3201  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Exchanges' Trading Fees on: February 08, 2021, 08:28:16 AM
Bitstamp has high fees compared to other exchanges that are available. This does not necessarily mean that you must move to a new exchange because the very thought of that makes some users skin crawl. Still if you have options at hand and since this sector is a unregulated mess, you can and should look for alternatives.

Bitstamp also has threads getting posted in this forum about taking long time to verify users and doing background investigations on them. So you might want to move away from them with time. You never know when you get locked out of your funds.

Binance has been suggested here, but there are several other exchanges too. Check with your local user base and what they use commonly and go with the majority. It makes sense to have accounts in more than one exchange, a lot of reasons exist including possible failsafe in case one of them get hacked/downtime and you need to trade something from wallet.
The fees are quite high indeed, it's definitely a hassle to move to another exchange, plus, I don't know how to move my whole funds somewhere else and to avoid excessive withdrawing/depositting fees. I mean, there are other concerns that come to my mind now, what if my account gets blocked on the other exchange after a sudden large deposit, what if I have trouble verifying and so on.

I've also read that thread, I had no trouble verifying on Bitstamp a few years ago, their support was solid and prompt when I had lost access to my 2FA. However, looking back at the transaction history and summing up the fees I've paid, well, I got to tell you, it's a decent amount.

I've used Kraken and Poloniex in the past, many years ago, in fact, I couldn't even remember that I had an account on Poloniex.

I'd like to ask, is this campaign still accepting new members? 3 of us have applied, the spreadsheet has been updated but none of us have received any update on our applications. The most recent post made by the managers was mentioning that the lowest class is open for new applicants.

Isn't there a tool out there to bruteforce a sentence with one bad word?
I think so but if not I can make one quickly
Yep... btcrecover can usually work it out fairly quickly... however you need the "incorrect" seed, and a known address generated by that wallet. Sounds like the OP may not have the address. Undecided

This is the most "up to date" version of btcrecover (that has added extra features over the original by gurnec): https://github.com/3rdIteration/btcrecover

Unfortunately, that is correct, I do not even have the address. If I did, I could see if it was worthy of recovering, I cannot even guarantee that it's not another empty wallet.

So far, I've recovered three wallets, one of them was intact, another one was simply empty and the last one had $100 in it. This is a file I found randomly on my drive, the 12 word phrase could also point to one of these 3 wallets.
3205  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC back to All time high ..did you buy ? on: February 07, 2021, 01:10:47 PM
Me stupido sold at approximately $37.400 in order to buy again at a lower price. Well, let's just say that didn't really go according to plan. I'm planning to buy back the exact amount I sold, if the price ever falls back to that level.

Hi
I don't know if you can move your thread yourself but the forum for technical help is there: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=4.0
12 words phrase is likely a BIP39 or Electrum mnemonic, try using tools on internet but use them OFFLINE! I just found this for example https://iancoleman.io/bip39/
The 80MB wallet may be a Truecrypt/Veracrypt container?
Your 'xc2.....2om' word may be a password? Of the container? Or a BIP38 password for your keys?

Thank you for your reply, I've no idea what Truecrypt/Veracrypt container is lol, so I doubt that it's that. Furthermore, I don't really understand what this tool you've attached does. I'd really appreciate if you could elaborate.
In this tool you put your 12 words in "BIP39 Mnemonic"
This will give you a private key in "BIP32 Root Key"
You may need to put your "xc2" password in "BIP39 Passphrase (optional)" too

Then you can import the two "BIP32 Root Key" (the one with xc2 in BIP39 Passphrase and the one without) in Ethereum (I'm not sure bitcoin-core has implemented BIP32 yet) and use your funds if it works
Thanks, I've tried that but it says invalid mnemonic. Tried using the password too but made no difference.

Are you sure that the wallet file doesn't have the extension? Or it might be just hidden? check carefully because there are some users here who mention about 80MB of the wallet.dat file of their Bitcoin core wallet.

Here's the post below for reference
- https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=34028.msg2570257#msg2570257

About the 12 phrase seed can you try to check the words from your backup seed with this list of words from here https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0039/english.txt
Check if all of the words from your backup seed are under that list. If some of the words are not there it means it's a different wallet.

It might be a litecoin or other coin. Can you try to check if when it was created? Try to right-click the file that has 12 phrase backup and click properties it should be show details with the date when it was created.
Thank you, I've checked the attached list and all words do match up. I've tried importing it using a desktop wallet by inserting the 12 word phrase with no success. The text was created on December of 2018. I've no idea on how to test that "wallet" file.
3208  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Lost wallet? Help me find out on: February 06, 2021, 09:22:09 PM
Updated, View second page please

Hello there,
After all this bullrun, I've been searching for old wallets I had, back when I was young and innocent.
I've found a 12 phrase on a text document and another long "word" with random letters. Starts with xc2.....2om, it's 32 characters long. Have no idea what it could actually be.

Furthermore, I found a file, approximately 80mb with the name "wallet". Just that, no extension, nothing.

I've already tried importing the 12 phrase on a Bitcoin wallet but says invalid. I'm suspecting that they could be something else too.

Anyone of any assistance please? What is this "wallet" file, that 32 character object? Any chances that the 12 word phrase belongs to another coin?

Thank you in advance

3209  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin hits $40k on: February 06, 2021, 08:31:04 PM
With the way BTC price is rising, 100k might be the minimum this year. Institution money is really coming in big time.

No, 100k is daydreaming. It won't pretty much happen. I would expect more of 50-60k but never 100k. I don't want to get my hopes up to 100k but if that happens and I sold at 60, then I would have no regrets as this was part of my plan after all. No time for self-doubt.

BTW, it reach 38k again this week for 1-2 hrs and goes back to 33k. So I think, this would be the scenario for this weeks to come.
I wouldn't say never, I get it, it's a very optimistic and an unlikely goal, $50.000 is way more realistic. Thinking back on how the price climbed so quickly, it won't take long to happen.

However, $100.000 might sound crazy, but there's a chance it might happen in the distant future. Certainly not within 2021, not even 2022 and so on.
3210  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Exchanges' Transaction Fees on: February 06, 2021, 06:40:45 PM
This is a fee comparison list of several popular exchanges. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5079048.0. The last update of the thread is May 2020. Maybe some of them have changed, it is better for you to check the latest fees through their respective sites.

Some small exchanges also offer cheaper transaction fees than others. But still, you have to consider the reputation, because the security of funds and data is everything.
I don't disagree, security is the first priority, will go through the other thread too.
which is definitely a waste of money.

So you are expecting a centralized exchange to offer service for free? If an exchange offers for free then its just a scam for sure.

There are ways to reduce the transaction fees like when using the native tokens of the exchange and perfect example is holding BNB on Binance exchange can help you to get some disccounts.
Of course not, it's just that I'm using Bitstamp currently, which has 0.5% fee, at the same time, Binance offers 0.10%, which is a huge difference when trading on a daily basis. I wouldn't consider Binance a sketchy/non-legit exchange.
Topic title and post description are quite confusing. Title saying transaction fees, means deposit and withdrawal fees. It doesn't make sense to require a fee of 0.5% for withdrawal or deposit. So I am assuming you are talking about trading fees, but still 0.5% is quite high to me where other reputed exchanges require smaller fees. I think Binance fees are quite reasonable which is 1%, and there will be 25% more less using a native coin. So, you might move to some other reputed exchange where fees are low.
You're right, the title is misleading, I was referring to trading fees. Corrected it, thanks!
3211  Economy / Service Discussion / Exchanges' Τrading Fees on: February 06, 2021, 12:16:37 PM
What exchanges are you using? I'm currently using Bitstamp, I have no issues so far, it inspires security to me. However, it only offers a small variety of coins (BTC, ETH, XRP, LTC, LINK, XLM) and a few others, at the same time though, its fees are quite high, at 0.5%.

Looking back and my transaction history, I've spent a respectable amount in fees, which is definitely a waste of money.

I've also used Kraken, but didn't really like its design and layout, I don't remember why I moved my funds to Bitstamp though, long time has passed since then, and I've got no clue.

3212  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I was left behind with btc market. on: February 06, 2021, 11:10:00 AM
I am posting this because I was surprised how bitcoin market price move. I can't hardly believe that after some time of inactivity in the forum and cryptocurrency there has been a huge changes happen. A drastic bullish trend of bitcoin and other altcoins tha are bullish too like ethereum. I was gonne thought that cryptocurrency could pop like a bubble and everything will go back to the bottom.

Another thing that I also check @coinmarketcap.com is a coin at the top of the listed crypto of coinmarketcap.com btc in the coinmarketcap.com. It has a rank 0 in it highest of all in the market. What could really be happening of thia crypto and why it was being posted in top. There is a  high chance that it can grow for more knowing it is listed at the top.

Hmmpp..I am interested to know what could happen to bitcoin. There are really great surprises ahead and that could be mean that btc could go in just a short period of time having 100K $ per btc. It would be possible and we all know of that.

I was really left behind after all this pandemic has cause so much in all of us in financial aspects. If I could have some spare money I gonna love to invest in a coin eyeing on the crypto listed on top of btc in coinmarketcap.com. What exchange could it be bought? I need to get an idea about this crypto. I am also planning to buy bitcoin. Good Luck to me!
That coin is a troll, like another poster has already commented, it doesn't actually exist. It was made as a joke, referring to the Gamestop stock incident. Bitcoin is and will remain the top coin, currently sitting at almost 62% dominance.

On the other side, I was inactive too, for about 2 years. Missed a lot of opportunities and I regret that.
3213  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Newbie gambling sites on: February 05, 2021, 11:50:52 PM
I would like to deposit a small amount of Bitcoin for gambling purposes. I would like a few suggestions of websites that have you've used yourself and are trusted/safe to use for newbie gamblers?
Not interested in sport betting or anything similar, just something to try my luck and kill some time once in a while.
Even if you don't  want to, I'll  still recommend  making a gamble on sports with Exbet,  its pretty easy. And if younjust want to kill some time then you can either play Dice or slots, suggested sites are listed below:
-FortuneJack
-MintDice
-Rocket.run
-freebitco.in

These were the sites I usually play with my spare time and money, so I do hope you'll  find yours.
No worries mate, thanks! Have already check FortuneJack and looks promising, haven't deposited anything yet though. Can't recall if MintDice has already been mentioned but looks good and offers a variety of games.

Furthermore, I'm already gambling my Satoshi on Freebitco.in, not really fond of it though, doesn't give you that gambling feeling.
3214  Economy / Speculation / Re: How long the Bitcoin Bull run continues on: February 05, 2021, 05:40:54 PM
I think the market will have repetitive crashes, of smaller impact, than have a large dump similar to 2017. It hasn't shown any evidence that prompt any similar move. The lowest it went was $29.500~ if I remember correctly. The demand is really high at the moment, while the supply is slowly diminishing.
I would say that long term people like me do care about the movements as well. Not in a "trade it right now!" kind of way but we do get hyped or upset about ups and downs a swell and it is not really just purely about people who happen to trade daily or do shorts or longs. The difference is, traders actually do buy and sell, whereas long term people do not trade daily, we do get emotional daily and we check it once every hour as well and get excited about it or have anxiety over it but we just do not trade it. I would definitely feel a lot more comfortable with holding right now and would be scared to sell.
I've always held an amount of Bitcoin, I never had much though. Likewise, I'm not sure if I can call myself a trader, I buy/sell only a few times a week, retaining the amount of Bitcoin I have. I also check the price daily to see if I can make a few successful trades. Yesterday, I sold half of my Bitcoin in order to buy it back after the price falls.

Deep down I also believe that there will be another ATH in the distant future, however, I catch myself getting anxious too.
3215  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Newbie gambling sites on: February 05, 2021, 01:43:43 PM
I've read every single one of your replies, I don't have a lot now since most of my balances are deposited on an exchange. Thus, I decided to start trying a few, starting from Bustabit. Placed about 0.5mBTC for now, messed around for a while and yup I won quite a few times actually and almost doubled my balance. Decided to stop after that and take a break. I was lucky, I won't always win. I'll use it again in a few days.

The concept of the multiplier is quite entertaining (And addicting to be honest).

Those are some great replies!
Of course, we've all made mistakes and I definitely don't feel alone anymore, however, we couldn't have known that it would advance like that, so we can actually excuse ourselves for not knowing any better. Looking back to my trade history, I've done some really stupid mistakes, can't stand to look at them.

I can't keep regretting my choices of course, there's no point in that, just wasting time. However, sometimes I do look back and think that if I had done the X Y moves, now I would have a lot more cash or Bitcoin.

I assume you still have a decent amount of Bitcoin kept safe somewhere. No regrets, then. But if you want to make up for your period of inactivity, then you may begin to stack more Sats right now.
Unfortunately, I do not hold a decent amount currently, that's what I do regret, I could have kept more aside.

After the 2018 dump, I stopped reading about Bitcoin and moved my focus to my 9-5 job. And now with the whole DOGE hype, I felt obligated to dust off my old wallets. And I find the crypto super fun again!
Do not get me started about Doge, I sold 30.000 coins back in the early days.  Roll Eyes

Forget about the past and those mistakes won't happen again. We've learned from those and we're applying the right strategy based on how we should tackle the current situation of the market.
Unfortunately, I don't think that mistakes ever stop, I think that we're just balancing the right and the wrong moves we make. I still catch myself, chickening out and making wrong moves.
This is how it works haha. You will always be back, no matter how many times to "leave". There is nothing to regret on how you spent your coins back then. Faucets were paying good amount of coins during those times because the price of bitcoin was very low. At least you spent all those coins you earned on something you actually wanted.
Got back a little before the 2017 price pump, started posting here and being active, learned about Altcoin mining, it was popular back then, set up my computer and even bought a second GPU. Was making daily profit, in Bitcoin and was delighted, within a couple of days, I had a full return on the GPU, and managed to acquire a decent amount of BTC. However, I sold some of it later, some before and some when the price skyrocketed, and deposited some to Bitstamp for trading. That's what I deem as my third mistake, should have kept them intact..
How is this a mistake? You already made your profit. You can't keep on holding forever. You will have to convert it to fiat eventually once your profit goal has been reached.
Well, I did make some profit, but I actually didn't need the money back then, I guess I could have kept my Bitcoin aside. But I guess you are right, it could have been worse, I could have bought at $16.000 and sold at $5.000, or I could have sold after the crash.

3219  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / I always return to Bitcoin on: February 01, 2021, 11:43:15 PM
I learned about Bitcoin at a quite young age, not really understanding why it was for, but liked its concept. I was 13 or 14 years old at max back then, didn't understand much, and didn't actually bother to research any further. I am not sure how much it was worth then, if I am not mistaken, it was valued at $200-300.

The faucet concept was really appealing to me, "Why are people giving out this coin for free?, I thought". Faucets would distribute hundreds, if not thousands of Satoshi for each claim/roll. I managed to earn a decent amount that way, but as I already mentioned, I didn't know much, thus, I didn't see it as an investment or anything close to that.

And how did I spend my Bitcoin? Buying Minecraft accounts, because they were cheaper than buying from the official store. Stupid me, wish I knew better back then. Those accounts turned to be the most expensive ones they could ever be, I really regret spending $5-10 each now. I feel like I spent more than $500 now. At that point, if I remember correctly, started browsing Bitcointalk and created an account, if I spent more time here, lol.

That was my first mistake. The second one was giving up/forgetting about it after a while. I mean, I didn't do much, but if I had continued playing with faucets, now I would definitely have a good sum of money, provided that I kept them in a wallet till now.

That's what I deem as my third mistake, should have kept them intact.

Unfortunately, when the price crashed, I lost faith and abandoned it and the forum shortly after. I return just a few months before, regretting being absent for so long, instead of taking advantage of such an opportunity, I got disappointed. I didn't sell though, I had set my coins aside, because deep down, I felt it would recover some day. My mistake was not buying any, since I have easily afforded to do.

Summarizing, I've always returned to Bitcoin, deep down I always knew it would become that successful, I'm trying to learn from my mistakes. Now, I'm trading several times throughout the week, managing a decent profit with each trade. There's no point in regretting what I COULD have done, but only to look forward, and what I can achieve now.
