321  Economy / Economics / Re: Tulip Mania on: January 23, 2018, 05:39:12 PM
People often compare the speculative bubble of Tulip Mania hundreds of years ago with that of Bitcoin. Gold also tends to have speculative bubbles when stock markets crash.

I've been pondering the Tulip thing and the whole concept seems flawed to me for one simple reason:

A Tulip bulb could cost many thousands of dollars, but wouldn't most people have planted it to gain more tulip bulbs with the aim of selling them, ultimately flooding the market and inevitably driving prices down again?

As far as I can remember, the tulip mania thing was actually caused by a variety of tulip which developed a virus which
affected the colour of the petal, it was quite unique and highly sought after, but was just a flower.
Bitcoin on the other hand has a real world use.
Here is an interesting thread, why is Bitcoin valuable - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2773148.msg28764408#msg28764408
and a quote from that thread

What is Censorship Resistance and Why Would It Make Bitcoin Valuable?

Cash being an exception, payments usually run through central payment processors such as PayPal, VISA or your local bank.

This works fine, until it doesn't. PayPal is known for more or less randomly freezing merchant accounts, essentially locking them out of their money. Credit Card providers such as VISA have blocked payments in the past -- look up what happened to Wikileaks as an example. Local banks can go bust during bank runs and shut down accounts if they find your transaction suspicious -- whatever that may mean.

Nothing of the above apply to Bitcoin. Bitcoin takes the power and responsibility away from third parties and puts it back in the hand of the actual owner. Hence it being censorship resistance, an attribute that has been rather unusual for a currency -- until now.
322  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-01-22] Bitcoin To Drop As Low As $1000 This Year, Wall Street CIO Predicts on: January 23, 2018, 04:56:20 PM
Well, what is their basis for such prediction? They have to at least state some basis for us to take their opinion into consideration. But of course, we have to take all opinions with a grain of salt so as to not falter big time. There is no harm in being cautious in the first place. Nonetheless, there being insufficient data to rely on such prediction, I think this statement by Wall Street CIO is just like any other publication that is intended to destroy the integrity of Bitcoin's market in 2018 for their own vested interests.

i agree, my opinion weighs just as much as any "chief investment officer"
anything can happen in crypto as anyone with only one eye on it over the last 6 months would have noticed.
Now that it has been mentioned the market may very well respond downwards but if it does i cannot believe it would stay there   Huh

that is pretty much it in a nutshel!
we hear countries banning bitcoin etc. essentially governments censoring it from their public.
The only way possible to effectively do this is "turning off the internet",
so with that not going to happen your bitcoins are controlled (depending on where you store them) by you.
Spending bitcoins does not require a middle man, it is peer-to-peer transaction.
And not to forget there is a limited supply which counts for something.
324  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: 🔵 Experiment: Turn $1000 into $100.000 [?] on: January 23, 2018, 11:56:57 AM
I think it is more likely you will turn it into $100.

I 100% disagree.
This is the best time to start a project like this, while the market is contracting.
Ok it might contract a little more but in 4, 5 or 6 months that 1000$ will have expanded considerably.
If we take the total crypto market cap on the 8th of January which was over 830,000,000,000$ it is feasable we can see that again.
So if the OP plays the game well and is able to advantage of the expanding markets he should meet his target,
even half that target will be a nice achievement.
325  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Total market cap €400B and falling on: January 23, 2018, 11:24:44 AM
From its peak of €800B, alt coin market cap today stands in low €400B and falling along with continuously falling price of BTC which is hovering around €8k now. This is real market crash, not just typical correction. People who invested like crazy in December and early Jan are now sitting in deep red with empty pockets. New investment money would be very hard to come by in coming days and that is one of the reasons why markets aren't picking up and remain stagnant.

i think we are going to see new investments in 2018,
there will be new investors with new FIAT to put in
and the will be returning investors with new FIAT and liquidated crypto ready to get back in too.
i dont think any alts will die, look at DOGE for gods sake, some poeple are buying into it _ _ _ again.

GREAT!
News about hitbtc listing?

This is NOT a GREAT news  Undecided

Personally I dont like HITBTC, of all the exchanges I visit I find them to have the biggest fees.
Fees to lodge, fees to exchange and fees to withdraw for anything under 1000$ worth, its too much.

327  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What to do in this Dip on: January 22, 2018, 12:22:10 PM
as you said yourself its a buyers market so I would buy more.
eventhough the bigger coins are still expensive if you can at all buy some of that now that they are priced low.
oh yes be patient and hodl what you have.
328  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: A cautionary tale about HW wallets from resellers on: January 22, 2018, 09:54:12 AM
I heard about this recently all right.
Oh man the scammers seem always to be one step ahead.
Sorry for that guy but I suppose if you dont know, you dont know.
It once again reminds us to have security to the forefront of our minds when dealing with crypto,
and to be super paranoid.
329  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: NEW concept of P2P Exchange. on: January 22, 2018, 09:46:56 AM
I dont use any P2P exchanges at the moment but the fees on some exchanges are crippling for small transactions.
For me I would definitely use a P2P exchange if it could reduce the Cost of transactions and offer top security.
If we take the idea of Bitcoin we shouldnt need a middle man in order to trade.
I have X you want X, lets trade, simple.
330  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Price stabilization on: January 22, 2018, 09:36:25 AM
its the nature of crypto to be unstable.
there are a lot of weak hands and investors who act on the slightest bit of hype
also the markets can be manipulated because of unregulation.
A lot of people actually like the fact that it is unstable, it makes for good trading,
if you can read it properly that is.
331  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Advice on my portfolio for 2018, too many coins! on: January 21, 2018, 06:17:32 PM
Im not sure there is a lot of risk in the above portfolio,
the op has chosen a good spread in his portfolio.
Diversification is a great way to limit the risk and most coins have their pump time so there are chances for gains for people willing to trade when a coin is rising.
332  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why does bitcoin crash occasionally? on: January 21, 2018, 05:24:09 PM
Fear of the bubble bursting i think was a factor in the correction we had last week.
There was a lot of talk and hype about crypto being in a bubble which was going to burst,
Which didnt happen.
I think any major hype at all in the markets and a lot of people will jump on it.
We saw this before christmas when we almost got to 20k and we saw it again last week.
333  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Apparently you can get rich even with scam coins. on: January 21, 2018, 09:19:34 AM
THATS what scares me with this market right now. As long as something says crypto currency it will go up a crazy amount. It’s all based off speculation. It doesn’t matter if there is actual technology backing up the product. Get into any ICO and you’ll be  sure to make money. It’s scary

Yes thats what frustrates me at the moment about crypto.
When a new ico comes out people only buy into it with the intentions of dumping when it hits the exchanges.
This helps to provide a market for scam ico's
The markets are controlled and manipulated a lot of the time by whales and pump groups and some people actually think its ok to join in.
Some people dint care about scams as long as they can take part and not get scammed themselves.
334  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Dealing with dishonest bitcoiners on: January 20, 2018, 09:39:32 PM
The best way is a trusted escrow with a detailed reputation if dealing with someone without a positive trust record
There are even escrows offering a free service and you can tip them if you want.
Sorry you got scammed.
What is it with crypto and scammers?
I know its different but i have over 600 positive points on ebay as a buyer and seller and never had anyone saying they never got their items and anything i paid for i always got and also most items are posted by regular untracable post.
335  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: GREAT CRYPTO DEPRESSION on: January 20, 2018, 01:18:35 PM
Absolutely,
still here with my crypto intact.
I managed to make a little gain from last weeks drop.
The choice was/is massive with good opportunities to broaden the portfolio,
so i decided to get some more Tron and got into Cappasity and Funfair also.
336  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-1-19]Bitcoin Had a Strange Week. Does It Matter? on: January 20, 2018, 10:47:14 AM
Good question.
I think what happened over the last week matters immensely.

There are a lot of dynamics at play as always, for me it looks now that the value of crypto was over inflated
Particularly bitcoin. So many people hopped on to ride the train which seemed unstopable and i would say
many got severely burned last week and are reluctant to get back in, hence we see a slow return in BTC value.

The big 50% fall in crypto has attracted even more negative press and may kead to more countries seeking
to introduce regulations and control, im not sure this is a good or bad thing.
Did i hear that france and germany are looking at regulation's?

Are more people investing a greater percentage of their crypto holdings into alt currencies rather than bitcoin?
Has bitcoins fees and scaling issues finally caught up with it?
Are these some of the reasons why bitcojns value gas not shot back up as i thought it would?

Just my thoughts
337  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: BITPANDA on: January 19, 2018, 11:23:15 AM
I have used BITPANDA about 2 or 3 times in the past both for deposits and withdrawals.
I did have an issue once before and if i remember correctly i made a silly mistake where i made the initial deposit setup on bitpanda and then cancelled it
I then made a second deposit setup but sent the sepa payment with the first deposit setup reference.
That was a stupid mistake but it was all sorted out in the end after a few days.
There has to be something in error somewhere,
I have never read negative news about bitpanda,
they are not going to scam you for 100€
338  Economy / Economics / Re: [POLL] What share of your savings are in Crypto\Fiat right now? on: January 19, 2018, 10:40:08 AM
for the last few months i had 50% crypto and about 30% Fiat and 20% Gold/Silver.
Im not one to have everything in a single place, i like to spread my investments.
and of course in crypto i have that spread to between a number of different currencies.
today the percentage is greater for crypto about 75% because of the low prices,
I will possibly bring that back to 50% as the values climb
339  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: New exchange wishes to get some advises. on: January 19, 2018, 10:17:11 AM
my first question is WHY?
there are so many exchanges out there already, what are you planning to offer that these dont have already?
The biggest drawback for me that I can see is that for new people looking to get into crypto,
they first have to buy Bitcoin with FIAT through an exchange like Coinbase for example.
Then they have to transfer that to an exchange with a lot of listings like Binance,
and this is an extra cost and a little tedious, I know I found it confusing at the start.

340  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin uptrend now? on: January 18, 2018, 10:27:01 AM
its a tricky time as we can see from the markets.
Bitcoin is hovering around 11,000$ and 12,000$ so i think people are a little reluctant to jump back in.
so it is either a "dead cat bounce" scenario or when it goes up its going to be like a feeding frenzy.
