322  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / POLL: "YOUR Bitcoin Story"... Has Bitcoin Changed Your Life for Better or Worse? on: February 15, 2015, 09:35:03 AM
Bitcoin is, without a doubt, a touchy subject with many people. They've heard all the bad press:  Silk Road; Drugs; Crime; Funding Terrorism; Exchange Collapses; and this has likely drowned out any positive press Bitcoin has received (which is in all honesty, mainstream media speaking, none). People involved in the crypto-community have digressed that in some ways they now feel a bit ostracized from social circles and family units due to their involvement in this emerging field.

Bitcoin and Cryptos for many has changed their body clock. They feel the need to handle their crypto related work late at night when all is quiet and others are asleep.

Bitcoin has for a lucky few brought them vast riches. For others moderate gains.  And others have been wiped out. Whether it be due to losses in trading Alt-Coins and all the scams and scandals that took place last year; gambling losses on dice-sites, or simply bad timing with entry/exit points; it can't be argued that Crypto's have in fact ruined peoples finances.

The Good, the Bad, the Ugly... what has been your experience. Not simply financially. How has your life changed on all levels. Spiritually; your sense of well being. Your self-esteem, and your relationships with family, and friends as well as co-workers. And yes, last but not least, financially.

Are you better of now than you were Pre-Bitcoin? Or do you wish you had never gotten involved?  Perhaps simply taken another road and pursued other endeavors?

What is YOUR Bitcoin Story?

(POLL RESULTS ARE SHOWN AFTER YOU VOTE)

DISCLOSURE: I have chosen to keep this topic moderated. While I typically do not feel moderated topics promote the open type of community, freedom of speech, and anti-censorship so many of this board's members believe in; I feel this could be a touchy subject. And simply want to make sure we stay on topic, respectful, and most importantly honest.  i hope you will chose to share your story.
323  Economy / Service Announcements / Available for Private Rent/Lease : 272 HT Cores of CPU Fast Xeon/Intel Power! on: February 15, 2015, 03:58:40 AM
Hey Folks,

I'm simply testing the waters to see if there is interest in this option.

I have a quite a lot of CPU power which is Idle roughly 60% of the week - or more depending.

I have a software build that can run a CPU process, auto bind to cores, when the system goes idle (no user and no overhead = 100% Idle). The software basically can start a process/run a batch file once the system goes idle for 5 minutes.

The workstations go idle on and of throughout the day, some are idle all day.  Then most if not all go 100% idle from 6pm to 8am the following morning.

In total:

( 20 ) 2600K 4 Core (8 Hyper Threaded) with 32-64 GB 1600mhz Ram           - 80 Cores / 160 with HT
( 1 ) Dual Xeon E5-2697 v2 with 128 GB 1800mhz RAM                    - 24 Xeon Cores / 48 with HT
( 8 ) 4770K 4 Core (8 Hyper Threaded) with 16 GB Ram                   - 32 Cores / 64 Cores with HT

If there is interest in working out a deal on us running a process/bat/mining application with the above setup, where I could guarantee >65% Idle Run Time Per Week - feel free to reach out.

I don't want to manage the hassle of running this myself - following profitability of coins, etc.

If you were to set up your miner/batch to mine to a stratum proxy or server you could redirect the traffic as needed/hashpower as needed - and the processes would simply be running constantly on the systems when idle.

PM if any interest!

Cheers!

My brother was from the top ten posters and he is not greyed , Highest posters have a green cell at the end (look the Second month document Document)
That's at random depending on whether I copy and paste usernames from bitcointalk or type them in.

Thanks both! I understood. And, highest posters are all those who make more than 300 posts or highest X no. of posters?

   -MZ

Highest 10 no. of posters.

Hey Marco,

Please see my post above. Also, just a thought - and please don't take this as a complaint by any means. I realize reconciling the monthly totals is likely a headache. I think I saw a post where you were looking for some sort of automation bot to count posts (understandable).

I think - and this is just food for thought - that perhaps some consideration should be given, not just to your campaign, which is of course great, but all sig campaigns... to Posters who post new threads that provide high value information and receive high view counts.

Just my two cents; but a member who starts a new thread which is a Guide, or a Poll, which receives a large audience viewership and engagement - would in my eyes, be of higher value advertising impression wise than just random posts in threads. An active community member who starts a thread that receives 1000s or 10,000s of views by hundreds of members, is certainly of value - especially when he posts actively within that thread.

Just a thought... I know that might be tough to implement, so just my two cents.

Cheers,

I'm listed as I need to re-enroll from Month 2 - but I joined in late in the month, made 40 posts. I made close to 40 posts in 1 week.

Do I need to re-enroll?

Sorry not sure why I would be kicked considering I joined mid month, but I'm still listed on the roster.

Thanks,

Strato

EDIT:  I started with 1132 posts, and an now at 1245 - so that's 113 posts in the 5 weeks... I realize some were just replies/perhaps not considered constructive in terms of length... but I've also started a number of threads that get high views.

Example of one:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=945775.0

2700 views just on this thread alone.

Thanks please let me know.

Where on the site?

EDIT:

The only place i see this on the site is on the main page and thats solely because it doesnt differentiate between rented and not rented. It just shows the top 50 rentals.

Ahmed

SHA 256 - Sort to only show Large Farms - there are RENT NOW units after rented.

EDIT:  Seems to be ok now.

Rigs are also showing up way out of order.  For instance there are available rigs showing up AFTER rented rigs - so basically you don't even know what's really available rig wise price wise unless you scan the whole list.

Man what happened?

329  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTS] 12 AntMiner S3+ B7 ASICs - Minty - Rock Solid Units - No Errors - LOOK! on: February 15, 2015, 12:10:57 AM
I am letting go of a total of (12) Bitmain AntMiner S3+ Batch 7 Units from our Farm.

These units are currently up and running hashing away. They run perfectly without any flaws. The miners I am selling are the ones quoted here in the below screenshots. Know exactly what you are getting-- These miners are clean, dust free, no issues, run cool, no errors, no x's. Solid!

As you can see from the below chart - the units I am selling here are all fully stable units. Little to no rejects. No Xs on the Blades.

I am selling the units priced at rates that reflect the stable hash-rate at 69 F Room Temperature.  These units have been running stable at these speeds since installation.

I fully guarantee your order to arrive to you ready to hash at the rate/price you select. Select your stable hashrate miner - and that is what you will get. I tested all of these miners and tuned them when we set up to hash at the best speed with ZERO X's.  This way you know exactly what miner you are getting and what it is capable of. Check my Trust!

PRICES (PRORATED BASED ON STABLE FREQUENCY RATE)

225.00 (450gh) : $116.75
237.50 (477gh) : $122.75
243.50 (490gh) : $126.00
250.00 (500gh) : $134.50

I also have (5) Corsair Gold 850W PSUs that have never been used. Stickers still in tact. Purchased from Amazon.com. All cables still sealed in Bag.  With purchase of a miner order; I am offering these units at  $115.00.

These have never been powered on. I will offer a full refund if there are any issues and pay return shipping. These were simply extras we never used. The plastic wrap was removed from the box, but the unit's were never powered on. All stickers, plastic wraps, zip ties, are all original never opened. Again these are brand new, never used, under warranty. I would not be surprised that if we see a strong upsurge in price, miners would become very very hard to come by and sold at a primo price.

If, hypothetically speaking of course, we say BTC rise to $500, $600, or higher levels; manufacturers of mining equipment would adjust prices accordingly.

And in my opinion we see these manufacturers pulling items from the shelves - that might be a sign that the big players are anticipating a move upwards- knowing they could sell the unit on even a moderate correction back downwards in price yet seize the mining returns in the mean time.

Just my two cents.

331  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [GUIDE] Strato's Antminer S5 Vertical Mounting Setup Guide - OC with Less Heat on: February 10, 2015, 10:17:31 AM
I've tried being nice to you but everything I post you object to even when you know its right. Like you claiming that my mega link for 12/16 firmware with an identical MD5 is a corrupted version with injected bad things. Literally I can make a post in any antminer thread, and oh look you randomly wander in and 100% refute everything I've said.

You clearly have an ulterior agenda here, care to share? I would also insist that you make a scam accusation thread as you're conviction appears so strong.

Keep it on topic please ..... and DO NOT try to be nice to me, just state and respond to (the) facts. Ulterior agenda against you ....? Come off it and do not flatter yourself, honestly, why would anyone have an axe to grind with you ..... ?

That's the thing though, it doesn't matter WHAT I post - you 100% refute anything I say. And more so than any normal person would...

I am going to lock this thread if it continues to go astray. The point of this thread had nothing to do with overclocking AT ALL. It had to do with the fact that I came to find that positioning the S5 units in a vertical position allowed for better cooling. Better cooling means higher frequencies "could" be possible.

The wiki post is in my opinion not credible. Bitmain advertises the product in their own thread - written BY Bitmain - as a product with Overclock Potential.

No where does it state on the site, in the manual, within the user console under Frequency, to do so at your own risk. NO WHERE.

Dogie also completely "Dodged" my question to prove if he was not just some robot app.

I take anything he says as, and would recommend to others to consider doing the same- as opinion only. This is not to say that he does not provide information which may, or may not be valid. I am just saying from what I can gather, there is no evidence to support he is a representative of Bitmain, and Bitmain has yet to comment on the Warranty issue themselves.

Let's stay on topic guys.

What I can't get over, as other are stating, is why is there no top or bottom? The cheap plastic sides are bad enough. Why couldn't you provide a plastic top and bottom.

I can't directly answer your question, but I've tested closing top and bottom off. It moves temps ~1.5C, not record breaking, and that's SEALED top and bottom rather than more plates which won't seal.

I have ordered my first S5. Got to see how mining works with them. I have been mining with GPUs now for over a year.

Do you think it is more profitable to switch from GPU mining to ASIC mining via Antminer S5 for example? I don't have to pay for electricity anyways.
Therefore I could sell my GPUs (6x R9 280x and 3x r9 290) and switch them for ASICs. But lately GPU mining is dieing so hard. It was fun early, when coinlaunches were made. But there are so less coinlaunches in last time because of all the scams. The cards have been running on Nicehash since over 2-3 months now.

I would have thought that you're losing more in GPU depreciation than you're mining, surely? What coin are you on?

I have been running them on Nicehash lately. But as I meantioned, I don't have to pay for electricity at the moment. But the circuits are limited, I actually don't know how much I can after all plug into the wall  Grin

I couldn't find out now at all which were good fans to hook up on the S5s to keep them more quiet. And can I power 2 S5s with one EVGA Supernova 1300, or even with a Corsair Platimax 1200i? http://www.corsair.com/en-us/ax1200i-digital-atx-power-supply-1200-watt-80-plus-platinum-certified-fully-modular-psu

Yes you can run 2 S5 off of 1 EVGA 1300W Gold Supernova. The 2 S5 at factory 350MHZ pulls about 1200W at the wall. I would not recommend the Corsair 1200W simply because the cost difference is not worth it $310 Corsair vs $170 EVGA 1300W. The efficiency difference between Gold and Platinum PSUs is slim, and you would probably end up getting the same efficiency because the Corsair would be at 100% load, where the EVGA would only be at a 90% load. Also you have zero room for overclocking on the Corsair and you might even need to underclock to fit both.

I have smaller fans on mine and they pull together, 1170W at the wall. I'm running 120mm Delta replacement fans that push about 150 CFM.

Photo of 2 S5 running on 1 EVGA 1300W. http://www.411px.com/S5porn.jpg

Thank you for your response.
I'm selling my GPUs already, some have been even sold. But somehow I'm a little bit afraid to switch all into Antminers. I somehow got used to my GPUs Cheesy but seems that era ended for me Sad. As I stated there is no electricity costs for me. And right now I do own 2 EVGA 1300 SuperNOVA and also the Corsair AX1200i. I don't have to buy them anymore. Did you have room to overclock your S5s with the EVGA? For the Corsair I guess this is what will be the problem. Guess I will have to underclock. But first I will run about 4 S5s. All powered by the EVGAs. Eventually I'll get a 5th, which will be hooked onto the Corsair and maybe a 6th one will follow. But that depends. Maybe next month or later, and if it will be still worthy then is the other question. My main concern is just about the noise. Did anybody measure decibels on the s5s? Right now even my 290s go up to 70 db. Guess sooner or later I will have to swap the fans on the S5s.

From personal experience you will not be able to run (2) S5 units in overclock on a single 1300 G2. I own both 1300s and the 1200xi as well.

Some options to consider would be to pair the the 1300 with a 850; and run the 2 PSUs to run 3 miners. Then overclock to your circuit breakers limits.

333  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [GUIDE] Strato's Antminer S5 Vertical Mounting Setup Guide - OC with Less Heat on: February 09, 2015, 12:09:54 PM
Dogie is wrong that it is not cooler at least in my case.  It is cooler this way with 1 unit in a 12 by 12 by 7.5 very well insulated room.

That's not what I was saying. Given a homogeneous environment its not going to make any difference. If you take it to an extreme of a single 600W unit in a unit with a window open, of course the floor is going to be cooler.

This is simply a case of if dogie did not suggest the idea, its a bad idea. The OP clearly stated that he's got several S5's in the vertical configuration and philipma1957 is simply confirming that  it works for a single unit too! What is so hard to understand about that?

My only issue is Dogie; he was helpful with the wiring diagram for using two PSUs with 3 miners; but more often then not he seems misinformed on a lot of different topics. I am not even 100% convinced he actually works for Bitmain or just self appointed himself.  But that's a whole other issue.

So because I suggested you should add a "this will void your warranty" disclaimer, you take it personally? Either way I'd rather you not like me then customers' ability to use their warranty be damaged, should they need it.

No, the OP said you seem misinformed on a lot of different topics and that he was not 100% sure you actually work for Bitmain. I actually know the OP's sentiment to be accurate, and there is nothing personal about that in my or OP's case. As the OP said, that is borne true by your fabricated terms of warranty which you have been peddling all over this forum for your own selfish, self gratification (there's a special term for that ..... I am sure you know what it is).

I can confirm that I noticed an improvement in temps on a vertically positioned S3. I only run it for a few hours on a day that was warmer than it has been in the last week and the temps on both blades were down by 3 and 5 respectively (whatever units they use) for the duration. I need to get a more sturdy mesh on which to deploy them for the long term so I'll do this when I next get some free time over the coming weekend.

To further add, and I mean this half jokingly and half not so much; is that I almost want to simply believe that Dogie isnt even an actual human, rather some sort of software chat bot, with high intelligence for communication in forums.

The reason I say that is his replies to posts almost never address the issues he is commenting on accurately. They seem to stray off topic, or ignore the spirit of the original post altogether. It just very much seems like recycled babble.

Either that or his English comprehension is just poor, and doesn't fully understand what he's reading, or what the responses he posts actually communicate.

Dogie; a test (which I feel even the most sophisticated chat bot would not be able to solve). If a tree was cut down with an axe in the middle of a forest, and no one was around to hear the sound. Would it make a sound?

Wink

Bitmain has still made ZERO comment on the warranty - or lack there of. So I take your claim with a grain of salt - as it was written by you and only appears burried in some obscure forum on some wiki - where ever that is.

I have ready to go - in their original boxes with all packaging - in fantastic shape - all working - 40 Sapphire 280x by Radeon. (Purple Box).

I have another 20 which are still on risers but could be put back in their boxes.

I have about 24 270x cards - they are the Radeon Cards (Red box - would have to check exact models - it's a mix on the 270x).

And I have 8 7870s - 4 of which are brand new - never opened.

This topic has gone astray and no longer serves it's initial purpose of discussing the advertising of services which use within their "BRAND NAME" a word which definition is FRAUD.

Any company can run a scam, rob, or steal from their customers. But when someone sets up a service and associates it with the overall movement of virtual currencies - of which are already under fierce fire from countless groups all with their own personal agenda, my point was simply that these posts/services/ads are only ammunition for killing cryptos or further tarnishing the communities reputation.

I thank the forum mods, Heros, Legendarys and all those who added constructive input to this topic. I am sure it will be discussed elsewhere. I have come across posts in just the last week where people who used to frequent the Gambling Forum on BCT have abandoned it altogether because of the flood of Ponzi advertisements.

I am sure eventually something will be done. It would have been nice to hear from Theymos on the issue - as I personally; and I feel I am not alone, consider this an important issue that needs to be addressed by the forum's top leadership.

Regardless, let's continue this debate elsewhere. This thread is now locked.

Overclocking voids the warranty? Then why is it a drop down option in the control panel of your software which ships with the units.

Secondly; why is it not listed on that submenu (Advanced) as WARNING saying that clocking above 350 will void ones warranty.
Antminer warranty is like dog shit in the street.
Antminer dont have any warranty.only warranty is he first take money for miner and delivery usually used miner.
i have recive one  s1 miner whit totally broken fan mount,he sey bay one in localy shop. next time you bay s-1 i send you replacement because post is exspensive i bay more 7x s1 and never receive this broken fan.

I'll have to say I havent had that experience. I ordered roughly 50 of the S3+ units - and only one was defective - just a bad fan - it happens. They were super responsive and helped me get it swapped out.

As far as the S5 units - the ones I received (24 of them) - they were definitely used. There was a lot of dust build up on the fan blades - you could tell these had been run for some time.

HOWEVER - I think it goes without saying that when you buy a miner from Bitmain or any miner manufacturer - they are first used to mine then sold as they roll in their newest generation miners for themselves. Their business model depends on that.

I would have liked the units I received to not have so much dust build up. But all 24 of them are working just as they were promised - even better. And I replaced the fans anyways.

My only issue is Dogie; he was helpful with the wiring diagram for using two PSUs with 3 miners; but more often then not he seems misinformed on a lot of different topics. I am not even 100% convinced he actually works for Bitmain or just self appointed himself.  But that's a whole other issue.

So for me Bitmain has been great. Just wanted to throw in my experience there.

yes, painters tape is good too

why i said to raise it, is because the fan is really obstructed the way you have it now.
the difference in temp from floor to 10inches above floor is almost none, but a good airflow is best!

I will attempt to raise it later you may be correct about the  fan blockage.

The tape seems to be helping.

this is a new number with window closed. very good hashrate but early.

Philip,

Have you found that on your test miners that there are Frequencies that work at higher points rather than lower?  Example - I have most of my miners at 392.75 - some at 400. Some got x's at 400.  Is there reason to think maybe that a miner that x's out at 400 - might actually work at 412?

Cheers,

Wow, its a bit hotter on the temp but this is hanging from the ceiling?  (High in the air where it is warmer than the floor?)

I mounted my lone s-5 pointed to the ceiling.  I am overclocked to freq 412.
