3204  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This is the kind of hierarchy some want for the The Bitcoin Network. on: October 03, 2012, 01:53:00 AM
we just need to get gavin off the board. the others can stand as is but we cannot have the lead developer's hands wrapped up in politics.
3205  Economy / Securities / Re: [Investment fund] Gamma Bitcoin Fund [Closing] on: October 02, 2012, 09:14:47 PM
hundreds of bitcoins "lost" later.....

I hope you all know that basically DeadTerra used you guys to fund his gambles with you guys taking all the risk and paying for it during the down weeks while he skimmed off the positive weeks. Cheers DeadTerra, congratulations.
3206  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: What if bitcoin addresses can be hacked on: September 30, 2012, 07:41:01 PM
...

EDIT:  This modularity was an orginal design consideration.  Present bitcoin address all begin with a [ 1 ] for this reason, (testnet coin addresses all begin with a letter, IIRC) and thus future address algos can identify the algo used to produce them by the leading character.  Yes, this too was on purpose.  Satoshi was a far thinking genius.

This is fascinating, I was looking through the Bitcoin Paper and was wondering where someone could find more information like you had.

3208  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Can someone briefly explain the different ways how private keys are stolen? on: September 20, 2012, 03:34:16 AM
Like, for instance, if I see my private key displayed on my screen, that means it's been loaded in my memory and if someone were to have access to my system, they could search it?

What goes on when a hacker has access to a computer? What are the various processes that occur?

Are blockchain wallets safe? safer with yubikey? how exactly do blockchain wallets work, and how would someone compromising my system get access to my coins?

The best storage is cold on an encrypted drive, correct?

Are mac any more or less vulnerable than other systems? or has it just simply been a causation of low market share?
3209  Economy / Goods / Re: [SELLING] Whey Protein 52% DISCOUNT!!! on: September 17, 2012, 03:40:15 PM

3210  Economy / Speculation / Re: X-post: OGRR.COM just increased FIVEFOLD his userbase on: September 17, 2012, 02:52:49 AM
good, another service that uses Bitcoins for their intended utility.
3211  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Yubikey - one key for many accounts? on: September 14, 2012, 07:35:38 PM
bump, i'd like to know this as well. Yubico says so though "The two-factor SSH authentication supported by Yubico PAM can accommodate a wide range of solutions. A single account can have multiple YubiKeys assigned to it, allowing multiple users access to the same account, or a single YubiKey can be assigned to multiple accounts."
3212  Economy / Speculation / Re: What is Bitcoin's tipping point? on: September 12, 2012, 01:42:47 AM
The BitInstant debt card is going to be another big milestone for the economy because it makes bitcoins much more liquid and greatly lowers the friction between getting in and getting out.

but what are the fees? it'll be expensive to use.

If this price drop was another short pirate orchestration....then that´s absolutely genius
3217  Economy / Economics / Re: Would Paul Ryan as Vice President let banks collapse? on: August 12, 2012, 08:22:12 AM
No, it'd look too bad. My guess is that if Romney were to win, then he'd actually set up some sort of stimulus plan because he does not want to be caught holding the bag when the economy contracts again with the whole tax rate thing kicking in sometime soon
3218  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gavin will visit the CIA on: August 10, 2012, 01:24:59 AM
I'm way to lazy to read/search this thread. Can someone please tell me what the result of this presentation was?

Can anyone give a real answer please?

I just uploaded pdf and KeyNote versions of the talk I gave at the CIA last Tuesday:
 https://s3.amazonaws.com/gavinandresen-bitcoin/GavinAndresenCIATalk.pdf
 https://s3.amazonaws.com/gavinandresen-bitcoin/GavinAndresen_Bitcoin.key

I took questions in the middle, before I dove into the technical details. I was asked about whether or not I thought price instability would be a problem ("yes, I'll talk about that later") and how/why I got involved.

Later, at the panel discussion, I was asked a question that showed I need to do a better job of distinguishing bitcoin addresses and IP addresses. And I was asked if there were moral issues, since bitcoin can be used by criminals ("I'm working on bitcoin because I think the potential benefits to the world are much, much greater than the costs.")

The other speakers were from PayPal, Facebook Payments, M-Pesa, Heartland Payment Systems, and the Federal Reserve, so it was worth going just for the connections. Bitcoin is definitely the new kid on the block, and I presented it as such; not "bitcoin will take over the world" but "bitcoin is a very interesting experiment that could be world-changing if it works out."

And now... there is plenty of work to be done, so I'm going to stop reminiscing about the good old days last week....

C'mon, you guys know this took place in June. Not too hard to skip through a few pages Smiley

Something that is direly needed and should be expanded upon. Maybe integrate with the other guy who's trying to create a one stop shop for lending.
