321  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin PoW Upgrade Initiative on: March 23, 2017, 04:50:46 PM
If you change PoW to only remove asic mining capability, that won't stop someone throwing up racks and racks of computers in a datacenter in China again.

Racks of computers in datacenters is a given, but why only in China? Thanks to the universal availability of DRAM, those racks can now go up all over the world. That's the key difference.

China has very inexpensive power, so they can run more systems less expensively than elsewhere. However, I get your point, while it's not the silver bullet it would certainly help level the playing field again, at least for a little while.

FYI: Electricity in parts of Washington State, USA is as cheap or even cheaper than China due to the hydroelectic PUDs. That's why McAffee/Bitmain are building their facility there.

If you're serious about a Proof-of-Work switch I would humbly point you to what Nexus (http://nexusearth.com/features.html) is doing with ASIC and quantum computer resistant Pure SHA-3 (Using Skein-1024 and Keccak-1600) CPU pool/GPU solo mining.

Here's their thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=657601.0

Why would it be too late after an attack to HF? A few txs get stolen or blocked?

For a similar reason you're giving not to pre-empt it: building support for the new idea. It's possible that too many people will be psychologically impacted by the success of the attack, and consequently do what you're suggesting is wrong with my approach (despite the fact I've made no emotional arguements at all): allow emotions to dictate their decision instead of reason.

If we engage people to support pre-emptive action, a determined mindset would replace a fatalistic reaction. It's about harnessing a positive psychological feedback loop instead of a negative psychological feedback loop.

By my estimates 95% won't preemptively fork the PoW algo ... do you really think you can convince them all to preemptively HF?

Including Bitmain's current hashrate %? Clearly not. A PoW fork only needs to get the support of the miners who don't want to be ruled by a malign majority, although I'm seeing an obvious problem; how to measure that. Setting a block height activation would invite counter measures. Not sure how it could be achieved.

Sounds like the "Coalition of the Willing" and "Weapons of Mass Destruction" argument which lead to the disaster that was the Iraq pre-emptive strike/invasion and war.
324  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin PoW Upgrade Initiative on: March 23, 2017, 04:07:13 PM
It's profoundly unreasonable to pass off unbacked assertions as any form of reason

I've provided sound reasoning already, refute it.

I would if I could find it, but from what I see you've taken some facts, made up a story around them, and then because your story fits the facts you say it must be true. But of course your story fits the fact, you used them to make it up.

Yes, it reads as conspiracy theory mixed with confirmation bias.
325  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][POOL] www.komodopool.com - New KMD POOL (EquiHash) on: March 16, 2017, 08:33:51 PM
.... I notice most people mine there for a few hours then leave when they dont get paid....

Just to clarify, Komodo mining is set up in that way:
- block generation time is 1 minute
- notaries have significantly lower difficulty than rest of miners, so they are mining most of blocks
- after each 2000 blocks there is "free for all" range of 64 or 65 blocks where everyone is mining with same diff

So unless you have huuuuuuge power, like we used to have in the beggining when pool had like 80% of whole network, it makes no sense for a regular user to mine KMD in non-FFA period. That's why people join the pool only during free-for-all, because it's just more profitable.

Sounds scammy. I put my 25,000 sol/s back on ZEC/ZCL
326  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][POOL] www.komodopool.com - New KMD POOL (EquiHash) on: March 15, 2017, 04:40:27 PM
Are you functional right now???

I'd say that they are not.

Yesterday I mined for about 10 hours with 15,000 Sol/s and have never received a payout even today. I notice most people mine there for a few hours then leave when they dont get paid. Someone is making KMD but its not us.

In the event the pool operator reads this, my KMD address is: RT7PsRv8dqV9DizbbPb2fkmmDYxveoEWZn

I'd appreciate my KMD.

As far as I know, the first crypto currency was invented by Satoshi Nakamoto,
but maybe I´m wrong.

First proof-of-work cryptocurrency?  Hashcash.... 1997 yo.

Hello people, how are you all?

Is there any change to get a pascal account? This is my public key, in case someone want to donate one:

Thanks a lot, and have a great day guys.

You wouldn't happen to have another would you? I'd like to hold this coin long term rather than leave it sit on Poloniex.

If someone would be so kind as to gift me an account I'd be very much appreciative.

basyaru please run latest daemon ASAP.  If not, we will ask miners to abandon your pool.

Nanopool should be considered hostile at this point. (1. stealing hashrates, 2. DDoSing Suprnova and then 3. the time-attacks) I think it makes sense for every miner to abandon them.
4) "stealing hashrates" is an absurd thing, as you can not have the same effective hashrate on the pool side, as your miner shows. You lose some time to achieve work and to send it, have some % of invalid shares, miners pause mining on job changing (good ones do it quick, but still has a break).
The better miner works, the better connection is the closer your pool stats to the miner reports.

Except that the actual hashrate on the two pools differed using the same mining software and same hardware.

That's a problem thats been reported by more than one person in this thread.

Everyone's hashrate was higher on Suprnova. No one reported a higher hashrate on Nanopool.

Nowaday PascalCoin is only a trade coin, that's good for miners and for investors, but that was not my dream.
My dream is to convert PascalCoin in something more useful than a graphical exchange, be more real...
The account system and the safebox is not only a "new geek engine" for crypto, I think that account system can help cryptocoins to be more usable for layman, for people who are not crypto users

If you have new ideas to PascalCoin, feel free to post them.

DEV IS WORKING  Cool

Pitch it to Alphabay and other such markets.

They and their users will love the deletable blockchain feature.

then pascalcoin being algorithm sha 256, you can pull antminer s5 s9 s7?

no it's a modified sha256, not the sha of bitcoin

btw are the estimate correct on suprnova?

No, they are not correct yet - I'm working on them within the next 24h.

If someone has a good formula, let me know !

BTW I'm seeing a DDoS to Suprnova's PASC frontend currently, page could be a bit slower as usual.

Nanopool DDOSing you is low.
334  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Community Call for Claymore Zcash GPU Miner Development on: October 29, 2016, 11:19:57 PM
Well if you ask me, I'd say it's badly needed, and ready to take it if Claymore even takes off 20% fees. The mining setup of zCash has definitely become a pain... Angry

There is only ONE fully working Linux miner which can use multiple AMD cards at a time (mining rigs) and that miner is hardcoded/locked to one pool (coinsforall.io). There is another miner (Zogminer) currently in development.

On the Windows side there is way more choice.

Thanks eXtremal,
I woke up this morning to find my ZEC in my wallet.

I missed out on the missive $$$, but I sill made far more than I could have on ETH, so i'm happy.

Why are all these guys newbie with like 4 posts

ZCash has brought a lot of new people into crypto.

That and many of us are ETH miners who never really posted at BCT but post over at the Ethereum.org forum and on Reddit as well as at http://forum.z.cash

I can confirm I just got paid. My first ZEC. Looking forward to many more! I'm in this for the long haul.

Begin to move 16 ZEC back to pool for payouts..
doesn't mean begin to make payments I mean..
It's mean begin payments

... And after more than 5 hours my payout are still in requested mode?!? Even second payout reached that mode.
So from my point of view this is nice miner wit shitiest pool that I mined ever.

I've been waiting like 10, soon to be 11 hrs to be paid.

Great! I guess I will have to stay up until I actually see the first payout...

If it is any consolation I will be too. I just looked at the clock and its going on 10 hours. Good thing its the weekend and I have tons of caffine  Grin

I had that problem on TestNet, you have to delete the chain in the .zcash folder then re-index
Reindex not working on RC4 and mainnet! (stuck on 145 block) On start I tried launch zcashd 20+ times before get success. Now I hold two separate instances of zcash blockchain for "hotplugging" on zcashd crash, but it can't save from wallet corrupting. I already have one 4Mb corrupted wallet.dat... -salvagewallet don't work, I emailed zcash dev team, may be they can help me repair this wallet.dat, but don't receive answer until this moment. I think it's not good start for zcash.

I've been patiently waiting for about 8 hours for a requested payment.

http://coinsforall.io/#!/coin/ZCASH/wallet/t1RuLMkzGVFzx2S2GkUcafen44WwAL5XVw9

Is there any chance this could be the reason why? I have been mining since launch and have only one requested payout despite mining for large swaths of time (hours) without my balance increasing. I've had to look over my miners to make sure they stayed mining through all of the reboots on your end.

I know you're busy but if there is anyway you could pay out since I've been waiting since yesterday afternoon, that would be great.
340  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [2016-09-21] The Next Steps: Ethereum Classic Charts a Course for the Future on: September 21, 2016, 10:59:52 PM

It has been two months since Ethereum Classic (ETC) struck out on its own. But what started out as a protest on some Russian language forums against the Ethereum hard fork appears to be gaining traction. ETC now has a growing community of developers and followers who steadfastly believe in the immutability of blockchains.

The problem is ETC still has strong links back to Ethereum, and people tend to get confused over which one is the “real” Ethereum. So the next step is for ETC is to pull away from its roots and evolve into a separate blockchain of its own right. And for that, it needs a roadmap...

So how did that UnDevCon go?

Does that stand for UnderDevelopedConstruction?
