321  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: November 15, 2017, 09:05:54 AM
ok

So I only just realised, but Jaxx, Coinomi and Exodus are not open source but seem to be advertised by DASH as secure.

What are options apart from dash core for a fully open source light client.

Jaxx and Ex could at any point put in malicious code, eg if a court orders them to and gags them.
322  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / DASH scaleing and MAster Node reward. on: November 13, 2017, 12:50:08 AM

[1] Can some one explain to me, can dash scale, or does it have worse scaling than BCH/BTC LN?

[2] What the reward system for Master Nodes, what happens when/if that runs out?
323  Economy / Speculation / Re: My take on BCH, 1x, 2x et.al on: November 12, 2017, 08:15:59 AM
the thing about scaling is that SegWit this increase the capacity it is just that not that many are using SegWit transactions so the effects were not palpable. if you check the block sizes we already had bigger than 1 MB blocks. i think the record was 1.7 MB so far.

the way i see it, LN is not supposed to be considered a scaling solution, at least not directly. it should be more of an indirect solution for scaling. LN removes the load of the transactions on chain so there are less "traffic". for example if you want to make deposits in your exchange account, your gambling account,... over and over, you choose LN and go off chain. that way a lot of transactions will get out and reduce the pressure on network.

with that said bitcoin does not need scaling right away. if bitcoin continued like normal without BCH difficulty manipulation and all the spam attacks against bitcoin, then fees would have never risen and mempool transactions would have never exceeded 10K, specially with SegWit now active. and it would have remain like this as SegWit is used more.

The failure to 2X or rather the 6 people saying NO, and they don't get to say no in general if people chose to run 2X, has rather caused the ossification of 1x to look more sure.
it wasn't just those 6 people saying no. it was all the NO2X crap that has been going on. SegWit2x would have led to a split or at least death of core and a crash of price nonetheless. even if temporarily.

However until BCH adopts segwit and so can run LN, it remains hobbled.
LN does not "need" SegWit!

So in short HODL
better say, HODL bitcoin, buy BCH, enjoy the pump, dump it before it is too late, buy bitcoin, HODL, enjoy the rally and come back of money+profit to bitcoin. Wink

Fair points

What i mean is BCH should implement LN.

I'm not sure I would buy more BCH, than I have BTC....its too risky, you just don't know which way this will play out.
324  Economy / Speculation / My take on BCH, 1x, 2x et.al on: November 12, 2017, 05:47:45 AM
TL:DR HODL.

BTC, failed to 2x or commit to scale onchain solutions.

I had a brief exchange conversation one of the core devs

essentially he corrected me as to the demand side and supply side of scaling.

That said he conceded there would be a case for scaling  a bit.

I went on and asked what functions would he suggest or family of functions would likely offer the onchain scaling rate?

Stony silence. Maybe he did not read my question.

This puts me to....what I see as the core of the issue.

BTC needs a certain on chain capacity, its all well and good the LN will solve the high TX issues, but right now LN is no really a choice for most people.

In the interim there needs to be some scaling, and that scaling at a higher rate then went LN is widely used.

The failure to 2X or rather the 6 people saying NO, and they don't get to say no in general if people chose to run 2X, has rather caused the ossification of 1x to look more sure.

Now if they were to 2x, and beyond as needed, this would show good dev intent. As it is they have sacrificed a lot of capital and maybe the crow to BCH.

However until BCH adopts segwit and so can run LN, it remains hobbled.

It seems the nearest to best design will take that proportion of the market cap all other things being equal.

It seems prudent to treat splits as an insurance policy and hold equal amount on both splits. This is increasingly true, if those chains split again.

So in short HODL

325  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Will Bitcoin Cash kill Bitcoin? on: November 11, 2017, 10:17:04 PM
I feel there was a break point where there needed to be some scaling on chain as well as segwit.

2x promised this, then 6 high profile people broke went back on this segwit2x will still go ahead.

1xSW, without on chain scaling is going to bottleneck its own success

Also the BCH camp is justified in a view the 1xrs never want to scale.
326  Economy / Speculation / Re: Real strenght of Bitcoin is showing in Cash on: November 10, 2017, 09:46:11 PM
There we have it guys.
People were hoping for SW2X but got disappointed.
Now the only working real bitcoin is Bitcoin Cash and big money is flowing into it.
I suspect it will be equally valued to Bitcoin Core before the end of the year.
Every serious Bitcoiner know it is the only implementation that Satoshi thought would ever be viable.
Not this mutable SegWit nonsense. There was a very good reason he included signature data and keep transactions immutable!

Bitcoin Cash is nothing to be scoffed at, with a market capitalization of over $15 Bn now. But it is still a fraction of Bitcoin. The 'flippening' with respect to Bitcoin Cash doesn't seem to be something which we should worry about in the near future.

It should be. All the hundreds of millions that flowed into Bitcoin in hopes of SW2x are now flowing into Bitcoin Cash, as it's the only one solving the problem right now and staying true to Satoshis vision.
Transaction volume in USD of Bitcoin Cash was almost equal to the transaction volume in USD to Bitcoin Core itself. If that doesn't scream FLIPPENING i don't know what does!

Core will upgrade blocksize at some point....cores biggest advantage as I understand it is better devs.
327  Economy / Speculation / Re: SW2x cancelation will crash Bitcoin on: November 10, 2017, 12:12:40 PM
2x is going to go ahead

how is kwuckduck related to proudhon?

328  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: B2X is not dead yet. on: November 10, 2017, 10:50:03 AM
How is this info not on the front page of coindesk?? Interesting times indeed

Simply because it is irrelevant?

It's quite impressive that a single entity controls 30% of the entire network hashing power, but stats don't lie and as of late, the total support for B2X is 15%, far from their actual claim. They could push through with their plan. But the million dollar question is, would people actually believe it again after the 'cancellation' they've made before?

As long as consensus isn't reach (which I highly doubt again in this case), no fork will happen.

why?

some one can just run 2x if they want, mod out the % consensus reqs or similar
329  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: B2X is not dead yet. on: November 10, 2017, 10:48:44 AM
I believe i stated this would happen as soon as 2x was "cancelled"
330  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Alt buying time on: November 09, 2017, 07:52:52 AM
the money is flooding into alts,

I think there was a possibility that forks were the new/alt ICO, eg types of splits with new parameter or using blockchain as primary distro method threatened the existence of alts.

BCH, BG, 2x,

but it seems this trend is broken.
331  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / 2X somwone will run it on: November 08, 2017, 09:54:00 PM
Some one is going to run this chain on that date. Its going to get some hash.
332  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: November 08, 2017, 08:31:55 AM
Nem received the most votes for BTC Markets Australia
333  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: A newbie just killed Ethereum on: November 08, 2017, 05:53:24 AM
Yep eth will crash on this.

Essentially they need to figure out how to securely make their codeing.

There will be a dead cat bounce....I suppose.

In some ways I don't see a problem with a roll back, as it returns a status quo and eth codebase is a development in progress, so its to be expected there will be issues along the the way.

Its hard to argue that this not a straight out error that needs to be addressed, and who loses by a consensus to fix this....

a wet are consnesus it ok

in fact every time BTC upgrades (or down grades) or forks, you are getting a wetware consensus.

the normies and certain purists will freak out about this but meh........

I guess this reinforces btc a reserve currency.

if this was a lib by parity (Parity’s “multi-signature wallet”) then its parities problem...I am not across this enough to know
334  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: November 05, 2017, 09:00:52 AM
when did nem list on hitbtc?
335  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XVC] Vcash Official Community Thread ▱ Zerotime ▱ Anon ▱ Auto Block Size on: November 05, 2017, 06:44:04 AM
its interesting coinmktcap, did not show XVC as mooning, and was wrong becuase it discounted it as fake, I think due to the polo problem, this means it probably sub moons as people don't see it in the list of moons, right now it would be on top, by some margin.

Polo really needs to get its act together.....

Whats going on with XVC it seems to be working for everyone but Polo, and polo are generally pretty good inmho
336  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] IPO of MaidSafe:  Entering the Future of the Decentralized Internet on: November 03, 2017, 10:01:24 PM
As said before if only the did as many lines of good code as they did press release

I mean why tell us this stuff, its a waste of time, anyone could see it on github if they set it up right

no product after and eternity in crypto time.
337  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: November 03, 2017, 12:31:01 PM
when does catapult come out?
338  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-11-02] Credit Suisse CEO: Bitcoin the 'Very Definition of a Bubble' on: November 03, 2017, 11:46:32 AM
Banksters finding out the can't be Banksters any more.

All their fiat cannot buy them control of BTC, only push the price up.

This is a novel situation for Banksters. They are going to be out of a job, or have greatly reduced relevance
339  Economy / Speculation / Re: "Bitcoin will implode"... on: November 02, 2017, 10:58:17 AM
it's just another opinion and everything that he said make a sense to be honest,
for them who has a lot of money in their pocket, they will not bothering themself with such a thing.
but if you ask them about what is in your mind about Bitcoin ?
of course the majority people will say the same, because who will be the keeper if something goes wrong ?
(he just thought it rationally and do not want lose his money without a reason)
Bitcoin price right now is ridiculously high for some people and without a good knowledge they will label it as an 'unkown' assets.

He is comparing it to Enron. I think it is just a case of sour grapes. He missed investing in it and now he thinks it will implode. Just like Jamie, he feels threatened by Bitcoin.

Considering he is among the richest *fiat* holders on the planet, he should feel threatened by Bitcoin which undermines his whole empire

i do not think so mate,
no matter what fiat will exist and nobody can replace it,
FIAT will exist as fuel for your fire, or plastic recycling if new notes. The gipper.

"This arrangement resembles anarcho-capitalism, a theme Stephenson carries over to his next novel The Diamond Age. As described in both novels and the short story "The Great Simoleon Caper" (1995), hyperinflation has sapped the value of the US dollar to the extent that trillion dollar bills—Ed Meeses—are nearly disregarded and the quadrillion dollar note—the Gipper—is the standard 'small' bill."
340  Economy / Speculation / Re: Can bitcoin possibly hit usd10,000 by end of year? on: November 02, 2017, 06:30:41 AM
At this rate....yes yes it could.

I am hanging for the normie shake out though.

All buying in now, not holding when it goes back to 4K, 2K or some such, I could see a flash crash back to 900$, then they all sell out swear never to touch it agian, and see it reach the amount they purchased at year or 2 years later then do 5~10x of that. So at 90K or some such.

Imagine how quickly this kills short term bandwagoners...

Buy high sell on low, feel so bad, watch it go back, do 10x then feel worse did not hold.

This is a massively hash evolutionary machine selecting for HODL, which compounds again to reduce supply.

Its going to select against all those people who can't be bothered to or lack the capacity to actually work through what this is all about.
