As far as I know they are still down. Then again there was never an official announcement that they were broken, so I'd assume there won't be an official announcement when it's fixed either.

Yeah, have noticed the same thing here off and on over the last day or two.

And there goes $3... was fun while it lasted

The balance on mtgox is just numbers anyway.
As other possibilities besides that this screenshot is a fake is that mtgox is, and was compromised the whole time. We really need a decentralized exchange.
Badly.
I'm sure it was some sort of mtgoxlive bug. The screenshot isn't a fake, but as soon as I refreshed the page after taking the screenshot, things were back to normal.

No idea, to be honest. I also think they could've actually communicated to the public that they're getting a paxum investigation. That would maybe have helped with understanding.
Agreed - the fact that they know the reason for the delay and failed to post anything is very annoying.

Just to be sure, has anyone been successful at withdrawing in any of the withdrawal options like Paxum, Dwolla, international wire etc. for the last week?
They told me that my money should have been at my Paxum account yesterday (no money on the account yet), I requested to withdraw 2500 USD more then a week ago.
No, same thing here. Made a withdrawal request (paxum) 10 days ago and still haven't seen it yet. This is a regular problem at Gox, although usually it's usually only a 4-5 day or so wait.

Hello, We are working on something new which we hope will be a pleasant surprise for all our users. It is not bad news, so please don't worry about it. The most pleasant surprise you could give your users is not running out of funds in your Paxum account every couple of weeks. Bells and whistles shouldn't be a priority until you've addressed far more basic issues like reliability of processing deposits and withdrawals. At best your inability to resolve those issues makes your company look incompetent. When you keep saying sorry and the same problem keeps happening with monotonous regularity, it's difficult for people to believe that you give a damn about your customers. No amount of perky PR speak compensates people for the sheer amount of effort it often takes to complete the most basic of transactions with your company. Yeah seriously, put your efforts into functionality. +1 - The Paxum situation is ridiculous.

Saw this today on mtgoxlive. Apparently the mysterious manipulator wanted to be REALLY sure the price didn't drop below $2.80
So, 8 days now and still my Paxum transfer hasn't gone through. Anyone else having better luck than I am?
I thought mtgox.com was based in Russia? Very likely I'm wrong... But there's no Thanksgiving in Russia.
Not Russia, Japan.

I submitted a withdrawal last Sunday, and still haven't seen it yet. The "less than 24 hours" is only when they have funds at Paxum, which most of they time they don't.
Probably the countdown until they have money available for withdrawal at Paxum again.
I pop up again as promised.
Ordered a second Paxum withdrawal on the weekend. It's Monday evening and, somehow as expected, the transaction has gone missing just like the first one. If it doesn't show up soon, I'll have to contact Gox again. One would think they watch these things now, but meh.
Yesterday, I was refused all Bitcoin withdrawals with "invalid Bitcoin address"! The hell?
This is starting to look like the bank's warm-up maneuver. Do not hold back my funds! If I have to contact support all the time, I will become quite the unhappy and annoying customer, or cease being a customer at all. Which I admittedly can only decide if I'm able to withdraw... lol
Having exactly the same issue here. They are probably out of funds at Paxum again, which seems to happen once a week or so. I've already opened 4 tickets over the last month about this, but they still seem to have the same problem over and over again.

I for one would be happy to see this. Having the market more distributed should make it much harder to manipulate.
How much was the withdrawal for? I've been told that withdrawals over a certain amount (like 100BTC or so) are automatically flagged for manual review.
Back up to $2.20 with a 50k wall at $2. So much for the $1.xx prices so many of you were hoping for. Not tonight anyway.
From the steps Im seeing on MTGox live i think our manipulator is getting back in it. Just when I thought he was gone for good. Yeah, watched that happen here too. Looks like he decided to show everyone who really owns the market

Even though it's true, I don't much like the idea of emphasizing the "shady" properties of bitcoin (tax dodging, money laundering, purchasing illegal drugs, etc.)
Doing so just seems like it would just invite the wrong kind of attention from the government, and gives them fuel with which to go after bitcoin. Not that there's much interest from political types at this point, but I could see them a few years down the road pointing to this interview and saying "see, it's a tool for tax dodgers and criminals, even it's proponents admit it!"
Seems bitcoin has enough other positive properties (non-reversible, anonymous, worldwide, etc.) that emphasizing the illegal uses isn't really necessary.

It seems like it would make sense for me since I'm doing arbitrage. In order to do that I need to keep an inventory of bitcoins. It would be nice to hedge that inventory with a short position on Bitcoinica so I don't have to worry as much about price declines killing my profits.
What's stopping you? Nothing really, just that I don't feel like I completely understand all the intricacies of shorting on margin. I don't invest in anything unless I feel like I have a pretty complete understanding of it. So it's just a matter of taking the time to figure it out.

I've been thinking about doing this but haven't actually done it yet.
