I downloaded Wireshark and ran it. I was able to thereby figure out that the miner's IP address is actually not the one written next to the fan. Instead of 192.168.1.99, it is actually 192.168.2.99. When I entered that into my browser, I was able to enter the Antminer setup page for the first time. A major step forward. Now I am trying to configure that page.

I also just tried to connect the miner directly to the router, then I went into the router's setup page and looked up the Client status. I am only showing the 3 PCs that are connected to the internet, and nothing about the unknown device, the Antminer, is showing up.

okay your cat 5 wire is direct connect pc jack to s-1 jack ? Yes, is there a specific type of cat 5 cable that I am supposed to use? I am using crossover cable. next if it is you type in 192.168.1.99 and no connect? No connect, that is correct. do an ip search use advanced ip I am showing nothing for 192.168.1.99 whenever I perform the second scan, after powering on the miner and directly connecting it to the PC. This S1 miner does not appear to be broadcasting anything.

I am using a windows 7 PC. I just tried following the instructions in that windows Doc and am coming up with "This web page is not available".

not sure why you reset the router-does it still work afterwards?
Yes, the router reset was probably unecessary. I am still not getting any luck with 192.168.1.99 on my laptop with the wireless turned off.

|
|
Yes, I see what you mean now. I did not actually see a green light beneath the ethernet port at first. I just hit the reset button again, powered it down. Then reconnected the PCI-e cables. I am seeing that green light for the first time. It lights up when I first turn it on, but then eventually goes out after a minute or so.

I have ASUS RT-AC66U and it is written 192.168.1.1 on the bottom.

"is your home network on 192.168.1.1?"
Ok, actually it was looking something like 169.254.x.x when I entered ipconfig. I just reset my router and configured it. It is now showing 192.168.1.1
"switch off wi-fi on laptop"
OK, I just switched off the wi-fi, now I am getting "This web page is not available" when I enter 192.168.1.99
"most important: set up your laptop IP manually at 192.168.1.254, mask 255.255.255.0, router/getaway 192.168.1.1, DNS 192.168.1.1"
Okay, I believe I have that. Still getting the web page is not available.

I just received an AntMiner S1 and have connected it to a laptop with a crossover network cable. I am unable to get to the log on screen when I enter the miner's IP address 192.168.1.99 in my browser. I tried pressing the reset button and still nothing. I have TeamViewer in case I need help troubleshooting the issue.

There has been a tendency for many to get swept up in the excitement over something that is still very new and full of novelty, compared with what we knew before. For something to be worthy of the title investment, it needs to be worth our time. Many of us who have gotten involved with bitcoin mining have realized that it was a lot harder than we had initially imagined to just barely break even, after investing in equipment that rapidly becomes obsolete. There has to be a better way of investing in this, to make it truly worth our time and effort. Like the difference between investing in Apple stock and simply having invested the same money in Apple computer equipment which has over time become completely obsolete.

I'm not sure if you have considered it, but you could also buy a $275 amazon gift card from www.gyft.com using your bitcoin balance.

Yeah, on second thought I think you are right. With the help of your version of CGMINER I am now over the 0.65 BTC mark with my 6 miners. If I manage to pass the 1 BTC level, I think that they will have served their purpose. I dropped the voltage slightly and am still averaging over 120 GH.

This is kind of reminiscent of personal computers, only the march towards obsolecence is occurring at breakneck pace. When you first ordered your Antminer S1, it was like you were buying a 386 computer in 1991, and it didn't even come equipped with a dial up modem yet. Then within a few months after your made your proud puchase they released the pentium II and now are accepting preorders with for pentium IV.
THe iMac G3 looked neat in the year 2000, but what is one worth today. Wouldn't it have been a better idea to instead invest in Apple stock had you wanted to buy Apple back in the year 2000? Likewise, I think we need to find a different way to invest in this that will actually stand a chance to be beneficial to more than just the miner manufacturers.
Even if you think you can afford to keep up with this, you are still involved with a subpar investment. And you can't see just how poor it is until you have made a major purchase on a machine than becomes an instant lemon.

I have no experience with Block Erupter. However, when I originally set up my USB miners I was using the windows program developed by the manufacturer. My software was called Hex Miner with proxy. While running that, I encountered all kinds of problems with stability also. Later, after much struggle, I decided to make the switch to cgminer for windows, things became much easier and generally stable running 24/7. Here is a thread that discusses it for Block Erupter: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=220450.msg2321308#msg2321308When troubleshooting this, consider trying your miner on a different computer you may have available, if all else fails. Also ask for pointers from experienced block erupter users on this board. They can be found in the above thread.

Enough already with the Quebec bashing. It is not relevant to the matter of why this coin is currently in trouble at the development stage. If this coin is not viable, there will be other good options available to help the nation of Quebec become more "independent" via cryptocurrency.

If you're selling btc I'm buying..
Although I was simply responding to the author of the thread, I did just receive a 0.01 BTC payout from my BTC Guild account that I would be willing to sell. Please use the "I am sending money to "family or friends" option on paypal. The current Bitstamp value is $6.06 USD for 0.01 BTC. Confirmed, paypal amount was sent instantly.

Ok, I would also like to try it now.

Sounds interesting, however it will be hard to get many people's attention when you only have 1 post in this forum.

Unfortunately we are rapidly approaching the end of the line for the useful life of this miner. Considering the power consumption is just under 4 watts per GH.

I tried the tenderloin a few days ago. It was excellent, well worth the effort.
