321  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How secure is bitcoin account from hackers on: July 04, 2017, 11:21:33 PM
I'd recommend looking into a hardware wallet if you intend to store a lot of bitcoins. This allows you to keep the private keys off your computer and on a dedicated device to help prevent a compromise even when the PC may be infected with malware.

The other tips recommended in here are great as well and you'll definitely want to utilize 2FA whenever possible to secure any bitcoin related accounts.

Here's a link to the GitHub issue page:

The author also reads these forums but you will likely get more of a response on the Github.
323  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: upgraded electrum, refund sent to old address on: July 04, 2017, 11:16:26 PM
Did you recreate your wallet when you upgraded Electrum? Your addresses shouldn't have changed unless you created a new wallet.

If you did, you'll need to restore your old wallet in order to access the funds.
324  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Put coins into single address on: July 04, 2017, 11:15:06 PM
Also keep in mind that it could add up to quite a bit in fees depending on how many inputs you have in total.
325  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Rushed back up, no coin on: July 03, 2017, 08:25:29 PM
Thanks for the replies. I have tried the ismine command on the console but it just keeps saying "false", and ticking the BIP39 box, made no difference.

I go file/ new/restore, i name wallet, then choose standard, click already have seed, enter seed, leave bip account as 0, enter new password, then end up with another empty wallet. Why do I keep having to entering a new password? It doesn't even give me the opportunity to use the password that I already have..

I know it's all spelt right as I copied, pasted, and printed it out.

When you create a new wallet, you are assigning a new password to the wallet. Electrum doesn't know anything about your existing wallet's password.

Anyone know what block number the Tezos ICO started on? I'm trying to figure out when end of the 20% bonus period is going to be.

The 20% bonus is for all transactions included before or on Bitcoin block # 474022
327  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Tezos discussion on: July 03, 2017, 02:11:46 AM
In US dollars, does anyone know what the largest amount received in contributions for an ICO?

I think I was reading that Brock Pierce's was the largest to date raising 100 million. If that's tru this has already surpassed right?

Yup, currently Tezos is at aprox US$ 135,866,523.33 it will certainly surpass Bancor record.

EOS raised ~680k ETH for 20% of the supply, so about ~$170m

That's the largest crowdsale ever in $

https://etherscan.io/address/0x9937dbb2128b55c44d8af7bf36fd76796a814cf4#internaltx

eos RAISED $185MM
TEZOS HAS RAISED NEARLY 140Mil with 12 days still to go lol

Yeah, but due to the bonus schedule most people will have contributed during the initial period and we will likely see fewer contributions near the end.
328  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Tezos discussion on: July 03, 2017, 01:04:37 AM
How many hours left before the 20% time window is over?

It looks like this is for all transactions included before or on Bitcoin block # 474022

"VR porn consumers are also willing to pay to view. Subscriptions to Naughty America’s web site grew 55% in 2016; customers pay $25 to access unlimited videos (including more than 7,500 traditional two-dimensional movies) for a month, or $74 for a year. Naughty America says it converts 1 out of every 300 visitors to VR scene preview pages on its website into paying customers, compared to 1 in 1,500 for traditional scenes."

vr porn? wth how do u jack off standing up
or controling the vr machine lol , Ive heard everything now

VR can be used while sitting in a chair. You don't need to move around if you are watching a 3D video, it just allows you to turn an view a wider and more 3D environment.

Did anyone receive their coins yet? I haven't.

Nobody got any coins yet. https://xchain.io/asset/NVST.NVSX

see, holders.

does anybody know when the distribution will start? i am bit nervous because i am dealing with counterwallet tokens for the first time.

Distribution was supposed to start between July 1st - July 7th, but it doesn't look like they've started to distribute them yet. There is still time left in that window though.

It's not a waste, the internet is the best place to be! Without the internet, life is so boring haha.

He already said it was his mistake, but doesn't want to share it with us...

It was me.. dont worry about it I figured it out. Sad

17MxKujaf2sFtGzX36tSkVFXwkJCDsSS8J can be found in http://www.allprivatekeys.com/1157920892373161954235709850086879078528375642790749043826051631415181614942

And it looks like it is also indexed by Google on a similar site. I wonder how this address was generated.
334  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Seed preservation on: July 02, 2017, 12:17:25 AM
Just memorize it, shouldn't be too hard with 12 words.

Repeat it everyday.

http://www.memory-improvement-tips.com/best-memory-trick.html

That's a sure fire way to lose your seed lol. Ideally you won't be using the seed unless something bad happens so trying to repeat it everyday is a lot of wasted effort, plus you are bound to eventually forget about it and that's when you'll need the seed.
335  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Seed preservation on: July 01, 2017, 05:13:40 AM
The best place to hide is always in plain sight!

Write a poem using the seed words and put the seed words in bold, or underlined.  Fold the piece of paper in two and insert it in your favorite book in your library.  Repeat the process and store the poem in different places in the house, or store the poem on a relative's computer (house fire).

Yeah, that's not a pretty cool idea. It obscures it a little bit so that people don't know what it might be.
336  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanity Pool - vanity address generator pool on: June 30, 2017, 02:03:44 PM
With the increased price of bitcoin and the fees on the network, it doesn't seem as many people are interested in vanity addresses. There are still some in the pool but the reward to challenge ratio doesn't make them that appealing.

So that's why the reward is only just above 1.5 BTC for the prefix "qwertyuio"?  Would have expected at least  0.5 BTC for prefixes of length >= 6 with difficulties well over 10,000,000,000.

Yeah, most of the requests that are currently in the pool have been there for quite some time and are very difficult. The rewards start to seem a little bit better now with the increased BTC price then what they were when first requested, but even then most of them are too difficult to be worth pursuing with the current rewards.
337  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanity Pool - vanity address generator pool on: June 30, 2017, 01:23:02 PM
Are vanity addresses still a thing?  Could I make a few Satoshi generating addresses?  There are not many good bounties there and the amounts are a little low for the compute to try and find them.

Doesn't seem worth it, although if you already have the equipment...

I just generated 1hack...

Takes about a month for me to get to probability ~50% for generating interesting addresses like 1bitcoin[...] and 1satoshi[...]

You need to use OCLvanitygen and use a decent GPU to get better speeds if you are not already.

With the increased price of bitcoin and the fees on the network, it doesn't seem as many people are interested in vanity addresses. There are still some in the pool but the reward to challenge ratio doesn't make them that appealing.
338  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum on IPhone? on: June 30, 2017, 04:45:48 AM
There have been rumors of a possible Electrum App for iPhone but so far there hasn't been one.

I've heard good things about Breadwallet for iPhone so you may want to check that out for storing bitcoins on your phone.
339  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Seed preservation on: June 30, 2017, 04:44:24 AM
If you can't secure a piece of paper with a few words on it, you need to possibly reconsider this hobby.
Can you elaborate on this?

The threat with a seed written on a piece of paper is the physical threat of someone else discovering the piece of paper. You could store it in a safe to prevent most people from stumbling across it. However, if someone breaks into your house and steals your safe, they could likely open it and discover your seed which is in plaintext.
340  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum stole my bitcoin wtf? on: June 30, 2017, 04:37:08 AM
Doublecheck your system for malware to rule that out as a possibly. I'd recommend looking into a hardware wallet device for use with Electrum which adds extra security especially if you are dealing with that many coins.
