3201  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Pad replacement... Do I replace all pads?? or just Mem and Ram on: February 25, 2022, 02:15:53 PM
Hello all,

These 15w pads are expensive and kinda hard to cut and make use of this super small sheet (90mm x 60mm) in a way which i have zero waste from this expensive pad. Assuming I have to replace all pads on the entire card, i went ahead and purchased a few of these in a few different sizes. All cost me around $50 and a WHOLE lot of time to replace the pads.

So, all pads seemed to be oily but there were certain pads that I think didnt really need replacing, like on the SMD resistors/inverters, let alone with a 15w pad. Is it common practice to replace ALL pads with the same pads? or would I be better off replacing just the mem and ram with these 15w pads?
Use 15w pads for memory only, and for SMD resistors/inverters, use inexpensive 3-7 watt pads.
Look at the quality of SMD resistors thermal pads. If they are in good condition and do not leak liquid, do not replace them.
3202  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Coin recommendation for 800Mh on: February 24, 2022, 12:25:46 PM
now i'm making $28-30 a day with 800MH in eth, is there any coin alternative that would be more profitable?
It depends on your video cards. If you have Nvidia 1060-1080 or AMD 470-580 video cards, then it’s easier for you to continue mining Ethereum. If you have modern video cards, then study the information about dual mining Ethereum+Ton and Ethereum+Alephium.

LHR cards are good for dual mining Ethereum+Alephium it's like using a complete non LHR card for mining so go for it if that's what you have, as for most cards ETH mining is the most profitable.
I tried eth + toncoin and it gives 12 ghs per ton coins, which saves only $2.8. Is it worth pushing my graphics cards?
If you do not have problems with overheating and cooling, then $ 2.8 a day is a good additional profit.Try Ethereum+Alephium, this algorithm requires less load from video cards.
3203  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ETH 2.0 is never coming? on: February 24, 2022, 12:20:55 PM
Even if it has changed its name eth 2.0 is coming they say by July of this year but i believe not later than the end of the year the pos will arrive and it will be definitive we must move towards other altcoins the alternatives are there but not as profitable as eth
Is that dates confirmed or it was just a rumour? How many times we have been fooled that they say eth 2.0 is going to be released on this said date but still no eth 2.0 that came. I do not really know if the new mechanism of eth is going to be better or worst and if people will liked it but most of my concern are in the fee.

I hope the fee will return to normal again just like the old days because I have lots of erc20 waiting to be sold. You said alternative are on other altcoins? But, what do you think about eth? Actually eth is also an alternative coin. There are also people that continuously earning a profit in eth so no they wont be leaving this coin. Sorry.
https://t.me/KartavKanaLL/9305
In the last interview on February 18, Vitalik Buterin said that he did not know when the POS algorithm would be available. So far, the most profitable is to use dual mining of Ethereum+Ton and Ethereum+Alephium.
3204  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Good price for 2060 super on: February 24, 2022, 12:14:44 PM
^^^ 2060 12gb can do around 37+ mhs, regular 2060 (6gb) around 32+ mhs, I have both (Palit Duals), on locked core clocks 12gb version draws around 98w, 6gb version draws around 88w

if 2060Supers were available here for $440 I'ld buy them

And how is it possible for the 12GB version to achive 37mh? This must be result in very very high mem oc.

Normal 2060 Super has 448.0 GB/s on stock - around 38mh
2060 12GB has 336.0 GB/s on stock - 32mh - to achieve 38mh you need 33% higher mem clock and this is not possible. I only saw around 35mh for this cards.

I just got MSI Ventus today 2060 12 GB and at stock settings it was 31.6 Mhsh and with +1500 Memory clock which is the maximum this card supports it is at 37.1-37.4 Mhsh as a maximum hash rate so that is quite possible with this card without problems. For 38 Mhsh you need a premium brand like Aorus from Gigabyte and also to have Samsung memory otherwise I don't think it is possible.I bought it brand new at 520 Eur,sure the prices of cards are going down and this is good for miners.
I don't know what you were thinking when you paid $580 for 37 Mhsh. The profit of the video card is about a dollar per day and will constantly decrease. I'd rather buy a used AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT now if I could find a good price.

3206  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Driver issues with MSI RX 470 on: February 24, 2022, 12:01:25 PM
Thanks for the tips and feedback. to clarify, I am NOT mining on this GPU, just using it for graphics on my personal PC. All of my mining rigs have been on SMOS for many months for just this reason of continual problems with Windows/Radeon drivers.

I think the best option at this point would be to flash the 470 back to original timings, but I have long lost my records of those timings that i took a snapshot of before flashing.

What would be the recommended method to flash back to factory timings?  It's been about 5 years since I strapped these 470's and I'm sure things have changed a lot since then.

Thanks again!
The problem is not in the timings, but in the fact that you changed the settings of the original BIOS.
If you have MSI RX-470-ARMOR-4G-OC
https://www.msi.com/Graphics-Card/Radeon-RX-470-ARMOR-4G-OC
then I can give you my original bios. The video card has Samsung memory. But it is better to always keep the original bios.
3207  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: I still use molex on: February 24, 2022, 11:52:29 AM
Anyone still use molex to connect GPU for mining? I've use this for months with no issue my cards are still running and the cables don't get hot either so why is many saying molex is bad generally for crypto mining.
https://www.gpuminingresources.com/p/psu-cables.html
I use molex for graphics cards like the GTX 1070 and similar. For the GTX 1080 I'm already using a 6 pin raiser. When using a molex riser on hot RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 graphics cards, you run the risk of damaging very expensive graphics cards.
3208  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Pls help me decide on: February 24, 2022, 11:47:11 AM
580s consume more electricity than 1660 super and their hashpower is the same, I will surely go for the 1660 super because they generate less heat and more efficient than AMD rx580.
Now these video cards are very expensive and they are already outdated, and after the end of ethereum mining, they will lose in mining to modern video cards. Now is a bad time to buy, and after the price cuts, I would choose modern video cards.

I'm seeing rx580 graphic cards on Alibaba website right now for the price of 300$ do you think this is high? very soon price will collapse because mining isn't profitable like before, in few more months mining difficulty will tumble as many mining machine will go offline.
If the delivery time is about a month, then it can be expensive for video cards whose condition you cannot check. You may be sent problematic video cards that require repair. It is better to buy such video cards only after checking in China.

400 $ is a good price for a 2060 i have seen it on amazon at 480 € for a card that also reaches more than 30 mhs has a good price / performance ratio
RTX 2060 and RTX 2060 super are different graphics cards and I wouldn't buy RTX 2060 now for 480€ or 545$.
But the author found a very good offer of $440 for the RTX 2060 super. I would even buy them for $500, and sell my old GTX 1070/1080 for about the same price.

I'm less worried about crypto mining profit presently but I want to know which coins I can mine and hold for 2024-2025, electricity ? Not a problem also I have all the patience to keep mining even if my 12$ per day turned 2$ per day.
$12 per day is 2-6 video cards, I think.
There is no information yet when Ethereum mining will end, so keep mining the most profitable coins. But keep in mind that if 90% of video cards are used in Ethereum mining, then the profit may decrease by more than 6 times. In your case, I would also look for a profitable coin in the future, because you only pay for electricity.
3213  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How good is crypto mining for a newbie on: February 23, 2022, 01:09:48 PM
I don't want to start my crypto mining journey with what if as I'm ready for anything that's been thrown at me, I have access to the sunlight can I use this to farm and mine coins just for a beginner nothing too big, I read it's possible because I'm from Africa and grid power isn't always available every day.
There are a lot of important points here:
If there is no electricity at night or there is not enough power for mining, then there is no need to invest in mining.
If you have batteries, what is the maximum power you can use for mining?
3214  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Driver issues with MSI RX 470 on: February 23, 2022, 01:02:31 PM
Had a dreaded W10 update hit my personal PC overnight and now I can't get a driver to work on my MSI 470.

Thanks in advance for any tips!
For my Rx 470 I used Atikmdag patcher 1.4.7. Maybe new versions have support for more graphics cards, but this was the last version that worked stably before I started using Hive OS.

If this does not help, then you can flash the original BIOS and mine with a lower hashrate, but you will not have problems after the updates.

If you have a mining farm, then use Hive OS.

As per betterhash platform a gtx 730 can mine few algorithm but the main issue is mining software capabilities maybe you can use betterhash software to try it out? Here is gt 730 calculator

https://www.betterhash.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-730-mining-profitability-238.html
ETH ≈19.05 MH/s  Shocked Shocked
This calculator shows incorrect data, and other coins have been using ASICs for a long time. If you are interested in earning 3-6 dollars a month, then you should study the information. But it is better to look for other ways to earn money.

Thanks all for the advice and trouble shooting tips but it seems that I have a dead board.
First, I would Reset the BIOS using jumpers on the motherboard. Then I would ask a colleague to flash the BIOS with the latest firmware version using a programmer. The BIOS chip is removed. If I didn't find any damage on the motherboard and my actions didn't work, I would buy a new motherboard.
3218  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: LHR to Full hashrate incoming soon allegedly 02/26/2022 on: February 23, 2022, 12:22:31 PM
If it worked, then either the software was sold for money and this method was tested by blogger miners. Otherwise, they are viruses. I would immediately stop watching such videos if I saw a series of RTX Axхx video cards in the description.
3219  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Trying to take loan for mining build on: February 20, 2022, 12:56:20 PM
Smart miners use borrowed funds when they already have a certain amount of income from mining, and they can repay debts from mining profits. In this situation, profit may not be enough.
3220  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining fail-safes? rather be proactive than reactive on: February 20, 2022, 12:52:43 PM
Riserless motherboards are good because they remove the worry of having the sata cable melt down, this is the most common item that usually melts for most miners. So it’s not a bad idea.

You still got the risk of the GPU themselves having some fault such as a shorted capacitor which goes up in smokes, however this is more rare and usually the PSU detects the short and shuts down.
Riserless motherboards add other problems, such as a mining farm requiring additional cooling or a closed case, and these are additional costs. I think it's cheaper to buy quality raisers and a quality power supply.

I was against them in the first place, but just 8 additional fans it is not that big of a power cost to cool it down.I bought it last Sunday and put it to work on Monday, the riserless motherboard, not a single problem so far.I completely have eliminated that saying "I got 99 problems and one bad riser is all of them" and I have also a few free slots in my old motherboard for which I have ordered a Rtx 2060 12 GB to try.

I agree it is more difficult to set up properly such motherboard at the beginning but once you do it is a set and forget thing then.I know for sure if I will build another rig this is the kind of motherboard I will use.
If you use Rtx 2060 for mining, then additional fans will be enough. If you use Rtx 3080, Rtx 3090, then in the summer you will have to think about good ventilation or additional cooling with an air conditioner. And I always thought that a mining motherboard is easier to set up than a regular ATX motherboard for a PC.
