321  Economy / Speculation / Re: Love this quote. Do you? on: August 09, 2014, 09:31:29 PM
If Bitcoin doesn't go "to da moon" then it has no utility and the speculators will dump it down to zero. So no, the quote is meaningless to me.

I agree 100%, Bitcoin is useless until we reach $50,000 per coin. /s.

To me the whole point of Bitcoin is that it's not controlled by one person, if people are using it as an investment then I have no problem with that. I'm sure most people who want the price to increase only want it to increase because they hold a huge amount but as long as Bitcoin has real life use and value it'll always be considered useful / valuable and to me that's more important than what the price is. Bitcoin will do the same job if it was at $1 than if it was at $1000. The only difference I can think of is people will be more likely to dump their coins to take advantage of the price.

It really is trial and error, made about $300 from Adsense and that took me about 2 months. A few articles posted and I just left it. I would focus on attracting legitimate traffic with well placed ads and see how that goes.

What was your niche ? Care to share ?

Blog is down now and sadly I didn't make a backup but I would post anything related to computers, I didn't really have a specific niche but if it involved computers and was a trending topic I would usually try and get an article up asap.

324  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC price hiked at $7300 per BTC, what does this mean!? on: August 07, 2014, 09:19:08 PM
This happened before, can't find the link though but it was basically someone who made a typo. No one in their right mind would pay $7500 / coin when it's so low at the moment and if they did I feel sorry for them.
325  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 1,000-member secret progressive journalist group uncovered, FUD spreaders of BTC on: August 07, 2014, 09:16:43 PM
Not surprised at all.

It's always the same response, every time someone says to me Bitcoin is used for illegal activities I tell them it's no different than what cash can be used for. Heck, Bitcoin wasn't even designed to be anonymous, it's all on a public ledger. Difference between anonymous and pseudonymous.
326  Other / Off-topic / Re: What kind of mouse you use and do you like it? on: August 06, 2014, 08:24:31 PM
Unless I'm playing games and want really good response rates a good optic mouse seems to do the job fine for me.

I've never seen a reloadable Visa/MC card that didn't have huge fees, actually those fees are pretty good. The standard is paying 1.5% on all withdraws using the card regardless if foreign exchange is involved. Anybody remember when all those Liberty Reserve cards were canceled by Visa with no notice tying up funds for months? I wouldn't trust any debit card. It'd be nice to click a button to convert coins and 5 mins later withdraw cash but far too many  middle men are involved at that point.

Then again LR was operating illegally while giving the interpenetration that they were a fully compliant company. One of the great things I loved about LR was that it was so easy to send funds to someone, as a seller of virtual items and services I didn't have to worry about fraud. Maybe that's why they had so much trouble with their Visa cards.

You also have to remember that Xapo is probably being charged a shit load for supplying the cards in the first place. It's not like you can walk up to a provider and say hey give me x cards and the gateways to manage them, it's a lot more complex then that. I'm not agreeing with what they did, they should have made customers aware that they're were going to be fees or at least handled the situation better when there was an outcry.

Anybody can start their own card program if they have $100k and some sort of incorporated entity. Get a loyalbank corporate account, deposit $100k and start issuing your own reloadable cards the next day, set your own fees. Can also use ecoin.cc, dump your money to hold there, have customers directly apply to ecoin for their own cards (they use loyalbank cards) and you can fund them for free internally by just logging in and manually or batch transfering the funds. Turn-key debit card solution for exchangers. Those loyalbank cards have a much bigger withdraw limit too

$100k is still a lot for a company to invest in a program, they might have been early adopters of BTC which probably made it easier but still a lot of money.

Thanks for the info though, learn something new every day. Smiley

So, is there any action the mods can take against this kind of thing? He is like Atlas on steroids right now except much more annoying. He is quite literally cluttering up the entire forum right now. If we start banning him at least he'll have to pay each time he makes an account and he'll probably stop then.

I check for unread topics fairly often and I haven't seen much of him so I guess the good posts are obviously outweighing his, it's still an eyesore though.

Each time he gets banned the IP range he was using gets more "evil" and he has to pay more BTC to make new accounts thanks to theymos' nifty system. If he's being banned, surely all the money he's spending on accounts isn't making the FUD campaigns worth it?

AFAIK, it's using specific IP addresses to prevent users. Blocking an IP range, especially in a residential sense, wouldn't be helpful imho, too much room for error, maybe blocking IP ranges of datacentres.

a way to guarantee that the 1 BTC is not spent before date Y

From your own wallet? I doubt it.

I'm sure if you create some kind of escrow through a web portal you could technically set up Bitcoin on a server and have it schedule transfers.
330  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ross Ulbricht: FBI Didn't Have Search Warrant, Violated Fourth Amendment on: August 06, 2014, 08:11:45 PM
did anything like this ever get off on a technicality?

I feel sorry for the guy, appears to be desperately trying everything without believing that he's doomed.

I saw a case where a drug dealer had all charges dropped against him because the evidence presented was obtained without a warrant, I can't find the link though so hopefully someone else knows what I'm talking about.

I do agree though, there's been so many defences thrown - but I am wondering, technically the case against Ross is pretty strong why is it taking so long for them to come to a ruling? Is it because of the multiple defences prolonging the case or something else?
331  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New famous satoshi words... on: August 06, 2014, 08:07:55 PM
I wonder how many of these big figures are actually interested in cryptocurrency as opposed to using it as a way to increase their popularity.
332  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Large government takeover on: August 06, 2014, 08:06:54 PM
I'm sure they have enough capital to buy all the coins out there but that would only work for people willing to sell their coins and even then it would only push the price of currently circulated coins up.

334  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: EgoPay scam on: August 06, 2014, 06:33:12 PM
My bank charged my bank account, not the transaction amount. So the amount of 200$ was sent correctly.
I've already sent a documents that prove it to Egopay.
They didn't bother to check.I also asked Egopay to provide a bank document(similar that I provided) to see what is the amount received.
Nothing.

If you sent $200 ensure that there are no transmission fees, receiving fees on Egopay's side and so on. Bank transfers are known for having a huge chunk taken in fees.
335  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How is XAPO getting away with this bull*hit?! on: August 06, 2014, 06:30:44 PM
I just tried to order card.
Before they only wants phone number. Ok, i approved it. After they wants only address. Ok, i filled it.
After they wants document number and other personal info. Here i stopped already.
With every step I give new information about me... And i don't know what they ask me in next step. Scans of utility bills, bank statements?

I don't want the Xapo card. It's bullshit...

P.S. And i don't see there "Detele account". So my email, address and phone leaked tp Xapo forever. Fine!

Heaven forbid a company offering financial services and allowing the transmission of money to verify who their customers are. It's not like you can get into any sort of legal trouble.
336  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: PrimeDice Is A Scam! on: August 03, 2014, 10:59:53 PM
Gambling in itself is a scam, now stop gambling if you can't take a lose.

Not really a scam imho.

Gambling should be seen as a form of entertainment, not a way to make quick money. It would just be a lot easier if people applied common sense, a casino would not function as a business if it did not profit - simple as that.
337  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How is XAPO getting away with this bull*hit?! on: August 02, 2014, 07:32:00 PM
So its the same thing as every single prepaid card in the world. Sounds like you're just bitching.

You want a company to spend millions and millions of dollars, and offer you a service free of charge? Well you've obviously never heard of a bank.

I think he's more annoyed with the fact that they promised no fees and then went against it without notifying people. I've seen those kinds of fees with many pre paid cards though so it's not uncommon so I'm pretty sure they're being charged by their card provider and it's just being passed on.

I'll buy one as well but explain your negative reputation too, they're from fairly established members not just brand new sign ups.

I love how they anticipated this, can't say were aren't making noise.

Sorry but why would you sent outside of LocalBitcoins.com? The whole point of LBC is so that scams are reduced through use of Escrow.
