Mark,

http://bitmark.co/statistics/value

Returning:  {"value":"0.00000000","generated":1408686372}

Since yesterday evening - in case you were not aware! Using this for a dynamic 'current value' module.

I'd noticed an error and created an issue for it last night, but must confess I did not research it thoroughly. I'll address this now as a matter of urgency.
322  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How would you store >100 Bitcoins? on: August 22, 2014, 02:53:05 AM
You should make a cold storage paper wallet.  But don't risk loss of the private key.  You should give a copy of the private key to a trusted third party escrow agent so if you lose your paper, you can get the coins back.  I can be your escrow agent if you like.  I know a lot about bitcoins.  Send me the private key in a PM.
Woah woah woah, don't do this! Seriously first thing first don't just send your money to strangers. You know nothing about this guy and have no clue who he is.

You just inadvertently explained why banks are bad.

"How would you store $50,000 Dollars?"
"You should give them to a trusted third party"
"Woah woah woah, don't do this!"

On a similar note, it's nice that all of these suggestions are even available, it is good to reflect on how far we have came, not just to store money securely, but to store copies of it also. - Copies of the keys I know, but it amounts to the same

received, thank you.
324  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmark on: August 21, 2014, 09:35:26 PM
it does look better, but there seems to be one thing missing...the logo. So much effort was put into creating a recognizable logo that can be used a variety of places...but its not on the OP?

On the check pointing issue, it shouldn't be a big deal to put in. The bitcoin core devs select blocks buried in the block chain (usually with hundreds of confirms) to serve as check point blocks. It means that they have existed in the block chain for a long time and have been available for scrutiny. The likelihood of miners rejecting the check point is low, because its a block that has existed for a long time already. And any potential attacks would be missing a check point from way in the past, a sure sign of an attack.

Mark is in the process of creating a new merged image with Logo to implement on OP.

I need help from others, as I am taking on too much. Let's start Delegated cards, anybody can do them - assign to yourself in Trello or say here that you are working on it.

1. OP Graphics and Branding
2. Create List of Existing Contacts

Thank you.
325  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmark on: August 21, 2014, 07:12:07 PM
OP looks perfect.

Also, just sent .30 BTC for the developer loan.

Thank you on both counts, credit to Cryptozim for his efforts on the OP.

I'll update the list of developer loans, 3.7 of 8 now, almost half way.

Now to contact all the places with our old logo to update.
326  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmark on: August 21, 2014, 05:59:47 PM
Miningpool.co have lowered their fees to 1% at our request. Spread the hash.

All,

Please update your clients to v0.9.2.2 - this was a security release, branding was a side product. If you are running v0.9.1.1 from the previous release you do not have any new checkpoints to prevent against forks, and you do not have alerting to be informed if something has gone wrong.

The main seed nodes, exchanges, and pools are all updated frequently to mitigate risks.

Thank You

New Branding: Bitmark Logo and Variations.

New OP: The top of the thread - thanks to Cryptozim!

328  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] www.MiningPool.co - Multi Coin Pool - Announcement / Update Thread on: August 21, 2014, 07:22:10 AM
I'll just post again quickly then Smiley

Would you consider lowering your BTM fees? All the other pools are at 0.75-1%, you have a very good pool but people are leaving due to this, it would be great to see them come back, and also for the hashrate to be nicely distributed.

Thank you for any consideration.
329  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmark on: August 21, 2014, 07:13:07 AM
good work on the coin thus far. we are happy to be working with bitmark.

a recent discussion point from my group is wallet technology - is the BTM wallet going to be changed in the future to get a more simple system? something that is easy to use for people that are new to crypto has been suggested.

re: check points system, i feel that if it is deemed appropriate, then go with it, but if its not completely essential, dont create the extra workload ...

Our goal is to have hundreds, or thousands, of wallets and ways to interact with and store the currency. Consider the 'QT' to be a temporary then legacy interface which is enough for those used to crypto currency to get started. Most people's interactions with Bitmark will be through marking, pressing buttons on websites and transferring from service to service. Apps, browser wallets, alternative clients, we hope to have a wide range of them, and foster competition between design and experience specialists. There will likely always be a P2P daemon back bone network, but the last thing we want is for our friends and family to have their first encounter of cryptographic currency be a clunky unintuitive downloadable program, no currency, and to be required to jump through several hoops before being exposed to even the slightest utility.

Checkpoints, deferred to be discussed under separate cover Multi Signed Broadcasted Checkpoints.

I will be retiring for the day shortly as I've been preparing things for the last 26 hours. Not before releasing an updated client however Smiley

331  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Multi Signed Broadcasted Checkpoints on: August 21, 2014, 05:55:59 AM

We are considering adding (optional) Peercoin style broadcasted checkpoints to Bitmark to further enhance security.

It occurred to me today, that it may be nice to require multiple signatures on any broadcasted checkpoints before they are accepted or relayed as valid. This would allow say 2 community members, an exchange, two pools and a developer to all sign a checkpoint once every few days, requiring a majority of signatures from those listed as valid, 5 of 8 or 8 of 12, and so forth.

We would intend it to be semi manual process requiring a human to verify and sign, not a fully automated system, to ensure a smooth transition and no technical exploits. Perhaps it is even better than hardcoded checkpoints where you have to trust only the developer(s).

Has anybody implemented such a thing, or proposed or analysed it? Seeking feedback, and to discuss this further over the coming weeks.

332  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] CoinShield - SK-1024 GPU| Prime CPU| POS | Shitcoin Cleanup| Unified Time on: August 21, 2014, 12:13:09 AM
With these updates my best estimate is next week.

After reading that, I think you may need till next month or longer, and would also suggest you move development to something open like github so that people can help you test and contribute along the way.

This isn't an alt coin, it's a new set of technology, you need more time and more eyes to do this correctly.

Keep up the good work, and please to keep things positive and for your own sanity, move it to be considered as a software development project until tested and proven, and then turn it in to a currency.

I wanted to help you test and couldn't as I didn't know what the binaries you sent contained, we need source to compile, honestly nobody will steal or can steal it, as it's under development and would take anybody weeks to catch up to your understanding of your own code.

Best of luck,

Mark
333  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: rpietila Altcoin Observer on: August 20, 2014, 10:24:20 PM
If it's a question of what's more secure, I'm betting that within two years we'll have at least one working PoS system that's demonstrabily more resistant to attacks than PoW.

I betting within two years no one will be having this debate and PoW will have crushed everything else into oblivion.  Grin

And I am also betting it won't be Bitcoin.

It will turn out that PoW is absolutely essential. Everyone will go "a ha" and that will be the end of the debate.

(I might be a bit too optimistic...we'll see...)

If PoW is what we have, I'm fine with that too. I stongly dislike the way Bitcoin mining is headed though. I think everyone who isn't one of the few running one of these 9 figure operations must as well.

A billion people mining on their low powered mobile phones would be nice. As was discussed previously in this thread.

Interesting discussion.

The majority decision is represented by the longest chain, which has the greatest proof-of-work effort invested in it.

It's really explicit

'proof of' ... just the proof that work was done

'work' ... the expensive bit that protects the network. It has to be hard and expensive and require a lot effort and investment, that's our protection.

If the majority of work is controlled by honest nodes then the chain is safe. Not done by honest nodes, controlled by honest nodes.

So as long as the work is expensive (monetarily) and controlled by honest nodes, the network is safe.
334  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmark on: August 20, 2014, 03:44:10 PM

Perhaps it warrants further discussion and we should delay it until the next release, open an issue on github and research plus test thoroughly. I'm 99% certain I could have it implemented and working today thanks to prior work by Sunny, however that 1% risk isn't worth it.

This release will contain configured and test alerts, new branding, and bring all people who upgrade to the newest checkpoints.
335  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmark on: August 20, 2014, 02:29:20 PM
We are getting to the 50/50 point regarding the ANN. We should meet half way and partially update it to include pertinent information. Cryptozim has offered to help in the process.

IMPORTANT

Should we implement peercoin's check pointing in this release?

I know it has been seen as contentious, however all checkpoints come from the repository owner (me) any way, this allows me to update checkpoints without rebuilding the client.

More importantly it means all nodes on the network have recent checkpoints without downloading or rebuilding a release, including exchanges and mining pools.

Please advise and discuss.

Alright thanks for your answers, already looking through everything.

Please ask any questions you have, the more questions are asked the better we can collectively refine our documentation and ideas Smiley

Thank you.

Could you maybe post all of the important informations about BTM on the first page?
Kinda hard to get information about Bitmark.

The OP is crafted in such a way to encourage participation from those who take the time to consider the project's merits and who may potentially want to be involved in some way to shaping it's future - it isn't an 'ANN' in the traditional sense, as Bitmark isn't really an 'alt coin', it's a fully fledged alternative currency and more pertinently a project focussed on massive adoption.

So far this OP format has enabled us to have over 55 pages of useful on-topic engaging discussion and to achieve what we have so far.

That said, everything you need can be found by following links from the first couple of lines Smiley

Many regards, and I hope you find the information you are looking for quickly.
338  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Can you create a multipool paying out BTM on: August 19, 2014, 09:08:06 PM
Mark,

I'm pretty impressed with Bitmark, especially the level of professionalism you've brought to it.

In the last day or so I've had several people who are enthusiastic about BTM contact me about setting up a pool for it. We (Simple Crypto) are nearing completion for a beta launch of a multipool, and are considering adding BTM as a payout option - if there is enough interest.

Cheers

Wonderful - I have already had interest from several miners requesting a multipool paying out BTM, especially from GPU miners and those running slightly older ASICs if that information helps.

The Simple pools you provide are very good, I'm extremely glad that it was you who replied. Please do update here or by PM when you launch your beta multipool, very interested to see it Smiley

Many Regards,

Mark

Very kind, thank you, also a nice approach using the proceeds of signature campaigns to donate to projects.

I'd also like to thank you for the feedback you've given to multiple questions so far, it has been most useful.

BitMark added to CoinMarketCap : http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bitmark

That's good.

I feel I will need to contact everybody to use the correct logo's - they have used an old suggestion that was never adopted, I'll wait a short time until we are live with everything.
