at the moment https://ghash.io/

Chips for sale available 1 btc per chips ad less for larger amount. Naked PCB available and PCBs with all parts soldered available too, Just solder chips your self and you are good to go.

That may be a good news for those who ordered Bitfury and not so good for those who own 1st gen chips, as Bitfury going to add 170 trh to network very soon.

October - November Scene is going empty pockets of miner. Paradigm shift, currently cost of mining devices and ROI was one of main restricting factors for entering mining. From October onwards we may have many choices, available to ship now and on dirt cheap prices. Avalon 55nm devices promised to be shipped direct without pre orders from mid October and it will have server blade design (very nice). Bitfury second batch mid October too and in November we will have new chips from ASICminer seem to be 55nm too.

Second batch of Bitfury promissed to be continuous one. Owners of Bitfury chips very eager to sale them now when it still command high price, because when difficulty will jump to 100-150 mils, no body will be interested to buy them at all.

Future is bright for those who has money to spend on new mining devices. And not so bright for those who planing to recover their investments from 1st gen chips. Likely for me ASICminer are offering compensation for 1st and 2nd auctions blades and I may have opportunity to convert my blades into new 55nm devices in November.

+1. Am eagerly waiting for my Bitfury kits scheduled to be delivered in August.!

@PinWheel : Is ASICMINER offering compensation to those who purchased blades.? Can you throw some light on this topic. Thanks,
328  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official ASICMINER Hardware Information on: August 10, 2013, 12:51:43 PM
Now that the USB buyers are getting coupons and are eligible to buy another one at a lower price.
Any word if there is any coupon program for buyers of the blades during the 1st, 2nd and 3rd auction paying >= 50BTC .?

I feel betrayed since we are the first and the foremost guys who vetted trust in ASICMINER hardware and got the sales going.

Honestly, anyone buying the blades was well aware of the price vs. hashrate at the time and has benefited from before the difficulty rose dramatically.  This is why people are being so cautious about hardware purchases now, as 10BTC / 5GH may sound like a good thing until you realize just how quickly difficulty will rise.  Even buying old/new blade as soon as they are available is a risk because you're hope is to get hardware online before any larger Bitfury implementations, BFL suddenly solves their supply chain issues (hahahahaha, hahahaha, just had to say it), or Avalon manages to fight off the Triads and ships some chips.

Thanks for your thoughts. It is fair enough and makes sense. That is what we all thought when we invested in blades.
However, the same philosophy goes to USB BE's buyers as well. But now they are being compensated. My question, then why not us who invested in ASICMINER hardware earlier than them.

wish I didn't go balls deep with terrahash, might have had some cash to get a few of these!~

But im wondering what the new blade prices are going to be....
New blades are very similar to these. Will either be fixed at the low or high hashrate of these old blades. Will be around the same price.

Are these the new gen blades which are set at 10 GH/s or are these the old set which can be OC'ed to run at 13 GH/s

My very short tutorial on Linode is up!  It is basically the same as Digital Ocean (Updated my OP)

Let me know of your experiences.  I am wondering if I should add another node.

Mate go slow. See for a couple of days and then choose to add nodes.
Don't spend more than you are making.

Primecoin is very amateur and is prone to attacks.
332  Local / Marketplace (India) / Re: [Update - Aug - 2013] Selling BTC's - Regular Exchange on: August 09, 2013, 04:19:12 PM
Just held Escrow Dewlance/ americandesi.

Very very smooth.

As today was a bank holiday, americandesi used IMPS to complete the deal.

Both buyer and seller were very communicative.

+1

Thank you Benson. Just as a FYI. as mentioned by Benson, i had informed dewlance that i will do NEFT in the terms of the transaction but was unable to do it once the transaction started.
So i had to do IMPS and the extra fee for the IMPS was absorbed by me.
333  Local / Marketplace (India) / Re: [WTS] bitcoin for Giftbig.com e-gift card on: August 09, 2013, 03:02:35 PM
In order of e-gift card on giftbig, he has put his email id instead of mine. So he got gift card no. and pin no. He forwarded gift card no. and pin no. I redeemed gift card and giftbig told me that e-gift cards which I ordered using redemption will be sent by email. However, till now I have not received any email from giftbig regarding shipping of e-gift cards. Total I sent 4 mails, but no reply. I called today but today is holiday, so no one answering.

Moderator,
I can show you proof. I have order details. So if you want to confirm with them, I will forward order details to you.

I dont know whether it has cancelled or not...Fact is that, I have not received e-gift card which I ordered.

Hey Bitmit,

I took a look at some more details and I see that he has sent you the card and that you have redeemed it.

Please confirm..

He has shown me the proof as well.

Do let us know if the deal is completed.

My take on this situation

Bitmit was suggested by samar and not by street jammer, and it has been accepted by you that the gift card was indeed sent by street jammer.  As far as street jammer is concerned, he cannot be held responsible for bitmit's lethargy and whatever else.  He should get his btc.

+1

Bitmit_samar contacted me first asking to sell the btc's for e-giftcard.
There were too many unknowns so i declined to do the transaction.
My take.! bitmit is technically not an escrow. At the end of the day, it is still handled by the same person who is buying/selling using bitmit account.
334  Local / Mining (India) / Re: Primecoin [XPM] mining on VPS on: August 09, 2013, 02:58:38 PM
You do make a fair point, I have been running Digital Ocean for 15 hours now ..and I have nothing! With 4 droplets ... ~500pps each (2000 pps) in total ....I am bound to get something in a week.

I do not plan on investing more than $50 on VPS mining ...and hopefully I will get something out of it. At the present cost, ROI is negative. But I think primecoin might have increased Value once BTC-e starts trading it. After all,  since litecoin ... it is the only one with true innovation.

Besides, in 2 - 4 weeks  mining on CPU would be a fool's errand if it is not already now. I plan on making the best out of it till then. Linode (8 Cpu)  seems to be working at 2200 - 2600 pps! ..so it may be a better investment than DigitalOcean

Amazon EC2 might be better, but I have not tried it yet ..... If there is interest, I will post the Linode tutorial here.

How much does linode cost you. Can you share the setup for linode.?

Great News Friedcat.
Any updates on the pricing.? or any ETA when the pricing will be released.?
336  Local / Mining (India) / Re: Primecoin [XPM] mining on VPS on: August 09, 2013, 12:17:09 PM
Good tutorial dumbo. Thanks for that.

Am aware of Primecoin and i tried mining it last week. I mined it for about a day with around 500 - 600 pps and generated only 0.20 primecoin. As per my calculation, we cannot even get back the investment.

So seeing that trend, if we mine on digital ocean with 1 droplet which mines at 400 - 500 pps, the big question is will we be able to get back the investment.

If we do get it back, then what is the profit we are making on it.
337  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Which USB hub to use with Block Erupters or K1? A List. on: August 08, 2013, 02:59:52 PM

Probably would burn the circuit because the hub is 5V and power source is 12 V. Someone correct me if am wrong. But the voltage should be same and we can work with higher amp. correct.?
I burned by wifi router recently in one of the experiments like these.
